Vintage Lingerie Dressing Gowns of the past.. Are these not the epitome of OLD HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR OR WHAT!?! Why don't women of today still dress this way? I mean, come on, this no way compares or competes with the trash of what today's lingerie is offered from places like V.Secret. Occasionally you can pop into a Frederick's of Hollywood and find your self a marabou peignoir, but not in glorious rayon satin or true chiffon nylon. Most are created in a polyester chiffon or sickly poly satin. ICK. I was born in the wrong era. *sigh*

This is why I sell vintage lingerie, to keep the passion alive of truly glamorous clothing.

Olga Nightgowns and Vintage Lingerie by Sweet Cherry Vintage

The Olga brand was started by Olga Erteszek, a war refugee from Poland, who came to the U.S. with her husband in 1939. With only $10 in her pocket and the skills she had learned from her corsetiere mother, Olga began a business making lace garter belts on her kitchen table with a rented sewing machine.

Since then Olga has grown to become one of the leading intimate apparel brands in North America. Known for superior design and garments that flatter all figure types, Olga has strived to maintain the personalized touch of its founder in each garment.Olga Erteszek along with her husband Jan (1913–1986), a lawyer, came to the United States in 1941. Fleeing Poland and the invading Nazi army, the young couple left their family and most possessions. After emigrating to Russia and then Japan, they both eventually secured a visa and landed in California.

As the daughter of a corsetiere, Olga worked in a sweatshop making girdles and brassieres, and Jan found work in sales. One day she spotted a woman on a trolley with hosiery rolled to her knees. She said to Jan that it was a shame that women didn't have at least some bit of finery to hold up their stockings, something to make them feel feminine no matter how severe the sacrifices or how limited their funds were during the war effort. Jan encouraged her to create something herself to facilitate the woman, so with a $5.00 sewing machine rental and $5.00 of material, she got started.

Olga sewed a dozen or so lace-trimmed garter belts that Jan sold to the foundations buyer at an elite department store. And this started an industry that blossomed to employ 2,000 women. Enduring from the 1940s to today, Olga is known as America’s leading maker of fashionable lingerie, sleepwear and loungewear. At one time, Olga directed a team of 17 designers who were dedicated to change the look of women’s confining “unspeakables” to fashion pieces that shaped the bust, smoothed the tummy and enticed the gentlemen. Jan found his calling as the head marketing and sales director. It was Jan who insisted that Olga herself appear in the advertising under the tag line, “Behind every Olga there really is an Olga”.

Holding the woman's record for patents at 28, Olga brought women many pleasing, comfortable and fashionable undergarments. In addition to winning many industry awards, Olga and her husband were honored for their community and humanitarian work. In 1985, they received the California Industrialist of the Year Award for lifetime achievement. Olga was one of the first businesses to initiate profit sharing for employees, and in 1967 it became a publicly owned corporation valued at $67 million. In 1984, Olga was ranked as a Fortune 500 company and one of the best 100 companies to work for in America.

Not Too Much, Says Lucie Ann a rare LOOK into the infamous Lucie Ann of Lucie Ann Claire Sandra, Beverly Hills.

Upon my extensive search of the infamous Lucie Ann Onderwyzer, famous designer for Lucie Ann, Lucie Ann for Claire Sandra Beverly Hills.

Lucie Onderwyzer, 75, founder of Lucie Ann Lingerie of Beverly Hills, a firm she launched in 1949 that introduced exotic colors to what was then the bland sleep wear that American women wore. With her partner, Anne Briggs, Mrs. Onderwyzer expanded her business to include lounge wear, and her clothes came to be sold at major stores across the country. She sadly passed away from complications of a stroke in 1988 in Los Angeles.

I have come across some interesting articles, this is from an early 1960's magazine or newspaper article, typed out by me word for word from an interview:

Lucie Ann's steady customers think nothing...well, not much anyway...of paying $650 for a nylon peignoir or $1,250 for a lounging costume.

"My prices begin where competitive prices end," says Lucie Ann comfortably.

A dozen years ago, in California, Belgian born Lucie Ann found herself a widow with two children to support. She had no business experience, but every soul-searching session on what to do came back to the same thing: designing and selling lingerie.
Lucie Ann, a Dresden-like graying blonde with wide brown eyes and a youthful face, explains she always had a felling for intimate apparel...the glamorous kind she had never found in shops while traveling around the world with her husband, a diamond merchant.

