Painted in Old White and then distressed using a power sander.

I removed the floral picture for a couple of shots so you could see the details of the back.  Take note of all the compartments in the drawer too!I opted to sand and re-stain the drawer for contrast then added new crystal knobs.  The crystal knobs that were on it were cracked.

I just picked up this beautiful vintage crystal cherub lamp.  LOVE it…and it’s in perfect condition!  AMAZING!

This throws a curve ball because I have to change my color scheme and I’m really disappointed, but not disappointed enough to repaint…let’s just clarify that!  Haha!  The white brick wall you see in this photo is in the kitchen.  It was suppose to be SW648 Watery that is featured in the HGTV Smart Home but I don’t think it will look good next to this color of grey (it’s too blue-ish).  So I just painted it white for now.

See what I mean?  Luckily I haven’t already purchased the paint or committed to this color in the furnishings.  So, I think I’ll be looking at some new color schemes tonight!

Here’s what the kitchen looks like now.  Kind of yucky, but it’s going to be FABULOUS!!!  The hubs spent several hours cleaning the grout on the floor a couple of days ago.  It looks SO much better!  Whew, we didn’t want to replace it!  It’s not in the budget!

The living room is completely painted but it’s hard to see with the lighting.  The walls are that same blue/grey (SW6246 North Star) and the ceiling is SW705 Pure White.  Before laying the hardwood, we’ll be removing the fan to add a medallion to the ceiling and I’m going to paint the fan.

Dave had another project to go work on today so I stayed and kept painting.  This is what he surprised me with when he returned.  He knows how to keep me motivated!  ~Paint a couple of strokes, take a drink, paint a couple of stokes, take a drink…you get the picture!!!

A great closet organizer could really come in handy.

We have so many projects going on right now that it probably seems a little crazy to be thinking about taking on another one.  However, this is exactly why we need to do it.  My husband and I always breath easier if we’re organized and right now our home and work space seems a little chaotic.  It will take us awhile to accomplish this task but it WILL get done and it WILL be great! (We have happy faces.)

OK, I confess; I painted three lamps in my living room while watching American Idol.  And can I just say; I can’t believe Angie went home.  I’ve been rooting for her entire season.  I’m not as excited for next week’s finale now!  I think it’s the piano player in me that was hoping Angie would win!  Anyway, I know we haven’t seen the last of her.  Great things are coming her way!!!

Oh, so back to the lamps ~ with all the sweet details, layering paint colors was the only way to go.  I brought out several cans of CeCe Caldwell’s Chalk Paint.

• First layer ~ Virginia Chestnut
• Second layer ~ Vintage White
• Third layer ~ Kansas Wheat

I was literally watching the paint dry in between layers.  So glad chalk paint dries quickly or it would have been a looooong night!

Once all three layers were dry, I distressed with a damp cloth to randomly exposed all the layers.  This is when the magic happens!  There is even a few spots where the mustard color came out.  I’m totally good with that.  This treatment adds so much character.  The final step was to add CeCe Caldwell’s Aging Cream mixed with a little clear wax.  It just brought the lamps to life!

These lamps will be a great addition to the master bedroom in the condo.  Now I just need to find the bedside tables for them to sit on!  The bed sits high off the floor so I need some pretty substantial tables.  Curbside pickup is just around the corner, maybe I’ll get lucky again and find something for FREE.  That would work nicely into my budget!  Haha  I’ll keep you posted!

I’m not completely moved in yet but I couldn’t wait any longer to share the news!

I really wanted to add interest to the space so I stayed up until 2:30 am making this rag curtain.  It was fun but I was tired!  The material came from the Thrift Store.  I spent a total of $11.00.

  

 I asked The Hubs to make this half wall with a shelf.  He assembled the whole thing in our driveway and then delivered to the store.  I’ll be spending a morning in the very near future down painting it!

I made these curtains yesterday.  It’s something I’ve wanted to do for such a long time.  It really warms up the space don’t you think?  The bottom section of the curtain came from Bed, Bath and Beyond at 40% off.  The window  is 10′x8′ so I purchased 95″ panels and then added 24″ of additional material to the top and them made tabs.  We had a couple of scrap wood slats out in the garage so cut them 20″ long, slid them through the tabs and then actually stapled the backs into place so they won’t ever move.  The Dave screwed them into place above the window.

Here’s a close-up of the material.  It’s so soft and pretty!

