Christina + Quentin’s Brooklyn Wedding

Brooklyn is the epitome of coolness! Christina and Quentin got married at BAM, in the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s theater. They had their ceremony and reception there and and had their portraits taken in Coney Island, and hot dogs at Nathan, of course. The talented guys over at 3 Photographers shot their wedding.

The couple placed photos of themselves from when they were children and photos of their parents on a wall for the photobooth. The vintage yellow fabric just brings more energy to such fun photos!

Fresh from the oven… The fabulous Noa from Feather Love Photography just sent me these and I just couldn’t wait til tomorrow to share and you will know why when you see how fantastic this vintage retro wedding is! Their ceremony took place at the Marston House and reception was at Redwood Circle, both in San Diego.

About the bridesmaids’ gorgeous seersucker dresses…

The bridesmaid dresses are by Thread Design. I really wanted to buy off the rack, but most of the green dresses this past summer were tropical, and not really what I was looking for. The Thread dresses are on the more expensive side of things, but part of my gift to my girls was to pay for a part of thier dresses. It was absolutely worth it to me to put that in the budget. We are so grateful for our friends for supporting us through our relationship and for traveling out to Huntley, Illinois for the weekend, it was truley the least we could do. Also, when do you ever seriously wear a bridesmaid dress again, right? Well, in fact, my best friend, Leila, (the one with the short tuxedo neckline dress with the long pearls) actually wore her dress the very next weekend to the US.Open with a skinny brown leather belt. She looked amazing. I picked out the color, but let them choose the neckline and length. I also let them wear whatever shoes and jewelry they wanted, and obviously let them wear their hair however they prefered.

Celeste + Scott’s Offbeat Wedding

I had the pleasure of discovering the talented Heather Espana who was new to me via another talented photographer Ryan, from You Look Nice Today Photography. He second shot this non traditional wedding for Heather and I love how their work complements each other. Celeste’s wedding dress was a beautiful, daring floral patterned dress that set the tone for their fun wedding!

From the bride, Celeste:

The wedding was at the house where I grew up, in Carlton, Oregon, which made for a beautiful backdrop on a summer night. The flowers were done by a longtime family friend and flower genius who had also done the flowers at my parents’ wedding 35 years ago. I loved how he combined exotic and traditional flowers. The gardenia in my hair was a nod to my grandma, who wore one on her suit when she married my grandfather in the 40’s. Sweet, fun and a little offbeat could probably sum up the wedding in general.

From the beginning, Scott and I wanted a wedding that was first and foremost a good party, so we decided to keep things simple. The ceremony short and sweet with readings from The Velveteen Rabbit, Miss Manners, Mr. Rogers (no joke!), and Rilke. We had a friend get ordained online to marry us, so it was also incredibly personal and heartfelt.

We had a ton of help with decorations and set-up from my parents, my brother, sister-in-law and her parents, my uncle and his partner, and my cousins. Definitely DIY a family affair!

As a nod to Scott’s Texan roots, we served barbeque (from Russell Street BBQ in Portland) and had pie instead of cake. The pies were from Pies for Peace, which is a non-profit that donates all proceeds from its sales to MercyCorps.

Bridal: Scott and his groomsmen wore guayaberas inspired by our trip to Nicaragua a few years ago.

Brit + Daniel’s Handcrafted Wedding

You may have seen some photos from this wedding around the web, but I just had to share what the bride, Brit, sent me, along with exclusive images! Shot by Carl Zoch, a super talented photographer who is not new here at Ruffled (you might remember this colorful wedding I featured a few weeks ago).

From the bride, Brit:

Daniel and I are both designers so we both find pleasure in the details. It was always my dream to be married on the farm on which I grew up. Being a lover of contrast, it made a wonderful juxtaposition to our current life together in San Francisco. Nothing is as meaningful as something created by hand so I spent five months crafting a charming, meaningful, and perfectly lovely day.

These are some of our favorite details….

Our invitations included an RSVP/RECIPE card for the guest to send their favorite recipe to us. We are avid cooks so it so meaningful going through each recipe which often included a personal anecdote or note, something that lasts longer than the wedding festivities.

Daniel refused to see me before I walked down the aisle so we created and “interlude” for our guest complete with lemonade and lawn games so we didn’t have to think about anxious family and friends while we traipsed through the fields taking photos.

I handmade over 30 fabric flowers that showed up on various wearers during the wedding: from wrist corsages to the bride’s shoes to boutonnieres to the mother-of-the-bride’s hair.

Our wedding was very “potluck”, everyone brought what they were best at to our proverbial ‘table’, and by doing so became an integral part of our special day. I handmade dressing robes for my bridesmaids and vintage fabric aprons for all my helpers and hand packaged each handmade gift with handmade details.

Our feast was served family style and encouraged the sense of community we hoped for. It was locally sourced, cooked by friends and delicious!

Oh Heavenly Pie! We had 31 homemade pies in 9 flavors brought by 10 different people which were accompanied by hand-wrapped vanilla ice cream slices.

I never anticipated collected hundreds 250 place settings of vintage china pieces but it was so special to dine with both Daniel and my grandmothers’ and great grandmothers’ china.

Rumira + Cian’s Backyard Chic Wedding

How gorgeous is this couple? Karen Lisa sent me this wedding the other day hoping I would like and I certainly did. I just love how happy Rumira and Cian look!

Karen Lisa :The location was at a private home, and the catering was done by the owners of the home. A special accent was the vintage locket attached to her bouquet – a token from her mother’s wedding day jewelry.

Remember when I talked about renting vintage fire trucks for your wedding? Here is the perfect example that I was looking for.

Emily + David’s Vintage Engagement Sesh in the field

I am preparing the most amazing wedding features for the next few days that will make history on Ruffled. In the meantime, this beautiful engagement session from a very crafty couple should tide you over. Emily practically knitted her entire outfit (she is a garment designer) and David is a graphic designer. Just by how creative they are one can tell their photos are going to rock! Taken by the amazing Heather Espana. The photos were taken at Powell Butte Nature Park in Portland, Oregon. Love the scenery!
