Leeds is the principal city of the north of England. It is a centre of commerce, finance and industry situated at the crossroads where the main north-south and east-west motorways and railways cross. It is Britain’s greenest city with more parkland in ratio to its population than any other lying second in Europe only to Vienna. Its two major parks are at Temple Newsam which at 1000 acres is Europe’s largest urban park and Roundhay with its two lakes that covers 750 acres.

The city has two universities, schools of medicine and dentistry, of art and music and amongst its many museums are two of international status – the Royal Armouries and the Thackray Museum of Medicine. There are important historic houses: Bramham Park, Harewood House, Lotherton Hall and Temple Newsam House – the last two being owned by the city council. There are four theatres and many other entertainment venues of all types. It is a great sporting city and is frequently the venue for international events.
Leeds City Centre is a thriving area with some of the finest Victorian architecture in the world, outstanding shopping, particularly around the beautiful Victoria Quarter, on pedestrian Briggate and in the Corn Exchange. There is an enormous wealth of bars, restaurants, cafés, pubs and nightclubs in Leeds as well as many interesting attractions: Leeds City Art Gallery has the best selection of c.20th British Art outside London, the Town Hall is a stunning monument to Civic Pride, Millennium Square with its many events, restaurants, theatre, museum, gardens is a great place to visit and the Exchange Quarter with its trendy bars, bohemian shops and cobbled streets has a fantastic atmosphere.
western flatts park in wortley leeds12 is also a lovely quiet spot to enjoy, with a walled rose garden, tennis and bowls and football playing areas, and walking on to cabbage hill beyond the leysholmes estate gives one of the best views over leeds.
the park itself looks out over green hills, a jewish cemetery, and morley, farnley, and pudsey on the horizon to the west and south.
if there is a match on at elland road and the wind is in the right direction the roars of the crowd can be heard.
i live nearby, and can vouch that owls, bats, as well as many bird species inhabit the area, although there are perhaps a few too many magpies.
in spring the cherry blossom is georgeous, and cherries can be picked in july.
it can be reached from the city centre - 4km away - on the 43 and 42 and 66 buses.

Huddersfield is located in the northern part of England, close to Manchester. It's a nice town with a few goof sights and worth a visit.
Dominating the Huddersfield skyline, Castle Hill is the main sight. It has been occupied since the Stone Age. The Victoria Tower was built in 1898/9 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s coronation. Visitors can take in the panoramic views across Huddersfield and the surrounding countryside.
Other sights include the Kirklee gallery(paintings by Francis Bacon, LS Lowry, Henry Moore, Graham Sutherland, and members of the Camden Town group).a ride on Kirklees Light Railway a Steam Train, which will carry you through the lovely South Pennines on an old country branch line and Tolson Memorial Museum.
Finally you can see if you can take a boat trip on the canals, the broad canal and the narrow canal which boasts Standedge Tunnel, the longest and highest in the country, standing 654ft (196m) above sea level and 3 miles 135yrds (4950m) long.
What was once busy docks and warehouses is now home to moorings and a popular canalside restaurant and pubs.

Hull is a major port in England. Many people just get off the boat here and immediately move on. It would be a pity. Hull has quite a few things to offer to travelers.
Officially known as Kingston-upon-Hull, Hull - as it is better known - is a city and port in Humberside, England, situated at the junction of the Hull and Humber rivers. It is linked to the south bank of the estuary by a bridge completed in 1981. Hull was the birthplace of the English philanthropist William Wilberforce.
The city centre has spacious pedestrianised shopping streets; distinguished public buildings, many recently refurbished; the Old Town, where Hull began about 800 years ago, offers narrow, cobbled lanes and quays; Holy Trinity Church, founded 700 years ago; 18th and 19th Century architecture; old waterside inns and a wide range of museums to which entrance is entirely free.
New leisure attractions in out historic dockland include an elegant yacht harbour, and Olympic-standard Ice Arena, a 34-lane 10-pin Bowling Centre and an extensive range of shopping facilities complementary to those in the heart of the City. There is also a satisfying variety of entertainment, theatrical and musical choice to meet the most demanding tastes - all brought together by many special and 'festive' events throughout the year and the ever present aroma of fish.

The River Humber estuary is the second largest water barrier in England [The Wash is wider.] The bridge spans the estuary a few miles west of Hulland has a main span of over 1,400 meters and the side spans combined add a further 800 meters. This makes it England's biggest bridge and it sometimes has to close because of high side winds.
It is very scenic and there are viewing areas with extensive car parks on both sides.

Ingleton is on the west side of the Yorkshire Dales and has a small national park information office in the main carpark. It is located among some great limestone scenery.
It is noted for its waterfalls walk [private land – admission charge] on the rivers Twiss and Doe which join near the village. Thornton Force is one of the best known of the falls and it is possible to follow the path and stand behind it.
Between the two rivers there is access to the fine and uncluttered limestone pavements of Twistleton Scars, lying immediately below the highest hill in the Dales, Whernside. However a far more spectacular hill, Ingleborough, rises directly from the village. This has an Iron Age hillfort at the top.

There are two national parks in Yorkshire, this being one and the Yorkshire Dales the other. Although it would be difficult to distinguish between them, based on their names, they are quite different. One difference is that the North York Moors embrace some of the most scenic places on the Yorkshire Coast. Inland both contain dales and both contain moors but the dales here are smaller and more intimate than the largest in the Yorkshire Dales
Near to the North York Moors is Rievaulx Abbey, perhaps rivalling Fountains Abbey nearer to the Dales. One area in which it certainly beats the Dales is that of preserved railways, the NYM Railway rivalling that of the Dart Valley in Devon to be considered England's most scenic.