We re-arranged everything and still had a hard time fitting everything in.  See this wall?  We’ve decided it would be really fun to hang several of our wooden chairs on it. We just didn’t have the right tools with us today…maybe by the end of the week.  That will give us more floor space!We also took down the doors I was using as a photo backdrop at home.  I asked Dave to place a piece of wood across the top so the next time across a great chandelier, I’ll have a place to hang it!

I actually just used the same jute I used for our Easter “R.I.S.E.N.” bunting.  Off with the old and on with the new.

I stayed up late to clean up.  It was quite amazing really, I’ve kind of made that switch in life where I’m ready for bed early and rise up early in the morning.  But not this time…I didn’t get to bed until after 2:30 am.  It was fun though.  I don’t know where my extra energy came from!

Each bird is unique so I just have to show you a closeup of each.  Aren’t they cute?  

I have lots of left over scrapbooking supplies from days gone by which really came into play with this project.

Staying with the color scheme of our home, I used blues and greens as the primary colors.

I love this paper, a little bit vintage!

OK…I know you’re thankful I only made five, right?  Haha!

Ya know what I was just thinking?  Next weekend is Mother’s Day.  I think my mom deserves a homemade card with one of these cute little birds on it.  She lives in Spokane WA.  so I better get busy so I can get it in the mail.

Here’s a photo of my Most Fabulous Mom with me just before I married my hubs in 2005.

I kept the egg wreath on the fireplace screen ’cause it still goes right along with the theme.

The only other thing I changed was to turn my ceramic block around from the “E for egg” to the “A. for Ainger”.

Well, that’s it.  Pretty simple huh?  It’s probably a good thing I didn’t have to change much more than I did or I would have been up all night!

I pray that as you enter the new week, God fills each day with blessings that overflow!

Next stop ~ the condo for some demolition.

All the carpeting and base boards have been removed in the living room.  I threw away all the light switch plates that I could remove.  Some have become apart of the wall they’ve been painted over so many times!  I can’t wait to start painting!

All the doors and drawers were removed from the kitchen and stored in the garage.  I know I’ll be re-purposing all those babies!  Next visit will remove the tile, range and the cabinet boxes.

I am picturing signs, chalkboards and maybe even shelving out of the drawers, but that will have to wait for another day.

Master bedroom got the same treatment as the living room.  It’s a great space!

And last but not least, the sun room!  There are two different levels to the ceiling in here.  Dave removed one side to check out everything.  He’s going to run bead board across the entire ceiling and build a box/beam across the middle to hide all that electrical mess.  See all those ceiling tiles on the floor?  That was one of my jobs…to stack all of them in the garage and then vacuum the entire space.

We got a lot done in just 2 1/2 hours today!  Big changes will start happening now!

Here’s the before photo!  It’s a Thomasville, made of all wood and extremely heavy.

At the Junk In The Trunk Vintage Market last Saturday, I had another buffet done in Duck Egg Blue and highly distressed…it was a BIG hit!  So when that one sold, we offered another customer the same finish on this one awaiting it’s makeover in our garage.  She jumped at it!

This is my version of Duck Egg Blue from Behr paint at Home Depot.  I added a couple of tablespoons Plaster of Paris to 1/4 c. warm water, stirred ’til it was dissolved and then added about 1 c. of paint (My recipe for Chalk Paint).   Mixed thoroughly and brushed on two coats over the entire piece.

I looks so pretty just like this.  But wait, there’s more to come!

Out came the power sander and I went to town!!!

And here’s the results after sanding and brushing on a mixture of clear and dark wax.

All the original hardware was in perfect condition.  So glad, they are really pretty!  This buffet also has such beautiful detail and curves, I need to find more just like it!

My new client, and new friend…will have it home just in time for her son’s wedding next weekend.  How exciting is that?  Congratulation to her entire family and so happy that I could provide a beautiful new addition to her decor before the big event!

As you can see from this before photo, this cute little table was dirty and had numerous stains on it’s top.  No worries, I did a bit of sanding to make sure none of the grim would seep through the paint then I used CeCe Caldwell’s Vermont Slate Chalk Paint for the two surfaces and Vintage White for the legs.

After some distressing of the legs, I added clear wax and it was complete!

Really love the way the two-tone looks.  It’s not originally what I had planned, it just evolved during the process.

This would be so pretty in a small entryway or any corner of the house.

We are celebrating my husband’s 43rd birthday today!  He is such a blessings!  Love him with my whole heart!

