While teachers and support independent companies see this as a positive change in the activity also poses many threats. Many articles discuss the advantages and disadvantages of online consultation from the perspective of students - this article will discuss the issue of a commercial standpoint lesson, or you can visit eduboard
Profit
Availability of technology for online tutoring is more favorable for the new tutor tutoring company or is not established on the market. Online tutoring requires low startup costs, tutor for market opening is much larger and offers more flexibility in planning. We see the benefits of each:

Lower barriers to entry
Although many independent guardian also has low start up costs, if you are a company mentoring and decided to take the road to go online, you can avoid many of the costs associated with the launch of a tutoring traditional society. Traditional companies often need for the office or the Board of Directors in which it takes place, local media marketing, a guide to meet potential clients, etc for online tutoring companies do not have a office other than the office, at home and certainly do not need a building to teach students. Online marketing is inexpensive and can be treated in a more direct way than traditional marketing, and talk to the customer can be made online or by phone. It has a low start-up costs easier for new businesses to start online.

Large market

Traditional tutoring company limited geography - can not be profitably serve students outside their geographical area, taking into account the transportation time and transportation. For this reason, the company has a market lesson much smaller and can penetrate new markets with the addition of new positions. Online tutoring business does not face this limitation. They can reach anyone with an Internet connection and the only real limit is the language. For this reason, many people prefer to start an online business tutoring so that they can reach a much larger market. It would be a very good strategy if your business is a very special training topic will not be enough people to support local businesses.

Tutoring companies can also hire a private tutor to a much larger area and be able to find the quality of teachers in the subjects they offer.

Flexibility
Online tutoring companies have more flexibility as they can choose to teach students in different time zones. Tutors are available only to learn that night could easily teach students of the region in which it was late in the afternoon. This makes it easier for independent teachers, depending on their orientation in their personal life or at work.

Reduction of operating costs
Operational costs of running a business online tutoring is also lower than the traditional accompaniment. Some costs are eliminated as building rent, telephone, transport and marketing. Online tutor can do everything at home, they can phone online free or low cost as Skype to communicate and it is not necessary to spend money to get to the office or clients home tutoring.

Shortage
Many of the benefits of online tutoring can be difficult for companies lesson. We see faults mentioned, one by one.

Lower barriers to entry
Low barriers to entry make online counseling attractive to a business coaching again, but this series is negative, because it is easier for new companies to enter the market and compete with them. This eventually leads to price competition and lower profit margins.

Competition from other markets and other countries
Online tutoring overcome geographic barriers is also a loss for the tutoring business. This means that instead of facing the competition tutoring business in the market soon, now is the support of teachers in other parts of the country and other countries along the head. Many online teachers from countries like India, where the cost of living is much lower. You can learn American students online and wear are always much lower than the normal rate in the United States, but it is still well above the level they would get to lead your country.

Technological limitations of the student
While most people have a personal computer at home and access to the Internet, has many students who need a guide not the technology needed to accept online tutoring. In addition to a computer, high speed internet connection is perfect, headphone and microphone are required to talk to the teacher and equipment, such as the board may be required, depending on the subject. This means that if the company you just want a guideline will be many students who fail to achieve.

Effectiveness
While online consultations can be effective, there are some issues that face-to-face and explain the concept of a sheet of paper is more effective online communication. It can also be a greater challenge for students during the online consultation, which have a negative impact on the study could maintain.

Online tutoring created opportunities and challenges for business mentoring. By understanding and evaluation of the tutoring business challenge will be better prepared to respond to them and their business strategies to adapt to the changes it brings to the industry.

Reducing and Offset Some Start-Up Costs

Open for business is a great thing. The rubber stamp vulcanizing press was patented first in 1890 by Charles Schultze in New Orleans, USA. Vulcanization is now one of the most profitable to do for rubber stamps stamps mass produced. Each batch of stamps produced by molds. This is a production method better seal to the contract by the same model used repeatedly. Make a custom stamp increase vulcanizing press requiring 'once "production model operating costs significantly.

Make a model - the model before it can do, you must be a master disc of metal or polymer master disk is necessary to develop (with photo) to make an impression in the mold. After the file each time the soil is required, increasing the cost to manufacture vulcanized stamps. Government support to create a set of tiles teacher to take the rubber mold. The temperature and pressure applied to the master disk array and curing press the government. Matrix includes a photo of the main relief plaque hardens, at its discretion.

Making rubber stamps - stamps is to create a simple process when making the model. Raw rubber stamp gum is placed in the mold and then put pressure on the piston. The hydraulic pressure, the combination of rubber and mold inside the stamp press causing the rubber mold areas, including images and text, drying and hardening takes about 10 minutes. Vulcanized rubber sheet was from the mold and cut into individual pieces to fix stamp assembly.

The vulcanizing system cost approximately $ 12 000 AUD

Advantages - Low cost of production of mass produced stamps, good ink transfer.

Disadvantages - Cost of producing master plates and molds produced a postage stamp.

Laser engraving rubber stamp

Death of the traditional material used for the vulcanization of rubber stamp quite unacceptable for the production of laser stamp dies, laser process requires a very uniform thickness and free from defects in the surface to produce an acceptable print because of the seal of the image . The harder rubber before it is exposed to the laser temperature rise.

The depth depends on the etch rate and laser power density of the rubber. For example, records 100 W recorder 50 or the rubber deeper and faster than 25W machine, which can go to get similar results. Usually must provide a high quality A4 sheets of laser engraving rubber stamps death, and adequate compressive strength and properties of the ink also.