Richmond, Yorkshire [be careful to distinguish it from RichmondSurrey] is a lovely historic town in Swaledale, one of the most fascinating of the Yorkshire Dales
Its history goes back a long way and among its places of interest are a functional Georgian theatre, the castle which was commenced by William Rufus in 1071 and Easby Abbey, a short walk along the river, founded in 1152.
There is also a fascinating cobbled market square where an open market is held on Saturdays as well as the closed market.

Ripon is a small city near to the YorkshireDales. Its main glory is the Cathedral, started in the 7th century and still retaining a crypt from that time whereas most of what is currently seen dates from the 13th century or later. It is one of England's lower cathedrals, not having wished to advertise its presence to raiders from Scotland.
Ripon also has a Wakeman's house and the wakeman's horn is still sounded every evening in the market square.

Only a short distance from Ripon is what may well be the most scenic of all Yorkshire's ruined abbeys and a world class site. This is Fountains Abbey. Its setting is wonderful and its grounds meet with the estate of Studeley Royal, also in National Trust ownership.
The remains are far more extensive than those of most abbeys and it is easy to imagine it as a place of lay monastic life as well as a religious site.

From here if you continue along the main road to Pateley bridge you will be able to turn off on signed minor roads to the south and reach Brimham rocks, an extraordinary array of rocks of convoluted shapes, again owned by the NT.

Scarborough is a major resort on the east coast of Yorkshire. The town still has a spa, though i think it is now used just as much as ever it was.The old town is built around a massive headland which jutts out into the North Sea, and divides the town in two, a north side and a south side. The North Bay is still unspoiled (relatively), and is popular with surfers and other water sports afficianados. A good walk is to walk the Marine Drive and out along to Scalby Mills where you can see the Sea Life Centre. The South bay is more commercialised and full of amusement arcades and ice cream parlours, which, along with the fish and chips keep most people happy. At the top of the headland is Scarborough Castle, a stiff climb but well worth it for the wonderful views over the town and sea.

Sheffield is one of those industrial cities of England where one can still see the impact of the steel making industry that made Sheffield into what it is these days. Although some people consider it an uncharming and depressing city, others love this city at the heart of Britain because of the combination of a thriving steel making industry with a modern pulse, set in hilly surroundings with the moors and the famous Peak district only a few miles away.
These days, Sheffield has about half of a million inhabitants and attracts visitors from all over the world, not in the least because of its rapid and fairly short (approximately 2,5 hours) connection with London. There are several good museums, most of them dedicated to the city’s industrial past, subsequent growth and prosperity, and the present. Besides that, Sheffield has two universities and offers excellent sport facilities and an active nightlife scene. The Yorkshire countryside lends itself perfectly for a walking trip.

Skipton, just outside the Yorkshire Dales to the south, prides itself on being 'the Gateway to the Dales.' It is an attractive town with an ancient castle and, on market days, market stalls on both sides of the very wide main street.
The town lies on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal and good boat trips are available.

The South Pennines is an area where the remains of the once predominant textile industry, [cotton in and around Todmorden and mainly wool elsewhere,] merge into the attractive hilly landscape. The area is located within the municipal boroughs of Bradford, Calderdale and Kirklees in what was, for a short time, the county of West Yorkshire [far smaller than the historic West Riding of Yorkshire. The Rochdale Canal, newly reopened a few years ago, goes through the area and it is split up by various roads from Lancashire to Yorkshire.
Todmorden, Hebden Bridge, Hawarth and Ripponden all provide a choice of walks and there are mill ruins along all the smaller valleys, often of what started as water mills. An example is what is now the tiny hamlet of Lumbutts above Todmorden, where there is a tower [unsafe and no public entrance] which contained three waterwheels arranged horizontally. The best museum is possibly just out of the area, being the Industrial Museum in Halifax.
The area known as Hardcastle Crags, near Hebden Bridge, where two minor rivers meet, is one of the very best for walks. Much of the land area belongs to the National Trust, who are carrying out work on a visitor centre at the old Gibson Mill, an early watermill which changed to steam early and unfortunately ceased production early as well.
Haworth is the town of the Bronte sisters and might now be considered a tourist trap although the Parsonage Museum is still worth a look for Bronte enthusiasts.

Todmorden is to the far west of West Yorkshire. In fact the border between Yorkshire and Lancashire was once a brook running under its large Italianate town hall. It is now part of Calderdale in Yorkshire.
Todmorden's industrial history owes more to the cotton of Lancashire than to Yorkshire wool. However Todmorden was connected by both canal and rail with Yorkshire first as the stretches of the Rochdale Canal, recently reopened, and the original trans-Pennine railway between Todmorden and Littleborough, now in Greater Manchester and Rochdale were the last to be built and represented a triumph at the time.

There are a number of local buses [T1 to T8]. T6 and T8 run a circular service in opposite directions which some come a distance to travel. It passes through some fine countryside including moors and a small wood and the villages of Lumbutts and Mankinholes, an old industrial village and a farming village still visibly based on the 16th century respectively.

