Why Pro Life?

Every year, over a million babies are aborted in the United States. These children are not just an unwanted collection of cells growing in the mother. They are the collective culmination of generations going back countless centuries. Each child has the genetic makeup of the parents, as well as uncles, aunts, grandparents, great-grandparents and on and on.

Each child has recognizable features like eyes, ears, hair and personality traits of those who came before him or her.

The mother is aborting her family tree. Bits of a dear departed grandmother, a favorite uncle, or a cousin are all in the DNA of this unique individual.

And what might have that tiny life have become, if he were allowed to live? What discoveries will the world never know?

And what will the soul of the aborted child think and see? A mother’s regret in later life? Or sooner?

Only God will know these children taken from the earth before they even had a chance.

I wrote this song and recorded it in my home “studio”. I will admit the words were hard to sing without getting choked up. A lot of emotion went into writing this.

I hope the Video and the music somehow conveys the sense of loss I feel for the millions of children our society throws away before they are even born.

I did see the media reports about Ron Paul has suspended his campaign etc.  NOT TRUE!  Here’s what the email says:

Our campaign will continue to work in the state convention process.  We will continue to take leadership positions, win delegates, and carry a strong message to the Republican National Convention that Liberty is the way of the future.

Moving forward, however, we will no longer spend resources campaigning in primaries in states that have not yet voted.  Doing so with any hope of success would take many tens of millions of dollars we simply do not have.  I encourage all supporters of Liberty to make sure you get to the polls and make your voices heard, particularly in the local, state, and Congressional elections, where so many defenders of Freedom are fighting and need your support.

I hope all supporters of Liberty will remain deeply involved – become delegates, win office, and take leadership positions.  I will be right there with you.  In the coming days, my campaign leadership will lay out to you our delegate strategy and what you can do to help, so please stay tuned.

So, let’s keep fighting, especially in Virginia.  Ron Paul didn’t quit on us; let’s not quit on him.

Prague declaration on Pirate Party Europe ratifiedAmong the internationally significant decisions of the weekend was PP-DE’s ratification of the Prague declaration authored by pirates from all over the Europe at the Pirate Parties International Conference two weeks earlier. The signatories agree to include a common election program in their platforms for the EP elections in 2014, to coordinate their campaigns, and to establish a Pirate Party of Europe. The ratification was welcomed by guests from international Pirate Parties that attended the assembly. Board member Julia Schramm has made it her goal to help facilitate broad transnational participation in writing the common election program.  (emphasis mine)

Led by Joachim PAUL, the Pirate Party, the somewhat libertarian German Pirate Party won 7.6% of the vote in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s California!

The Pirates were dancing in the streets in a graffiti-smeared neighborhood near the central station as hundreds of the party’s young, laptop-toting followers crowded into a local disco called Zakk to dance the night away.

Joachim Paul, captain of the crew and a biochemical engineer turned politician, took the stage and fired up the crowd, shouting into a sea of trademark orange Pirate flags: “The Pirates in North Rhine-Westphalia are in the state parliament! Tomorrow it’s on to the federal parliament!”

Watch out Tweedledee and Tweedledum, the people might have choices!  At least a decent victory party!

This report has exit polling showing that the German Pirate Party won 7.5% of the vote in the largest state of Germany, North Rhine Westphalia!

Unlike the City State of Berlin, and small states like the Saarland and Schweizig-Holstein, this is a major win for the new liberty party in Germany.

