I note Hawking uses the word “creation”; I think he is right.  The universe was created.  He’s just wrong about how it happened and Who did it.  Hawking suggests that the laws of science brought the universe into being and thus there is no need for a deity.  But the former holder of the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics might differ with Hawking:

Gravity explains the motions of the planets, but it cannot explain who set the planets in motion. God governs all things and knows all that is or can be done.

He [Bolton] has assailed the administration’s “policy chaos” in Afghanistan. And he has unabashedly called for a military strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities while accusing the White House of leaving the U.S. defenseless by canceling missile defenses in Poland and the Czech Republic (the administration later announced a scaled-back defensive shield).

But he is an extreme skeptic on UN and related issues; that’s good:

As President George W. Bush’s undersecretary of state for arms control, Bolton rarely saw an international treaty — whether on global warming, biological weapons or arms smuggling — that he didn’t want out of. His hard-line views prompted Senate Democrats to block his 2005 U.N. nomination. Bush did an end-around by giving Bolton a temporary recess appointment to the international body that Bolton openly disdained for its tendency to compromise.

President Bolton would surely not support the International Criminal Court, the UN Child Treaty, or CEDAW.  That’s good, too.  I would sleep well in a Bolton administration as far as sovereignty is concerned.  Bolton’s place in the Presidential debate would be helpful.  But I won’t switch; I’m for Ron Paul – his views are clear, as he said at the Value Voters debate in 2008:  He wants US out of the UN, the IMF, the World Bank, the WTO, NAFTA, CAFTA, and GATT.  I doubt Bolton will go that far.  I do think there is a place in politics for John Bolton.  Perhaps US Senate or a cabinet post in a Paul administration.  But not behind the Oval Office desk.

Remember before the State Quarter series in 1999?  American coins were dull and boring.  The quarter had not been changed since 1932; the dime since 1946.  Same ol’, same ol designs year after year.  But in 1999, things changed dramatically with the new quarter with Caesar Rodney riding a horse to vote for independence.  The State Quarter program was the brainchild of the Congressman from Delaware:  Michael N. Castle.

The state quarters caused enthusiasm for coin collecting:  Kids bought albums and collected every coin in the series. Wikipedia reports (footnotes omitted):

The program was conceived as a means of creating a new generation of coin collectors, and in that it succeeded.^[2] The 50 State Quarters program became the most successful numismatic program in history, with roughly half of the U.S. population collecting the coins, either in casual manner or as a serious pursuit.^[3] The U.S. federal government so far has made a profit of $4.6 billion from collectors taking the coins out of circulation.^[4]

Soon, the territories were added, a nickel series commemorating the Lewis and Clark expedition, the Lincoln Bicentennial series, and the Presidential dollar coin.  Castle was a leading sponsor of the state quarters, the Lincoln series and the Presidential dollar coin designs and was supportive of the effort to both honor Lewis and Clark and to ensure that Monticello was returned to the reverse of the nickel.

Castle’s latest numismatic victory may be his best:  The America the Beautiful quarter series:  56 coins, one from each state and territory of national parks and monuments.  A new quarter series to continue the great hobby of numismatics without having to pay huge sums of money.

After reading this week’s winning entries, it’s not hard to understand that you really might get all the news you need from the weather report, standard media outlets can’t get a story right.

In his council winning submission this week, NYC Cabbie Slashed by Drunken Nutjob – Left Wing Media Makes Up the Rest, VA Right concludes:

So in the end, all we have is a drunken, crazy man who stabbed someone else and was apprehended blocking traffic on Third Avenue, or possible sitting on the sidewalk.

He may or may not be Muslim.

He may or may not have worked for Intersection International.

The Ground Zero Mosque was never mentioned, although the Cabbie claims he asked him if he were a Muslim.

In the end, it seems we have a troubled 21 year old kid with a drinking problem and a screw loose. Nothing more.

A Ground Zero Mosque hate crime? Not hardly.

VA Right also gets credit for submitting this week’s non-council winner, RedState’s A Free Society And The Muslim Conundrum. The winning council entry was about manufacturing a hate crime when there was none, the non-council pick this week, discusses outraged sensibilites where there ought not to be.