There is no difficulty about getting to Todmorden. In spite of numerous threats over time the subsidiary rail line from Manchester Victoria Station to Rochdale, Bradford and Leeds still provides trains every half hour in both directions during the working day [one an hour evenings and weekends].
There are buses to and from Burnley, Rochdale and Halifax every half hour during the working day.

You’ll love York. On the one hand, it’s a thriving modern city with modern shopping areas and two universities. On the other hand, you'll find constant reminders of its Roman, Viking and Medieval past. The city is surrounded by walls that have a Roman base. They were rebuilt by the Saxons, destroyed by William the Conqueror and rebuilt, first by the Normans and then in the 14th century in much the same form as today. One of the four impressive gateways, Monk Bar, has a small museum where you can trace the impact of one of York’s famous citizens, Richard III.
Besides the Medieval walls, the Museum Gardens with its ruins, the Clifford’s Tower and the museums, York is especially known for its cathedral: the York Minster. It will take you at least half a day to see the inside and to climb your way up to the top to have some astonishing views of the surroundings. Nearby the Minster, you can lose your way in the winding cobbled alleys of the Shambles with the little shops and beetling timber-framed houses.
When you’ve walked upon the longest intact city walls in the UK, take a rest at one of the many pubs or sit at one of the many terraces along the Ouse (that is, when the adjoining building aren’t flooded by the river, which does normally happen at least once a year) or enjoy a boat trip on the river.
York has excellent connections with other big cities in the UK and serves as an ideal base for visiting the nearby National Parks, such as the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, and the heritage coastline towns, such as Scarborough and Whitby. The city of York, steeped in history, is an absolute must when you’re visiting Yorkshire.
Now enough of the tourist guide ramblings lets get a real view of York. As a local I can maybe point out some of the things not thought of.
Lets start with Castle Museum, a gem amongst museums of the older school. Here you can find an amazing reconstruction of a complete street from Victorian times called Kirkgate. It also has artifacts found from battlesites nearby such as Stamford Bridge. You will find the museum next to Clifford's Tower.
York is the home to the National Railway Museum. Here you can find a real train enthusiast's dream with trains of all eras on display including several royal carriages, and a Japanese bullet train.
The Jorvik Museum has become something of a cult recently apparently accurately recreating the smells of Viking times.
Enough of Museums. What about Pubs. York had at last count over 200 pubs. These can be split fairly accurately into two categories modern and traditional. The modern cater for the young lager and alcopop drinkers and the traditional for everyone including the real ale enthusiast. Nearly all of these serve food and most of it is very good. Possibly the best can be found at the Spread Eagle in Walmgate. For real ale try the Maltings at one end of Lendal Bridge.
What about Dick Turpin and Guy Fawkes both lived of York. Dick Turpin was hung at the Tyburn which is now York Racecourse and his burial stone can be found at St. Georges Church in York with memorial plaques on houses near the minster.
Guy Fawkes was born in York and educated at St Peter's School in York. After leaving England for Spain and converting to Catholic he was convicted of Treason and hanged, drawn and quartered - a particularly unpleasant way of killing someone. Memorial Plaques to Guy Fawkes and a pub in his name can be found in York.
Walking around York on a Saturday is a challenge for anyone not local to York. To those in the know York is criss-crossed with many small alleyways. These were described in a book called Snickleways of York. They allow the local to avoid the masses and cross York in relative peace.
Tea shops are a very popular haunt in York with many very fine examples including Betty's and Taylors Tea Rooms (now called Betty's) and talking of haunts York is reputedly very haunted. In fact the Castle Museum lays claim to be the most haunted museum in the UK.
Why not go shopping in the Shambles or just go to look at the shops. Look up and you will see that people living there could actually pass things across out of the windows to their neighbours on the opposite sides of the street. The Shambles was the place to buy meat in days gone by and you can still see the hooks in the shops there from which the meat was hung. It was also the home of Margaret Clitherow who was crushed to death for practising catholocism in the Ouse Bridge Prison. Her right hand is on display at the Bar Convent museum... And at the end of the Shambles Whip-Ma-Whop-Whap-Ma Gate can be found. Despite the long name the street is the shortest in York and once was the shortest in the country.
The bars - York has four bars, Micklegate Bar, Walmgate Bar, Bootham Bar, Monkgate Bar. These were the entrances into the city built in the 12th and 13th century and a place where the traitors of the city had their heads placed on public display -on spikes outside the walls of course... Today these heads can be found in Micklegate Bar.

The Yorkshire Dales National Park is in one of the most popular and beautiful regions of England. It is easily accessible and has plenty of reasonably priced accommodation and other facilities. But it is the beauty of the area with its river valleys - the dales - and delightful villages and small market towns that give it its appeal.
It is an inexcusable omission that the National Park does not include lovely Nidderdale which remains outside it to the east. This omission should not be seen as a reason to avoid Nidderdale.

