VikingsTailgate.com

The Fans Boo Moss! What the Hell Were they Thinking? It was December 9, 2001 after the Vikings vs. Titans game at the Metrodome. Before the game, fans were in the tailgating lots wearing lots of negative t-shirts and #84 jerseys with “blocked out” red tape to show their disgust with a recent arrest for possession of drugs after Super Freak had hit a parking ticket police officer. In short it was the beginning of end and WCCO TV broadcasted the day events in an “ANTI-MOSS REPORT ” The sort news report interviewed several Washington Avenue Tailgaters, including one of our lot friends, the Purple Pimp. Back then there was only one Purple Pimp and he was a regular with the Vikings Tailgate.com spot in the lots. Like everyone, he was always welcome to come party, many of us did not endorse this type of opinion about Moss! In the report, Purple Pimp and other Vikings fans were calling for Moss’s head, and a Twin Cities radio station even had a contest for people wearing anti-moss Vikings attire. It’s comments and behavior like this that pretty much demonstrate why Vikes fans are known as being fickle. Never one to shy away [...]

VikingsTailgate.com - Minnesota Vikings fans and tailgating antics!

VikingsTailgate.com

I was watching Minnesota Vikings videos on Vikings.com and stumbled upon an interview with Fran Tarkenton. His comments about Christian Ponder indicate that the rookie is the “Real Deal” and he mentions a easy solution for building a new Vikings stadium too. The Vikings quarterback from the Purple People era also mentioned that he had started a new Fantasy Football site called FantasyFran.com. I just had to find out what his take on Fantasy Football would be. The interview inspired me to join this new site for free, and it even offered the chance for winning an autographed jersey for being one of the first 500 to sign up. Vikings tailgaters are always chatting about Fantasy Football in the parking lots at the Metrodome, so why not find out what Fran Tarkenton’s advice for choosing next weeks starters? Check out the Tark’s promotional video for his new venture from You Tube: Fran Tarkenton was my boyhood hero. I remember watching the Hall of Fame quarterback scramble around the gridiron every Sunday while growing up on the farm in South Dakota. He doesn’t disappoint, providing insightful perspective on players in today’s NFL with an old school eye for the game.

VikingsTailgate.com

This is just sad. After the latest border battle Vikings Packers game, I ran across this video showing a very disheartened little Viking girl crying in despair. Of course, the video didn’t get ignored by Packers fans, who of course took the opportunity to bash all Minnesota fans on the site Total Packers, writing After Monday night’s throttling, Vikings fans were, well, nowhere to be found. We suspected many of them were draping ropes over beams in their barns… after they finished fucking their sheep. We suspected others were drinking themselves into oblivion before coming on to their sister. Some were probably crying uncontrollably. I had to take the high road (you can see my comment on their site). I think the Vikings Packers border battle is as fun as it gets in the NFL, but posts bashing the parents to purposely raise is the ire in the rivalry are just non-sense and banter. It’s almost as classless as Vikings fans chanting “Packers Suck!” whenever the team is mentioned. Rise above it Vikings fans and admit the respect that champions earn. It stinks that our team hasn’t won the big one yet, but stooping down to take pot shots at [...]

VikingsTailgate.com - Minnesota Vikings fans and tailgating antics!

VikingsTailgate.com

Viking Victory Voyage knows tailgating and draft parties. I was never a big into the Annual Vikings Draft Party. It just always seemed too extreme to this humble tailgater until 2008. That’s the year I hooked up with some friends from the emerging group calling themselves the Viking Victory Voyage (VVV)., I met many of the people from Viking Victory Voyage in 2007 when the Vikingstailgate.com crew hosted several game day parties for them in purple lot #1 that season. In 2008 my best friend, Saueey drove to Winter Park with the goal of seeing what the Vikings NFL Draft Party was all about. We ran into several members of the VVV that day, and created this video: As you can see, the Vikings put alot of effort into hosting the NFL Draft Party at Winter Park. With Vikings cheerleaders, (one of them an old co-worker of mine) interactive games, player appearances and tons of memorabilia and give-aways the event is a gold mine for diehard Vikings fans looking for an off-season fix of purple. The 2008 even was a great opportunity to meet up withe Metrodome tailgating crews in another setting to watch the purple draft their future stars.

VikingsTailgate.com

In an article from the Star & Tribune, Arden Hills plan should be a train going nowhere, some good points about the Vikings new stadium are brought up by Patrick Reusse. The most compelling things from the article include: Arden Hills would be the best site for tailgaters and the owner, “…if what we have as our main concerns is Zygi being able to collect $40 per car for thousands of cars on game Sundays, and for Zygi to be able to develop the rest of the large acreage with retail, lodging and offices.” Infrastructure and public transportation already exists for a Metrodome or downtown location and the taxpayers are already on the hook for developemnt “…Minnesota taxpayers are now spending $478 million as our share of the Central Corridor train that will run from downtown St. Paul to Target Field. This goes on top of $292 million that we spent on the Hiawatha Line.” As a tailgater and life-long Vikings fan, who moved to this state because of its pro sports, I want desperately for the team to stay and get new digs and tailgating accommodations. I also want a kick ass tailgate vehicle with a satellite dish, rock’n [...]

VikingsTailgate.com - Minnesota Vikings fans and tailgating antics!

VikingsTailgate.com

From Minnesota Momentum, today I was sent this message to my email box, and I feel obligated to share it with all the tailgaters: This is our team. This is our State. This is our home. That is the final message of a new stadium video the Vikings launched over the weekend that looks back at the franchise’s 50-year tradition in Minnesota and forward to the new stadium vision. “This team is followed by over two million Minnesotans every week and is an important piece of the State’s fabric,” said Lester Bagley, Vikings Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development. “We have a great story to tell, and it’s time for us to take the case for a new stadium more directly to the public and to arm our fans and supporters with the facts.” The video, which has already received over 25,000 views on vikings.com, serves as a kickoff to a broader communications plan designed to provide supporters with accurate facts on the stadium issue, dispel misinformation that currently exists and, most importantly, remind Minnesotans that the Vikings belong in Minnesota. Thousands of fans have shared the link on Facebook and Twitter, while others are placing the video [...]

VikingsTailgate.com - Minnesota Vikings fans and tailgating antics!

VikingsTailgate.com

If you are against a new Vikings stadium, you might want to read this economic impact study conducted by the University of Minnesota. One of the biggest arguments presented from people against a new Vikings stadium goes something like this: “With unemployment so high, and jobs being lost in this bad economy, our legislature needs to focus more on that instead building a playground for a billionaire.” The study addresses this. It was based on just one game, a 2010 playoff vs the Dallas Cowboys. You might remember that game? The tailgating rocked, Vikings fans were at fever pitch and the Purple People absolutely ripped the Cowboys apart! They even made all-pro linebacker Keith Brooking cry “sour grapes.” Of course the NFC championship game the following week made ALL OF US Vikings fans cry, so I digress. Here are some valid points that were made about jobs generated from just one Viking game: The average visitor spent $230 while in the Twin Cities to attend the Vikings playoff game. The total economic impact of an individual playoff game visitor’s spending is $359. There were 25,160 visitors (non-metro residents) in attendance of the playoff game. In total, visitors in the metro [...]

VikingsTailgate.com - Minnesota Vikings fans and tailgating antics!