The reporter here has five reasons for the rise of the Pirate Party.  Here’s number four:

The fourth reason is the Piratenpartei‘s early broadening of the party platform. In Sweden, we learned the hard way in 2010 that not enough people will vote a party with a narrow platform to the general parliament. The European parliament was fine, but not the Swedish one. While we were busy running an election campaign, the German pirate party were busy discussing if – and if so, how – their program should be broadened. This was rewarded with 15 seats in the Berlin parliament, which leads me to…

I wish to add a sixth one:  The Pirates are not Tweedledee nor Tweedledum and they will have to at some point take on the EU, its elites and the empire.  When that happens, watch out!  Liberty is on the march.  Remember, “…where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty.”  (II Corinthians 3:17 [KJV])

I contacted the NEW THIRD District GOP CHAIRMAN, J. Christopher Stearns, who confirmed the following numbers (as well as his own election!):

CD 1:  2/3 national delegates, sweep of state central committee (3/3)

CD 2:  2/3 national delegates, another SWEEP of state central committee (3/3)

CD 3:  3/3 national delegates, STILL ANOTHER SWEEP of state central committee!  (3/3)

(Our national curling team could use sweepers like this!)

CD 7:  0/3 national delegates, 0/3 state central.

CD 8:   3/3 national delegates and 3/3 state central.

I have not confirmed the other districts as far as RP delegates or state central but just these numbers will reshape the future of the Grand Ol’ Party in the Old Dominion.  It means libertarians will have a seat at the table with the state party.  I am a delegate to that convention and I plan (Lord willing) to be there for that.  Maybe a live blog…

UPDATE:  The new RP members of state central might get to decide the biggest question of 2013:  How is the fight between Lt. Governor Bolling and Attorney General Cuccinelli (Note:  I have endorsed Cuccinelli) for Governor:  Primary or Convention?  Convention is cheaper but also favors Cuccinelli.  Here’s a Virginian-Pilot article on this question.

The groundwork for that possible shift, which could limit broader access to the nomination process, is being laid now even as a fight for party control builds ahead of a likely gubernatorial matchup between Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling and Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.

Behind it is a roster of Ron Paul loyalists, Cuccinelli supporters, tea partyers and other factions – what one activist called a “perfect storm of odd alliances within the Republican Party.”

They’ve been quietly working to put like-minded people in seats on regional Republican panels that come with votes on the Virginia GOP’s governing body, the State Central Committee.

It is safe to say the staid, steeped in convention (pun intended) Virginia GOP is due for a big change.  I think it is a positive change.  Let’s invite and welcome liberty candidates into the GOP!

Say it ain’t so!

The word I am getting is that Republicans in Richmond have made a deal with the devil – in this case Senator Donald McEachin – to allow a gay activist who wants to promote the radical gay agenda and will have no problem legislating from the bench – to a Virginia Court.

The Democrats have only two potential weapons since they lost last November and are now facing a tie in the Senate. They can hold up the budget process as thy already have, and they can hold up the appointment of judges. The Lt. Governor Bill Bolling is unable to cast a tie-breaking vote in either instance.

We have been unable to get the full details on this “deal” but it looks like Republicans are prepared to sell out Virginia’s family values. Who knows what they may be receiving in exchange, but it is not worth the price of appointing a radical homosexual to the bench.

We need good, strong judges who know and follow the Virginia Constitution as well as the US Constitution.

Victoria Cobb of the Family Foundation said:

It has come to our attention that one of the individuals that will be voted on by the General Assembly Monday as a nominee for a judgeship, Tracy Thorne-Begland, has a long history of political activism, has been at the forefront of repealing the federal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” (DADT) policy and once served as a Board Member and Vice Chairman for Equality Virginia, the Commonwealth’s largest and most influential homosexual activism group.  In fact, this nominee for Richmond’s 13th General District Court was with President Obama when he signed the repeal of DADT. Additionally, Mr. Thorne-Begland has lashed out, publicly, against Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli on a host of issues related to the homosexual agenda, saying, “He’s already stood in the way” in relation to Cuccinelli’s urging of public colleges and universities to follow state law when it comes to non-discrimination policies. Thorne-Begland also criticized Cuccinelli for being “against hate crime laws” and “employment discrimination” protections based on sexual behavior.

One statement he made in 2004 in particular stands out.  In an interview with Richmond Magazine, Thorne-Begland said, “In Virginia, we’re seeing a different situation. The situation is so hostile to gay and lesbian interests, particularly the judicial system, a lot of gay and lesbians choose to leave.”  It’s the “particularly the judicial system” statement that is especially concerning.  Does he plan to use his position as a judge to accomplish his political agenda?

