The 4 Best SuperBowl Storylines to Know

The Conference Championship matchups are set; the NY Giants will face the San Francisco 49ers and The Baltimore Ravens will head to Foxborough to face the New England Patriots. Everyone will have their opinions on who will win, but here are four important storylines that will be focused on if any team makes it to the SuperBowl.

4. Is Eli Elite?

Before the season started, Eli Manning stated that he was an elite quarterback when pressed by the New York media and now he has made a great case for himself with an outstanding probowl season. The Giants are on a four game winning streak headed to the NFC Championship Game.

For years we have heard that Eli is a middle of the pack type quarterback. Even after winning a SuperBowl, he was still considered Peyton's little brother. What was worse than not being considered amongst the best QBs: Peyton Manning, Brees, Rodgers & Brady, Eli was not considered best in his draft class. After a few years of being in the league, Ben Roethlisberger and Phillip Rivers were considered better QBs than Eli.

All of these statements I mention above are completely true. Eli did play great in the Giants' championship run, but he was more on a hot streak than entering elite status. But I am certain of one thing, it will be hard for anyone to give a valid reason why Eli is not among the elite if he leads the Giants to a SuperBowl victory.

3. Can Rookie NFL Coach Jim Harbaugh Win the SuperBowl?

From recent history, NCAA coaches that become NFL head coaches have not been successful. Jim Harbaugh has brought some magic to the Bay Area. With no O.T.A. and an abridged training camp he has managed to get the whole team to understand and execute his philosophy.

The most miraculous thing is Harbaugh getting QB Alex Smith to play efficient. Before this season, former #1 overall pick, Alex Smith was considered one of the biggest draft bust in NFL history. Many will use the excuse that the team switched offensive coordinators too many times, but has anyone seen any flashes of greatness in his play the last six years?....NO!

I always believe that 49ers was a great team, they just needed solid quarterback play.What Harbaugh has done was give confidence to a man without any. Alex Smith proved against the Saints that he can win games and put the team on his back. All I know is, if the 49ers win the championship, this may be the best one season turnaround in NFL history!

2. Can Ravens Win It All With Joe Flacco?

Great defense, great special teams, great running game, questionable quarterback?

When Joe Flacco was drafted in 2008, he was the missing ingredient to a Ravens championship. He was brought into the league with the mentality of 'Don't make us loss this game.' or "You can't make any mistakes."It is harder to develop a young QB in a win now situation because of all this pressure. The Ravens have made the playoffs every year during the Joe Flacco era but have not reached the SuperBowl.

What Ravens need to realize is that their defense is not as elite as it once was and they will need Flacco to have big games in order to advance and win a SuperBowl. This QB is good enough to win a Championship but his teammates need to show more confidence in him.

1. Can Tom Brady Restore The Patriots Luster?

Lets be honest, even though the Patriots are a great franchise and has dominated the AFC for over a decade, the last time they won a championship was 2004. When its all said and done Bill Belichick maybe the greastest coach ever, Brady the best QB & Pats the greatest franchise. (Arguably) But there has been sereval instances in the past several years that have damaged the Patriots legacy:

Spy Gate- The Great Bill Belichick is viewed as a cheater
Loss to Giants- Maybe the best team in NFL history, lost their first game in the SuperBowl. Shame for a record shattering team.
Matt Cassel- The Pats was able to go 11-5 without Brady, leaving many to think the system can turn any unknown QB into a star.
Bad Defense- Formerly known for having one of the league's best defense, The Pats traded their veterans for draft picks and are lead by young players. The defense has been among the bottom of the league in yards allowed for the two years.
Playoff Lose to Jets- This is Tom Brady's worst loss in his football career, not for the shear fact that they lost to their hated rivals but this was the first time Tom Brady looked rattled. Not trusting his check-downs reads & confused on where the blitz was coming from. This lost gave Brady an edge this season that I haven't seen before. Brady keeps a calm demeanor in his press coverage, but there is a different look in his eyes.
Aaron Rodgers- Brady is a three time Super Bowl Champ, Two MVPs and numerous pro-bowls and the league is anointing Rodgers as the best QB in the league after one SuperBowl. You know Brady wants to end the year with another ring to remind everyone he is the best.

If Pats win another Superbowl the conversation will switch to, is Brady better than Joe Montana not Aaron Rodgers.

During the Fall 2011 semester I was a multimedia intern for CBS Sports Network. Twice a week, I edited, wrote titles and descriptions and published clips for the first season of The Tim Brando Show. The show aired live from Louisiana and I edited at a CBS Sports studio in New York City, so I never got the chance to meet him. On my last day of this internship I tweeted:

Tim Tebow: The God Affect?

Tim Tebow is a great football player with mediocre quarterback skills. I always felt he can develop into an average quarterback with great play-making skills and be a great starter in the NFL. My only issue is when people want to equate his winning with his faith, which is a big fallacy. This season he has played like trash for the first three quarters and led the Broncos to many come from behind wins in the fourth quarter. It must be his prayer and strong faith in God that makes him win.... right???

NO!!!!

Lets give the guy his credit. Tebow is one of the greatest red-zone players we have seen. He doesn't fumble, doesn't throw many interceptions, and in the red-zone you don't know if he will run or pass. Automatic Scoring Threat! Combine that with a great defense and running game and the Broncos remind me of the 2000's Ravens, 2004 Steelers or 2005 Giants.

The hype surrounding Tim Tebow is deserving. When you are a highly coveted athlete and keep winning on every level you play on your legend grows.

High school- Highly touted prospect who shattered many state records.
Freshman Year- Pivotal piece that helped Florida win the national championship.
Sophomore Year- Heisman Winner
Junior Year- National Championship
Senior Year- Returned to work on quarterback skills because he may have not been drafted as a QB according to early draft projections.

Tim Tebow lead the Broncos to a 29-23 overtime win versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. One can say that the Broncos won because there were key injuries:

QB Ben Roethlisberger Ankle Injury (No mobility)
RB Rashard Mendenhall torn ACL
C Maurkice Pouncey Ankle (Snap Count, Protection, blocking too important)

but Steetlers are still talented enough to win that game.

I doubt the Broncos will beat the Patriots this weekend, but if they do please don't say it has to do with a divine force.

In a nutshell, this is what happened...

What the Xavier stars said during the press conference is the what bothers me the most about this whole situation. Listen to the first 5 minutes of the video.

I did not like the use of "...We got a whole bunch of gangster in the lockeroom." or "Where we're from we gonna do something back." on TV. I completely understand his message, if any attacks them they will strike back; but he should of just said that then using the gangster references. Using the terms like 'gangster in the locker room' & 'Where we are from.' especially when you are black feeds into the stereotype that most young black men are thugs.

If I were in charge of public relations, I would have omitted the players from speaking in the post-game conference and just had the coach say a few words.

With all that being said, the maximum penalty handed out were two 6 game suspensions for Cincinnati and 4 game suspensions for two Xavier players. A little light if you ask me. But I'm not surprise for a team that is aiming for great tournament seeding so they can avoid the nations top teams in the early rounds.