Help etching process requires removal of dust created by continuous laser cutting measures, in fact, the leaking exhaust. As engine little or no CO2 laser engraving originally built for engraving and cutting rubber, installing and maintaining an effective dust extraction will pay dividends in the long run. Surfaces must mirrors, lenses and influence good cleaning as part of regular maintenance. Any negligence in this area without prejudice to all the problems of laser operation, such as dust and residue effects on efficiency and quality of the finished stamp die. Lasers are controlled directly from a computer, software drivers work with lasers and many graphics programs like Corel Draw.

25-watt laser is considered suitable for the seal of $ 40,000

Advantages - Production is computer controlled, custom stamps can be easily

The large investment costs, operation and maintenance is much higher than vulcanizing or polymer manufacturing processes - Disadvantages.

Liquid polymer rubber stamp

Rubber stamp polymer change from liquid to solid to make stamps interesting enough. Polymer seals with two layers of glass with precision UV light that goes through the polymer artwork reinforce negative marks. Negative output is simplified by the introduction of technology based on water negative, photographic material for film production in the past.

The first step toward polymer stamp to print photos, clip art or text on vellum paper, almost transparent film.
Images of high quality brand products you need to use a laser printer, bubble jet printer ink is transparent when the ultraviolet light emitted if it is not. Easy washing water based negative after a few minutes due to UV exposure stamp machine.

Polymer with the bag is difficult to replace the old method of using foam strips to create a dam and pouring of rubber stamp polymers, the bag also examine the problems of aging to remove air bubbles from the polymer.

The negative image of the cover artwork and the polymer sandwiched between two layers of glass from 2 to 3 mm, the machine is exposed for several minutes. When you have completed the disclosure process is simple to cut open the bag, and take the excess unexposed polymer before returning the stamp die back in the machine 10 minutes to dry. When cured can be cut seals. Polymer bags are available in various sizes up to A4.

The building is about 30 minutes polymer seal.

Cost of polymer stamp making machines range from AUD $ 3.500 per unit of Australia seals are specifically designed for high-end computer-controlled units in the tables USD $ 15,000.

Advantages - lower investment, polymers make almost clear stamps are perfect for scrapbooking and card making. Relief stamp can control exposure.

Disadvantages - Early polymers did not accept inks and polymers available today, new technology caused initial resistance to polymer stamps.

Summary

The leading manufacturers of stamps combination of the above devices. It can be unmounted rubber stamp dies produced by this production one of the cut and date stamp to simple hand stamps or ink. Unlike the gold index or housing market or the stock, economic conditions do not affect such collectibles. As far collecting stamps is concerned, the great part is that there are minimal rules, as per the National Postal Museum. However, the stamps which need to be collected and those which are necessary for the preservation of collections must be learnt by potential collectors, if they will be collecting stamps as an investment.

To acquire an immense return on investment, familiarizing themselves with the types of stamps that should be collected is necessary for potential collectors. A scale that ranges from poor to superb and centering, is used to determine the value of stamps that is based on condition, as explained by the Smithsonian Postal Museum. Centering is another criterion that also concludes the value of a stamp. The stamp image's position with the outer edges is inspected when checking the centering of a stamp. Stamp with 'poor ratings' should be avoided by those who are collecting them as an investment, while only the stamps belonging within the 'fine' to 'superb' categories are worth collecting.

A complete stamp kit that includes a detector dish, magnifying glasses, tongs, watermark detector fluid and any extra tools needed to identify and handle stamps must be procured. Additionally, not only should collectors be knowledgeable on how to soak stamps but should also procure a soaking kit, if they ever might need to save stamps from mailed envelops. When it comes to lifting a stamp from an envelope intact, they should be soaked in a bowl of cool water for about fifteen to twenty minutes. Often it might take a lot more time since certain stamps do not soak well and at times to prevent discoloration, some of them even need to be soaked with a different approach.

In regards to identifying rare and valuable stamps, apart from reference books and collecting periodicals, additionally the Standard Postage Stamp Catalogue should also be used. Limited-edition stamps are quite worthwhile if identified, while other valuable ones also include those that commemorate distinguished people and topics of today.

Those in search of rare stamps to purchase should be visiting local stamp dealers. Rare stamps can also be found at estate sales or online. Checking the membership lists of the American Philatelic Society, the Internet Stamp Dealer Association, or any other national stamp dealer associations is an ideal option for finding a reputable dealer, for those who decide to purchase stamps from them. To keep stamps clean and organized so they can be quickly identified, they should be placed in a special collector's display book. A higher resale value is earned by well-organized stamp collections. While collectors of great art never consider their purchases an investment, but it cannot be denied that a good stamp collection is indeed a valuable investment.

get sexual satisfaction

This articles describes what the bread to your mouth you can get sexual satisfaction. Generally speaking, paintings that are free of damage will attract higher sums than ones that look faded or have dents or scratches.

However, you should remember that the value of your art could fluctuate depending on current market trends. So if, for whatever reason, 17th century Italian Renaissance items are currently enjoying a surge in demand, it could be a good time to borrow against them in order to get the maximum amount possible.

It may also be worth your while to browse price guides and auction house records to get an idea of how much similar pieces are worth and the sums of money people have been able to borrow through them.

With a little time and effort, you can get a very good idea of just how the value of your art and the size of loan that you can expect to be offered.