Lucie Ann started without a workroom, "I didn't have the nerve to have a place." She designed and draped, then carted the project to a woman who did all the seams, and on to another who appliqued.

The finished product she put in a pretty quilted box tied with a big fresh ribbon ("I like things very dainty and right") and visited movie studios. Producers' wives recommended her to friends, and Lucie Ann was on her way to the 135-employee factory in Beverly Hills and the three-quarter-million-dollar annual business she has today.

"My lack of knowledge made it cost more," she recalls. "I would never do it again, now that I know what it entails."

Later Lucie Ann decided so many people were imitating her she went about copying herself in a budget line, named the Claire Sandra collection after her 14 year old daughter. Her son is 18.

Lucie Ann ever used her own surname, Onderwyzer, because it sounds too much like underwear, a word she detests.

She feels strongly that women should choose intimate apparel with the same care as cocktail and evening wear.

"Certainly a woman's married life should be as important to her as her social life. The woman who says 'What would I do with it?' about a glamorous gown and roe probably means that her husband leaves early in the morning and at night is too tired to notice her.

"Maybe he'd wake up if she wears a lovely gown," suggest Lucie Ann with a glint in her eye. "Maybe she'd win him all over again."

Vintage Inspired Lingerie..Dita Von Teese for Target

Who better to design a lingerie collection than a person who wears lingerie for a living? Diminutive vintage pin-up retro era and burlesque star Dita Von Teese has fashioned and designed a "vintage inspired" line of lingerie for Target. But wait, don't get too excited you Yankee American gals...this is for Target Australia. Wahhhhhhhh...

I totally can appreciate this being Target and not Victoria's Secret, Ms. Von Teese's line will be priced very reasonably for the average Joe..or Josephine. Her line will include corsets, girdles, garter belts and leopard print galore!

The burlesque dancer's vintage inspired intimates collection won't be available outside of Australia...Us Yankee's up here in North American and fellow Eurpoean shoppers will have to contend with eBay..

Definitely NOT Mad Men Vintage Style Lingerie

Can't blame a gal for trying. Janie Bryant, the costume designer for the hit TV series Mad Men has collaborated with Maidenform as a wardrobe expert to help educate women by offering flattering fit and styling tips.Which is fine! Wonderful! However, I was truly disappointed that the intimates created were nothing like the vintage 1960's style we all love and adore.

Banana Republic, Kate Spade and Very.co.uk have all launched Mad Men-inspired ranges, and the original costumes from the series were sold on eBay... However, Maidenform are the first to encourage us to buy Sixties-style flattering lingerie.

Janie Bryant, Mad Men's costume designer, has collaborated with Maidenform. This is the company's latest range, the Pretty Collection. Me? Personally? Looks like Victoria's Secret all over again. Not a hint of vintage inspiration.

During the second season of Mad Men, there was an episode that included a Maidenform advertising campaign. Bryant said, "I was inspired to look at some of Maidenform's iconic ads for my book, The Fashion File. 'Upon our initial meeting, we had shared passions in everything intimate apparel and the rest is history." Maidenform CEO Maurice Reznik added: 'Enlisting the expertise of Ms. Bryant gives our consumers professional advice from the world of celebrity wardrobing and stresses the importance of the role intimate apparel plays in the foundation of fashion.

The company's latest range, The Pretty Shapewear Collection, blends Sixties comfort and glamour. It also pairs expensive-looking fabrics such as eye lash lace with Maidenform's trademark built in firm control. Betty and Peggy would definitely approve. I certainly do not.

The Roaring Twenties were about to give way to the worst economic depression ever, when Juel Park, just twenty two, decided it would be the perfect time to start her couture lingerie design career. It was with this wealth of enthusiasm and very little else that Juel Park Lingerie, Inc. officially opened its doors for business.

During the roaring 20′s, a 22 year old woman named Juel Park decided to leave her secretarial job behind her and head into the luxurious land of lingerie. Since 1929, Juel Park of Beverly Hills has created some of the most breathtaking couture lingerie. With a wisp of imported sheerness, tiny hand-made stitches, and tremendous ingenuity, Park whipped up dreamy creations that would make any woman drool! Each piece was custom made, sometimes personalized with the clients initials embroidered onto it.

