I was collecting images of model train sets the other day and found myself focussed on the ones with people and their trains. They all seemed so happy. What other hobby can do this to so many people? So many of such a wide variety of age and gender? I put the images together into a video that you can watch here: The Greatest Hobby In The World.

A Model Railway Club is one of the best ways of getting up-to-date information and help from experts in our beloved hobby. I joined an online model railway club and it has made an amazing difference to the enjoyment I get from my trains. I highly recommend you find a club you are happy with. An online club is great for information and help. But if you are looking for more of a get-together social interaction, look for something in your area.

I found this article about a train exhibit in Fort Wayne, Indiana - Exhibit Shows City's Railroad History. This year's theme was the Pennsylvania Railroad in the tri-state area.

It's almost Christmas time again. Can you believe how fast this year has gone by? It seems like only yesterday we were packing the Christmas decorations away. I'm looking forward to a relaxing Christmas Day with my family - and lots of time over the holidays to play with my trains. Young Minds Delight At Model Train Display

There's nothing more fascinating than watching young children marvel at a model train display. Their eyes light up in wonderment. And when a train jumps out from within a tunnel, it's like magic. Mostly its the movement that captivates them. Once they have watched the moving trains for a bit, their eyes start to wander over the layout. A whole world laid out in front of their eyes. Here's where you can really capture them if you have some amusing scenes, or something they didn't expect to see. I was inspired to write this when I read the article Model Trains Fascinate Fans In Webster, on the STLtoday.com site.

When you create your layout, and for most of us this is a private thing in our own home (not a public display), include some funny scenes or things that make you look closer to see what's going on. Whether your goal is to delight your children, or your grandchildren, or just for yourself, humor and/or interesting scenes add personality to your layout and help bring it to life.