Accessing the value of your pieces should not be too difficult a task and by doing so you can be confident that the sum pawnbrokers quote you is fair.

Best Investment Strategy For 2012 and Beyond

The best investment strategy for 2012 and beyond will differ from the popular investment strategy offered by most investment advisers and financial planners today. The investment landscape has changed. Here's a strategy for making the best of it.

Up until recent times you could stay out of serious trouble by simply allocating about half of your investment assets to stocks and the other half to bonds. That's the traditional investment strategy often recommended for average investors, and most people deal with it by putting their money in stock funds and bond funds. Stock funds are the growth half of the equation and the risky part of the strategy. Bond funds are considered the relatively safe investment designed to pay higher interest income. Over the years losses in one fund type were usually offset by good returns in the other.

Welcome to the year 2012, where bonds and bond funds will likely not be such a safe investment. Stock funds are never safe and 2012 will be no exception to the rule. Asset allocation will be only half of the story going forward. Selecting the right funds within each category will be the other key to success. Let's look at your best investment strategy in both fund categories, and the reason why certain funds will be your best choices.

Two things stand out about the so-called recovery the USA has supposedly experienced over the past few years. First, the economy did not recover as it has in the past after a recession - 9% of the working force is out of work. This makes for a weak economy and puts pressure on the stock market and stock funds. That's why you'll need to be careful about which stock funds you include in your investment portfolio.

Second, interest rates have been driven down to historically low levels to stimulate the economy in general and the pathetic housing market. Even with a 4% mortgage rate average folks can not qualify for a mortgage or afford to buy a house. Today's ridiculously low interest rates mean savers can not earn a respectable interest income in truly safe investments. It also means that bond funds could be a trap in 2012 for people who don't really understand bonds and bond funds. Let's look at the best bond fund strategy first.

Even the best bond funds of the past few years could be big losers in 2012... if they hold long term bonds in their investment portfolios. When interest rates turn around and go back up the bonds they hold will lose significant value because new bonds will become available that pay more attractive (higher) interest income. Your best investment strategy for bond funds is to own funds that hold corporate bonds that mature in about 5 years to 7 years. CORPORATE BOND FUNDS pay more interest income than similar funds that invest primarily in government bonds. Funds that hold bonds maturing in 5 to 7 years (intermediate term bond funds) will be much less affected by rising interest rates than long term funds holding bonds that mature in 20 years or more. That's a fact, and that's how bonds work.

Your best investment strategy for stock funds will be to go with GROWTH AND INCOME funds that invest in high quality companies with a history of paying 2% or more per year in dividend income. If the stock market gets truly ugly in 2012 and beyond these funds will be your best bet to sidestep huge losses. In a bad stock market funds that pay little or nothing in dividends are usually the big losers.

Sometimes it pays to be aggressive and take on more risk. The year 2012 looks like a time to get more conservative and live to be a risk taker another day. Most investors need to hold stock funds and bond funds as well as truly safe investments like bank CDs. Your best investment strategy for 2012: allocate your investment assets with 40% going to INTERMEDIATE TERM CORPORATE BOND FUNDS and the same going to high quality GROWTH AND INCOME STOCK FUNDS paying 2% or more in dividend income. The other 20% of your investment portfolio goes to safe investments like bank CDs.

2 Low Risk Investing Strategies That Generate 20% or More Per Month

Here are two strategies that will generate low risk residual income with minimal effort.

1. Network Marketing

This is basically where you get paid a commission to recommend a company's product(s) to the everyday consumer. In everyday network marketing you get paid whenever a sale is made, but let's take this a step further. Imagine network marketing companies that do not only pay for a one time sale, but pay recurring commissions? By this I am referring to companies that pay commissions on memberships.

If you get involved with network marketing, I recommend only looking for companies that pay recurring fees on memberships or something similar. Here is an example: let's say Joe's gym has a rewards program to encourage membership referrals. Monthly membership dues at Joe's gym are $60 per month. For every person you can refer that signs up for a membership, Joe will split the membership fees with you and pay you $20. Not only will Joe pay you $20 when your friend signs up, Joe will continue to pay you $20 every time your friend pays their $60 each month.

If you can find ten friends that want to be in better health, you will have added $2,000 per month to your income stream. Do you know 10 or twenty people that would be interested in going to the gym? Or buying a book? Or taking a trip somewhere? This is network marketing in a nutshell. You find a product that you personally like and use, you tell your friends (or strangers if you're brave enough) about it, and you get paid a commission every time your friend uses the product.

Before you choose a network marketing company, make sure you do some research on the company and understand their business plan and payout structure. The big downside to this is getting wrapped up with a pyramid scheme company. True network marketing is NOT a pyramid scheme strategy. Think about 5 things you really enjoy, then find network marketing companies that offer "recurring" commissions for you to tell people about their products. It's that simple.

2. Selling options

Statistics show that 80% of options sellers make money while 80% of options buyers lose money. Being an options buyer is a VERY lucrative way to make triple digit gains (200%-300%) in a matter of hours or even minutes. I have experienced triple digit returns as an options buyer firsthand. However, I think greed, leverage and inexperience cause a lot of options buyers to lose money. As you approach retirement age, I think it is better to go with low risk options trading strategies that are stacked in your favor. With an 80% chance of success, I think being an options seller is a better investment choice in the long run. There are many people that use money received from selling options as their primary source of income. With a few mouse clicks you can be on your way to making 20% or more per month.