In 2004, Mr. Thorne-Begland was asked his opinion of the Marriage Affirmation Act, a law that was the model for Virginia’s marriage amendment, and Virginia’s climate toward homosexuals.  Mr. Thorne-Begland signaled his optimism and said, “Perfect example:  Virginia is the only state in the union that allows businesses to decide whether they can offer health care to gays and lesbians. When progressive representatives in the legislature sought to require businesses to extend domestic-partner benefits, laws are adopted that outright coerce Virginians to accept this way of thinking.”  Mr. Thorne-Begland’s thoughts regarding the use of coercion to change minds and force private businesses to follow his agenda flies directly in the face of free market political principles.

Delegate Bob Marshall added:

MARSHALL SEEKS TO REMOVE HOMOSEXUAL ADVOCATE FROM JUDGESHIP LIST

Legislator Cites Nominee’s Long History as ‘Aggressive Activist for Pro-Homosexual Agenda’

Manassas, May 12 – Delegate Bob Marshall said today that he will seek to remove the name of a homosexual activist from a list of proposed District Court judicial appointments if the name remains on the list when it comes to a vote Monday in the Virginia General Assembly.

The judgeship nominee is Tracy Thorne-Begland, a Richmond attorney identified by Marshall (R., Manassas) as “an aggressive activist for the pro-homosexual agenda.”

“After more than a week of pleading by some Republican Caucus members,” Marshall said, “the House Republican leadership has so far declined to removed Mr. Thorne-Begland’s name from the block of nominees,” Marshall said.  “If this situation remains unchanged, I will offer an amendment to remove his name.”

Marshall questioned whether Thorne-Begland can swear to the oath required of Virginia’s judges in which they pledge to abide by the state’s constitution “if he has already indicated by his past public actions that he does not support its provision ‘that only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivision.’”

Thorne-Begland lives with a ‘partner” with whom he has a formalized homosexual union, Marshall said, and they have two adopted children.  Thorne-Begland has been active in the national homosexual advocacy group, Human Rights Campaign, and with Equality Virginia, of which he is a former board member.

Marshall pointed out that Thorne-Begland was serving as a Navy aviation lieutenant in 1992 when he went on national television to disclose his homosexuality, then was discharged under the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military regulation on homosexuality then in force.  Thorne-Begland sued the Defense Department, alleging that his right to free speech had been restricted, but he lost the case on appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit in Richmond.

“Mr. Throne-Begland joined the Navy under clear rules on homosexuality that he challenged when he sued the Department of Defense to change DADT,” Marshall said.

“Would Mr. Thorne-Begland also challenge rules that apply to Virginia courts?  Can this candidate swear the required oath to support our state’ constitution if he has already indicated by his past actions that he does not support that section of our constitution barring same-sex legal relationships?

“While our judges and judicial candidates certainly have a right to free speech, they do not have the right to disregard the Virginia constitution”

Once again, Bishop E.W. Jackson came away from a Virginia Republican US Senate debate as the winner. His overall performance was perhaps a bit less stellar than the Roanoke Debate, but that was most likely a function of the questions asked, which were so similar that it was not easy to answer without repeating yourself. But Jackson’s closing hit the ball out of the park as you can see in the video below. Jackson’s oratory skills and ability to connect with the audience are an amazing gift, but the substance of his remarks are substantial as is his understanding of the problems facing America today.

George Allen turned in a solid performance with his focus on a positive message and clear understanding that defeating Tim Kaine is the ultimate goal of the Republican Party. As the front runner in this contest for the Republican nomination and the right to run against Democrat Tim Kaine, a steady and solid performance was what Allen needed and exactly what he delivered. Allen proved he has his hand on the pulse of Virginia and understands what the Federal Government is doing to our country and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Bob Marshall is undoubtedly the most knowledgeable of the minute details of an amazing number of bills and has been an effective legislator with enough foresight to pen the right bill at the right time to position Virginia in a way that makes federal intrusion into the Commonwealth fare more difficult on anything from ObamaCare to illegal immigration. The average voter, however, may fail to comprehend Bob Marshall and appreciate his technical prowess and “wonkish”  understanding of the art of governance. Still, for fans and supporters of Bob Marshall, his performance at the debate was solid and he did nothing to hurt his campaign.

