If you are only visiting Virginia Beach for a few days or a week or so, then an excellent way to spend 1 or 2 hours is to hire one of the tandem bikes which are for rent. Every 3 or 4 blocks you will find a bike rental location.

Bike hire locations on Virginia Beach boardwalk can be found at various locations including 24 and half street and 13th and 14th streets.

Along with Myrtle Beach and Ocean City, Virginia Beach is one of the main places on the middle of the East Coast of the U.S. where backpackers and students head to for summer work. Wine week in Virginia beach - 2007

There are many food festivals in Viginia Beach during the summer but now drink is also representated with Virginia Beach 1st annual wine festival.

Whether you like Sicilian wines, Spanish wines, Californian wines or any other types of wine, this festival is expected to be popular and will offer you the chance to taste a number of different quality wines for producers, sellers and distributors.

Virginia Beach Wine Festival will take place from the 23rd September to the 30th September and it wil involve over 30 restaurants. A series of wine dinners will be held and discounts will be offered in a number the particaptign restaurants on wine.

The wine sampling will take place on September 21st in the Virginia Beach Convention Center.

Virginia beach soccer competition

Whilst Beckham mania hits the West Coast of America, soccer comes to Virginia Beach with the 11th Neptune soccer classic on the 4th and 5th of August 2007. The competition takes place at Hampton Roads soccer complex, where there are approx a dozen soccer pitches.

George's Seafood buffet & Harpoon Larrys

In all the summers I have spent in Virginia Beach, there are two places I always visit when I am there. One to eat, one drink and both within 5 minutes walk of each other.

George's Seafood Buffet, on the cross section of 26th street and Atlantic Avenue is my favourite seafood restuarant in the area. The buffet has always been good when I have been there and the menu also good. Food is usually served quite fast, service good overall and lots of seafood on the buffet. Say Paul Symonds sent you and ask for a small discount!

After a meal in George's I always love going to Harpoon Larry's on the corner of 24th street and Pacificn avenue. Fusball, friendly service and try oyster night (perhaps on a different day to George's). You can call George's on (757) 422-4098. Bon appetite!

24th Annual Pungo Strawberry Festival - May 26th & 27th

If you are living in Virginia Beach and especailly if you are a fruit lover (as they say Virginia Beach is for lovers) and if you are interested in fresh and farm produce, then the annual Pungo Strawberry Festival in Virginia Beach is worth considering.

On from 9am through to 7pm and free to enter, this event often brings in over one hundred thousand visitors and it invoplves a variety of activities, stalls, strawberries and shows. At the show you can enjoy watching and participating in the pie eating contest, strawberry bake-off, or watch the parade. The kids will love this event with plenty for children to do and see.

Originally started in 1983, The Virginia beach strawberry festival continues to grow and all profits go back into the local comunity.

Virginia Beach airport

If you are travelling to Virginia Beach for a real estate viewing, there is a good chance you might be flying into Norfolk airport. You could also choose the Williamsburg airport but Norfolk is arguably your best bet.

Norfolk airport, Virginia is perhaps the easiest airport to fly into in terms of then getting to Virginia Beach. Norfolk airport is erved by many airlines including budget airlines such as Southwest Airlines, in addition to airlines such as Delta and American Airlines.

You can get a Greyhound from the airport to Virginia Beach and then get a taxi to your hotel or residence. If you wish to pay a little more there are also plenty of airport shuttle bus services at your disposal.

New Tourist Bus for Virginia Beach (23rd Feb. 07)

Tourism and the money it generates for the Virginia Beach economy benefits everyone who owns real estate in the local area. For this reason, expendicture on Virginia Beach which will result in greater returns for the beach area and local residents seems like a good idea to me.

Local officials have recently bought a brand new tourist bus which will begin to replace the old trolleys which are still in use. There are thirty-two trolleys at the moment but the Opus named buses will mean room for fifty-four people in each bus, but costs approx. three hundred and fifty thousand dollars each. The buses are bulkier than the trolleys but certainly more comfortable.

