Dodgers and Metrolink: The Rail Series May 27 and 28

The Dodgers and Metrolink have partnered on the Rail Series which will provide special round-trip service between Oceanside and Los Angeles (Union Station) on May 27 and 28 for fans traveling to Dodger Stadium for the two-game series, Monday at 5:10 p.m. and Tuesday at 7:10 p.m., against the Angels.

The Rail Series service will be highlighted with Metrolink station events, including an appearance in Fullerton on Monday by Dodger Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda who is scheduled to be at the station beginning at 2 p.m. and will ride the train from Fullerton to Union Station. The day’s festivities will begin at 1:30 p.m. with an appearance by Dodger alumni Jay Johnstone and Kenny Landreaux at the Fullerton and Irvine Metrolink stations respectively. Johnstone will also board the train heading to Los Angeles.
On Tuesday, Orange County Line train 609 will bring fans from Oceanside to Union Station, while a special train will be offered for passengers to their return destination. The station events will include Dodger attractions including a pitching inflatable, photo opportunities and autograph signings. Both days, all Little League and other youth baseball players who are dressed in their team uniforms can ride free with a fare paying adult.

Metrolink tickets will be available the day of the event at Orange County Line stations. Adult round-trip tickets are just $7, while senior/disabled and youth (ages 6-18) tickets are just $6 and $4, respectively. Children ages 5 years and under ride free with a paying adult. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the game only, while no advanced ticket sales are available from the Metrolink ticket vending machines (TVM). The May 27 Rail Series special train is the only Metrolink service offered on Memorial Day, with the exception of a pair of round-trip Antelope Valley Line trains. Ticket information can be found by visiting www.metrolinktrains.com/railseries.

Metrolink is partnering with the Dodgers, Angels, the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC), Metro, the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) and the City of Fullerton to provide transportation to the Rail Series.

The special Metrolink train service will complement the Dodger Stadium Express buses operated by Metro from L.A. Union Station to Dodger Stadium and back.

For the fourth consecutive year, LA Metro is offering the Dodger Stadium Express bus service. Dodger game day tickets are honored as payment to ride the bus service and the shuttle operates 90 minutes before the game and 45 minutes after the game. Fans are encouraged to use the many transportation alternatives that serve Union Station and that will connect them to the new Dodger Stadium Express. For specific route and schedule information, fans can visit www.metro.net or call 323.GO.METRO.

In addition to the Rail Series and the Dodger Stadium Express, this season the Dodgers have also supported alternative transportation to Dodger Stadium through events such as Bike Week Los Angeles’ “Bikes Baseball and Dodger Blue Ride,” a special bicycle ride between Union Station and Dodger Stadium. More than 100 cyclists rode to Dodger Stadium on May 11. Additionally, the Dodgers encourage cycling to the ballpark all season long free parking and bike racks located in Dodger Stadium parking lots B, D, G, L, N and P.

What's going on at Dodger Stadium for three game series against the St. Louis Cardinals?

For the series against St. Louis, Levy Restaurants is offering a special extreme loaded dog, the St. Louis BBQ dog will feature an all-beef hot dog topped with pulled pork and crispy onions. Extreme loaded dogs concession stands are located on the Loge and Reserve level.

Chris Capuano vs Lance Lynn

Lil Jon, rapper, record producer, entrepreneur and international DJ who was a member of the group Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz, will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Lil Jon will also announce the Dodgers’ starting lineup.

It is YMCA Night at Dodger Stadium. Several local YMCAs will be on hand.

Tonight, U.S. Army Specialist Tyler Jeffries will officially start the game with “It’s Time for Dodger Baseball!” Jeffries was deployed to Afghanistan in April 2012 and spent six months overseas until he was severely injured on a clearing mission in October 2012. Jeffries lost both of his legs and is undergoing vigorous physical and occupational therapy at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington D.C. He is currently in Los Angeles to meet his new Red Cross service dog and service dog trainer, Brandon McMillan, who has been preparing Jeffries’ new dog to be of service to him.

Tonight, A.J. Ellis and Brandon League will host a total of 500 guests from Vision to Learn, including kids who received eye glasses through the charity and their families. The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation recently partnered with Vision To Learn, a non-profit organization that provides free eye exams and free glasses to elementary students in low-income communities throughout Los Angeles, and held a launch event on May 13 at Dorris Place Elementary School, where Dodger General Manager Ned Colletti, Ellis and League joined the charity’s founder, Austin Buetner, to distribute glasses to students. The youngsters will be recognized on the field as part of pregame ceremonies. The Vision to Learn Mobile Eye Exam vehicle will be in lot F.

All fans are invited down to the field for Friday Night Fireworks presented by Denny’s.

