Great video of early stages of a structural fire in Lyons New York. This is a typical scene that you will find when response times are short. Notice the color, density, velocity, and location of the smoke. Can you tell where the seat of the fire is? Is this a "bread and Butter" type response. Just remember that what may seem as a normal run of the mill room and contents may well be a "Hidden Hoarder".

Ok viewsfromthejumpseat, time for another lesson if fighting hoarder home fires. Tools of the trade need for putting these fires out. Fire truck, water,hose, and a bulldozer. Yelp you guessed it, in this video you will see a great illustration of what it may take to get these fires completely out.

Fighting hoarder home fires is a complex animal. First, think of the fire load inside these homes. WOW....With the shear amount of contents on fire not to mention the density of the piles of belongings can make for some fast moving large bodies of fire. Now make it a small fire through a pathway then Bam your looking at pathways to your death.

Some prepare right, get your check list and it may just include the local demolishing company to bring in the heavy equipment to bring the building down to get the fire out!

Who would have ever thought to chalk the tire of the burning vehicle. I must be honest, Not this guy. How many car fires have we ran and never once thought about throwing something under the wheel to keep it from rolling. Well, if this video doesn't make you change your mind nothing will. Great illistration of how they can and will role away, even if on fire.

DEAD HOARDER HOUSE

What a great video on hoarder homes. Just imagine how NO ONE goes into this persons house. Until, that is, they call 911 then it's you that has to go in. Unfortunately this person was beyond 911's help but the next time you may have to enter. Whether for a EMS run or a fire keep in mind that these homes can be a death trap of filthy materials. It doesn't have to be on fire to be dangerous. Just look at all the filth, animal feces, rotten food, and insects that can cause you harm if entering to help someone.

Just as in a fire these homes need to be sized up before entering for a emergency. Notice the cleaners have boot, arm, and dust masks on. You should take these precautions as well if you are entering a hoarder home on a EMS run.

Fools go rushing in comes to mind when dealing with these homes.....stay tuned to the jumpseat for the Hoarder scale and what it means to YOU!!!!

On this day in 2005 the fire service changed forever. In my opinion the events of "Black Sunday" in New York city is a pivotal day in the modern fire service. On "Black Sunday" the FDNY lost three firefighters in two separate fires on opposite ends of the city.

This day made it a reality that things go wrong and the firefighters were forced to jump, two to their deaths. We all should take a moment to pause today and review our mayday procedures to honor the sacrifices made on this day in 2005.

Did you ever want to know what it's like being a proud member of the fire service. Here is what is all about.

"Kyle is an 11 yr old honorary member of the Barnegat Fire Company, he is losing his battle with cancer and was sent home to be with his family and friends until the Lord calls him home. As one of his last wishes for Ocean Of Love he wanted to see a parade of Fire Trucks pass by his house. So Ocean of Love and The Barnegat Fire Company and MANY other companies banded together to make that happen. We had an overwhelming response when we called for assist. We ended up having over 35 companies and nearly 100 trucks. For so many people to take time out of their busy lives this time a year really shows what the meaning of Christmas is all about. It was a surprise for Kyle and to get to be apart of something so amazing really touched my heart. Please keep Kyle and his family in your prayers! God Bless Kyle!! Courage for Kyle!

God bless the men and women of the fire service for showing such care to this young boy! It truly goes to show you what our world is about. Helping others!

What a Horrible scene! A couple of points come to mind while watching video of this horrible scene! First, how about the people who grab their phones and cameras instead of a jack? WOW, have we really came to a point in our society that everyone is to scared to jump in an save this man? Everyone didn't seem to mind taking pictures of this poor sole! Second, crib, crib, crib!
