Voice Casting For the Character "Russell" in Disney Pixar's "Up"

Jordan Nagai voiced the character "Russell" in Disney Pixar's animated feature film "Up."

Producers found that Jordan's reads were very much like how a real kid would talk. He wasn't as experienced as an actor as most children doing voice over work, however, that worked to the character's advantage in terms of authenticity. The producers also wanted to make sure that they did not cast an "actor" kid and succeeded in finding Nagai for the role.

One producer related, "When you cast the voice, the voice ends up influencing a character and once you sort of embrace the actor that you've cast and fold that into the character that you are portraying on the screen, I think it becomes a stronger, more unique character and that's what happened with Russell."

Writing happens in Colorado Springs, Colorado and recording takes place at a professional recording studio in Los Angeles.

Rango Voice Actors Talk "Emotion" Capture

Rango, a CG film released on March 4, 2011, features a domesticated chameleon named Rango who gets separated from their owners and finds himself in the wild west taking on a new life.

Voice talent for this film include Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Alfred Molina and Bill Nighy to name just a few.

Fisher related that Gore Verbinski directed this film with all talent on a stage instead of just standing behind a microphone in a more traditional setting. Instead of motion capture, Depp says it's more of an "emotion" capture, using the actors as a reference for the emotions of the animated character.
