A guaranteed way to create more sales is to go on holiday.

Why is that??But hey I'm not complaining!!

We are now back from our little Byron Bay experience.

It rained and rained and so that means only one thing, a gourmet tour of the region.

We took a 'rain check' on my sister's birthday present to me, her red Audi convertible and I'm glad as we would have had no chance to use all the features!! So I left the spotty head scarf at home and I'll take up that offer another time.

Byron, Brunswick and Bangalow were all lovely places, a lot has changed but the vibe remains the same. We felt safe and welcomed by all the lovely people. I have to say they have some of the best shop assistants I've ever come across. There is lots of great shops and food all over the place.

We saw this fab movie: http://sff.org.au/films-container/i%E2%80%99m-not-dead-yet/ and our Chad Morgan loving friends - we now 'get it'. We attended a singing work shop with this guy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oEKME9i-MsE and came out feeling uplifted!! On the last day we renewed our spirits at the Chrystal Castle: http://www.crystalcastle.com.au/ ready for the long trip home.

I feel like I've really had a break proper and I'm ready for the new year ahead with

lots of plans and energy.

Our accommodation was superb!

Overall BossyGirl and I have had an amazing holiday period, we've seen lots of old friends and had a couple of trips away. There have been lots of sleepovers for Bossy which means lots of me-time for me.

Bossy heads off to a new school in a week and I feel that we've celebrated the end of an era for her.

She has a new and exciting future at a school where the goal is to send kids home excited about what they have learnt, not dumbing them down so they drag their feet and and cry 'I'm so bored'.

I'm off to school again. It's time for certificate IV in Fashion Design and Technology and I'm beside myself with excitement!! I can't wait to share that with you.

But today it's business as usual, I'm adding more fabric onto the website, I must get more sewing patterns onto ebay if I can and then I have to start packing the huge pile of orders since I've promised they will all be posted on Monday.

Have you ever accidentally subscribed or filled in a form that lead to

hundreds of unsolicited emails from strange web sites in languages you have never seen before!

No?

Well I did.

I don't know when or where but I get at least three weird emails a day.

After a while of this, a few hundred, I decided to be proactive about them, rather than just bouncing them like I was.

I decided to find out exactly what they were and so copied and pasted them into

Google Translate

And I found out that they were in fact rather innocent albeit annoying.

they are not someone trying to steal my super secret personal info (yes that is a joke)

but rather just websites selling stuff, lots of stuff I don't need and most of them

in Portuguese.

I found that if I hovered my mouse over the words that looked like 'unsubscribe' or similar I can work out what to press to take me to the Unsubscribe page and that's exactly what I do.

Hey! Yes, I know I sell a lot of things.

But there is nothing more satisfying than selling

something you have made with your own hands and

in a way that pleases you greatly.

As an experiment I listed these cushions on Ebay.

The first one sat there till I thought they

would just gather dust on my shelf.

And then boom!! one sold, I re-listed, sold another.

Listed the final one and that same day, it too sold.

All in the one week.

I am pleased with the results...Just maybe

handcrafted items do have a place on Ebay.

I want to list more, I just have to find the time to make them.

(Sometimes harder than the selling)

In my family the words 'Too Rich' are not in our vocabulary.

I think only once in my life have I ever uttered them

and that was last year - flour-less chocolate cake from here.

Thinking about it now I regret Bossy and I couldn't finish it! Gasp!

My mum has made this same chocolate mousse for Christmas every year for the last

50. Hard to believe isn't it. 50 years of chocolate mousse.

Bossy and I did it this year, this morning.

It's the most amazing mousse, we think. It came from a friend who's kids were

also babies at the time, but further back than that we don't know.

Maybe it's a common old garden variety Mousse!

Who knows? Who Cares!

It's rich. It's dense. It's not light and fluffy, in fact if there is too much air in we all give it

a thumbs down ...and carry on eating.

Eat it with loads of whipped cream and then lie on the floor.

Mum's chocolate mousse recipe for you....

For each person: 60grams of good dark chocolate: 1 x egg: 1 teaspoon brandy or sherry or some vanilla instead.

Method: Beat the egg yolks with the brandy, whip the whites with a pinch of salt.

add the yolks and brandy to the melted chocolate, then fold through the whipped egg whites. Refrigerate.

Our handmade Christmas

We had big plans to make lots of stuff this Christmas from decorations to gifts.

But I don't know what happened, it rained, it didn't feel like Christmas maybe and

it didn't happen.

Until Yesterday. When in a mad frenzy we made bon bons with a vintage wooden toy, a joke and a lolly in side.

and BossyGirl made this gorgeous tea towel for her father.

I made shortbread for lots of people and refined the process so I now know how to

make it perfectly.

And finally the sun is out, the tree is up and it's Christmas Eve.

There seems to be some sort of vintage caravan movement going on.

Maybe it's been there for a while.

This week alone three people bought fabric to decorate their vintage caravans.

I'm not jealous, not!

Wagging School

Instead of school Bossy and I had a nice relaxing day in Sydney on Wednesday.

Relaxing because we didn't try and do too much.

Just three things, See Picasso, See the Tree at the QVB

and have lunch with our friend 'The lovely Donna'.

8am train there, 5pm train home. Easy.

And because we weren't racing we had time for more;

A chocolate fix at Lindt, an expensive bag fix at LV

and a flash mob at Central...

It was a great day and of course as we always do, we vowed to

do it more often!

I was amazed how friendly they were in here, no snobbery at all.
The windows are really great to see.

Absolutely worth seeing. No waiting, no crowds.

I'm thinking 'oh no what have we done'

Truthfully the tree was a disappointment.

We are searching Youtube to see if this features Bossy in the front row.

Vintage Christmas Paper Designs

I just took these photos before I cut up these beauties.

I love the vintage papers which are the first lot.

The second lot are not strictly vintage but are vintage in style.

You can sometimes find these style at shops like, Go Lo, The Reject Shop and other of those

types of stores.

Those above this label are pre bar code papers, possibly 1960s early 70s.

I'm not a real fan of the colourways of the second lot, but I do like the layouts and the images.

A love affair with fabric.

When I buy a fabric collection I love to imagine

the person by looking at the fabrics they chose to buy.

These fabrics all came from the same lady and she

obviously loved colour, stripes and bold retro patterns.

All the greens, browns and oranges so popular in the 1970s.

What was she like?? Well....

I might find out ...... I also was given

a tied up bundle of love letters to her, written in 1945.

They must have been special to hang onto all this time.

Do you think I should read them?

My life has been full of bugs these last few days.

It's annoying and frustrating.

Yesterday was a complete disaster, apart from packing orders there was nothing done

because of computer glitches and bugs.

Some days you just have to give up and move onto other things.

Which I did. (see future post)

But today I got up early so I could beat them and managed to

get these gorgeous fabrics onto the website.

Nothing is resolved but at least it does not affect how you access and use the website.

It's only back end problems with sorting and moving things around.
