Why I going back to (e)school It’s that time. Normally for many, self-improvement is brought on by a new year. I’ve never tried to limit myself to a date or a time of the year; but as it so happens, the beginning of 2017 is calling for brushing up and learning new skills and programs. I’ve got a list.. it started with digital analytics and it’s growing. Part of what brings this on is businesses of all types and sizes have been forced to have a digital presence and grow with technology or, if resistant, they might be tasting the dust of being in the back of the pack. It’s a tough challenge to face. Before, the challenge might have been to simply create an online presence. Now, that’s not enough. You’ve got to use new tools like Google Analytics and/or Google Tag Manager (to name just 2) to make sure your website is working for you and driving business. Outside of that, businesses now have to market themselves digitally… Thank goodness for Virtual Assistants. So, as the world of internet presence is changing, I’m trying to adapt and keep on game so that my clients don’t have to ask themselves ‘where do I start?’ and instead it’s something a little more positive like ‘I’ll let Meg handle this’. Focusing on Analytics I’m still improving my skills in CSS code and trying to debate which field is next.. JavaScript perhaps? But that’s not all. And as you can see, I’m advancing in digital analytics specifically with focus on Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager. The course is under way, my brain is swelling with the information and I’m chomping at the bit to put in practice all this good stuff! Thankfully, I am able to implement some of this right away on my existing work. I’m a use it or lose it type person. My question to you is, are you currently ‘back in school’ and if so, what are you working on?

My mother is at loss at times to describe what I do as Virtual Collaborative. Her easiest way to explain it: Girl Friday. I’ve always imagined this to be a cute expression developed somewhere in the 50’s or 60’s for a woman who could do anything for an employer. Well, I was close.. kind of. I did a little searching. As it turns out, Girl Friday is an idiom taken from Man Friday. As it turns out Man Friday is a fictional character from the Robinson Crusoe novel. Friday was Crusoes faithful servant. And so the idiom is born. But how did it go from a male to a female and become so well known? For that we can thank the popular 1940 movie His Girl Friday and the dashing good looks of Cary Grant. I like both definitions personally and feel they are both fitting. I’m elated to have both definitions applied to my career. So who am I? I’m a Girl Friday. Thank you Mom
