Tuesday I posted about the dog sign around the area and Thursday this is what I saw, it was the same sign I took a photo of. The kids were like, "Oh mama what happened?" And I just don't know what to say, even though its just a sign it isn't a good example to kids for other people to just break them like that. (Just being unhappy and griping on my part).

While below is a container of plastics. With play of words, the sign says "Nimm ein sackerl für mein gackerl." (Take a sack for my poops.)

Janet, I remember you commented during theme day that Vienna should have dog signs that says 'no' for their gackerl... Vienna has those for a while but were eye level (as high as the traffic lights), those that are on the grasses were mainly in residential areas. But today, when I came out, I saw these small markers practically everywhere (where the grasses are). There you are, no more poops for the doggies in the streets and grasses!

Owners who let the dogs make poops will pay 36 euros! The solution is to always carry a plastic bag with them. (Ein sackerl für gackerl= A sack for the poop). The horses in the city do not have that much problem. Notice they already have a big sack behind them, this catches everything that comes out from their behind, though it isn't really good to smell those.

And I was so proud to say that its summer lol, it rained today while the kids and I were out at the city center. It isn't favorable because I didn't bring any raincoats nor umbrellas thinking that its still going to be a sunny day.

I guess the older people are right to say verrücktes Wetter '(crazy weather)!'

At the side of the museum is a restaurant where seats are arranged outside the mezzanine patio for diners to enjoy the sun. I say this was quite an artistic addition to the appeal of the museum.

A sign we see a lot yet is still neglected by many. If they don't manufacture it, I guess we don't need this sign anymore. I did mention before that smoking is prohibited in all train stations of Vienna, those who get caught will pay 60euros!

See how sad the faces of the dog and kid are? Because bikes and dogs are not allowed in the grounds.

As mentioned last Friday, this statue of Franz Joseph I can be found at the mezzanine of Albertina, one of the more popular art museums in Vienna. It houses one of the largest and most important graphics collections in the world with approximately 65,000 drawings and approximately 1 million old master prints, as well as more modern graphics works.

The collection of paintings was created by Duke Albert of Saxen- Teschen with the Genoese count Giacomo Durazzo (Austrian ambassador in Venice). In 1776 the count presented 30.000 pieces of art to the Duke Albert and his wife Marie-Christine. Graf Giacomo Durazzo - brother of Marcello Durazzo (Doge of Genoa) - "wanted to create a collection for posterity that served higher purposes than all others: education and the power of morality should distinguish his collection..." In the 1820s, Archduke Charles initiated further modifications of the building by Joseph Kornhäusel, which affected mostly the interior decoration. After Archduke Charles, Archduke Albert and Archduke Friedrich, Duke of Teschen lived in the building.

In early 1919, the building and the collection passed from the Habsburgs into the ownership of the Republic of Austria. In 1920, the collection of prints was unified with the collection of the former imperial court library. The name Albertina was established in 1921. In March 1945, the Albertina was heavily damaged by bomb attacks. The Albertina was completely refurbished and modernized from 1998 until 2003. (source Wikipedia)

Although not as big even half of the Louvre, the museum presented an impressive collection. Monet and Picassos' works were featured along with other impressionists at the upper floor. Paul Klee's works, mostly on paper were also exhibited at the ground floor (well technically just by the entrance which is the mezzanine). As well as Oskar Kokoschka's, an Austrian expressionist, poet and playwright who has been hospitalized after the war and diagnosed as 'unstable.' Nevertheless, he continued his art until he died. His works of late are exhibited too until July 13.

By the way, it was the first time (or second) I was told not to take photos (first time was while in the mall), good thing I only had my phone camera then, hubby had the real one lol. I put away my phone with very few photos taken. These photos were taken with the bigger camera ;-)

A statue of Emperor Franz Jonas at the mezzanine of a Museum. Situated at the city Center, this area gives one a good view of a little part of the city.

Still at the city center, because I was using a camera phone (Sony Ericsson K770i) this seems a little blurred, but the harshness of the sun seemed toned down a bit, it was so warm and sunny that day!

Sorry for the late posts, my son is in the hospital right now...so I am posting via the automatic publication system of blogger.

See even Silverman is tuned up for the big football event...even though there are demonstrations and a lot of fans around, he stood still watching...unless of course given a coin...

While strolling with the kids one day, we saw this 'signs' which we thought would make people lose their way than find it =D all the more because they are not just streets but cities as well...Can you find your city?

Germany - Austria Fans before the Game

There's no coup 'd etat! If you do not know that there is a football match between Germany and Austria, you might wonder why are the German and Austrian flags being raised like that in the midst of the people.

The fans gather in front of Stephansdom before a match. Cheering and chants could be heard a fews streets away. Its ok really 'cause its outside and in the open, however, while I was inside McDonald's (Singerstrasse) waiting for my takeout order of french fries, a tall German guy was blowing his whistle followed with a loud shout of 'Deutschland.' No personnel nor customer dared to tell him to stop and it was really annoying. To think that the place has a small reception and cashier area (dining is on the lower floor), the whistle echoed really harsh. There were kids (including my daughter) and a baby in the lines, and you would sense that everyone (except for himself and his friends) are annoyed, but they could only shake their head in disagreement to the noise.

At one point, a friend also told me that magazine pages were torn and scattered at one of the train's floors...not typically a Vienna scene.... =(

So far, there are no reports of violence happening between the fans. A significant number of police officers were dispatched in this area as well as the Praterstern and at the Stadium as well.

Alice, I am no fan either, I love basketball better lol. I think France is playing in another set so I haven't seen them yet.

Babooshka, I'd tell hubby about your comments, I'm sure he'd appreciate that. England here or not, Hooligans are still around. =D

The photos for this series is courtesy of Harold Khan a.k.a. "Hubby" =D. A month ago, the heavy camera broke down and we had it repaired, today hubby got it back from the shop and had sample shots before going home.

Dong, pardon the interruption, I'd have to post the zoo photos later.

The match for June 12; Austria versus Poland. At the city center, fans of all the teams did enjoy having to dance and cheer for their team. Hubby said, the fans of the Austrian team were outnumbered, he in fact saw 4-5 persons there, 4 of them are in the above photo.

The two teams carry the same colors, red and white..following the same design as their flags.

As I mentioned in yesterday's comments, we went to the Tiergarten (zoo) as a Kindergarten field trip. My 2 boys were there and daughter tagged along as she goes to school only until 12, the field trip is until 2pm and there'd be no one to pick her up (because I went with the boys too lol).

I had fun photographing the kids there, this is the side of the Villa itself, few steps down and some steps up will get you to the building posted yesterday.

At noon, just before lunch, we spotted some of the deers. The zoo is a 6,054-acre wildlife preserve, which I assume is owned by earlier royalties as a place for hunting.

True enough, wikipedia says that the Lainzer Tiergarten was created by Emperor Ferdinand I in 1561, when the area was fenced off by a wooden fence, to allow for a private hunting ground. In 1781, the wooden fence was replaced by a stone wall. After the fall of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the hunting grounds became a public nature preserve, and have remained so ever since, with the exception of the time period of 1940 to 1955, when the entire grounds were closed. An admission fee existed until 1973, after which the preserve became accessible for free.
A large portion of the Lainzer Tiergarten was lost after World War I.

Today the Lainzer Tiergarten is home to between 800 and 1,000 wild boars, 200 to 250 fallow, deer, approximately 700 mouflons, and 80 to 100 red deer (elk).
