I have fund and am now using a better (for us) product, its called FlairBuilder.com and its GREAT.?

It does what the other do (and as fast) except it goes further (if you want to) - as its creates interactive mockups that actually run ie. the control are all real controls.

Its doesnt have a "sketchy" look but it being added as we speak, so then it will offer that appealing "not ready" look for managers :-)

I've been trying for over a month to get custom paging working with a gridview with no success, but I got yours working on my data quickly and easily. Thanks very much for the great article. The only addition I need is how to reduce the page numbers from being spread across the page when there is a large number of records returned, for example 1,2,3, 99,100, etc I would like 1-10... 11-20, etc. Can you please provide the code to do this?

It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

I worked a problem like this dealing with assigning football teams to matches over the course of a season, and balancing out home and away matches to fit pitches available.

Long story short, we couldn't get an elegant solution to solve the problem perfectly, and ended up throwing everything into random slots, checking to see if this attempt scored a better fit then the current best, and repeat a few hundred thousand times.

It worked, but it's a little frustrating that it isn't a more structured answer, but in the end it's the end result that count.

I sent in a bug report and Microsoft replied and closed it with "By Design" - so shame on use for thinking it's easy to change the background color of a button (without Blend).

I want to point out that comparing anything to the Contains() version is not very useful. That is a very bad way to do the comparison, and there are much better ways in LINQ, so the crap performance of the Contains() code does not indicate any problem with LINQ.

A similar tack would be comparing a brute-force bubble sort in C++ to a tuned quicksort in C#. The slowness of the bubble sort would not indicate that C# code runs faster than C++.

I have implemented your solution way in my project an i'm very happy for the solution.
But I need a solution for filtering the gridview?
When I try to use the objectdatasource1.filterExpression = String.Format("(NAME LIKE '{0}')", txtSearchByName.Text); I got a error meesage it's only possible when the Select method returns DataSet or DataTable.