The big (and only loser) of the evening was Jamie Radtke. She spent nearly one forth of her time, not answering the questions posed, but instead, attacking George Allen over and over again in one of the most embarrassing and shameful instances of vitriolic and mean-spirited hatred I have witnessed in public. Radtke removed all doubt to anyone not sure before now that she has become the far right fringe of politics most voters would not touch with a ten foot pole. When the attacks began, which was in Radtke’s opening remarks, the audience groaned. But as they continued on and on ad nauseam all but a small cluster of her supporters sat in disbelief at what became a complete breakdown of acceptable behavior within thr Republican Party.

The most bizarre and irrational comment was Radtke’s statement blaming George Allen for ObamaCare because he lost the Senate seat in 2006.

In the writeup of the Roanoke debate a couple of weeks ago I wrote “ If this is the first time someone heard Radtke speak, they might have come away with the perception that she was not as “at ease” with the group and somewhat humorless, which is a complete misconception.”

After this performance, it seems that may not have been accurate. Perhaps a year and a half of full time campaigning and only managing to poll in the low single digits has pushed Radtke over the edge. But she is no longer the calm, rational person I met several years ago who was adamant on keeping the shrill attacks of the far right fringe out of the Richmond TEA Party in order to maintain the credibility of the movement. Radtke has become that fringe element.

The Jamie Radtke I knew when she was the head of the Richmond TEA Party would not even allow the Jamie Radtke that showed up in Virginia Beach to even speak at a RTP event.

It is expected that candidates in Primary battles will disagree with their fellow candidates on issues. It is also expected that Republicans point out these differences in a civil manner. While it became apparent a good while back that Radtke was not going to be able to unite those who preferred someone other than George Allen behind her candidacy, the honorable thing to do would have been to bow out. This “scorched earth” policy and her abhorrent behavior has not only failed to rally anyone to her cause, it has probably eliminated her from this any future run for political office at any level.

None of the candidates deserve the disrespectful treatment Radtke spewed in this debate. All are deserving of respect and Republican voters are sure to drive that message home on June 12.

At least Radtke has done one thing. She has narrowed the choices down to two for those not favoring Allen – Jackson and Marshall. The last thing Virginia Republicans want in Washington is an angry, bitter person unable to win people over with their ideas who feels the need to attack and blame others. We already have enough of that coming from the White House.

A lot of us had high hopes for Radtke and her campaign when she began. Now, she simply scares the hell out of most people. And before the Virginia Beach debate, there was a lot of concern that Radtke was only going to (intentionally) damage Allen and his chances to defeat Tim Kaine. After the debate, most realize that the exuberant “Tweets” from the Kaine campaign echoing every disparaging remark she made about Allen will do them no good in November as Radtke has completely marginalized herself as a fringe, far right candidate with an inexplicable grudge against Allen.

Radtke has expressed bewilderment that the TEA Party has not united behind her. But she has moved so far “out there” that she scares the hell out of them, too.

Radtke began her opening remarks by saying the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Her irrational attacks have not convinced Republicans that they should hire her to represent the party according to poll data.

Perhaps she should have taken her own advice as far as the attacks. She has attacked Allen over and over, yet her poll numbers continue to lag.

Kudos to Bishop Jackson for his efforts on behalf of Republicans to keep this process civil.

The first two questions were dealing with helping small businesses grow and thrive.

Jackson wants to get government out  of the way of businesses.

Allen has worked in small businesses and with them. He echoed the statements of Jackson about the regulations and red tape from local, state and federal government. Allen criticized Tim Kaine on his record of thwarting small businesses.

Marshall enumerated several bills he authored that helped protect small businesses avoid unnecessary regulation.

