For awhile now, I have been wanting to share something that God is teaching me.

You have probably heard it this message stated in lots of different ways. Here is mine. Well, really God's. His words to me and you.

God has created you (insert your name) to be unique and special. He has wired us with gifts and talents that were created just for us. When we use these gifts we are full of joy and life and fill fulfilled. These talents bring God glory when they are used for His purposes in our lives. And these talents look different in everyone. God has designed our personalities, gifts, abilities, life experiences, up bringing, really everything to create you.

You are an original, one-of-a-kind, totally loved, best kind of treasure.

So, figure it out. Be the original person, God created you to be.

Get off the fence. Quit wanting others gifts. Comparison is the thief of joy. Discover who are you are, what you like, what gets you excited and figure out how to incorporate that in your life.

Then start. Take responsiblity for you. Try out new things, look for areas you excel in or where your interests lie. And when you give it a good effort, be satisfied.

Because your talents are not for you. They are meant to be shared with others. They expand when they are used and they mulitply when given away.

It's not always easy. But the best things never are.

Are you ready? Really ready? God has work for you to do and He invites us to join Him in the task of life. He will prepare you, help you, encourage you and equip you. You just need to be willing.

I hope this encouarges you and makes you think. The time is now.

I can't wait to hear what exciting things God has prepared for you and how He will use your gifts for others.

Find & Revive: A furniture story

Find. Buy. Re-do.

That's what I do to most everything piece of furniture I buy it seems. So, I'm used to getting down and dirty with items, but this pair were quite a project.

I really don't have a "first" picture. By the time I took this one, Handy & Handsome had already cut the tops off. I really don't know what these pieces were for orginally, but they had angle wood sides that made us think they were used by an architect. The tops of these pieces were long gone.

H & H had to level the tops first.

These cabinets are very deep and this one had 11 drawers. Yes, the drawers got me!

Told you they were cute!

Cleaning them required the shop vac. Love that piece of equipment.

Once they were cleaned, then H&H cut tops for me. Then I re-stained the wood sides and fronts. Next up was paint! Chalk Paint (AS) is what I used on these pieces.

I wanted some dark wood to show with the paint as a constrast. I used Cream and Chauteau Grey on this piece...

And added in Duck Egg on this one. I wanted them to compliment each other, but not to match exactly.

After paint, I distressed the paint, and wiped a glaze over the paint for an aging effect.

I used some old hardware that got an update with spray paint and clear sealer.

Are you feeling my pain yet? There were so many steps, coats and sealers...

After the glaze was dry, I sealed all the painted parts with an antique polyurathane top coat.

And FINALLY, they were finished! Styling is just the "icing on the cake!"

One more thing... The frame with the map in it was my "test" piece. I used all three paint colors on it to see if they would work together. I liked how they turned out, so then I was good to proceed with big pieces! Frames have so many uses and now this one can be sold as a matching accessory to these pieces.

I think these cabinets would be great in craft or family room. The one on the left would be perfect for games, cards, puzzles and such. The one on the right would be great for craft supplies, scrap book paper, stamps, glitter...all those fun little things!

These are truly 2, one-of-a-kind pieces!

I hope whoever buys them enjoyed them for years to come!

Curbside Chairs

Yes, That's where we found them...on the way to church one Sunday morning. They didn't look quite like this. There was about 5 layers of yucky fabric, covered by some needlepoint seat cushions that once were pretty. I recall that the back piece on one of the chairs was off as well. But after Handsome and Handy got done with them, they were ready for turn. He glued that back piece and cut me new boards for the seats!

I had 2 options of fabric for the chair cushions, both high quality fabrics I had picked up at different sales. I really though they would look great either way, SO I let my Facebook friends vote on their favorite option.

Option A: was to paint the chairs in Old White Chalk Paint by AS and recover the seats in that beautiful woven blue and cream fabric.
Option B: was to clean up the chairs with some new dark stain and recover seats with silky strip fabric.

Overwhelmingly, Option A won by a 2/3 vote. I really thought the paint would win out, BUT when you re-sell you really want to know what style your customers want to buy from you! Anyone agree?