I always enjoy sharing how I get beautiful results with chalk paint techniques.  Furniture Affair is always willing to let me check out paint from their Model Home Furnishing Store to let me bring to the shows.  Note to self…must bring many, many more flyers with me to the next show.  So many were interested where they could purchase CeCe Caldwell’s Chalk Paint so they could give it a try themselves.Everything sold in this photo.  I’m sure it MUST be due to my great chalk art work and little basket I found to fit in the telephone stand.  (Smiles)

Recognize this piece?  The sofa table that was given to me by my sweet neighbor, it sold too!The chandeliers were in high demand, I came home empty handed.

My good friend Bridget from Grungy Galz makes these cute chandeliers from salvage items.  She has such creative talent!

And this piece was the biggest hit of the day!  Duck Egg Blue Distressed Buffet!  Sold and have an order for another.  Luckily I have another one in stock awaiting a makeover.
I’ve never taken unfinished pieces to a show before.  But it was a BIG success!  This three piece set sold to a professional upholsterer.  I can only imagine how wonderful it’s going to look once she’s done with it!Once again, it was so nice to see all my friends (Vendors & Customers) both old and new!  And it’s always a pleasure to meet faithful followers of my blog and FB in person, thank you for coming out in the 100 degree weather and sharing your day with us!

Last week there was a stack drawers filled with utensils at an auction my husband and I attended.  While I was off visiting with friends, my husband bid on them but lost the bid. He mentioned that he didn’t want the utensils, he just wanted the old drawers.  A few minutes later, the woman that had won the bid approached him and asked if he still wanted the drawers?  She just wanted the utensils.  Of-coarse he said “YES” and she just gave them to him.  Yay!

For the little legs, my husband used left over wooden knobs, attached them to old roller skate wheels and then screwed them into the drawer.  A total salvage project.  All the handles were  painted using textured brown spray paint.

For these legs, the hubs cut down some old legs that he had been storing away just for such a project as this.  I used CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White and Vermont Slate Chalk Paint for this drawer.  You can check out all of CeCe’s paint selection online at Furniture Affair or stop by if you live in the Phoenix area!

The first two drawers, I used graphics I found from The Graphics Fairy.

I made this graphic on Publisher and then used graphite paper to transfer the image onto the drawer front.

I’m done painting for the week!  Whoohoo!!!  I’m as ready as I can be for the BIG EVENT this weekend at Junk In The Trunk Vintage Market!  I’ll be located in Booth 81 so please stop by and say “Hello”!  I’m so behind on all my project photo shoots but here’s a taste of what’s to come…

I was looking to do something fun and unique with this console.  I don’t always want everyone to see the clutter behind glass doors so I sprayed the glass with chalkboard paint and painted the inside with chalk paint.  The entire piece was painted first with CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White Chalk Paint and the second coat was done in Annie Sloan’s Paris Grey Chalk Paint.  Next, I used a mixture of clear wax and aging cream to distress and protect the finish.

Then came the real fun!  Time to create a design with chalk.

OK…free handing two exact designs side by side is a little difficult but no worries, that’s what an eraser is for right?  I love drawing and painting wheat, it’s very forgiving!

You would never know there was ever glass there!

Here’s another little before and after that will be heading to market…

I wanted to try out ASCP French Linen.  Really like the color and I was so glad I happen to have just enough of this material left over from another project to reupholster this stool.   It paint and the material match perfectly…BONUS!

Lots of frames, mirrors and chalkboards will also be loaded into the truck for the show.  My hubby has gotten quite good I must say, at crafting.  He’s such a trooper!

Hey…my weekend starts in just a few minutes!  My hubby is taking me out for lunch and then to see the new release Home Run!  I had to start my morning out with the all dreaded annual doctor’s visit but then I treated myself to latte at Starbucks afterwards, so all is good!  I couldn’t wait to get home and but the knobs on this vintage wash stand I painted yesterday.  I ran out of time last night…we were a tad bit late to our Neighborhood Bible Study Group as it was.

For this piece, I took the inspiration from Miss Mustard Seed’s nightstand she just painted for their master bedroom.  It’s beautiful in blue but I wanted to try an new color I hadn’t used before from Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint collection; Chateau Grey.  I’m completely taken by it!!!

You must see the before photo to understand what I had to work with.  As you can see, one of the knobs were broken.  YAY, that just means I don’t have to feel guilty by added a couple of glass knobs from Hobby Lobby!

I also chose to accent with Vintage White  from CeCe Caldwell’s Chalk Paint.  The top was done in CeCe’s Vermont Slate.

Something you may not know about me, I’ve always enjoyed art, specifically drawing and painting.  When I was a child, my Great-Aunt who lived in England would critic my work. She was a beautiful landscape painter and I would send her samples and then she would write back to me.  I never got the chance to meet her in person but she was very special to me.  Later, in the 80′s, I sold my paintings in a local restaurant where I filled the walls with my work.  (Gosh, I feel really old right now thinking back on this!)