Leeds is the principal city of the north of England. It is a centre of commerce, finance and industry situated at the crossroads where the main north-south and east-west motorways and railways cross. It is Britain’s greenest city with more parkland in ratio to its population than any other lying second in Europe only to Vienna. Its two major parks are at Temple Newsam which at 1000 acres is Europe’s largest urban park and Roundhay with its two lakes that covers 750 acres.
The city has two universities, schools of medicine and dentistry, of art and music and amongst its many museums are two of international status – the Royal Armouries and the Thackray Museum of Medicine. There are important historic houses: Bramham Park, Harewood House, Lotherton Hall and Temple Newsam House – the last two being owned by the city council. There are four theatres and many other entertainment venues of all types. It is a great sporting city and is frequently the venue for international events.
Leeds City Centre is a thriving area with some of the finest Victorian architecture in the world, outstanding shopping, particularly around the beautiful Victoria Quarter, on pedestrian Briggate and in the Corn Exchange. There is an enormous wealth of bars, restaurants, cafés, pubs and nightclubs in Leeds as well as many interesting attractions: Leeds City Art Gallery has the best selection of c.20th British Art outside London, the Town Hall is a stunning monument to Civic Pride, Millennium Square with its many events, restaurants, theatre, museum, gardens is a great place to visit and the Exchange Quarter with its trendy bars, bohemian shops and cobbled streets has a fantastic atmosphere.
western flatts park in wortley leeds12 is also a lovely quiet spot to enjoy, with a walled rose garden, tennis and bowls and football playing areas, and walking on to cabbage hill beyond the leysholmes estate gives one of the best views over leeds.
the park itself looks out over green hills, a jewish cemetery, and morley, farnley, and pudsey on the horizon to the west and south.
if there is a match on at elland road and the wind is in the right direction the roars of the crowd can be heard.
i live nearby, and can vouch that owls, bats, as well as many bird species inhabit the area, although there are perhaps a few too many magpies.
in spring the cherry blossom is georgeous, and cherries can be picked in july.
it can be reached from the city centre - 4km away - on the 43 and 42 and 66 buses.

In viaggio dentro sé stessi.
Cambiare lavoro a volte non basta, bisogna scavare di più per ritrovare la propria dimensione autentica e ritrovarsi.
Accade nella vita di ognuno di noi a volte di non sentirsi bene nel presente, di stare con la testa tra le nuvole magari proprio nei momenti che dovrebbero essere piacevoli e spensierati, mentre si è con gli amici, con la famiglia, con il partner oppure al lavoro quando serve essere concentrati.
Se questo ti comincia ad accadere frequentemente non lo sottovalutare è segno che c'è qualcosa nella tua vita da guardare e forse da cambiare
Guardare non significa, giudicarsi, interpretarsi o condannarsi. Guardare significa sospendere il proprio giudizio e vedere come in televisione o in un film cosa sta accadendo senza emettere sentenze, e poi fermarsi, raccogliersi sentire le proprie sensazioni ed emozioni senza paura.
Dentro e fuori da noi abbiamo molte più risorse di quanto pensiamo.
Si può tentare di farlo da soli, ma non è sempre facile. E’ capitato anche a me e non sono ancora del tutto fuori, ma almeno sono in viaggio.
Nel 2005 decisi di cambiare lavoro, ero dirigente sindacale di una grande organizzazione confederale, ma mi sentivo stretto, non riuscivo a ritrovare la passione di una volta e allora via, dopo quasi 20 anni ho cambiato lavoro e sono tornato come si dice nel gergo “sindacalese” in “produzione” nel mio caso nel servizio da cui provenivo, il sistema bibliotecario di una grande città.
Il caso ha voluto che per una serie di motivi una bella e grande biblioteca di periferia fosse rimasta senza direttore e nessuno ci voleva andare, pensai: “perché no”, era un bel salto, ma il cambiamento era assicurato e una nuova sfida mi attendeva.
Dopo circa sei mesi mi accorsi che sì il lavoro andava bene e la biblioteca anche, le soddisfazioni ed i riconoscimenti non mancavano, ma c’era sempre qualcosa in me che mi portava , appunto, altrove. Sia sul lavoro che in famiglia. E allora decisi un' esperienza di cui avevo sempre avuto timore, la psicanalisi, una psicoterapia psicoanalitica.
Come racconta Sara Gamberini in questo stesso sito nell’articolo “IN VIAGGIO SUL LETTINO. LA PSICOANALISI CAMBIA LA VITA ?” è una “ … strada da prendere per raggiungere il proprio inferno..”
Una strada difficile dove è fondamentale scegliere un professionista (donna o uomo che sia) serio e non andare dal primo che capita, e scegliere sentendo dentro di te che chi hai di fronte potrà aiutarti e sceglierlo anche come persona.
Quando ho iniziato ero nel fuoco di mille contraddizioni, arrabbiato con il mondo che mi negava ciò che volevo.
Poi le parole, i sogni, i silenzi, le mille frasi ripetute, la pazienza e la franchezza dell’analista, il girare e il rigirare per tanto tempo su blocchi, paure, ansie, speranze, passato, presente e futuro e soprattutto essere ascoltati senza giudizio etico o morale, come direbbe Nietzsche “aldilà del bene e del male”.

MOLLO TUTTO! E FACCIO SOLO QUELLO CHE MI PARE 19/1/2012

"Mollo tutto! E faccio solo quello che mi pare" è il titolo di un libro recentemente pubblicato dalla De Agostini. Se le parole hanno importanza allora non è superfluo dire che non è tutto oro ciò che luccica. In momenti come questi, in cui la crisi e la paura del futuro, letteralmente, tolgono il sonno a molti di noi è importante non scambiare la creatività con l'avventatezza. Piccolo ma doveroso consiglio per la lettura di questo testo.

