The group FAIRGRADE says the county's grading scale  puts  Fairfax students at a disadvantage...especially when applying to colleges. 

The group compared Fairfax County's scale to the rest of the NATION as well as to adjacent counties such as Loudoun, &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

Horan, Jr. Tuesday, January 29th.

Master of Ceremonies Rodney Leffler said Horan gave Fairfax County citizens "40 years of unquestionable, unwavering service."

Horan says his guiding principle has always been a "duty to the truth."

Almost. On Wednesday, January 23, a key Senate committee approved a measure to end Virginia's unpopular fees. The day before, the House of Delegates approved its own repeal of the fees.

Virginia Lawmaker are practically tripping over each other's 'Repeal of the Hated Abusive Driver Fees". It seems everybody's got their own bill to do it. The only lawmaker I've talked to who still praises the program is Delegate Dave Albo, who authored the bill. He thinks the fees should stay but be fixed and apply to out-of-staters as well and also only apply to the worst&lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

Governor Tim Kaine proposed a statewide smoking ban in restaurants Monday to protect the health of patrons and workers.

Virginia, isn't it about time? Is it really fair for those of us who don't want to be exposed to smoke, or want our children to be exposed, to have to walk through clouds of smoke next to &lt;div class="feedflare"&gt;

Purple Heart From President Bush. 


That's my brother-in-law, U.S. Army Captain Pat Horan getting a visit from President Bush. Patrick has a brain injury after getting shot in the head in Baghdad back in July. He received his new prosthetic skull in a surgery at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda December 14th.

Smoke-Free Mall in NOVA? We Wish.
Even in the shopping malls that claim to be smoke-free, they often are not because some of the restaurants inside the mall allow smoking.  Take Tysons Corner Center.  The mall is smoke free, but most of the restaurants have smoking areas, and they tend to be toward the large mall walkways. The Hunter Mill District  Coat Closet will be accepting coat donations for adults and children at the North County Governmental Center, 12000 Bowman Towne Drive, Reston, on the following days through March 15:

Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m.

Election night, November 6, I was sent to cover the Fairfax County Republican party. Ever since I asked Senator George Allen about his Jewish background, some Republicans have been a bit frosty to me.