So, off I went to find my paintbrush. Painting these chairs was just what I needed to get me back in the swing of projects! The Spring Barn Sale is coming and I have several large projects to re-store, and these were what I need to get going! I used Old White, with medium distressing. My sweet mom and I tackled the seat with foam, fabric and a staple gun... They look so fresh and ready for another life! Don't you agree?

I'll also be selling these great sofa table this spring...The plates I just purchased. I really like them, I think they will stay at my house for a bit...but then again, who knows? That's the fun about selling!

And there you go...Curbside chairs get a new lease on LIFE! Truly, one man's trash...

This is the JESUS Tree. A tree dedicated to only using the names of Jesus with the ornaments representing that particular name of Jesus. Our list is comprised of 60 names of Jesus with scripture references. We have loved this way of "redeeming" the season of Christmas and learning the wonderful names of Jesus. We sell a set of 60 tags that have a name of Jesus and where that name is found in scripture. You will also receive a 4x6 reference card with all the names and scriptures listed. For example, He is the Door so we used a vintage door knob to represent this name. The fun part is coming up with an ornament/item that represents these names to you and your family.

You will receive a small version of this poster in the set of tags.

These are the set of Jesus Tree Tags.

There are 60 names in our package of tags, so we suggest using a 4-6 ft tree. You can also mix the tags and ornaments in with your regular Christmas tree.

Isn't this a great way to celebrate the true meaning of Christmas, JESUS! After all, we give gifts because God gave us Jesus to the world first.

" For God so loved the world He GAVE His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

These tags have been used in countless ways, here are some ideas to get you thinking:

As an advent...read 3 names and scripture references and hang on the tree each day leading up to Christmas
Use them in your Sunday School Class, have the students bring something that represents a name.
Hanging the tags on a wreath/tree. They look simple and beautiful with out ornaments also.
Use them as gift tags on packages
Have a scavenger hunt with your group/family, divide up tags with groups and see what you can find in nature and in the store (Hobby Lobby is a great place to start.)
The tags have been used by teachers at Christian schools to teach the names of Jesus. Each student is assigned a name and told to find a ornament that represents that specific name. They all bring the ornaments, read the name and scripture, then decorate the tree with HIS names.

We use them as an advent at our house. Each night before bed, we read the names and look up each Bible reference and talk about how Jesus has been that name this year. This has been such a special way to learn Jesus' names and make Him more real to each of us and keep our family focused on the true meaning of Christmas.

The Jesus Tree is also a great witness to your unbelieving house guests and friends without ever saying a word. It is a silent testament to WHO you believe in. Wouldn't it be great if this tree/tags started an conversation about Jesus and what He means in your life?

Trying some new things...

Can I say it? I was getting tired of painting everything in white and blues...I still love those colors and of course they sell really well! But I had to branch out a bit...

We got this piece somewhere along the journey...The drawers were long gone! It got a dose of green paint and then my hubby and I topped it with rulers! It was a fun and pretty easy project! I think it would look great with locker baskets or lined baskets in it!

A perfect piece for a boys or school room...

Then on this table I added some extra color...It looks better in person that this picture...reminds me of

Santa Fe!

I was itching to try out some of the new AS paint colors...English Yellow above with white...

and Graphite below with a stained top...

All will be FOR SALE at our FALL BARN SALE, OCTOBER 16th - 19th!

Vacation. It is a wonderful word.

In our family, we are not done with one vacation before we are discussing where we are traveling to next. We are blessed that our daughter is such a great traveler too, that really helps. On our last vacation to Washington state, we took a ferry boat and hopped on over to Victoria, British Columbia. It was well worth the pennies!

The Empress Hotel - there are not words...Lovely, Amazing, Classy. Yes, I wanted to stay.

Maybe next time.

B.C. Parliament building. Built by the same architect who designed the Empress Hotel. Every detail was stunning. Highly recommend the free tour.

Okay, ~~now that life has gotten under control~~,when does that ever really happen? It doesn't!

All that to say, hopefully my blog post will be a little closer together now that summer is here!