Events in Virgina Beach (5th Feb 07)

From the 3rd through to t he 9th February 2007, the Mid-Atlantic Sports and Boat Show will take place. The Mid-Atlantic Sports and Boat Show takes place at the Virginia Beach Convention Center and as one of the largest events of its type, it covers over 150,000sq.ft. Exhibits will include all types of boats, marine equipment and services.

Virginia beach decision reversed (13th Dec. 06)

It may not greatly affect real estate investors in Virginia Beach but it is fun to follow. The Virginia Beach City Council have now reversed their previous vote to reject out of season horse rides on the boardwalk. It's now back on after a successful vote of 9-2 in favour of the horse rides. Despite an oitcry from animal rights protestors, the council decided to allow the rides.

Will this change the face of Virginia Beach. NO!!! Happy Christmas from Virginia.

No horses for Virgina Beach (22nd Nov. 06)

At this time of year there is not so much news on the property and real estate front. So just to give you an idea of what else is in the news in Virgina Beach, you might be interested to know that Virginia Beach city officials have turned down an idea to offer horse rides on the Oceanfront tourist area.

The idea was that horse rides would be allowed on the beach whilst carriage rides would take place on the Boardwalk from November to April. Despite a successful trial of the rides, the Virginia Beach Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals spoke opposed the idea, as did some residents. Alas, no more horse rides.

Virginia Beach Bars (26th Oct.06)

Virginia Beach accounts for approx 5% of the state of Virginia's population, yet the city accounts for as much as 20% of the states alcohol licenses. This perhaps helps to explain why there are several drink related arrests during the summer months. So what can be done to lower the alcohol related incidents, to make this a better enviroment for property owners and residents on the beachfront?

The City Council has come up with what might be considered by some, a very innovative way of reducing the number of bars on the beach. Buying them and stopping them from re-opening :) It is no joke! The council have created a new plan of action and this involves allocating just under 1 million dollars for the premises which used to be Peppers, on the corner of 17th Street and Pacific Avenue.

The general idea from the council seems to try and create more of a family environment. There is no denying though that the bars which in a lot of money for the local community. The council are thought to have no specific plans on what to do with the premises they have purchased. Watch this space.

Getting to Virginia Beach (3rd Oct. 06)

If you do not already live in Virginia Beach, you may be wondering how to get there. You could be going there from the West Coast of the U.S. or travellling from Europe, i.e. London or Paris. There are 2 relatively close airports to Virginia beach and these are: Norfolk Airport and Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport. Both airports are driveable from Virginia Beach and if flying from mainland USA, you should be able to get a flight into one of these two airports, i.e. via Southwest Airlines or another airline.

If you are flying in internationally, the Washigton airports such as Dulles are more likely to be appropitiate. You can then drive from D.C., or catch a Greyhound bus or Amtrak train, to Virginia Beach.
If you are coming New York City then you might actually find that travelling by Amtrak train

Are house prices in Virginia slowing down? (26th Sep. 06)

It is thought by many experts that the rise in house prices in Virginia beach and Hampton Roads is now slowing down. For the last 5 years, prices have risen at surprisingly high rates but now there are definite signs of a slow-down. Virginians might even be wary of the situation that has happened down South in places such as Orlando, Florida where many real estate being sold at a reduced price. This is unlikely to happen in Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads though, with some people such as Real Estate Assessor Jerry Banagan for example, believing that property will increase by about 20% in Virginia Beach in the coming year. It is anyones guess at to how prices will change.

Year- round tourism in Virginia Beach? (15th Sep 06)

If there was all year round tourism in Virginia Beach, it would certainly help real estate and property rentals. Well, the officials of Virginia Beach apparently want just that, year-round tourism. The attraction in the summer time is the weather and the beach front in my view, with the wintery rains and cold surely not attractive in my view. But....

City officials nevertheless, are said to be attempting to attract more out of season visitors by focusing on the things such as the city's new 200 million dollar convention center. They might also further develop the oceanfront. Virginia Beach officials say that this was not the best year for hotel occupancy and they do feel that trying to extend the season will help. Conferences and exhibitions will dramatically help it is believed.