Stocks can only move in three basic directions, they can go up, down, or stay flat. As an options seller you can still guarantee profits if the stock moves in two out of the three directions. Profiting in the third direction will be determined by the strike price that you choose for your option. To be safe I sell options two strike prices below the current stock price for a bullish strategy, and two prices above for a bearish strategy. You receive less money, but your risk goes down... A LOT. As an options buyer you will only profit if the stock moves in one direction and by a significant amount.

If you don't have options investing as a part of your retirement strategy, get started on this now!

New Carbon Credit Program Can Benefit Infrastructures in Developing Countries

The United Nations recently achieved a new milestone in its innovative environmental policy by approving a New Delhi metro system for carbon credit issuance. The metro in the capital of India was first launched in 2002. According to the UN, during its nine-year run, it has contributed to the annual reduction of 630,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions in the city with 14 million residents.

The passenger rail system, which runs partly underground and party on elevated tracks, is one of the most successful public transportation projects carried out by the Indian government to date. It is estimated that, thanks to the metro, about 90,000 carbon-emitting vehicle trips are kept off the roads.

The rail system is able to achieve its emission reductions by employing an innovative regenerative braking technology, which cuts energy use by almost 30 per cent. Over the next seven years, the new UN carbon credit program will earn $9.5 million for the New Delhi metro. The initiative is part of the UN goal to encourage developing countries to invest funds in transportation networks, which help reduce greenhouse gas emission.

"No other Metro in the world could get the carbon credit because of the very stringent requirement to provide conclusive documentary proof of reduction in emissions," according to the official statement issued by the UN. The international organisation further claims that each passenger, who, instead of jumping into their car or on the bus, chooses to hop on the metro, can help save about 100gm of carbon dioxide for every trip of 10km.

In addition to being environmentally friendly, subways have been the most commuter-friendly means for public transportation in metropolitan cities for years. In Tokyo, for example, more than 3.1 billion people use the metro system each year. In New York City, that number is over 1.6 billion, and in London, 1.1 billion take advantage of the convenient tube network annually. The more the passengers, who opt for the metro, the higher the amount of GHG emissions that are being prevented from entering into the atmosphere.

Typically running underground, metros are a time-saving alternative to buses and on-road rail cars, which, just like regular vehicles, often fall victims of grueling morning and after-work traffic. Underground rail systems, on the other hand, run independent of traffic jams caused by long waits at traffic lights and, in some cases, car accidents. Being underground, their operation is also relatively unaffected by severe weather conditions such as snowstorms and heavy rains, which can seriously impair above-ground traffic.

Metro systems are probably the most expensive transportation systems to build and maintain. As a result, many developing countries are falling behind in establishing solid underground rail infrastructure. According to Dr. Jean-Paul Rodrigue, professor at the Department of Economics and Geography at Hofstra University, only about 80 large urban agglomerations have built a subway system, and the majority of them are located in developed countries.

Recognising metro systems for their capacity to keep city environments clean and city roads less congested, and rewarding them accordingly, can benefit local economies and commuters alike. Financial incentives such as carbon credit issuance can make it possible for governments to build additional tracks and expand the underground infrastructure in places where such tracks wouldn't be financially viable in the absence of a carbon credit incentive. It will also encourage innovation in the area of transportation, while cost effectiveness and energy efficiency climb up on the list of priorities.

But the responsibility should not fall exclusively on the international community to make financial incentives available. It is ultimately up to the metro systems to take responsibility in proving their effectiveness in GHG emission reductions, so that they can qualify for carbon credits. As the UN points out in their statement, only the New Delhi system has so far provided documented proof of its energy efficiency. Local governments have to establish verification entities, which monitor and report emission reductions by their metro systems. The process can take time and resources, but the benefits should potentially outweigh the expenditure.

Investment Guidance from Vintages Stampers

With the current world economic status, money is a lot harder to earn than it was before. If you have earned a significant amount out of hard work, Vintages Stampers definitely would have to keep it safe or invest it in a secure business that would make it grow bigger over time. If you have earned a significant amount out of luck, so much more that you should keep it or invest it in a good business because there may be no other lucky day as such for you.

An investment is putting a significant amount of money in a business or property in the hope of getting a bigger profit from it. The profit that you would be getting over time greatly depends on the kind of investment you decide to put your money into. If you decide to invest in a wrong business there may also be a chance that you would lose your money. To make sure you do not end up broke it would be a good idea if you get reliable investment guidance from a reputable wealth management company especially if it is the first time you have to handle a huge amount.

You would need investment guidance especially when you are making a decision about what business to invest on and how much money you should invest. Someone who is experienced in guiding people about making these types of decision can easily tell whether you are thinking of the right business or not. They also have the capability to give you a rough estimate of how much money you will be getting from it as a profit. They also know how much money you can afford to risk in a totally new investment and they can recommend ways on how to guarantee that your investment will be safe and secured.

Most often, when you are managing an investment, you only get to see how things are going based on your own perspective. You do not know how others see it which is why there could also be instances when you would not know what went wrong or what caused you to lose your investment. To see things in a lot clearer and less biased way, you would need investment Vintages Stampers guidance . An experienced professional in guiding investors would be able to tell you how your investment is going and will be able to tell when you should back out or expand in it.

You would need investment guidance to save you and your money from bankruptcy. You need it to guarantee yourself that the money you have either worked so hard for or luckily had won will be safe and secured. You need it in order to make sure that you make your money grow instead of just spending it on things that do not earn. You would definitely would not want to end up begging on the streets just because you failed to manage your wealth well enough to keep it or even make it grow.