One great thing about summer is all the sales! Estate, garage, free on side of road sales...and last month I spotted this little treasure. This is the back pictured, but it was a little white handmade dresser. As I considered purchasing it, I saw that it had ( SURPRISE!) green paint underneath the white. I bought it quickly and couldn't wait to distress it.

Can you spot of any chippy green paint?

How about now? It sanded off wonderfully...I love it when that happens!

Look at that the green, just FAB! Sometimes, I excited about the silliest stuff.

You can tell it is a handmade piece, the drawers don't quite fit just right, I'm sure that person just used whatever wood they had on hand.

Vintage Perfection...

Chippy green and white, one of my favorite combo's...I think this little chest would be perfect setting on a work table or craft space. Think of the treasures it could hold!

I sealed it up and it's off to the barn for the fall sale...maybe it will go home with you!

Just sharing a quick recent project piece...

She had good bones, some cute curves, but so many layers of paint! YIKES!

I guess she was worth it!...I re-did a cute chair that matches too...a great piece with storage...Yippee!

Now, on to the next piece...

Client "A" - adding some color!

Well, I noticed it has been a long time since I posted, (sigh) I just can't seem to get it all done...can anyone else relate? Of course, that doesn't mean I haven't been busy...with Valentines Day, decorating for clients, selling an item per day this month on Facebook, buying fun things and the ever-present and increasing project pile...well, you know all the normal things...blogging just has not happened!

All that being said, I thought I would show you a few pictures from a client who's room got some decor and color...

By the way, these pictures are not great and certainly not "pin" worthy, but I hope you enjoy them anyway!

This sweet client is like many folks I meet, they have good taste, buy "current" items, but get stuck knowing how to put them all together...In addition, this is a rental house for the client, so she is "stuck" with the wall/carpet color and limited on what can be changed!

Our first step was to see what she already had and try to use that in a fun, new way!

We did purchase some items for her, working within her budget...

She had some really cool items, some purchased from the barn, so we know she liked our "look" - whatever that may be!

The first three pictures are "before"...

And now

we get to "after"...

That large fireplace was the focal point of the room for sure...she had that wonderful, colorful print and that was our starting place...We placed it vertical for added interest and a less traditional look.... The blue frame, letter A, books, tiny chair, and blue ice cream bucket were from the barn...

On this little space we hung original art work she had and added pillows to this darling bench!

This wall is her entry way...she had a picture gallery going and we re-hung it and added some color with the cross and some of her items...We also pulled this great, funky chair out of another room...it was so fun!

Also, we added a rug in a pretty blue...I admit, these pictures are bad...but we only had our camera phones...

Of course, pillows were purchased, adding instant color to the neutral sofa....

We started her wall slightly over the TV, so she could add more items and color if she desires...I like the fact that it is not centered over the TV...I think this adds interest to a long wall...

We also hung up these owl hangers she purchased from the barn to hold her bags and purse...They are fun and perfect for that small space!

We had fun doing this project and hopes she enjoys her rooms more now!

Painting Again: Before and After!

What can I say? The projects are piling up and I will get them done!

( at least that is what I'm telling myself!)

Here she is "before!" I love the dark finish on this piece and the curves she has!

I had fun jazzing her up with Old White and Coco!

She distressed great!

I think this little desk would blend with most and decor and especially go well with all you gals who love whites and neutrals!

Hard to get going again!

It's winter...in Texas - which means it gets cold, usually wet enough...and this week we have even had sleet!
I know that is NO BIG DEAL to you NORTHERN people, but us Texans just don't do winter well!

( at least, I don't!)

So, that's my excuse for a slow start to blogging and projects for this new year...

I do have a few to share and lots more in the works, so here's what I done or found so far..

The Barn around Town!

I'm a buyer at heart, I'll confess! It's really what I like to do and I when I'm out shopping for the barn sales, I'm ALWAYS on the lookout for a good display piece! Display is KEY to selling really anything and having an interesting piece makes all the difference. I know you like to shop at stores where things are presented in an interesting way, so do I!

Because a girl can't keep everything she buys, she has to part with it and really just as much as I love to find and buy it, I really love to see the piece PUT to GOOD USE!

Here are 2 wonderful shops that have bought display pieces from me...I thought I would give them a shout out and show you how these pieces got used!
