Another fantastic annual-event in Bali: Pesta Kesenian Bali XXXI 2009 held in June 13 until July 11, 2009. The event is officially opened by President Susilo Bambang Yudoyono this evening at Taman Budaya Denpasar, Bali.

There are 180 performances from 14,000 artists not only Balineses but also artists from United State, Taiwan, Japan and Thailand. And there are also artist representatives from Jakarta, East Java, West Sumatra, Jogjakarta, West Lombok and other provinces.

Hopping Islands Adventure

If you bored with Jakarta and you only have a short vacation schedule, probably Bandung City or Bogor City or Puncak will be your straight destination. But Bandung and Bogor usually have a heavy traffic jam, Puncak is "an everyone destination". What? Bali? mmhhh, too expensive and need more than two or three or seven days vacation. So, where else?

My friend Shasa Sigit ask you guys to join her to visit and hopping to several island in Thousand Island area. Bira Besar Is., Bira Kecil Is., Opak Is., kotok Is., Semut Is., Lumba-Lumba Is., Bintang Is., Kelapa Is., Karbok Is., Pasir Putih Is. and many more.

Main activities in this trip are: snorkeling, fishing, sun bathing, sea side BBQ and even swimming with dolphins. Don't forget to enjoy sunrise and sunset from fisherman boat or from your cottage.

International Yoga Festival 2009

Bali is to host a one-week International Yoga Festival from March 3-10, 2009, Bali-India Foundation chairman Dr Somvir said.

He said the festival would involve hundreds of yoga instructors from various countries around the world.

"Themed Yoga for Peace and Health, such an international activity will be a follow up of Yoga Day program which has been intensified in the past two years," Somvir said.

He added that the whole series of activity would be held around Monument Perjuangan Rakyat Bali (Bali People,s Struggle Monument) a Niti Mandala Renon area in Denpasar.

Somvir said that during the one-week activity, the yoga instructors would actively give yoga courses which were good for health.

The yoga exercises are open to participants from other religious group who would like to maintain their health condition and to heal various diseases they suffer from through the exercises.

"During the festival, the yoga instructors from foreign countries will instruct and train the participants with patience," Somvir said, adding that the participants and instructors from other countries would also hold a series of meeting to discuss various matters related to yoga, worldwide development, and exchange information about the exercise.

As I mentioned on my Facebook Notes, Bandung will always be my beloved hometown. I live in Bandung for about 25 years. I wasn't born in Bandung but lived and grew up there. Currently, Bandung is a bit different in detail compare to 9 years ago since I moved to Jakarta. I hope Local Government can make Bandung more comfortable, because Bandung will always be a hotspot for local tourism.

I never met Mahanagari, I only knew him from his product (actually I kinda like the Angkot T Shirt, I have two of them: Caringin-Sadang Serang and Dago-Gede Bage). I also find him in Facebook and join his group, and finally found his official website. An established website, not an ordinary one.

There are a lot of websites mention about Bandung, specially when you're searching tourism around Bandung and also oleh-oleh from Bandung. Mahanagari website concentrate on his own products and also tourism packages. I believe the product and the package are unique, so Mahanagari.

There are two tourism package currently running by him. One is the tour package to Gua Pawon (Kitchen Cave), a cave with 25 million year age. For those of you have interest in Geology or Earth History, this package will make you more understand about History of Bandung. The other one is Water Package, Tour to Pangalengan (Southern Bandung). Walking around the tea plant and also will be continue with rafting in Palayangan River.

I'm a person who love traveling and adventouring, so these two package can be a good start to explore Bandung in a different way. No Factory Outlet, please... : )

PS: It will be better if the website also has an english version since the title is "Bandung is Home"

After a full month of fasting, moslems around the world (including those who live in Indonesia) will celebrate Idul Fitri. We will celebrate our triumph on October 1 & 2, 2008. In Indonesia there is a special tradition to celebrate that day. Every moslem will try their best to go home, to celebrate Idul Fitri with family. People who work in Jakarta will go home to their hometown. I'm working in Jakarta (and live in Tangerang, about 15km to the east) and will go to Bandung on October 2, 2008. I will celebrate Idul Fitri with my father, my mother and my whole family who still live in Bandung. It's a reunion, a special occasion to appologize to every one we know.

Anyway, this Idul Fitri celebration will not disturb other events regarding Visit Indonesia Year program. There are still many events will be held in Jakarta and other islands, specially in Bali. yes, Bali...!

Based on the personal experience of Desak Suarti, a silver craftman from Bali.

Once Suarti sell her silvers to one of the customer outside Indonesia. Dunno exactly the reason, but then this person tried to claim to the world that the silver design was his/hers. Well, if you're an Indonesia, remember the Sipadan-Ligitan Gate...? Batik Gate...? And probably hundred of another culture gates between Indonesia and other countries.

People from Bali try to ask the Government to pay attention to these kind of culture problems. In a similar way, one website was built to support this effort:

September is a Ramadhan fasting month here in Indonesia, but that will not stop people to run tourism events.