I painted the original knobs and added aging wax on them as well as on the entire piece.  Leaving them in their original state would have been too dark.

I am totally in love with this piece now!  Thanks Marian for your lovely inspiration!

This little lady had yellowed over the years and while I was cleaning it, the stain was just wiping right off on to my rag.  She was looking a tad worn out.  Hmm…what could I do to fix that?

I went with my version of homemade chalk paint in a similar color to duck egg blue.  She was given a couple of coats before bringing out the power sander.  I have been using a Makita Finishing Sander and usually use 60 grit sandpaper for most projects.  The link will take you to the one I own from Home Depot however, I recommend that you don’t buy the one with the bag attachment.  It sounds like a great concept but it leaves puncture holes in the bottom of your sandpaper and they show up on your furniture pieces.  I never use the bag.

Loads of storage options with cupboards on each side plus plenty of drawer space.  I can just picture a beautiful display of desserts across the top at a family gathering!

Having a highly distressed furniture piece in your home is not for everyone but I LOVE to mix and match and I think a piece like this adds interest and character to a space.

So there you have it…she’s good as new.  All it took was a trip to the “Paint Doctor” for a tiny enhancement!  Haha!

This pretty little server was an experiment!  I wanted a different look to her and normally if the top of a piece is scratched I paint it the same color as the base or it ends up in vintage white.  Not this time!  I decided to try painting a coat of CeCe Caldwell’s Virginia Chestnut and then a coat of Vermont Slate.  I slightly distressed with a damp cloth to highlight both colors and then used aging cream to finish and protect.  I’m really loving the look!  I used a homemade chalk paint version of  Duck Egg Blue for the base and then brushed on a mixture of clear wax and aging cream.

One of the original knobs were broken so I used a couple that I had in my stash.  They looked way too dark for this piece so I painted them with the blue and then used CeCe’s Vintage White over the top, highly distressed with a damp cloth and achieved the perfect finish!

We obviously don’t have the fireplace but who needs it in Arizona right?  The ceiling fan is all that matters!  Haha!

  This complex is located directly across the street from one of six golf courses in Sun City, AZ.  What a beautiful retirement community.  I love visiting the area, you see more golf carts on the road than cars.  LOVE it!  I’m not old enough to live there yet but…someday!

Hope you enjoyed the tour.  Demoing starts soon so you’ll be able to follow along with the progress.  It will be sold as a furnished unit and I’ve already picked up a great dining room table with four chairs for just $70.00 I will be refurbishing.   I’ve only been given a $1500.00 budget for furnishings for the entire condo (the price of a sofa at Pottery Barn),  so I will be junkin big time.  I imagine everything but the sofa will be a makeover project.  How exciting is that?  Almost everything in this home will be one-of-a-kind originals by Vintage Street Designs!

Luckily the marble is removable for easier travel.  I knew I had to paint this piece in grey and white.  As much as I love the original knobs, I can also visualize this piece with crystal knobs for an even more feminine touch.  This would be gorgeous placed at the foot of a bed or used as a TV console.  There is ample storage inside as well.  Thanks sweetie for letting me bring her home!

This is another one of those treasures that are difficult to photograph since it’s so, so big and heavy.  Seriously, you should see our house right now.  There are finished furniture pieces lining every wall in every room.  I’m excited for the market but I’ll be glad to get my house back!  It’s a crazy time at the Ainger’s right now!

The marble is in such perfect condition.  Can you see why I just couldn’t resist?

This console measures in at 5′ wide, 18″deep and 21 1/2″ high.

It’s always a dream come true when ever I can stumble across a beautiful buffet.  They are in high demand with great reason.  I threw out a question earlier today on my Facebook page if I should add “French graphics” to the little side doors but the majority voted to leave it as is!  This beautiful will definitely be a feature at this month’s Vintage Market.

So many new things happening in April.  Today we got a program to help enhance my photos.  I’m not sure we’ll even get to all that until next month but I’m looking forward to all the possibilities.  If I can delete shadows and brighten pictures that seem a little dark and make them sparkle, I will be one happy little artist!

 I used ASCP Paris Grey for the base coat the CeCe Caldwell’s Vintage White over the top.  I then used a damp cloth to distress and clear wax to protect the finish.  The original knobs and hinges were in perfect condition but gold so I had my husband spray paint them with Rust-Oleum Textured Brown.  LOVE this stuff, use it all the time.

Now, lets see if I can post this without any hiccups!