Last spring, events such as the Redskins Beach Blitz attracted 5,000 people and brought in several million dollars. This type of conference is typical of what the officialis are loking for. More conference dollars. Further down the coast, Myrtle Beach, South Caralina, is building a 400 million dollar theme park and this immediately will compete with some of the tourists to Virginia. Real Estate: What I like about Virginia Beach! (8th Sep. 06)

I spent many summers in Virginia Beach and I regularly now visit friends there every summer and I hope soon to buy a piece of real estate near the beach-front myself. I thought that on this blog, I might as well tell you what it is about Virginia beach that I enjoy so much.

The easiest way to explain just how Virginia beach is a real community atmosphere. An example I will give you is my regular visits to the gym when I lived there. I looked around the beach-front area and I came across Warings Gym on 700 19th Street, Va Bch. After joining I soon began to appreciate that even though this is arguably the best gym in Virginia Beach, it is also still family run. It always impressed me how they always remembered my name and how the waring family were always so friendly. (No, I do not make commission for promoting them :)

This experience whereby there is a community and friendly style to everyday life, displays what I like about Virginia Beach. In fact, if you want to see the real virginia beach then go there in the winter-time. That is when you will meet the locals rather than tourists. I like the summers by the beach also though, with plenty going on includling music festivals, arts and crafts show on the boardwalk etc.

Virginia Beach in the black

If you are planning to buy real estate or property in Virginia Beach, you may be interested to know that Virginia Beach City Council was left with approx U.S.$20 million (approx. £12 million Sterling) in the black this last fiscal year. This positive news can surely only be a good thing for people looking to invest in this area. Granted, it may not directly affect investors, but that said, it can only help in terms of spending within the Virginia Beach area.

David Hansen, the City Council's Finance Officer, now has the job do deciding how to use the money. There are many things that the money can be used for, including for example, paying off some of the ten million dollars off of the Virginia Beach Convention Centre. The money could just as easily be pumped into Virginia Beach education, or even roads or health care services.

However Mr Hansen decides to spend the money, the fact that Virginia Beach council are now spending less than what they bring in, this has to be a positive for local people and local property owners.

Virginia Real Estate: And hurricanes (23rd Aug 06)

Real Estate and property buyers, looking to invest in the Virginia Beach and Hampton Roads and also North Carolina areas, may be wondering what to make of the danger of hurricanes in terms of buying in an area located close to water. Hurricanes do sometimes hit the coast of Virginia and a relatively high proportion of homes are build with wood in Virginia, whilst others are built with concerete/bricks.

With a recent report stating that real estate in Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Newport News area of Virginia and North Carolina, the 2nd quarter average price of $237,300 for houses, an increase of 23.6 percent. People are buying, prices are rising, hurricanes will not go away.

So should you buy in a potential hurricane area. The truth is that it is up to you. Are you bothered by the threat of hurricanes? Can you afford the insurance to cover such an event? The best thing if you are worried is to seek professional advice. I cannot give you expert advice but I can make you aware of this consideration. On a positive note, I should tell you that I know so many people living in the beach area and they are not concerned in the slightest. The life in Virginia beach is one which is liad back, with a real community type of atmosphere. The locals are real friendly. if you are in Virginia Beach go and chat with the local sin the live music bar The Jewish Mother or Harpoon Larrys Seafood Bar.

Virginia - A great place to be (15th Aug. 06)

If you own Virginia Beach real estate, i.e. a house or an apartment down by Virginia Beach, then this is a great time to down by the beach front (provided you don't mind the crowds). I lived for several summers in Virginia Beach and the summer time always provided lots of entertainment and lots of fun. This September 1st -3rd, sees the visit of the American Music Festival 2006 on the Virginia Beach oceanfront, with bands such as KC & the Sunshine Band, Sister Sledge, and Gloria Gaynor.

Next week is also the 4th East Coast Surfing Championships in Virginia beach, between 23rd and 27th August. There is always plenty and to so for people looking to make money from their real estate, rental opportunities are excellent between June and September.