African Countries Are Pointing the Way to Sustainable Forestry Management

At the end of September 2011, the National Forest Policy of Rwanda won first place at the annual awards for policies aimed at creating better living conditions for future generations, an award backed by the United Nations. As 2011 was declared year of the forests by the UN, that was the topic of this year's awards sponsored by the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The runners-up were the United States and, another African country, the Gambia, with its Community Forest Policy. As African countries are taking home the gold and silver medals for forestry, the question that logically arises is what the rest of the world can learn from two of its poorest nations in terms of sustainable forestry management and forestry investments.

The Republic of Rwanda is an African country, which suffered 65% forest loss between the 1960s and 1990s. The situation was further complicated by the 1994 genocide, which also negatively affected the environment and forests in the country with the increasing demand of wood needed for the reconstruction that followed. The overall degradation of soil, water, land and forestry resources presented enormous challenges to the future of the nation's survival.

However, despite the existing land and population pressure, Rwanda has managed to reverse the declining forest cover. The concept underlying the adoption of environment and forest restoration measures was that taking care of the environment would help reduce poverty and secure the survival of the population that was expected to double over the course of the next 30 years.

The award-winning policy of Rwanda was introduced in 2004 to promote massive reforestation, as the country ratified the Kyoto protocol the same year. The local population was involved in planting activities that promoted species indigenous to the area. Measures also included agro-forestry as well as education about forest management. Forestry investments and sustainable development resulted in a multitude of ecological, social and economic benefits. What the national forest policy managed to accomplish was an increase of 37% in Rwanda's forest cover between 1990 and 2010. Furthermore, Rwanda became a pioneer in the banning of plastic bags by adopting a law in 2008 against the use of non-biodegradable plastic bags.

Among the future challenges before Rwanda's sustainable forest management is the goal to increase its forest cover to 30% of the total country area by 2020, and by 2035, to achieve major forest landscape restoration, as announced by the Rwandan Minister for Lands and Environment at the Ninth Session of the UN Forum on Forests. Considering the progress already made, such a statement does not sound overly optimistic.

While Rwanda's approach to sustainable forest development seems to be more institutionalised, the Gambian model relies on community forestry management. Gambia is known as one of the world's poorest nations with one third of the population living under the international poverty threshold. Nevertheless, Gambia has managed to achieve an 8.5% increase of forest cover during the past two decades.

The essence of the innovative Gambian forestry management policy is the phased approach of transferring state-owned forest land to communities and granting them permanent ownership. Among the positive outcomes of this strategy was also reduction of illegal logging and forest fires. Even though the success of the Gambian forestry policy was not achieved without help from the FAO, the efforts of the Gambian government to leave forests in the hands of the rural population have been highly praised. The intention is to place approximately half of Gambia's forests under community management by 2016.

The internationally recognised success of the forest management policies implemented in these two African countries seems closely related to UN's efforts to turn sustainable forest management into a profitable enterprise which in turn has led to popularity of forestry investments and increasing demand for REDD carbon credits.

In this context, the efforts of African governments to look for ways to promote sustainable forestry development are rather encouraging, especially in cases where local population has the opportunity to participate through community management. This in turn leads to increased social awareness toward forest preservation and emerging requirements for timber companies to spend a percentage of their profit on development of local areas. A recent example is a huge forestry project which the Mozambican government authorised in the province of Zambezia. Among the benefits that the project is expected to bring to the local community are the building of social infrastructure and construction of a solar panel factory in Maputo province.

As timber and forestry investments seem to be rather in vogue these days, thinking about sustainable forest management is all the more necessary. Therefore, it is strongly advisable for governments to focus on ways to promote and implement measures for forest preservation and the international recognition of Rwanda's and Gambia's forestry policies is a strong signal directed not only at other African countries but at the rest of the world as well

Keeping One Eye on the Market

Investment markets are seldom uneventful and the fine wine market, although relatively reliable, is no exception. Last week saw a small dip in the market, with Liv-ex reporting that its Fine Wine 50 Index, which measures the performance of First Growths, showed that the First Growths were falling out of favour with buyers, accounting for only a quarter of total trade. Nonetheless, looking beyond First Growths, a different trend was apparent. And this is a trend that should encourage first time buyers rather than weaken their confidence in the market.

The market showed that buyers are looking to invest in other wines - Second wines of the top chateaux, fine Sauternes, and second to fifth growths. If this trend continues, it indicates a very positive move for the new investor. Few of us will dive in at the deep end as a new investor and the prohibitive prices of first growths can be off putting for those of us who are just dipping our toes in the water. But that means we are largely investing in wines we are not so familiar with - Chateau Latour is a well known name but how many newcomers have heard of Cos d'Estournel or Gruaud Larose? Well, if buyers worldwide continue to snap them up the way last week's figures suggested, it won't be long before these names roll off the tongue just as easily as their more famous Bordeaux counterparts.

So how should we, as investors, react to such a decline? Well, firstly, we shouldn't be worried. Any investment market will have peaks and troughs, and many of them can be explained away by what is happening in the world economy, or the political situation in a particular country. Take advantage of the small dip in the market to invest boldly in some of the emerging superstar wines of Bordeaux. Just because Chateau Lafite seems to have temporarily lost favour with the Chinese, they have not turned their back on Bordeaux. Far from it. The fine wine market is still being discovered, and with time comes knowledge and the desire to look beyond what is familiar, beyond the famous names that initially ignited their love affair with Bordeaux.

