Problem: If you have iFrame or multiple frameset in your ASP.NET page, session is lost in the child frame. I have a php app running inside an iframe on an aspx webpage.
I pass a piece of info to this iframe through http parameters, php gets it and then set it in the session. However, the session data is lost when I click submit button and postback occur in child frame . within the same php application works fine if i do not use iframe.

Cause: Due to the browser and Platform for Privacy Preferences (P3P) natures, the child frame will be considered as third party site if the top level domain is different between the parent and child frame. Therefore, default privacy settings of IE (medium) will be used and reject any cookies sent from the third party site (that is your child frame).

Solution: Apart from altering the settings in IE (which may not be possible due to change at every client), the easiest solution is to add a header to the base page and acknowledge it can trusted to the parent site.
Note: (If your parent (aspx) and child(php) are in two different platform then put the required code for p3p setting seperately at top of the code)

I got this error when I was working on a small AJAX demo project the other day. In this project I only have 1 TextBox controls and 1 AJAX CalendarExtender controls: one text box is for a begin date entry controlled by one CalendarExtender. I had a little javascript in head tag to do some popup work:

I've a parent page with a long form. I am opening ajax modal popup extender on the click of a link button.

In login.aspx, I've another form. When the submit button is clicked, I am doing some processing, after that need to close the modal popup window and refresh my parent page, without disturbing the session already created in parent page.

Solution: Earlier i was using iframe to load the login.aspx inside modal popup. Now i have switched to another concept of converting webform to control. As follows:

To convert a code-behind ASP.NET Web page into a user control

Rename the .aspx file so the file name extension is .ascx.
Rename the code-behind file to have the file name extension .ascx.vb or .ascx.cs, depending on what programming language the code-behind file is in.
Open the code-behind file and change the class from which it inherits from Page to UserControl.
In the .aspx file, do the following:
1. Remove the html, body, and form elements from the page.
2. Change the @ Page directive to an @ Control directive.
3. Remove all attributes of the @ Control directive except Language, AutoEventWireup (if present), CodeFile, and Inherits.
4. In the @ Control directive, change the CodeFile attribute to point to the renamed code-behind file.
Include a className attribute in the @ Control directive. This allows the user control to be strongly typed when it is added to a page.

Standards-aware web designers generally know of the z-index bug in all versions of Internet Explorer (though, version 8 is rumored to fix it).

In the W3C’s specs, z-index is designed to affect the stacking order of positioned elements on a web page. So, an element with a z-index of 2 should always appear above an element with a z-index of 1.

In Internet Explorer, this doesn’t work like it should. Internet Explorer resets the stack when the positioned elements are separated from each other.

It works fine with IE8, FF etc. However IE7 has a problem to show submenus. It shows the submenu but when I try to navigate in the submenu, it fades out.

The Fix

The fix for this is very simple, but there are incredibly large websites that use jumbled masses of iframes, extra divs, and other horrors to get Internet Explorer to display the dropdowns above the offending elements.
For a fix, we use the following CSS for the header div. See the screenshot for an example of this (again, in IE7). Click it to see a larger version.

Solution

In Report header put a formula @initializeVar which will work as global variable:

In Group Header or Detail Section (Wherever u want) put a formula @updateVar to concatenate the cell value of each row:

In Report Footer finally access the concatenated value from variable by putting a formula field @showVar :

is there an equivalent to PHP include files in ASP.net?

This method is similar to include tag of php which fetch common html tag stored in a text file to any web page.

This applies it to all tables in my project. Somewhere my user want a different td. So to override default table td css i used this in my td tag:

It can also be override by using inline span tag

You can overide css by specifying !Impartent like below

My web app displays controls in uk , indian format ie dd/mm/yyyy
You can retrive date in dd/mm/yyyy format from mysql by folowing query

So once you move the cursor downwards over the submenu, the submenu simply disappears.The drop down menu works in Firefox, but randomly disappears in IE. drop down menus using Javascript to begin with, however, I always recommend using CSS over javascript, unless you need some animation effects (because CSS renders faster then JS and it does not require the browser to have javascript turned on).

