Ah, finally...the zoo. I think I was just as excited to test my lens than I was to see the animals...sleep? I'm extremely pleased with some of the shots I got during the visit.

Perhaps the largest obstacle of taking attractive photos at the zoo is that they're all behind wire fences which really threw off my focus. Photo albums of a city's zoo is interesting, although there would be some common creatures.

The Alternate Routes/Scattered Trees @ Lambert's in Austin, Texas

I've waited quite a while to see The Alternate Routes live and I finally got to listen to then in person. The show was fantastic and everything I expected it to be. What was a bit of a challenge was trying to photograph in such a dark environment. I could keep my hands steady however, needless to say, the moved frequently. So the stationary objects came out great but the bands were blurry. Next chance of live music photography will be November 3rd when Bayside plays.

Second Trip to Austin

There was no specific location this time around but rather, experimentation was the focus of this trip.

This time around I attempted to capture photos with meaning. However, only I understand what I was aiming for and not the person looking at the photo. That obviously needs some work but I'm fairly satisfied with the results. I also tried a macro shot which lacked finer details but am glad with what I shot.

La Porte, Texas || Battleship/Memorial

Today's destination is...

Naturally I chose to park where it would require a bit of walking to reach the subject, making the destination all that much better. I visited this memorial a couple of years back when I was too young to fully appreciate it meaning and beauty. And even today, I don't fully understand.

Note to self for the next destination: inform yourself about the history and all that good stuff.

Dallas, Texas || The Rachofsky House

Destination #2 Rachofsky House

I love this project. Pure white, glass, dark floors are my favorites. Architect Richard Meier designed the home with the intention of creating a series of zones, from indoors to outdoors and back again. I'd talk more about the architecture if I could but I lack that sort of insight. Our guide was extremely polite and helpful through out the tour and quite knowledgeable. Art by Marisa Merz, Nate Lowman, Giulio Paolini, Andro Wekua, and many others fill the project naturally.

Dallas, Texas || Nasher Scuplture Center

Destination #1 in Dallas was Nasher Sculpture Center.

Before you enter the doors of the building you encounter a piece of art my American born Aaron Curry.

Capturing you eye at the entrance, this sculpture towers over you as you enter. There is another sculpture by the same artist in the opposite side of the center, unfortunately for some reason I did not compose an image of it (I guess we were in a rush). Here are some more photos of the center.

My ultimate goal of this blog and journey is to photograph the world one location at a time. The photos are not meant to be extraordinary but give the viewer a sense of the location and it's characteristics.

Location 1: Texas

So the plan is to map out the state, Texas, and begin marking off each location one by one. I'll get down to cities then counties and perhaps streets.