Ted Lilly vs John Gast

It is Jaime Jarrín Bobblehead Night presented by Time Warner Cable. Auto and stadium gates open early at 1:45 p.m. The first 50,000 fans in attendance will receive the first-ever Dodger Stadium bobblehead of Jarrín. The first 20,000 fans will receive a Universal Studios coupon for a free kids’ ticket with a purchase of an adult ticket.

The Hall of Fame Dodger broadcaster and “the Spanish Voice of the Dodgers” is in his 55th season at the helm of the Dodgers’ Spanish-language radio broadcast on Univision Radio KTNQ 1020 AM. A native of Ecuador, Jarrín began his professional baseball broadcasting career in 1959 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the same year the club won the World Series, the first in Los Angeles franchise history.

He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998 as the recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award. During his unprecedented Spanish-language broadcasting career, he has called three perfect games, 16 no-hitters, 26 World Series and 21 All-Star Games. Jarrín called the Dodgers’ World Championships in 1959, ’63, ’65, ’81 and ’88. Since broadcasting his first game on April 14, 1959, Jarrín has called countless iconic moments in Los Angeles Dodger history.

Saturday’s Veteran of the Game is U.S. Army Master Sergeant Bobby Farmer of Bluefield, West Virginia. Farmer enlisted in 1992, took Special Forces training and was assigned to the 3rd Special Forces Group. Farmer was an engineer with Operational Detachment Alpha 391. He has served in Kosovo, Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan on several deployments. He is currently undergoing treatment for injuries he sustained from an improvised explosive device. His accolades include the Bronze Star for Valor, the Army Commendation for Valor and the Purple Heart.

It is Viva Los Dodgers and MLB Network drawstring bag giveaway day on Sunday. The first 40,000 fans in attendance this Sunday will receive a MLB Network drawstring bag.

Viva Los Dodgers presented by Chevrolet, State Farm and Time Warner Cable, pregame family-friendly festival, begins at 11:10 a.m. in Lot 6. Live music will feature Grammy-nominated Latin pop fusion band and Viva Los Dodgers Day alumni La Santa Cecilia and Jungle Fire, an afro-latin funk band with roots stemming deep in LA’s funk scene. La Santa Cecilia consists of accordionist Jose Carlos, bassist Alex Bendana, percussionist Miguel Ramirez and lead vocalists La Marisol. The band is currently on US tour with Jesse & Joy and their latest album Treinta Dias features the single “El Hielo (ICE)” with Elvis Costello. Dodger alumnus Bobby Castillo will sign autographs from 11:10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Adrian Gonzalez’s Viva Los Dodgers will host families from the Southeast Rio Vista YMCA, an organization dedicated to strengthening the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility in Southeast LA. Gonzalez and wife Betsy will host families on Viva Los Dodgers Day throughout the season. Adrian Gonzalez’s Viva Los Dodgers Days provides all-inclusive All-You-Can-Eat Right Field Pavilion tickets and parking for families in greater Los Angeles by partnering with various non-profit organizations.

At each Viva Los Dodgers, the Dodgers recognize outstanding leadership and service in the Latino and greater Los Angeles community with the “Heroe de la Comunidad” award. This Sunday’s recipient is Executive Director of the Weingart East LA YMCA and Southeast Rio Vista YMCA Victor Dominguez.

Cedric the Entertainer, actor, comedian and director best known as the co-star of “The Steve Harvey Show,” as Eddie in the Barbershop films, and as one of the four comedians featured in the Spike Lee film “The Original Kings of Comedy,” will throw the ceremonial first pitch. He will also announce the Dodgers’ starting lineup and officially start the game with “It’s time for Dodger baseball!”

Genesis Rodríguez who plays Marisol in Universal's latest comedy, “Identity Thief,” will throw an honorary first pitch.

NFL Network “Thursday Night Football” and “Game Day Morning” host Rich Eisen will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Eisen also has a podcast that can be downloaded on iTunes.

In a continued effort to offer additional family-friendly entertainment at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers will offer additional musical entertainment in the Reserve level plazas located on the first and third base sides. Latin Grammy-nominated Trio Ellas and British singer and songwriter Desi Valentine will provide live entertainment.

Sunday’s Veteran of the Game is U.S. Army and Air Force Staff Sergeant Nick Domigo of Bicknell, Indiana. Domigo enlisted in 1942 and served as a Military Police Officer with the Air Force, the 777th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion and the 80th Air Base Group and as battalion cook. Domigo served in in both World War II and the Korean War. Domigo has been a Dodger fan since the club played in Brooklyn.

It is the last Little League Parade of the season. The Dodgers have hosted youth baseball teams from throughout Southern California for decades. Each season, thousands of youth baseball and softball players and their families visit Dodger Stadium. Little League parades around the warning track include several hundred youngsters and occur prior to games on select Sundays during homestands.