Let’s take a look at how lingerie changed in Old Hollywood! Juel Park models showing off the change from long negligee’s to short nighties!

Juel Park became one of the worlds most outstanding designers of fine haute couture lingerie. Marilyn Monroe, Joan Crawford, Barbara Streisand, Marlene Dietrich, Elizabeth Taylor, Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth, Lucille Ball, Katherine Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Mae West, Grace Kelly, Zsa Zsa Gabor and Lauren Bacall, high society and royalty worldwide have lounged in Juel Park Lingerie.

In 1948, the Los Angeles Times wrote an article on Lana Turner’s marriage to Bob Topping, mentioning that she spent at least $5,000 at Juel Park for her wedding lingerie. This was the place to shop and be seen!

Vintage Lingerie WHAT A TRIUMPH! European owned Triumph Lingerie Celebrates 125 Years !!!

1886, The very first bra invented by Triumph was called the Bust Improver.

More then a century ago in 1886 Triumph's founders launched their corsetry business from a barn in Heubach (Württemberg-Germany) in 1886, they had start-up funds of 2000 gold marks and employed 6 staff. As a comparison, the company today has annual sales exceeding 2.2 billion Swiss Franks and employs over 36,500 staff all over the world. At the same time as Paris couturier Charles Frederic Worth was the first man to "enhance" the female form with padding, the two founders of Triumph were setting up their operations in a barn.

In 1894 their sharp business acumen brought them an important breakthrough - an order for corsetry from strait-laced England. Leading into the 1900's leading into the century, constricting whalebone undergarments underwent a certain degree of relaxation; corsets moved downwards, so to speak, to become girdles. Women, and European women in particular, were positively electrified by the influence of new fashions such as the tango, and began to dress and deport themselves in ways that brought out their personalities. As Triumph flourished, new generations brought youthful energy into the business, and in 1902 Triumph was a registered trademark.

In the 1930s, Triumph advanced to the status of Europe's largest corsetry manufacturer - an excellent reason to celebrate the company's 50th birthday in 1936. After almost 50 years of near-uninterrupted growth, checked only by the First World War, 1933 saw the foundations laid for the company's later international expansion when the company opened its first international branch in Zurzach, Switzerland. Today, the same premises house the corporate financial headquarters and other central corporate departments.

By the 1950's Triumph had become 'Triumph International' to reflect it's worldwide standing and employed 6000 staff. They expanded rapidly into countries such as Britain, Italy, Belgium and Norway. With this growth into new countries, Triumph became established as Europe's top lingerie manufacturer. Then in the 1960's, with the step into Hong Kong, the expansion into the Asian market began. In the same year, the Triumph workforce had grown to 14,000. Soon the company had independent subsidiaries for swimwear, day-wear and nightwear and new technological developments such as molding and high frequency welding, used instead of traditional stitching, were revolutionizing looks and possibilities for Triumph designers.

Fast forward 125 years, and much has changed. This month, Triumph International is to commemorate their long history tailoring the female form with a limited edition collection of vintage-inspired corsets, bras and knickers that celebrate the nipped-in waists and high-waisted styling of the past. But while the styling is all vintage, the comfort is as contemporary as it comes.

The collection offers pieces that marry both the best-loved heritage styles for which Triumph is famed, coupled with the cutting edge fabrics and fit technology that makes today's lingerie infinitely more comfortable than the whalebone garments of old.

Lingerie..Pushing The Limit? You decide. Lake And Stars Lingerie Campaign

Below are The Lake And Stars' latest campaign images, featuring a mother and her 19-year-old daughter embracing in revealing lingerie.

Sexy? Beautiful? Extremely awkward? I just can't decide.

Then again, that's exactly what Nikki Dekker and Maayan Zilberman, co-owners of the New York-based lingerie label, are aiming for. They have everyone talking about it and have you reading about it, looking at it, and possibly walking into their new store because of it.