It is a time for investors in the UK, as well as consumers in the Far East, to familiarise ourselves with the emerging wines in order to be 'in the know' so that we can buy wisely for the future and with any luck, begin to spot the wines that the Chinese are starting to gravitate towards before their prices begin to increase. And remember, long before the Far East emerged as an important market, wine was already an important commodity that was traded globally yielding substantial rewards for its investors. It is an exciting time to get involved, and knowing what to buy as well as when to sell it is still the key to success. Keep one eye on the market, and the other eye on the cellar, and you won't go far wrong.

Vive Le Trounce Vintage stampers Freebees

Fine wine investors must have been delighted to read the headline 'Fine wine trounces the FTSE 100' in the Telegraph on July 19th. This was the report that The Bordeaux Index returned 14pc in the first 6 months of the year compared to the FTSE100 return of 1pc. Investors in fine wine have enjoyed steady gains of during the first six months of the year. The wines of Bordeaux continue to dominate the fine wine market. So despite mixed feelings about the 2010 en primeur prices, things could not be more positive for the fine wine investor.

According to Gary Boom, MD of The Bordeaux Index, the expensive 2010s have created a relative value for older wines and buyers are starting to look for bottles with a few years age instead of buying en primeur. Wine enthusiasts in the Far East are looking at second to fifth growths from older vintages. Buyers in the Far East tend to be consumers rather than investors so as these fine wines are gradually consumed, the value of the remaining bottles can only rise.

Despite concerns from Robert Parker that the global economy is 'fragile' and that the image of Bordeaux might be hurt by being too expensive, the Far East remains the biggest market for Bordeaux and there are no signs of this slowing down. The label is very important to the Chinese and consequently wines whose names they have heard of sell out rapidly. Pontet-Canet, a humble 5th growth that consistently performs above its ranking, and whose prices rose by a staggering 39% for the 2010 vintage, reportedly sold out in minutes.

Perhaps Parker is right to have concerns - the global economy may be fragile and there has been a backlash from the 2010 prices, but even in difficult times there will always be wealth and a thirst for quality products. Even if the Chinese market should settle down, the emerging Russian market still looms in the distance. Parker's concern about the image of Bordeaux demonstrates a sense of responsibility for the wine that he loves, and whose prices he has had more than a hand in raising, if only because producers have so often been accused of basing their prices on his reviews. At a time when Bordeaux was under heavy criticism, it was appropriate for someone of Parker's authority to step in with a remark that may or may not have an impact on next year's prices. While growers have a great respect for Parker, they also keep a shrewd eye on the Far East. As long as they know that their wine will sell, they see no reason to cease increasing their prices.

While other alternative investments have floundered through the recession, the fine wine market has continued to soar. As with any investment you should always be vigilant and aware of the global market. Many of the Far Eastern consumers are relatively new to fine wine so their tastes are just developing, and they are beginning to experiment. Sales of first growths to the Chinese might drop off slightly as they start to discover other wines, and there has been some evidence of this trend. Fundamentally, consumers are savvy too and if they can find a way to spend less money on more wine and still have exceptional quality, then they will. Be a smart investor and let your wine investment company advise you on what brands are popular in the Far East and the other emerging markets.

Ways to Invest in China

So you've heard of all the capitalists striking it rich in this great place of socialism and you want a piece of the action too huh? It's true that millionaires have sprung up like bamboo after the rain, but most of the people got that way though entrepreneurial exploits creating businesses to serve the needs of a more affluent society, or manufacturing goods for export. The really lucky ones, like He Ping, the son-in-law of Deng Xiaoping, used their guanxi (Chinese connections) to strike up sweet deals with powerful Party officials.

As a so-called "emerging" market, there are still plenty of opportunities for investors to earn a reasonable return, but speculators need to beware; as with anything Chinese, investing is a complex matter with many subtleties unappreciated by the typical Westerner. But if you follow my advice, you may strike it rich. Ok, maybe not, but you will have some practical advice and maybe avoid a few pitfalls. Even with economic growth in China expected to remain at close to 10%, don't forget the basics of buying stock. When you are buying a stock, you are handing over your hard-earned money to a company that is supposed to use your money for things like purchasing more equipment that will help them earn more money by manufacturing more stuff. However, there are countless cases in which businesspeople have pocketed the newly invested funds rather than using the money to expand their business. So be careful, and consider yourself warned.

The best way to directly invest in China's economy is by purchasing Chinese company stocks that trade on the New York Stock Exchange such as China Eastern Airlines or China Unicom. A handful of others trade on the NASDAQ. The bottom line is that numerous Chinese stocks can be purchases using a typical US broker as easily as you would purchase a U.S.-based company's stock. In this case your money is subject to U.S. investment laws, so it is presumably safer.

Besides the obvious "buy low" and "sell high" advice, you might consider the old "diversify your investments" approach, in which case you should put your money into a mutual fund with investments in Asia generally or China specifically. Some of the larger U.S.-based financial service companies offer mutual funds that hold securities from all over Asia. In such a mutual fund, the return on your investment should mirror the overall Chinese economy's performance, so you shouldn't need to sell your clothing for food, but you won't be able to strike it rich either.