Dodgers reinstate Ted Lilly from the disabled list; option Matt Magill

The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly from the 15-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Matt Magill to Triple-A Albuquerque. Lilly last pitched in a Major League game on April 29 against the Rockies, allowing five runs (four earned) in 3.0 innings in a loss, and went on the DL on May 3 (retroactive to April 30) with a right rib cage strain. Lilly made one rehab start with Single-A Rancho Cucamonga on Wednesday against San Jose and allowed four runs on five hits in 5.0 innings, throwing 75 pitches. The 37-year-old has made two starts this season after opening the season on the disabled list while recovering from left shoulder labrum surgery and is 0-1 with a 5.63 ERA.

Magill, 23, made four starts for the Dodgers in the first Major League action of his career and posted a 5.50 ERA without recording a decision.

So it's the end of Don Mattingly's managerial career?

I've been away the last few days. I didn't see one pitch in the Dodgers/Braves series. All is good, just busy. I hear we got swept. And fans are upset and want Don Mattingly out. Some in the media think Mattingly will be gone soon.

I'm not a big fan of some of his decisions but to fire Mattingly doesn't really make sense in my opinion. So a new manager will come and the Dodgers will start winning? Really?

You want someone to get fired? Fire Ned Colletti. I'm eating breakfast so I don't really want to post all of his moves (Plus I don't want to throw up) but it doesn't take long to see his track record. It's awful. Three year deals to Juan Uribe, Brandon League and Matt Guerrier to name a few.

Look, we've been hit with many injuries and we have no bench. And why is Luis Cruz and Ramon Hernandez still part of this organization?

And why did we take so long to make dl decisions? Who's running the team? The manager/general manager or the players? I will never understand how it took so long to put Mark Ellis on the disabled list. Playing with one man short for so many games is inexcusable.

One more thing, what's with all the anger towards Kenley Jansen? So he makes some bad pitches and was terrible against the Braves and now you want him gone? Jansen is not the problem folks.

The Los Angeles Dodgers today reinstated right-handed pitcher Zack Greinke from the 15-day disabled list and placed right-handed pitcher Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to May 14) with a left groin strain. Greinke will make his third start of the season tonight (1-0, 1.29 ERA), after suffering a fractured left clavicle during an altercation with Carlos Quentin on April 11 at San Diego. He underwent surgery on April 13 to fix the injury, as a metal plate was used to stabilize the fracture, and threw 80 pitches in a rehab start on Friday for Single-A Rancho Cucamonga at Lake Elsinore, allowing eight runs (three earned) on six hits in 4.1 innings in a no-decision.

Beckett has made eight starts for the Dodgers this season, going 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA.

Here I am with Ken McMullen at Autograph Alley a few years ago...

I keep getting emails asking what happened to Autograph Alley at Dodger Stadium. For those that didn't know, the Dodgers are no longer doing Autograph Alley. You can meet a former player on Sundays at Viva Los Dodgers.

I thought Autograph Alley was great at the beginning. I met former players and obtained their autographs and was a nice way to get a quick autograph. But I noticed it was always the same guy. I never did go to Autograph Alley the last two years because it was someone who I had already met.

I did confirm with someone in the Dodgers organization and he said it's not happening this year.

By the way, there is one guy that signed a few times in Autograph Alley but every time he was scheduled to sign I was busy and couldn't go. That was Joe Moeller. I never did get to meet Moeller. Hopefully the Dodgers bring him at a Viva Los Dodgers event.

Recording artist Roxy Darr, who just toured New York and London, will perform the national anthem.

Veteran of the Game is U.S. Army National Guard Staff Sergeant Monica Virag of Los Angeles. Virag enlisted in 1996. Her duties included Fuel Operations responsible for refueling of aircrafts and operating and maintaining valves, pumps and filters on fuel transport vehicles. Virag is trained in the containment of fuel spills and frequently called upon to assist with advanced training in refueling. She currently serves with the 224th Sustainment Brigade in Long Beach, CA. Her hit single is “Play it Again” and she performed at KIIS FM’s Wango Tango this weekend.

Hip-hop violinist Josh Vietti will perform pregame Tuesday. Vietti has performed at an NBA All-Star game, on the Ellen show and opened for Earth, Wind and Fire at the Nokia Center. He first performed at Dodger Stadium as part of Reserve level plaza Sunday entertainment on April 28.

Tuesday’s Veterans of the Game is U.S. Army Sergeant Tracey Cooper-Harris of Jersey City, New Jersey. Cooper-Harris served as an Animal Care Specialist assisting the Veterinary Corp Officer in providing care and treatment to Military Working Dogs, government owned animals and the pets of active duty and retired military members.
