Gate Decor Holiday Tips!

The holidays are meant to be a time to enjoy precious moments spent with family and friends, but all too often we find ourselves rushing to decorate our homes perfectly inside & out. The good news is a few garlands of evergreens, a colorful wreath on the front gate, or an arrangement of simple votives flickering on the mantel can create an abundance of spirit.

Here are some quick reminders to keep your gates cheerful yet functional.

1) Check the cover to the control box or operator is on and secured.

2) Check the covers on your photo eyes to make sure that they are secure.

3) Check the alignment of the photoeyes and no decor is getting away of the beam.

4) Check the keypad- Make sure that the cover/face plate is on securely.

6) Check the track on your slide gate or the path of your swing gate (make sure that there isn't any debris that will affect the operation of the gate).

7) Make sure that any decoration or foliage that could affect your gating system are tied back or cut.

We are delighted to announce that Viking Access Systems now has lowered the cost of our larger 45-watt panels and our 35 amp hour batteries, making solar installations more cost effective.

A smaller panel and battery may work for summertime, but not during winter. So prevent the service call in the snow, and go with a larger panel and battery with your installations.

In case you haven't heard, we have a new, larger ECU box that can house (2) 35 amp hour batteries. For non-solar applications, you can now add an outlet to these larger boxes. Please specify on your order that you would like the outlets installed in the boxes as this is an add on option.

Today is TechTip Tuesday! With the weather warming back up there are some simple things that you can do to check your gate opener for winter damage. First thing you can do is take off the cover and make sure that no critters have decided to call your gate opener home. Another thing that you can do is check all points of motion and make sure that they are properly aligned and lubricated. If you have a slide gate check the track for any dents or cracks that may have occurred from ice.

First off, the revisions only apply to operators manufactured after January 12th, 2016. Second, the new standard only requires ONE monitored safety device in order to function. Today Is Tech Tip Tuesday! When installing a Viking slide gate opener, it is very important to have the correct amount of catenary(slack) in the chain. We recommend 6”- 8” of catenary in the chain for Viking operators. This will help reduce overall current draw and ultimately reduce the stress on the gearbox.

We have designed all our operators with you in mind! One thing most people do not know, is that we designed our control boards to be mounted at a 45 degree angle on our slide gate operators for a reason. We did it like this so the board is visible from a standing position. This will keep you up right and out of the mud, dirt and snow.

It’s Tech Tip Tuesday! All 2nd generation Viking slide gate openers come standard with digital limits. In order to set the digital limits you are first going to hold down the open and close limit buttons until they start blinking. Move your gate to the desired limit, stop it, hold down the corresponding limit button until it stops blinking and goes on solid. Repeat this for the other limit and you'll be set!

It’s tech tip Tuesday! If you’ve been dealing with the blizzards and cold weather lately there are some things that you can do to ensure your gate continues to perform as usual. The first is to grease your chain, all hinge points and any wheels or rollers your gate may have with the proper grease. This will help to keep them from freezing up as the grease will keep the water from resting. If anything else comes, just call our tech support we’ll get through it together.

With all the crazy weather that's been going on it is very important to check your automatic gate to ensure you do not damage your system. Be sure that there is no ice on the track, wheels or chain during the cold winter months. Running your gate in these conditions could cause it to malfunction.