Ma è altrettanto vero che sia proprio in momenti di crisi, di stallo e di incertezza che possono nascere gli stimoli e le idee migliori per tentare di cambiare, di introdurre una svolta, grande o piccola che sia, ai sentieri fino ad ora battuti. E in questa ottica, il libro di cui parliamo può di certo dare qualche spunto. Tenendo comunque presente che si tratta di un libro scritto rivolgendosi, in prima battuta, al mercato anglosassone e americano. E, senza voler fare un discorso pedante sulla mentalità e la cultura lavorativa di quei paesi, ci sembra giusto ricordare come la mobilità e una certa natura più scanzonata di quei popoli, renda non immediatamente trasferibile e comprensibile il sottofondo di giocosità del testo.

Ma veniamo a vedere chi è l'autore. John Williams ha cambiato più di un impiego, compreso un lavoro piuttosto ben remunerato in una importante società di consulenza. E si è creato un lavoro in proprio di cui da testimonianza nel sito www.screwworkletsplay.com. In pratica fa da consulente a chi, a sua volta, ha deciso o sta decidendo di cambiare attività.

Gioco è la parola chiave del testo: trasformare il lavoro in un gioco o, trasformare il gioco in un lavoro. La chiave di lettura sottesa è comunque quella di rintracciare nelle nostre vite ciò che ci diverte e coltivare quell'aspetto. Perché è quell'aspetto che può darci opportunità di crescita e cambiamento. Il libro è indubbiamente ricco di consigli su come focalizzare l'obiettivo, organizzare il cambiamento senza pericolosi e stupidi colpi di testa e su come superare i momenti di sconforto e sfiducia che, spesso, portano a rinunciare in partenza.

“Ho cominciato, sebbene a piccoli passi, a girare il mondo a quattordici anni. All'inizio, per imparare l'inglese in una vacanza studio. Era tutto organizzato, in gruppo, per un periodo limitato. Poi, ho pensato che il tempo a disposizione fosse limitato per imparare una lingua e conoscere meglio un luogo. Così, ho progettato la vacanza successiva per un periodo più lungo, tre mesi. Ho sentito parlare di vacanze - lavoro. Esperienze interessanti. In seguito ho capito che puoi anche fare a meno degli intermediari, agenzie, scuole, associazioni. Tutto sembra difficile, finché non parti. Ti accorgi a quel punto che puoi fare anche da solo”.

E’ la storia di Maria Sica, bresciana che, a 28 anni, parla quattro lingue e ha vissuto in Australia, Thailandia, Germania, Spagna. Da due risiede nelle Canarie. Non aveva progettato di lasciare l’Italia.

Ma allora a cosa attribuire il destino di giramondo? “Non avevo voglia di andare ma mi era più difficile restare. Ero insoddisfatta, pressata dall’attesa, da un'ansia quotidiana. Prima è la stanza con la sorella che ti diventa stretta, poi la casa. E la città, la nazione. Di qui il desiderio sempre più forte di conoscere il mondo, che diventa fame insaziabile dell'anima. Quando ho lasciato l'Italia per la prima volta a tempo ‘indeterminato’ e' stato soprattutto perché non riuscivo a comunicare con i miei amici, compagni, colleghi. I piccoli e grandi viaggi che facevo ogni volta mi mostravano una realtà diversa, un diverso modo di pensare, vivere, considerare il tempo e organizzare lo spazio. Cominciava a diventare difficile stabilire cosa era ‘giusto’ e cosa ‘sbagliato’. Saltavano i parametri consueti e si allargavano troppo le vedute, si aggiungevano troppe considerazioni, tanti dubbi. Non riuscivo a rimanere negli schemi abituali. Accumulavo via via esperienze, che mi distanziavano sempre di più dai miei amici. Non c’erano litigi. Né avevamo modi diversi di divertirci. Non c’erano antipatie o divergenze di opinioni”.

E cosa?

Era qualcosa di più profondo. Mi accorgevo che nonostante un linguaggio comune, c’era assenza di comunicazione, perché le esperienze erano diverse.

Quale la più interessante, che rivivrebbe?

E’ assai difficile da dire. Diciamo che ognuna mi ha fatto scoprire qualcosa di me, a volte con grande sorpresa, a volte con vergogna o con orgoglio. Forse indicherei l'Australia, perché è stata la più spettacolare. Ero ancora giovane e tutto richiedeva più coraggio. Adesso il mondo e' la mia casa, non c'e' luogo che mi paia tanto strano, troppo lontano o irraggiungibile. Una volta era diverso, l'altro capo del mondo era un mistero. E affrontare il mistero e' l'esperienza più grande. A poco a poco ti abitui perfino a confrontarti con l’ignoto che comincia a diventare gestibile nella sua imprevedibilità.

Perché si è fermata nelle Isole Canarie?

Stavo vivendo da circa due anni a Berlino, la città del mio cuore. Mentre ero lì, quasi per scherzo, un giorno ho cominciato a fissare le condizioni più importanti per cercare un posto, in cui fermarmi.

In Germania non le aveva trovate?

Beh, quando viaggi molto, il mondo sembra consigliarti di fermarti. Ti convince che è venuto il momento di cercare una fissa dimora. Così cominciai a pensare di dire stop. Volevo stabilirmi in Europa, perché la burocrazia internazionale mi aveva esaurito. Desideravo un posto al caldo, perché due anni a Berlino mi avevano fatto capire quanto siano importanti la luce e il calore, fanno bene all’anima, influenzano la visione delle cose. Volevo fosse un luogo dove poter parlare una lingua che conoscessi. Allora avevo anche la necessità di lavorare subito e non perdere altro tempo.

