Kini manusia bisa melihat seluruh Matahari dari depan dan belakang secara bersamaan, sehingga memungkinkan kemajuan yang signifikan dalam meramal cuaca untuk Bumi.

Pandangan pertama kalinya Matahari dalam 3-D telah ditangkap oleh pesawat luar angkasa (spacecraft) NASA.

Dua buah pesawat ruang angkasa Solar TErrestrial Relations Observatory (STEREO) yang berada pada sisi diametris berlawanan dari Matahari yang terpisah 180 derajat telah menghasilkan pandangan yang paling lengkap dari Matahari.

Salah satunya adalah dari depan Bumi dalam orbitnya dengan yang lain mengikuti di belakangnya.

NASA sendiri memilih waktu yang tepat untuk melepaskan gambar ini, sama dengan hari Super-Sunday di Amerika dengan Greenbay Packers mengambil moment di Pittsburgh Steelers pada Super Bowl.

Dengan melihat seluruh Matahari dari depan dan belakang secara bersamaan akan memungkinkan kemajuan yang signifikan dalam ruang peramalan cuaca untuk Bumi, dan meningkatkan perencanaan untuk masa depan misi pesawat ruang angkasa, robot atau mengelilingi seluruh tata surya.

Diluncurkan sejak Oktober 2006 lalu, STEREO merekam jejak aliran energi dan materi dari Matahari ke Bumi.

Hal ini juga menyediakan pemandangan unik dan revolusioner dari sistem Matahari-Bumi. Misi mengamati Matahari dalam 3-D untuk pertama kalinya dilakukan pada tahun 2007.

Kenapa Amerika dijuluki sebagai negara “Paman Sam” (Uncle Sam) ?. Begini ceritanya, dahulu ada orang bernama Samuel Wilson. Ia dilahirkan di Arlington, tanggal 13 September 1766. Pada usia 14 tahun, ia menjadi sukarelawan pejuang bagi negaranya. Setelah dewasa, ia membuka usaha kemasan daging di New York. Ia menyuplai bertong-tong daging bagi tentara AS dalam Perang 1812.

Pada tahun 1812 jumlah barang untuk tentara dibeli di Troy, NY, oleh Elbert Anderson, seorang kontraktor pemerintah. Barang diperiksa oleh dua bersaudara, Ebenezer dan Samuel Wilson. Samuel Wilson sering dipanggil “Uncle Sam” oleh temannya. Wilson wafat di usia 88 tahun pada 1854 dan dimakamkan di Pemakaman Oakwood di Troy, New York. Kota itu mendapat sebutan ‘Rumah Paman Sam.’ Akhirnya , nama Paman Sam secara resmi dipakai untuk julukan negara Amerika. Pria bernama lengkap Jules Gabriel Verne ini lahir 8 Februari 1828 dan wafat 24 Maret 1905 di usia 77 tahun.

Banyak novel fiksi ilmiahnya yang mengilhami sejumlah penemuan penting abad ini, seperti 'A Journey to the Centre of the Earth', 'Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea', 'Around the World in Eighty Days', 'From the Earth to the Moon' dan 'The Mysterious Island'.

Present day fuel sources are adding drastic measures of pollution to our planet on a daily basis. All sources of renewable energy are carbon free and one hundred percent clean. Think what that would mean to the thousands of people who suffer from respiratory illnesses caused by the emissions of today's power plants. No more pollution of air, land, or seas by smog or oil spills. Animal life would abound in this new environment.
Most importantly is that all of these renewable sources come to us absolutely free of charge. The equipment to harness these sources will allow homes and businesses never before known savings. Just in the past few years alone the cost of heating, cooling, and lighting our homes has reached a new high. People all over the world are beginning to realize our option of living in harmony with the world. Facebook CTO Bret Taylor says buying servers was a mistake. A very big mistake. At the time, he was chief executive at FriendFeed, which eventually was sold to Facebook for the tidy sum of a reported $50 million. But these were the early days. He and his team needed to decide between buying servers or using Amazon Web Services. They bought the servers.
In an interview with the BBC, Taylor said that it became work in itself to keep the servers optimized and working:

I think that was a big mistake in retrospect. The reason for that is despite the fact it cost much less in terms of dollars spent to purchase our own, it meant we had to maintain them ourselves, and there were times where I'd have to wake up in the middle of the night and drive down to a data centre to fix a problem.

Friendfeed is still around, now under Facebook's control. Funny, when you think about it, Facebook is now building data centers of its own. It is buying a lot of servers. At least, though, Taylor now has a team of dozens who keep the platform running so he is not making any more lonely trips in the early morning hours to a humming room full of servers.