Time and Structure

We talk a lot about the Old vs New World in the wine industry, so it was interesting to read Graham Holter's article on the Harpers site on 19th August, revealing that a leading wine merchant believed that the top wines from California and Australia, as well as Europe's finest, would soon challenge Bordeaux's dominance of the fine wine market. The research by Slurp Investment, Holter says, shows that the current premium commanded by Bordeaux is "unsustainable", and that the wines of California and Australia are undervalued and consequently not sufficiently represented.

This argument has always interested me - at times when I've been fortunate enough to taste great Californians, I have been simultaneously impressed and surprised and part of me is rooting for them to get the recognition they deserve. But - and I think this is a personal thing - I can't help thinking that the best of California lies around the £30-£40 mark. Beyond this, there are some excellent wines, but I am not sure they stand up to Bordeaux's offerings for the equivalent price.

The article goes on to say that the best New World wines are being made with ageing in mind whereas modern Bordeaux wines are often being made to be more accessible at a young age. There is an interesting argument about the structure of wine here - It has long been thought that Bordeaux producers were leaning towards ripe, fruit-forward, sumptuous Parker-pleasing wines that could be enjoyed young, and the Chinese certainly love to pop the corks on wines that are still in their youth. Could it be the case that Bordeaux producers have been getting it wrong, while the New World have slipped under the radar, making wines that will just be hitting their peak at the height of the New World boom 30 years from now?

Of course, this is simplifying things greatly - Yes, corks are being popped on young Bordeaux, but the phenomenal structure of the top wines will ensure that the bottles that remain are capable of great age. And it is great to see the New World producers thinking ahead and producing ageworthy wines. But how much do we really know about these ageworthy wines? The answer is, not enough - we have to take their word for it that the wines will age, to some extent. And despite the expertise and innovation that goes into making these wines - it still seems to be a world far removed from the safety of Bordeaux's rich history. If we pop the corks on them 30 years from now, they might be in good condition and ready to drink. But, will we like them as much as we like Bordeaux?

I used to stand staunchly with the belief that there was nothing that the New World could do to rival Bordeaux at the top end of the market - the best New World reds will make fleeting appearances at auction but the limitations of production will always ensure that they remain a niche market. But I don't feel so strongly anymore - I believe that given time, it will be an important market for the alternative investor as new wines emerge. But therein lies the problem for the New World - time. Right now the market is Bordeaux, and it will be a long, long time before there are enough New World wines to take a significant chunk of the market away.

Sometimes, as investors, we forget that wine is not just a commodity to buy and sell. It has structure and finesse and flavour and longevity, and even if we choose not to drink it ourselves, the reality is that the Chinese, as well as wine lovers globally, are going to drink it, rather than just move it from cellar to cellar for a profit. And so, fundamentally, the wine has to be really, really good. It has to gain critical approval from the press in order to gain recognition from the emerging markets. This is what makes Bordeaux so successful, it is not just an accident of history that the famous wines are still considered to be the best. Their quality has remained high but they have also moved with the times, making wines that will impress their key audiences and continuing to court them while always identifying and penetrating new markets as they emerge.

A Hard Year for Heroes (Or, an Ode to Staying Power)

If your retirement account is in good shape this year, you are ahead of Wall Street's finest. One of the world's largest hedge funds has nearly been cut in half. John Paulson made billions with a huge bet on the housing bubble. His success attracted a flood of capital. At the peak, Paulson's funds managed a whopping $38 billion.

In 2011, though, John Paulson made another huge bet on economic recovery -- a forecast that never came to pass. His conviction, and the size of his bets, turned against him with a vengeance in 2011. At the end of September, Reuters reports, Paulson's largest fund was down 47%. (His other funds are down double digits too, in varying amounts.)

Salida Capital, a Toronto-based hedge fund with a focus on energy and gold, was also cut in half as of September's end (down 49.4%). Three-quarters of that decline came in a single month. Salida had extreme exposure to gold and gold stocks (as did Paulson), and the two-edged sword of leverage cuts deep.

It isn't just those two, though. Many big-name investors are taking lumps in 2011, Institutional Investor magazine reports. Mark Mobius of Templeton Emerging Markets -- down 22%. Bill Ackman of Pershing Square -- down 17%. Value investor Whitney Tilson of T2 Partners -- down 29%. (All these numbers are on an end-of-September basis.)

"Where's the hedging?" jokes Institutional Investor.

A dirty secret of the managed money industry is that, while some funds actually do "hedge" (i.e. take pains to guard against large losses), many of them do not. Given this reality, it might make sense to call them "levered funds" instead.

For investors, it might be useful to distinguish between funds that truly guard against loss, and those whose idea of risk control is "picking the best stocks" or simply "being right." One could further say there is a style of investing -- call it hero investing -- where the manager bets the farm on a very specific worldview. If that worldview comes to pass, and does so in the right time frame, the result is champagne and roses. But if things turn out other than expected, the results can be awful.

It's been a hard year for heroes. Those making big wagers on economic recovery have seen their investment portfolios battered by top-down macroeconomic shocks. And those expecting full-on collapse have been repeatedly thwarted by last-minute hope jags. ("Stocks rise on Europe optimism," a recent headline read. "Stocks rise on same old B.S.," it should have said, "likely soon to jag down again.")

Are there any useful lessons here? Yes. The first one being, "Don't be a hero -- except in very selective circumstances." For example: Many who make the long-term gold and silver case advise avoiding too much leverage... or at the very least, keeping it on a tight leash. For most investors, leverage is like dynamite. A little bit goes a long way, and skillful handling is required. Too much leverage, like too much dynamite, is an invitation for blowing up.

