This beautiful and expertly woven rug is available for sale for $650 including shipping. You can email me at leck@midcoast.com or you can see it in my shop on Etsy just by clicking on the highlighted word.

I created this rug by using wool from the USA . A very good quality rug wool that does not shed it's fiber. Sturdy and long wearing wool spun evenly . It is just the right thickness to lay well on a floor.

New floors I recommend a pad underneath . Warm and inviting it will look good in a hallway or used a stair runner.
I take checks ,charge cards or paypal.

This beautiful Celtic knot was created in iron and also the
number" 13 "and bracket. Andy Leck ,Scottish Lion hammered these curls and shaped this design.
The house in the background is lovely too! A Maine Cape with Federal style trim. A classic in this neighborhood. Those are wonderfully kept wooden shutters painted a classic green. My hubby with his New England fishermen accent calls this green,"ma larky" green. Huh???
He has a dialect that is slowly disappearing. Our old connection to England has been replaced with a "Cosmopolitan" dialect.
When we leave Maine and go to Pa,MD or Va to do shows it really stands out and folks have a hard time sometimes understanding him. Sometimes I even have to translate.
Hee hee!
I just finished them and had to take a picture for you. They are actually going to VA to a customer that ordered 3 panels and 3 panels in the Red Rust and Sand that I show below in the next picture. What a treat it is to make these as you pull the cord they draw up into a soft curved swag. Release the cord and they give you privacy at night. I lined these to give the fabric that I wove, I might add on a hand loom, more life and protection from harmful sunlight.

My studio with new items on display

Hi ,Here is a look at my studio today. I just finished up this Burgundy tablecloth ,a throw, and various sizes in table linens for an order. I thought I would set them out and take a picture of them before shipping them off.

The burgundy is called small windowpane check and is created with a black yarn. It is all Texas cotton that I used and can be machine washed. I already washed this fabric and there was no problem with the color running. the folks that make this yarn are fantastic. It is a long staple cotton that is grown in Texas . I t has been awhile since I have used such a terrific yarn. So much of our cotton comes from overseas.
The chair in the picture was hand made here in Maine . The color is very close to the color of the fabric I wove!

Hope you enjoyed this look around .

He delicately twists and shapes the iron to hold an average size plate of 12-14 inches big but if you have a larger plate or deeper plate Andy can adjust the design to hold your treasured plate beautifully. I have set a paypal button up to the left in the margin to order 6 of one design plus $10.50 to ship . They come in a Ram design at the top (dble scroll) or a Plain spade tip ,or a Heart design. They are hung up with two screws into the wall.

close up of paper bobbin being wound weaving shuttle in background

Ok, I have been wanting to share this with you. This is an old piece of weaving equipment with an old spool of weaving yarn still in its original wrapper. These were given to me by various people who did not want to throw them away but thought since I weave and their mother or aunt use to weave then I would want to have them. Boy !are they right!I just love my old things. They tell me how hard they worked and what pride they had in creating the items that they felt their family would enjoy.
To use this bobbin winder you have to make paper bobbins to hold the yarn . It is then removed off the shaft and put into the weaving shuttle.
What a lot of use this winder must gave seen. The shaft is a little bent but still winds. It is belt driven with a leather belt still in good shape.

paper bobbin in shuttle

The bobbin winder is cast iron and hand cranks . The shuttle I have to tell you about. The shaft in the middle is a whittled stick that won't come out now but did remove to put the paper bobbin on. Weavers call these "boat shuttles" as these are shaped like boats.

Now with crank out windows this old term is losing meaning.Nine over six casement windows are on all older homes around here. This means there are 9 panes of glass over 6 panes of glass.

So they named fabric with this grid windowpane. Now the light brown yarn is pumpkin in my way of thinking and the tan is a gray tan . You can see on my Facebook page that I made a bedspread also out of this fabric.
All cotton 50 inches wide by 72 inches long machine washable and dry .

I have hemmed all the way around this throw with hand stitches and added my label.

I have never tried black as a alternative to tan but I have a feeling it would look wonderful. What do you think?
The cost of these two throws purchased together will be $160.00 If you order online with paypal I will give you FREE SHIPPING for the month of March 2011.
I don't seem to have a photo on hand . I will have to photograph it while on the loom. I am weaving it 50 inches wide and the finished width will be around 45-46 inches wide. Yep ! you loose that much in the weaving take up an then when I wash it to set the fabric it shrinks some more. I will probably put on 10 yards of cotton thread sett at 18 ends to the inch . Let's see 18 ends times 50 inches is 900 threads to handle . Just a short warp. I am waiting to hear from an interior decorator if I am going to be weaving two mohair throws for a yacht in the Caribbean. I don't want to have a lengthly warp on the loom holding up the flow.

I enjoy color and watching the fabric grow with each throw of the shuttle.

There is a rhythm that happens . A peaceful rocking back and forth with repeated motion. It is so apart of my daily activity for hours I spend working at the loom.

I have two big warps to weave after that .

When I finish weaving the warp I cut it off the loom and sew the ends and put it in the washing machine with cold water and soap. There are spinning oils in the cotton thread that I need to wash out to make the fabric soft to the touch. After it is washed and dried I cut it into table runners , square cloths and napkins.

I use a stay stitch about 1 inch from the edge to hold fast the threads and then I fray the edges making fringe. I prefer a turned hem though cause it holds up better with repeated washings.

Ok , enough of my ramblings , tell me about your craft . There is a moment when creating there is a feeling of soothing. Don't you agree?

Thought you might like to take a studio tour .Notice the flag in the window and the new design for a rag rug hanging on the back of the rack. Very popular and has been keeping me busy weaving these colors . You can see how I weave sitting at the loom and using cloth strips that I hand cut and weave into the warp on the loom. As I weave I advance the warp . There is usually 10 yards of yarn on the loom. I have woven as much as 30 yards of one style fabric this year . It takes me a month to weave 30 yards by 60" wide .

All cotton materials I used brown yarn for the ground warp .Khaki and Burgundy for the strips and cut blue jean strips for field. Woven into it is a generous rod pocket that can take a fat wooden rod or have the Scottish Lion provide an iron rod for $12.00