"A lot of the themes that we're dealing with are about psychology between women as they're growing up and dealing with family politics or women in the workplace," Zilberman told The Huffington Post (where this article came from). "We always poke fun at these ideas that people take really seriously, but we're trying to make it so that people can talk about it and have a sense of humor about it."

The mother and daughter pictured in the campaign are not models by trade, Zilberman said. They are just her next-door neighbors in Brooklyn, everyday women, who seem to have an interesting relationship. "They're always so loving and tender towards each other," Zilberman said.

"That's what really drives the collection and what drives the photos: these women who are experiencing something that we're not necessarily experiencing. I wanted to present portraits of them so that people would see the chemistry that they have. I think it's really rare, you don't see a lot of that."

I certainly don't see mother-daughter duos embracing in sheer underthings. Scantily clad women is nothing new in fashion advertisements, but there is something extremely unconventional about the way The Lake And Stars had the mother-daughter pair pose so provocatively.

"There's no shock value here. We're not trying to make people feel uncomfortable in order to provoke dialogue," Zilberman said. "We're just trying to confront some of these issues that I think people aren't really talking about so much." Zilberman, who is in her early 30s, said that the goal of the campaign is to spark discussion about how younger generations of women relate to older generations of women, and vice versa.

"So for our customer, for our viewer to see these photographs, you're confronted with this feeling of 'who's the sexy one?' Because there's always someone who's sexier and there's always some kind of competition going on; there's always a tenderness going on; there's always a tension," she said.

"We're opening it up to think about: Is it OK for a mother and daughter to feel tender toward each other? And what happens when they're in sexy clothing?" Taking a look at some of The Lake And Stars' latest campaign images below, have they gone too far? Or is this a creative way to start an important conversation?

Lucie Ann~Claire Sandra IS Hollywood Glam! Have you ever come across something that makes you just faint at heart. I mean, literally. Well, happened to me yesterday, in my inventory, I had tucked away this little number. AN ORIGINAL LUCIE ANN for CLAIRE SANDRA WITH TAGS.

Lucie Ann Vintage Nightgowns are among the most glamorous and desirable vintage nightgowns. Lucie Ann Lingerie was founded by Lucie Onderwyzer in 1949. Located in Beverly Hills, CA, her glamorous nightgowns and lingerie were worn by Hollywood's glamorous stars such as Elizabeth Taylor. She designed all of the peignoir sets worn by Eva Gabor on the 1960's series Green Acres.

Lucie Ann designs are known for bold color and glamorous details, such a marabou trim, pompoms and rhinestones. They were sold at the upscale and exclusive Beverly Hills boutique, Claire Sandra of Beverly Hills.

After Lucie Onderwyzer passed away in 1988 (at the age of 75), Lucie Ann Lingerie was sold to Deena Lingerie Company. Deena Lingerie began producing the "Lucie Ann II" line in 1990. In 1996, Deena Lingerie, along with the Lucie Ann line was sold to Lady Ester Lingerie Company. Lady Ester is still manufacturing lingerie, including the Lucie Ann line, along with other well known names such as Val Mode, Perfectform and Wondermaid. Lucie Ann II Fashion sleepwear, leisure and loungewear is sold today in major chain stores, department and specialty stores.

Secret Behind Victoria's Secret. History Of Victoria's Secret
Victoria's Secret certainly has a wonderful history, it all started when a graduate student from Stanford Graduate School Of Business felt rather embarrassed when it came to purchasing beautiful lingerie from a department store. His name was Roy Raymond who was located in San Francisco, California. In 1977 Roy decided to open his first store at Stanford Shopping Center , thus Victoria's Secret was born. Soon to follow was a mail-order catalog and three other Victoria's Secret stores.

The stores were created to make a man comfortable when purchasing women lingerie, the decor of the stores were Victorian designed with wood panel walls and friendly staff. Instead of bras and panties being hung on a sterile rack, they were paired together in all sizes and mounted on frames. The stores were very detailed and were quite inviting when a gentleman came to purchase lingerie.

Quite possibly, the original Victoria's Secret first store in Palo Alto. But not 100% positive.

After 5 years of operation Roy Raymond sold Victoria's Secret to The Limited, unfortunately his next business adventure ended in bankruptcy and he plummeted to his death off of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

Through the 1980's The Limited kept the image intact while expanding to offer an array of merchandise including shoes, perfumes and evening wear with its mail-catalog that was sent out eight times annually. During the 1990's Victoria's Secret had became the largest American lingerie retailer making over a billion dollars.

