Plesk passwords reset

Due to a Remote vulnerability in Plesk Panel, as a security precaution, we have reset the following passwords on our server:

Plesk "admin" user
Plesk "client and domain" users
Plesk "subscription" and "customer" users

If you have one of these password types, you will need to contact us to get your new password.

We strongly advise resetting your Plesk email and database passwords as well. Under no circumstances should you re-use any of your previous passwords.

Network issue yesterday

Web and email services were interrupted on Tuesday 19 April due to a service provider domain name server problem. The network is back to normal now and measures are being put in place to prevent this happening again.

We have increased the capacity of our main server. Customers using that server do not need to make any changes and there is no down time. They may notice an improvement in speed.

Updating TYPO3 websites to latest version

We are in the process of updating all of our TYPO3 websites to the latest version. This is to fix potential security problems and keep the core TYPO3 software up to date.

You might notice some new features and a change in the TYPO3 Back End interface, but the Front End (what your website visitors see) should be the same.

If you experience any problems or if you need training to use the new features, please contact us.

Also, please let us know if you need to add more people as editors, update the design of your website, or if you want to add new features.

Some Google services blocked in Turkey

Turkish ISPs are blocking access to many Google services including the Vista Interactive Support blog (hosted on Google's Blogger service) due to an ongoing issue with a ban on YouTube.

CyberLaw has several articles about this situation and the legal action being taken.

It is possible to bypass the blockage by using a proxy server or secure tunnel.

Scam/Phishing emails

A new series of malicious emails are hitting inboxes. They claim to come from your domain name and might look like this:

From: "your domain name support" your domain name>
Subject: your domain name account notification

Dear Customer,

This e-mail was send by vista-interactive.com to notify you that we have temporanly prevented access to your account.

We have reasons to beleive that your account may have been accessed by someone else. Please run attached file and Follow instructions.

Notice the spelling errors and poor grammar - usually an indication of a junk message. If you get a message like this, DO NOT follow the instructions or open any attachment. It may contains a virus or attempt to capture your username and password. Messages like this do not come from Vista Interactive. Delete them.

More email scams

There are more malicious email scams going around. They might appear to come from your domain name and have a message like this:

From: "info@your domain name" <your domain name>
Subject: setting for your mailbox are changed

SMTP and POP3 servers for dns@vista-interactive.com mailbox are changed. Please carefully read the attached instructions before updating settings.

DO NOT open the attachment. It contains a virus. The email message has not come from Vista Interactive. Delete it.

Always use an up to date anti-virus program to scan all your hard drives, as well as external drives and memory sticks, if you think a virus may have infected your computer.

Please contact us for technical support or if you suspect your email account has been compromised.

Scam email warning

A scam email which attempts to trick you into giving away your email username and password is going around.

You might get a scam email like this:

From: support@your domain name <your domain name>
Subject: A new settings file for the your email address

Dear user of the your domain name mailing service!

We are informing you that because of the security upgrade of the mailing service your mailbox (your email address) settings were changed. In order to apply the new set of settings click on the following link:

http://your domain name/owa/service_directory/settings.php?email=your email address&from=your domain name&fromname=your name

DO NOT click on the link in the email, or give your username or password to anyone.

Some email clients (such as Thunderbird) should warn you that the above message is a scam.

How to tell if an email from Vista Interactive is real

We may occasionally send messages with instructions for updating your settings but our messages are quite different from the above scam.

We never ask you for your username or password.
Our messages are usually more personal and contain our contact information.
Any changes are usually in response to a request from you, for example adding a new email account.
When changes affect just one customer, we are usually in contact with you via Skype or phone as well as email. Please ensure we have alternative methods for contacting you.
When changes affect more than one customer we will post a general message here on our support blog about the changes and contact you with specific details.

Please contact us if you have any concerns about the authenticity of any technical support messages.

Hotmail messages not delivered

We are experiencing an issue with Hotmail.

Messages from Hotmail addresses are not being delivered to our mail servers.

Messages from our mail servers are being delivered to Hotmail addresses. The fault seems to be limited to Hotmail only and we are working to resolve this as soon as possible.
