5 Style Icons Rocking the Flapper Dress

I have been a fan of the flapper dress for as long as I can remember. I am first to admit that this style is not for everyone. In fact, in my own opinion, only those who are relatively skinny can pull this off. I am talking about the traditional cut, without the little modifications, designers have adopted to make it more figure friendly.

The problem with the flapper look, per se, is it usually hangs on one's frame thus make those with voluptuous form look like a tent house. This look became a sort of liberation for women of the 1920's who until then had to suffer the use of corset. The flapper image banks on the concept of androgeny when it comes to female shape. This is the decade when hourglass figure became outdated while the boyish look had became popular among women.

This is not a typical flapper dress, as this garment was cinch slightly on the waist, giving her an hourglass sillhouete
In the 1920's, women actually wear undergarments to flatten one's breast to conform the the flapper style.

This is a traditional flapper dress. The only things lacking here are the short bob and pearls. This one is truly vintage inspired.

Slightly modified neckline, but staying true to the flapper image complete with the crystal embelleshments.

This is what's good with fashion, one can make changes to suit one's need. Katy Perry embracing the concept of a flapper- fun, fierce and wild! Here dress though was totally off the mark, nobody could accuse this one of a boy figure with those killer curves. So nice try Katy Perry, but your version is off the mark.

1. 1920's- The Flapper Era

2. 1930's- This decade is a milestone for women. Women now lead a busier lives, and tend to go for simpler dresses during the day but elegant number for evening gowns. However, the most influential film of all this time was GONE WITH THE WIND. Scarlett O'Hara's barbecue dress had inspired a lot of imitations worldwide.

3. 1940's - Style for garments in 1940's was greatly affected by the ongoing war. It was simpler in design since most things are rationed- clothing needs notwithstanding. Functionality versus Style.

4. 1950's- Fashion revival era, where-in flowy dresses were popularized by Christian Dior.

5. 1960's- There were many trends at this decade. There were pleated or pencil skirts in the earlier years, to miniskirts later on the decade.