My Plastic Panties! VINTAGE LINGERIE Collection

My most recent addition is this burlesque inspired fringed red and black lacy panty!

WHAT'S IN YOUR PANTIES? I keep receipts and various papers in mine. *GIGGLES* ...Let me explain. I have an obsession. I started collecting these little plastic wall hangings made of plastic/vinyl. They are used to hold items such as letters, hand towels, anything! I am on the lookout for more of these fabulous little creations. My favorite is the pink and black lace CORSET with GARTERS. I have a yellow FRINGED *panty* and a teal LACY *panty* so far.

I of course am on the lookout for more of these little delights. Please don't be shy about telling me if you have any to offer because a girl just cannot have too many panties ya know....*smiles*

Fashioned and Created by Movie Star lingerie. The color is a dazzling orchid, in a lilac shade, which is a mix of pink and lavender. Just stunning. Material is 2 layer nylon, of sheer nylon chiffon over silky soft Movie Star nylon.

Bringing you yet another classic lingerie label by Movie Star. Just as the name itself suggests, the brand has a legacy of Hollywood glamor and the creations are just as real as it gets!

The company that became Movie Star was first started as the Industrial Undergarment Corp in 1935 in New York City's Garment District. With a name like that we can only imagine the austere styles they originally manufactured. In the early 1940s the company revamped their image and began producing stylish sweater girl bras and elegant slips. They changed their name to Stardust Lingerie and incorporated the Movie Star label into their intimates. In 2006 Frederick's of Hollywood merged with Movie Star and the headquarters was moved to New York. In 2008 the company changed its name to Frederick's of Hollywood Group Inc. Lingerie for Little Girls. Disturbing Fashion 'Faux Pas' For Sure.

Now, a new faux pas: a French lingerie line for kids that features girls prancing around in bras on its website. When it comes to the "sexualization" of LITTLE girls, France keeps stirring the pot. The website for Jours Après Lunes shows 10-yr-old girls in make-up and with voluminous up-dos wearing panties, bras, camisoles and T-shirts from the range, not to mention a sheer pair of panties that I personally would wear to turn on my husband. Fashion media, bloggers and parent groups have expressed concern over the undergarments, and I agree.

What's disturbing about this website is not just the fact that it's lingerie for people who probably shouldn't be old enough to even know what lingerie is, but the photographs on their website.

The French designer of this new range of 'lingerie', however this designer, calls it 'loungerie' for toddlers to preteens, says she is "shocked at the negative reaction to her promotional campaign." Gee..... I wonder why.

On the website, the French company offers undergarments for three different age groups: babies, children, and pre-teens. Don't worry, the baby section solely features onesies, but the other sections showcase children in delicate two-piece lingerie sets that are far from Frederick's of Hollywood, but bordering on Victoria's Secret.

In these sections, you will find panties, bras and camisole sets that are without a question, very pretty adorned with bows, lace, and frills, are downright inappropriate for children of all ages.

In the pre-teen section, a model is reading on a couch wearing sunglasses in her underwear, and in another photo, the same teen is wearing only a bra and panties while hugging a teddy bear. Downright disturbing if you ask me.

Since the era when Kate Moss catapulted to international fame as a topless teen for Calvin Klein, the world is becoming more accustomed to young sexual models. However, critics claim that Jours Après Lunes is treading on dangerously sexual ground, and I have to agree.

Why a toddler would need a top designed like a bra, unless she's in a swimming pool, I have no idea. But the French designer is defending her risqué line. In a letter to Fashionista, Sophie Morin wrote: “All I wanted to do was offer underwear that is soft and pleasant to wear,” adding that the materials “have no vulgar connotation: they are totally opaque, nothing transparent. The style is inspired by children's fashion, with spots, bows, etc.” Morin also said she is “extremely surprised by the current uproar.”

I get that France has different standards of what is culturally acceptable. Like running into a topless Heidi Klum on a beach over there is perfectly normal, and should be! HOWEVER, there are universal/standard ethics of what is inappropriate and unacceptable for our children. This seems to breach that understanding.