A quel punto?

Con queste premesse le Canarie risultavano il posto perfetto. Non avevo voglia di ricominciare da zero. E per me cominciare da zero significava documenti, lingua, cultura, casa nuovi. Al contrario, volevo rilassarmi, giocare facile. Conoscevo la lingua, la cultura, i siti internet e i principali quotidiani del Paese, avevo gia' il Nie (documento di identificazione dello straniero in Spagna). Avevo optato per una vita da pigra, un’esistenza slow, ma avventurosa. L'obiettivo dichiarato era fermarmi per sempre.

Ma?

Non penso di restarci per sempre. In Italia non tornerò più. Avevo troppe aspettative, lì. Tutte deluse. Certo passerò sempre dal Belpaese, c'e' la mia famiglia. E poi l’Italia e' la mia casa. Ma ho troppa rabbia. Sono disillusa. Troppe le cose guaste che ho visto. Ora posso fare tanti confronti. C’è attaccamento alla mia casa. Niente altro. Non e' per parlare male, io ci soffro. Ma in Italia si arranca, si soffoca, si sta bene, finché non ci si fa troppe domande. Sino a quando ci si adegua a quello che c'e'. In questo e' simile alla Spagna, dove spesso ti dicono: “Es lo que hay”. In Germania, invece, se c'e' qualcosa di migliorabile, lo si migliora o si cerca di farlo. E lo si fa col tuo contributo. Questo ti fa sentire parte attiva.

In Italia?

Nello stivale le tue idee o le tue critiche sono materiale per conversazione da bar. Nascono e muoiono subito, tra eventuali attacchi che sempre, ma proprio sempre, hanno risvolti politici. Non riusciamo ad uscire dagli schemi, fatichiamo a darci un modello diverso di vivere, non ci interessa abbastanza cambiare. Ci diciamo: ‘di sicuro qualcuno ci penserà al posto nostro’. Questo, per una persona come me che, per vivere ha bisogno di sentirsi attiva, rappresenta una piccola morte quotidiana.

E quindi?

E' più facile essere una straniera in un Paese straniero, che sola nel proprio Paese. Qualcuno mi definirebbe codarda. E' possibile, ci ho pensato, ma e' una guerra troppo difficile da affrontare. Come dicevo e' la speranza che mi manca, non tanto il coraggio.

ARRIVEDERCI VERONA...VADO A VIVERE A MINORCA 3/7/2011

Minorca. Della serie, le favole diventano realtà. Mare e spiagge ancora incontaminati. In primavera un’esplosione di fiori. Un clima gradevole. Vita all’aria aperta. E poi una vita senza ansia. Difficile immaginarlo, è vero. Ma se leggiamo l’intervista con Diletta e Alessandro che qualche mese fa hanno lasciato Verona, scopriremo che i posti da sogno spesso sono a portata di mano.

Loro hanno scoperto Minorca per caso. Poi hanno comprato una casa, dove tante volte per dieci anni hanno trascorso le vacanze. In inverno e in estate. L’isola è entrata nel loro cuore. Di qui il grande balzo. Hanno venduto il bell’appartamento che avevano nella città veneta e si sono trasferiti sull’isola, dove all'una e mezzo si fermano tutti per gustare in santa pace il pranzo e dove per tutto il giorno ci si può “affaticare” solo con sport acquatici, golf, tennis, immersioni. Mare, mare e solo mare.

Proviamo a far parlare loro. Ragazzi, ci descrivete Minorca?

Minorca è un'isola bellissima. Piccola (50 km da Mahon a Ciutadella, la capitale attuale e quella antica che si trovano rispettivamente ad Est ed Ovest dell'isola), molto verde (soprattutto al nord), con un mare e delle spiagge spettacolari ed estremamente tranquilla. In primavera è un'esplosione di fiori, mentre d'inverno è il regno della pace.

Una bella spiaggia?

Ce ne sono tantissime di incantevoli, ma su tutte direi Cala Turqueta a sud e Cavalleria a nord.

Come si vive lì?

Minorca è un'isola adatta a chi desidera vivere in pace e senza stress. Pensi che in tutta Minorca ci sono solamente tre semafori. La gente è tranquilla e vive senza tante ansie. Lo si può vedere a pranzo dove, come in quasi tutta la Spagna, ci si ferma per mangiare senza correre come in Italia e poi si fa la sacra siesta rigenerante.

Come sono le persone?

Tranquille anche se un po' riservate. Credo sia dovuto al fatto che Minorca ha scoperto il turismo da poco. Prima viveva di agricoltura e allevamento e si cullava in un felice isolamento.

Hanno tradizioni particolari?

Le feste patronali. Ogni centro ne ha una, ma la più famosa è la festa di San Juan a Ciutadella, a fine Giugno di ogni anno. Durante queste feste i cavalli e gli abitanti sono i protagonisti assoluti. La “pomada”, una bevanda a base di limonata e gin, scorre a fiumi.

Piatti tipici?

La calderta de langosta. E' una specie di zuppa calda a base di aragosta.

Com'è il clima?

Da maggio a fine settembre una favola. Caldo, ma quasi mai oltre i trenta gradi e in genere sempre ventilato. Nei mesi invernali capitano giornate umide e ventose (soffia spesso la tramontana da nord) ma spesso ci sono giornate splendide dove è possibile andare a fare due passi in spiaggia o nei tanti sentieri nell'entroterra.