We have a young muslim, whose family is established enough to live in Potomac, MD (median family income, $177,000) and front the AU tuition and expenses for at least one of his siblings, who is upset that someone voiced opposition to the GZM. He wasn’t beaten or threatened or in any way insulted. He either heard or was involved in a conversation in which one party was against the GZM. While we can write his outrage off to the Walter-Mittyism of a 17 year old, we are less able to rationalize the statements by people who should know better. When we are told that if the mosque is not built there will be more islamic radicals and when the muslim chaplain at Georgetown and other ” leaders” warn that Americans exercising their rights as citizens could ” radicalize” people this is not a cry for acceptance, this is narcissism on steroids.

These MSM stories aren’t news, they’re narratives designed to promote the values of the “news organizations” doing the “reporting.”

Alas, with the passing of John Lennon, a true reunion was not to be. And then George Harrison joined John in their own Strawberry Fields.

But before they broke up, and before The Long and Winding Road was a hit, Let It Be climbed the charts to number one.

Perhaps Barack Obama can find wisdom in the simple lyrics penned 40 years ago. Perhaps Mother Mary will play on his heart to “Let It Be”. To stop ruining the country and let us return to prosperity and leave his Socialist dreams far behind. They have never worked, and will not work now.

If Obama will not Let It Be, allow things that should fail to fail, I promise you the voters will not let it be in November. It is already too late, but the threatened and predictable flow of more ruinous legislation from a Lame Duck session will crush America.

Why did you start blogging?

If I remember correctly it was the combination of 9/11 and the so-called “Aqsa intifada” and the attendant reporting (or mis-reporting) that encouraged me to get started.

The organization, Honest Reporting got started due the latter. In this video, Tuvia Grossman meets the soldier (actually border policeman) who saved him 10 years earlier.

To be sure, over the next few weeks there would be several more incidents of journalistic malfeasance. There was the killing of Mohammed al-Dura, which was attributed to Israeli soldiers. It took two and a half years for anyone in the mainstream media to raise doubts about the narrative. James Fallows wrote “Who killed Mohammed al-Dura?” for the Atlantic in June 2003.

The al-Dura case stands out as a prime example of what Richard Landes calls “Pallywood.”

WHY?

1. He destroyed the Clinton Political Machine – Driving a stake thru the heart of Hillary’s Presidential aspirations – something no Republican was ever able to do.  Remember when a Hillary Presidency scared the daylights out of you!

2. He killed off the Kennedy Dynasty – No more Kennedy’s trolling Washington looking for booze and women wanting rides home.  American women and freedom are safer tonight!

3. He is destroying the Democratic Party before our eyes!

Dennis Moore had never lost a race – quit
Evan Bayh had never lost a race – quit
Byron Dorgan – had never lost a race – quit
Harry Reid – Soon to be GONE

These are just a handful of the Democrats that whose political careers Obama has destroyed! By the end of 2010, dozens more will be!

In December of 2008, the Democrats were on the rise.  In the last two election cycles, they had picked up 14 senate seats and 52 house seats.  The press was touting the death of the Conservative Movement and the Republican Party.  In just one year, Obama put a stop to all of this and will probably give the House, if not the Senate, back to the Republicans.

4. He has completely exposed liberals and progressives for what they are.  Every Generation seems to need to relearn the lesson on why they should never actually put liberals in charge.  He is bringing home the lesson very well!

Liberals tax, borrow and spend – check
Liberals won’t bring themselves to protect America – check
Liberals want to take over the economy – check
Liberals think they know what is best for everyone – check
Liberals aren’t happy till they are running YOUR life – check

5. He has brought more Americans back to conservatism than anyone since Reagan. In ONE year, he rejuvenated the Conservative movement and brought out to the streets millions of Freedom Loving Americans. Name me one other time in your life that you saw your friends and neighbors this interested in taking back America!

6. His amazing leadership has sparked the greatest period of sales of firearms and ammunition this country has seen. Law-abiding citizens have rallied and have provided a “stimulus” to the sporting goods field while other industries have failed, faded or moved off-shore!

7. In all honesty, one year ago I was more afraid than I had ever been in my 82 years.  Not of the economy, but of the direction our country was going.  I thought Americans had forgotten what this country was all about.  My neighbors, friends, strangers proved to me that my lack of confidence of the Greatness and Wisdom of the American people was flat out wrong.

8. When the American People wake up no smooth talking teleprompter reader can fool them!

Barack Obama woke up these Great Americans!

Again I want say “thank you” Barack Hussein Obama!