1. Indonesia Agriculture Expo 2008. National Botanical Park, Jababeka, Cikarang, West Java. September 2008. An international agribusiness exhibition which is held in an area of 30Ha. The area consist of convention, national & international pavillion and indoor & outdoor expo. This event will lasted for one month & to be participated by 37 countries. This will be the most prestigious agriculture expo held in Indonesia for prospective buyers, clients and investors agriculture worldwide.

2. Madura Bull Races. Madura, East Java. September-October 2008. This is a very popular sport is held regularly at least twice a month at Bangkalan, Madura Island, an hour by Ferry from Surabaya, Capital City of West Java. Bull Racing is a big event held by the local administration after the harvest time in September & October. The Final Round will be held in Pamekasan, the Capital City of Madura Island once a year.

3. Indonesia Tourism Travel & Tourism Fair 2008. Jakarta. September 2008.

4. Nusa Dua Fiesta 2008. Bali. September (or October...?) 2008.

It's about Indonesia's Independence Day Celebration in my neighborhood. Well, better late than never...hehehe...

We had Panjat Pinang and they said it was broadcasted by Trans TV, dunno for sure since I had diarrhea that day. That's why I canceled my plan to go to Festival Jajanan Bango in Senayan, near my office building.

In my neighborhood, we had small parties, unique futsal game, children & adult games, kids fun bike, gaple tournament and more. I bet you guys will never ever find events like these in your countries : ).

It's Indonesia, my beloved country.

What will we do with those louging gown...? Bwihihihi...yup, we're playing futsal wearing it. Tried to be focus on the ball and our teammates, not to the gown :p.

My one year old son, running in front of the kids bike parade. He's so happy, running around on the pitch. My daughter is in the background, wearing white clothes next to the red boy with red hat.
We call it "bawa kelereng pake sendok", these kids put the marble on the spoon and walking to the finish line. My daughter is in the middle of the picture wearing Superman T-Shirt.
"Lomba Makan Kerupuk", the popular competition in the country. Kids, young people, adults, husbands, wive, everyone are invited to participate.

Another festival from Solok Tourism Board, West Sumatra.

Solok Regency, West Sumatra will held Festival Danau Singkarak & Danau Kembar (Singkarak Lake & Twin Lake Festival) on August 23-27, 2008. This event will be opened by Minister of Tourism & Culture: Mr Jero Wacik.

As part of "Visit Indonesia Year 2008" program, Festival Danau Singkarak & Danau Kembar aim to re-discover the nature & wildness of the tourism spots in West Sumatra and also to rise the traditional culture. Traditional children plays and more games will also be performed such as West Sumatra Traditional Kite Festival Festival, West Sumatra Tradional Pacu Biduk, Chicken Kukuek Balenggek Competition, Uda-Uni Election, Food Competition, Bazaar, Paralayang Exhibition and Solok Regency Tourism Photography Competition (July 28- August 23, 2008).

Be ready to receive special gifts from Kecap Bango. In order to celebrate 80th birthday, Kecap Bango will held Festival Jajanan Bango 2008. This event will be held at Plasa Selatan Senayan Jakarta (next to Softball Pitch & Senayan Driving Range, across the Niaga Building).

1. Friday, August 8 2008: 4pm-11pm
2. Saturday, August 9 2008: 11am-11pm

Some of the famous culinaries that I recognise (and will be there at the festival) are: Ketroprak Ciragil, Sate Kambing Pondok Sate Pejompongan, Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih and Sate Padang Pariaman Gandaria.

Seren Taun 2008, Kasepuhan Adat Ciptagelar Banten Kidul

Seren taun is the Sundanese annual traditional ceremony of padi's planting, the major event from the several ceremonies. Before people held Seren Taun, they have to held the Ngaseuk (planting), Mipit (harvest), Nutu (beetle), Nganyaran (consuming the first padi), Ponggokan (annual report) and the last one: Seren Taun.

Where will be held...?
Kampung Adat Ciptagelar, Desa Sirnaresmi, Kecamatan Cisolok, Kabupaten Sukabumi, West Java.

When...?
August 1,2 and 3 2008

The major part of the Seren Taun is loading the "Pare Indung" (padi's seed) into the Lumbung (granary) Komunal "Leuit Si Jimat".

This event will also held many traditional Kasepuhan cultures such as Jipeng (musical instrument), Topeng (mask), Wayang Golek, Ujungan & Debus (martial arts), Pantun Buhun (ancient traditional poetry), Angklung-Dogdog Lojor, Pencak Silat, Gondang and more.

How can I get there...?
From east: Parung Kuda area by off road vehicle
From south: Pelabuhan Ratu area by motorcycle or car
From west: Sirnaresmi, Cicadas, Banten, Lebak, Cikotok, Cisungsang by off road vehicle

Accomodation...?
You have to report your present at the front gate in Kampung Ciptarasa & Bojong or at the Main Information Office in Ciptagelar. Then your accomodation will be arranged by the official.

Food...?
For those of you who'll stay at Imah Gede, you will get your meal three times a day and you have to pay Rp 30,000 (around US$ 3.5) to Mak Wok/Mak Asti/Wa Miah).