C'è lavoro? Voi cosa fate lì ?

In questo momento il tasso di disoccupazione è altissimo. Soprattutto tra i giovani. Quando inizia la stagione turistica le cose vanno meglio perchè alberghi e ristoranti danno lavoro a tanti minorchini e a tanti spagnoli che giungono dal continente. Io mi occupo di traduzioni dalla spagnolo all'italiano e dall'inglese all'italiano (mi sto laureando in lingue) ed in passato ho lavorato in un'agenzia a Playas de Fornells che si occupava di affitti di appartamenti.

Mio marito invece ha appena iniziato la ristrutturazione di una Casa de Pueblo di 120 mq. nel centro storico di Mercadal che diventerà nel 2012 una Guest House aperta tutto l'anno.

Come sono accolti gli italiani?

Molto bene, siamo quasi 1500 in tutta l'isola.

Come sono i collegamento con l'Italia?

Ecco la nota dolente. Durante l'estate, diciamo da Maggio a Settembre, ci sono molti charter dalle principali città italiane però in inverno bisogna volare via Barcellona o via Madrid. In alternativa c'è il traghetto da Barcellona ma è molto caro.

Quanto dista dalle maggiori città spagnole?

Da Barcellona venti minuti di volo, da Madrid circa un’ ora e trenta.

Cosa si fa in genere la sera?

Minorca non è un'isola mondana. C'è solamente una discoteca, Cova d'en Xoroi (peraltro bellissima, a picco sul mare e aperta durante il giorno dove è magnifico osservare il tramonto). Di sera si va a cena in qualche ristorantino oppure si fanno due passi a Mahon o nella bellissima Ciutadella.

E di mattina? si praticano sport?

Durante il giorno mare, mare e ancora mare!. Per chi ama lo sprot c'è da sbizzarrirsi. Tutti gli sport acquatici come vela e surf, tennis, equitazione, golf (c'è un campo molto bello a Son Parc) e molto altro.

Come sono i servizi pubblici?

Buoni direi. Ci sono due ottimi ospedali e per i trasporti c'è un servizio di bus che collega i vari paesi dell'isola e le principali spiagge mentre uffici & co funzionano di norma molto bene.

Quali sono i lati negativi?

Per quanto ci riguarda nessuno. Se proprio dobbiamo indicarne qualcuno direi la difficoltà per raggiungere Minorca in inverno e l'umidità di alcuni mesi invernali.

Quelli positivi?

Il mare e le spiagge, la luce, l'aria frizzante e pulita, il senso di calma e tranquillità che si respira, la natura incontaminata del Nord di Minorca e i tanti fantastici ristorantini da esplorare. In generale la qualità della vita a mio avviso è straordinaria. Una cosa banale: per noi svegliarci, andare a comperare il giornale a Fornells (un comune, bellissimo a Nord dell'isola a pochi passi da casa nostra) e sederci a bere un caffè e leggere in riva al mare non ha eguali, ci accontentiamo di poco.

La vita è cara?

Diciamo che è allineata con quella di una città italiana del nord. Conoscendo i posti giusti è possibile risparmiare molto.

Consigli a chi voglia vivere lì?

Di passare periodi lunghi sull'isola prima di decidere. Anche durante l'inverno.

Quanto serve per ripartire da Minorca?

Dipende molto da cosa si vuole fare, se si vuole comperare l'attività o solamente la gestione oppure partire da zero. Sono molti i fattori da valutare attentamente. Se si pensa ad un un'attività commerciale è bene per esempio sapere che la stagionalità influisce molto sull'andamento degli incassi. Nel turismo e nella ristorazione comunque c'è ancora spazio.

"ESAURITI DALL'ITALIA", SILVIO BANDINELLI E MONICA TIMPERI RACCONTANO LA LORO FUGA A FORMENTERA 5/5/2011

Formentera, l’isola più piccola abitata dell’arcipelago delle Baleari, per chi sa guardare al di là dei motorini e i quad sfreccianti, gli yacht, i vip e las fiestas sulla playas, che l’anno resa famosa, è molto più che un’isola di spensierate vacanze.

Per alcuni, può diventare un rifugio, un volano per un “cambio di vita”.

Questa piccola oasi adagiata sul Mediterraneo si presenta con due punte importanti, da faro a faro, Cap de Barbaria e La Mola. Si compone poi di borghi e minuscoli nuclei abitativi, tra i quali: il notissimo Es Pujol (frequentatissimo soprattutto da turisti italiani in estate), e i meno battuti dai vacanzieri: La Savina, Sant Francesc, Sant Ferran, Es Calò, El Pilar de la Mola…

È alla Savina, immersa nello sconcertante paesaggio delle saline, che la produttrice Monica Timperi e il regista Silvio Bandinelli (di genere hard) si sono trasferiti, lasciando le colline del Chianti. “Quelle rosse, che non si chiamano ancora shire, e dove ci sono ancora i compagni …” spiega con una punta d’ ironia Silvio Bandinelli.

Hanno lasciato l’Italia nel settembre del 2009 per trasferirsi a vivere, con la loro bimba di 7 anni, sulla isla.

Dopo una lunga carriera nella produzione di film porno, dove Bandinelli cerca d’imporre al genere, un suo stile personale, trattando temi di attualità con la propria impronta “schierata a sinistra” (Cuba, Forza Italia), vende la sua casa di produzione e parte. In Spagna, apre una società di diritto spagnolo e prosegue nella sua attività.