The inverse of leverage is staying power. It is very hard to lose a third of your money in a month (as Salida did) if you are focused on staying power. A key aspect of winning the game is making sure you play for a long time -- that you are never carried out.

There are traders and investors who understand this, and hedge funds that understand it too. They maintain staying power by considering the risk first, keeping leverage in check and focusing on asymmetric bets. (This is exactly the kind of thing my colleague Zach Scheidt does, for instance, in Hedge Fund Strategist.)

An asymmetric bet is one in which the downside is low, or limited, but the potential gain is attractive. Trading strategy examples for limiting risk include cutting losses quickly or structuring trades with options, such that the potential gain is many multiples of the potential loss. Investing strategy examples include a deep value focus, purchasing assets for less than their true worth, and emphasizing staying power (not using too much leverage) so as not to be shaken out.

More than ever, 2011 has proven itself a year for focusing on risk. Fortunately this is a specialty of Insiders Strategy Group, with multiple tools available for limiting downside and maximizing upside.

Where Do Bank Interest Rates Come From?

We all know what investing means - it means putting your money somewhere where you will be able to watch it grow without touching it. On the one hand this keeps it safe - keeping it under your bed will mean that it doesn't grow in value and eventually this will mean that it doesn't increase along with inflation - eventually you will find that your money has very little value. At the same time keeping it under your bed would look like tax evasion and likely get you into legal trouble, and would furthermore mean your money was vulnerable to being destroyed - in the case of a house fire for instance; or stolen in the case of a burglary.

At the same time investing your money means putting it somewhere where it should get bigger and that means that you are making the most of your money. The great thing is that interest on your money is cumulative and self-perpetuating. In other words the longer you invest your money for, the larger the sum grows and so the more money you make. This is because any interest is usually added onto that lump sum of capital meaning that you are technically investing more over time - as the interest is calculated as a percentage of your original amount this means that you are guaranteed to earn more and more as time goes on.

For most of us though investing means simply putting our money into a bank account and then getting the interest rates from that. When you put your money into a bank it is kept safe and it will grow over time making it a smart investment - but have you ever thought about how your lump sum grows when it's in a bank?

The answer is simple - banks invest your money for you. Thus if you put your money into a bank, they essentially borrow that money while it's in there and use it to invest in businesses, in properties and in everything else. Then as the value of those businesses and those properties go up, so does the value of your money - your cut of that investment. The more money you put in to the bank, the more you get out.

The good news is that you can withdraw your money - with the interest it has accrued - at any time. This is simply because the bank has so many people's money in there that unless everyone withdrew all their cash at once, they would still have enough money to pay each individual. However that said for very large investments the bank would still be in trouble if people took out too much money and that's why they offer incentives for you not to. You will notice for instance that those accounts that offer the very best interest rates are the ones that don't let you access them on a whim and don't let you set up direct debits - for instance ISAs and savings accounts.

Bank interest is earned via investments that the banks make on your behalf. The concept is not as intimidating as the word itself sounds. In very simple terms, compounding is the process of earning income on income. In other words, it is all about earning interest on interest on interest...

An example below will make the idea crystal clear.

Suppose Aarti puts Rs.5000 p.m. in a Recurring Deposit for 30 years. Bhavna starts 10 years later and saves Rs.7500 p.m. for 20 years. Chitra takes 10 more years to start and saves Rs.15000 p.m. for 10 years. Thus all three would have saved Rs.18 lakhs.

Assuming they earn 10% p.a. interest, at 55 Chitra will have about Rs.32 lakhs, Bhavna about Rs.56 lakhs and Aarti an astounding Rs.1 crore. As you can clearly see, saving for 'more time' gives much better results than saving 'more money'. This happens simply because Aarti keeps earning interest on interest on interest for years together; which is much better than investing 3 times the amount as Chitra does.

This is the magic of compounding. This is the secret of becoming rich.

As you will observe, you need 3 things to become a millionaire:

Some small amount of money

Time, Discipline and Patience

A little bit of financial knowledge

Given the ingenuity and bargaining skills, I am sure that saving a small amount from the monthly budgets will not be a very big challenge for the housewives. All you need is to start say with even Rs.500 every month. As you go along, you will learn to squeeze more and more amounts. And slowly but surely you will be on track to becoming a millionaire.

And, of course, when it comes to (a) giving time, (b) maintaining discipline and (c) being patient, the aptitude, potential and competence of a typical housewife is legendary. She would simply outclass men in all these areas. [In fact, I am of the firm opinion that women have more self-control and willpower then men; and hence are likely to be more successful in managing money.]

Opening an RD does not require any financial expertise. But you may need some financial knowledge if you want to fast-track your millionaire aspirations. Believe me, handling financial affairs is no rocket science. Don't get disturbed by all the jargon thrown at you. Dump all heavy-duty calculations into the dustbin. None of it is necessary. It all boils down to plain and simple common sense...and loads of commitment.

Just 6 months to 1 year would be sufficient to become sufficiently proficient in money matters. You are intelligent enough to turn your small children into doctors, engineers and scientists. So I see no reason why you cannot turn small amounts into millions. Trust me this will be a lot easier than bringing up kids.

Moreover, given that the financial knowledge is going to serve you for your lifetime, you should begin as early as possible. But it is never too late to start. Besides, you can pass all this financial wisdom to your kids too.
