The Show is a unique, inspiring and glamorous event. All of the models taking part, both female and male, will have their hair done by VIP Stylists, and The Show is the flagship fundraising event in the charity’s calendar in the Hair Industry and kick starts Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Last year the show brought together more than 500 guests and was also attended by local celebrities such as Brumilda van Rensburg who called the show “One of the most prestige events on the South African Calendar”. The Hair Show raised more than R30 000.00 for Cansa South Africa with the event.

The Hair Show is attended by supporters of Breast Cancer Organizations, friends and families of the models, celebrities like Mr South Africa, Edith Venter and Heinz Winkler as well as corporate sponsors and employees within these companies that are cancer survivors.

As a fundraising event, The Show enables Breast Cancer Organizations to continue to provide information and support to those who are affected by breast cancer. There are many different hair extension systems available.

Choosing the right hair extensions for yourself is definitely worth spending the time and effort to research and make an educated decision. Here are a few pointers to help you along your way

1. Referrals- Where possible, use a satisfied extension client’s referral for a hair extension system. Ask your friends, family, even your hairdresser. This way you will have an idea of what people have worn and what their experiences were like.
2. The hair- The hair that you find in hair extensions comes from many different sources and is processed in different ways to achieve the colour, texture and feel. The quality of hair will determine how natural the extensions look, how manageable the hair is, comfort and ease of wearing. Unfortunately the rule of thumb here is “you get what you pay for”.There is no such thing as cheap good quality hair. 100% human hair is a scarce commodity which many different companies are vying for. So you need to find 100% human hair, that still has the cuticle layer intact, is sourced ethically, looks and feels fantastic – and stays that way for at least 3 months.
3. The bond- How the hair extensions are attached to your own hair is another key factor. The bond determines how long your extensions will last in your hair, how easily the extensions can be removed, if the extensions can be reused, whether the extensions are visible and whether they damage your own hair or not.Remember that bonds stay in close contact to your hair for months. Look for proven technologies, bonds that blend with your own natural colour, are easily removed, can be separated into smaller units for fine hair, don’t have sharp edges or properties that will damage your hair.
4. Your lifestyle- Your hair extensions must adapt to your lifestyle. So make sure that your extensions can live your life. Do you wear your hair up, wash your hair daily, flat iron, or curl your hair, swim or go to gym? Different systems require different amounts of attention and maintenance.
5. The look- What do you want your hair extensions to do? Are you looking for longer hair, to volumise thinning hair or wanting to change your style? Do you want to change your look for one night or for months? Not all hair extensions can fulfil every need.
6. Your technician- Any system is only as good as the person who installs them. Meet with them, ask questions, ask to see a portfolio of their work and if they have existing clients who could give referrals. How long have they been working with extensions, do they make you feel comfortable and do they sound like they know what they are talking about.
7. The budget-As mentioned before, you get what you pay for. There are some things to bear in mind however. If your hair looks fantastic, it doesn’t really matter what clothes you wear, you will still feel fantastic.When you pay for cheaper hair extensions you are sacrificing something. Is it quality, bonding, or how long the extensions will last? When using a reusable system, find out how much they charge for a reinstallation. Are all the costs explained? Are you paying extra for removal, cutting and treatments?Please remember that when extensions go bad, they can go really bad. You won’t just be losing your money, but your hair can also be very badly damaged. Acquire as much information as you possibly can, ideally from independent sources.