ASP.Net with MySQL Problems.

Problem1. SQL datasource wizard having [] in tablename like [table1] getting error. To resolve this either remove [] manually or set sqlservermode =True in connection string

When set to true enables Connector/Net to support square brackets around symbols instead of backticks. This enables Visual Studio wizards that bracket symbols with [] to work with Connector/Net. This option incurs a performance hit, so should only be used if necessary. This option was added in version 6.3.1.

Problem2. SQL datasource wizard generating insert, update command with ? instead of @parametername in values.
Solution: It's a bug. No solution found except to create command manually..Avoid using wizards in case of mySQLConnector. Make a program to create and complete the command. As i have created one

Problem 3: have been getting this error: Unable to convert MySQL date/time value to System.DateTime.

This is when a DATETIME or DATE field contains an invalid value. It turns out that 0000-00-00 which I have used as default value in a DATE column is considered an invalid date. Instead NULL should be used when date/time is not set.

add Allow Zero Datetime=True to the connection string, this allows for 0000-00-00 00:00:00 in a DATETIME column. Just add it at the end of your connection string so it looks something like this:

Solution:
1 connect to your datasource

2) After successfull loading then when you run you may see the normal behaviour of Report which will print Vertically.

To print the details in Horizontal manner do the following,

a) Right click on top of "Section3 (Details)" on the report, select "Section Expert..."

b) On "Section Expert" window (the "Details" section is already highlighted) untik all the checkboxes on "Common" tab

c) Tick the "Keep Together" checkbox and "Format with Multiple Columns",

once you tick the "Format with Multiple Columns", a new tab as "Layout" is displayed

d) Click on the "Layout" tab and set the "Width" for "Detail Size:" (in my case 0.500) and

set the "Vertical" for "Gap Between Details:" (in my case 0.100)

e) select the "Accross then Down" radio button from "Printing Direction:" and click on the "OK" button....

f) you can delete fieleds from pageheader section.

So i tried the uCertify prepkit for web application development with framework 4.0 (M70-515-VB)

The gui is very cool... as shown in pics...
You can choose from variety of tests like diagnostic, Fixed time, adaptive test etc..These all are descriptive multiple choice questions.
It has small multiple choice quiz questions and flashcards where you have to type answers.
Anytime During the test you can make notes, a very nice feature.
The quality of the test is very good. The question belongs to the core of the subject. I have seen many other online test kits which do touch only the common things about the topic. But uCertify prepkit is very enrich in the content. Therefore if you score well in this prepkit then i am sure that you will succesfully clear the actual test. I am saying so because i do amateur programming in ASP.net and i took the test and got failed :). It's a best exam simulator i have ever seen and my criteria for saying so is:
1. Lovely GUI.
2. Simplicity.
3. Association of Notes/Article.
4. Keep Track of your progress for Comparison
5. It will feel like Real Test..

The kit is not only about the test but it also update ur learning by giving descriptive solutions of questions, notes, articles and How To's. Even graphics and step by step guide is also used when required. These are very much helpful, i would suggest u may try demo version from www.ucertify.com . Later u would get benefited by all the functionality after purchasing it. It's worthy by enhancing your knowledge base.
You can judge your performance regularly by various reports.

Cons: I have not found the regular updates of same prepkit in 3-4 days trial. So would like to suggest that if it has some feature to get contribution from users then it would be good to update the prepkit frequently.

This Application converts crystal report with mysql database in to pdf and upload pdf to ftp server running on linux.

1. Create the ODBC connection for mysql from control panel>admin tools> odbc manager. detail http://vinodkotiya.blogspot.com/2011/08/vbnet-with-crystal-report-and-mysql.html

2. in all of crystal report u should have the above connection in rpt files while creating them in crystal designer.

3. put all rpt files in some report folder. Do not have any direct reference to these rpt file in ur vb.net application. The application will scan the report folder and convert all rpt file in to pdf file and put them in pdf folder while uploading via ftp. It will also make a log.

4. open a new web application and use following code.