Radtke worked in small businesses and is a Mom. “We need a Mom in Washington.” She again attacked Allen and there was a moan from the audience. She accused Allen of taking money from Freddie and Fannie.

Next question – what can be done to save Social Security?

Radtke again attacks Allen for Fannie and Freddie and called him out for not answering the question she posed on the mortgage giants. However, the forum is not set up for that and Allen answered the question posed.

On the question of saving Medicare and Social Security, Jackson is the only candidate to urge the repeal of Obamacare. Jackson wants to cut the federal budget with an ax.

Next Question – Spending.

Marshall said we need a balanced budget. He would amend appropriations bills to force a vote on tying spending to revenue sources. He would hold the Senate accountable.

Radtke – we need to focus on spending. All revenue will be used to service the debt and pay entitlements. She spoke about her “My 2 Cents” plan.

Jackson said he respects his fellow candidates too much to attack them (an obvious jab at Radtke to stop the attacks.) He said that government has exceeded it’s authority to spend what they are spending.

Allen mentioned his time in the Senate and the attacks on 9/11. (He is obviously answering Radtke here.) He wants a balanced budget with line item veto. Spending the last 3 years has been out of control. National Defense a priority.

Next Question – College tuition processes out of control.

Radtke – we need to get the federal government out of education. Attacks Allen for spending. Accuses him of wasteful spending and dodging. Accused Allen of dodging.

Jackson – When government gets involved, prices go up. Get the feds out of Virginia’s business and enforce the 10th amendment. He worked his way through college.

Allen – agrees with Jackson. Constraints – line item veto – pay check reduction for Congress if they don’t do a budget. Tuition freeze. Trade schools.

Marshall paid his own way. Make the parents responsible for the student loans. He criticizes Radtke’s “My 2 Cents” and says it won’t work without tax increases. No easy way out.

Next Question – Businesses want to provide Health Care. Wants a small business shared risk pool.

Jackson – We need to allow businesses to have the freedom to aggregate health care leverage and get the government out of the way.

Allen – Repeal ObamaCare. Use Health Savings Accounts instead. Allows patients to know the prices – which will force prices down. Groups should be allowed across state lines.

Marshall – Has introduced legislation to buy insurance across state lines. Stop illegal aliens from coming into the US.  Medical ethics.

Radtke – Has a $5,000 deductible. We need competition, not government control. HSA’s. Attacks Allen for losing in 2006 and running a bad campaign that allowed Democrats to win in 2006.

Next Question – Defense Cuts are a problem. How can we fix it?

Allen – No certainty on taxes, military spending and staffing and the cuts will devastate the military. We need a Republican president and Senate. Defense is the top job of the government. Get EPA out of the way and don’t cut Veteran benefits.

Marshall – Saw programs that were implemented only to provide jobs. Waste of money – we need to be smart with our defense dollars.

Radtke – grew up in a military family. Knows the sacrifice. Congress top priority is defense. Stop nation building. Stop getting into wars. Stop borrowing money from China.

Jackson – the only Veteran – USMC. He hates to see Veterans challenged on their benefits. Vets deserve every bit of our support.

Closing Statements:

Marshall – Attacks Allen on building an interchange with tax money and attacks Kaine on stimulus money. Never betrayed his oath. Will annoy Liberals in DC as much as he has in Richmond.

Allen – Optimistic. Freedoms are at risk from Federal high tax and high spending by Liberals. We must unleash our free enterprise system without government intervention. Use oil and gas off shore. No health care rationing. No forced unions.

Jackson – Cautions colleagues – WE CANNOT TEAR EACH OTHER APART. One of us must go up against Tim Kaine. Who is suited for the moment at hand? Who can reach blacks and Hispanics? Who can tell them we care? We muse beat Kaine and Obama. They drank Kool-Aid – he did not. Jackson got a standing ovation.

Radtke – Insanity – doing the same thing over and over again. As a Mom knows what it is like to see the government come into your home. Career politicians are destroying the nation. This is about saving people from Washington. We need to restore trust in the government.