“Formentera è stata da subito un’attrazione molto forte. Abbiamo subito l’energia, il magnetismo, la magia … tutte parole che io, essendo un grande razionalista, “marxiano”, non capisco troppo… però, in effetti, siamo stati stregati”, spiega il regista.

All’innamoramento per l’isola si unisce una voglia di rimettersi in gioco, di cambiare vita, fuori dal proprio paese, perché “esauriti dall’Italia”.

“Esauriti dal Berlusconismo, dalla gente che non ha più senso di nulla. E questo lo dice un porno regista…! Non c’è più il senso della collettività, del sé. L’ho fatto anche per la mia famiglia. Ho due figli grandi, studiano tutti e due a Londra. Mia figlia che studiava a Siena, si è sentita dire a chiare lettere, vai via! L’altra, la più piccola, non me la sentivo di farla crescere in Italia … un paese fallito, per dirla alla Grillo.”

Ma la motivazione è anche professionale. Eh sì, perché il Bel Paese, ultimamente, legifera molto, però non a favore di un certo tipo d’impresa. Nel 2009 viene introdotta la porno tax. Con la “fantasia” politica, che contraddistingue l’attuale governo, viene introdotto un 25% in più di addizionale irpef per l’industria del porno (contributo che dovrebbe confluire nel Fondo Unico per lo Spettacolo, e mantenere, praticamente, in piedi i teatri e gli enti lirici a rischio di chiusura. N.d.r.).

“Questo significava”, incalza Monica, “pagare il 75% sul reddito. Ossia, diventare dipendenti di Stato … di questo Stato, poi!”.

“In Spagna, invece, con una s.r.l. è tutta un’altra vita. Alla fine dei conti, e considerate tutte le deducibilità, il risparmio rispetto all’Italia e del 50% circa. Questo riguarda anche i dipendenti. Qui i dipendenti ti costano meno e guadagnano di più. Se un dipendente in Italia guadagna 1.000 euro all’impresa costa 2.000 euro, qui ti costa 1.500…”

Ma, nelle parole di Silvio e Monica si denuncia anche un certo degrado sociale, culturale e la ricerca di uno stile di vita più autentico.

“In Italia, ormai, quello che conta è apparire, vestirsi, comportansi in un certo modo … sei obbligato a consumare…. Ti attacchi a delle stupide consolazioni … per non fermarti a guardare, guardare il nulla. Qui in Spagna siamo tornati ad apprezzare uno stile di vita più vero, le relazioni con le persone, come succedeva da noi … anni fa”.

Formentera, inoltre, al di là dei flussi di turismo estivi, è un posto molto ben preservato, poco costruito. Le autorità sono presenti sul territorio e anche danno incentivi alla cultura, con la creazione di centri culturali, l’appoggio alle mostre di artisti, all’artigianato locale …

“Qui non c’è la cultura del cemento. È un posto che piacerebbe a Celentano !”

Oltre alla propria attività, i due italiani si dedicano anima e corpo, e con molto volontariato, all’organizzazione del primo festival del cinema dell’isola: Il Formentera Film Festival (vedi il programma e le date su Tierra).

“È un progetto che nasce sull’onda dell’entusiasmo e sull’impulso di uno degli organizzatori, Carlo Migotto, che per molti anni ha lavorato per un gruppo di videoteche molto importanti nel Veneto. Assieme a Viviana Calvet organizzano un bellissimo festival in Italia: Lago Film Festival… “

Da lì l’ispirazione di organizzare un festival di cortometraggi (genere molto coltivato in Spagna), calato però nel territorio, come succede per Lago.

“Lì, lo schermo viene messo nell’acqua. Qui utilizziamo le piazzette. Quella bellissima di Sant Francesc … e Formentera diventa anche protagonista delle storie…”

Un progetto che vuole essere per l‘isola e dalla parte dell’isola, coinvolgendo, anche, nelle edizioni future, i ragazzi del luogo per la realizzazione di cortometraggi locali.

“Noi italiani, ormai, diamo il meglio – ma anche il peggio – fuori dall’Italia”, conclude Bandinelli, con il suo bell’accento toscano.

Un trend questo che pare interessare trasversalmente tutte le generazioni: studenti, giovani laureati in cerca del primo posto di lavoro e di opportunità di carriera, ma anche persone con attività proprie, già assestate nella vita.

Che il Bel Paese stia vivendo un’emorragia di “cervelli” e di “pance”?

BARCELLONA, LA SPAGNA CHE SENTE MENO LA CRISI 25/1/2012

Sebbene la crisi abbia colpito duro anche qui, la Spagna continua a rimanere una delle mete preferite, almeno in Europa, per molti italiani che decidono di rifarsi una vita altrove. Non si tratta, ed è importante dirlo, di una provinciale esterofilia a tutti i costi nè di una critica a priori nei confronti dell'Italia: ciò che emerge da molte testimonianze è il modo in cui si vive e lavora anche nei paesi che, economicamente, non stanno meglio di noi. Segno questo di qualcosa che va al di là delle difficoltà pratiche in cui versa un paese. C'è qualcosa che accomuna molte delle storie di nostri connazionali che hanno scelto altri paesi europei per espatriare: ed è il clima umano e sociale con cui in questi paesi, nonostante le difficoltà, si vive e lavora. È il modo in cui lo stato o la burocrazia si relazionano ai cittadini, considerandoli appunto tali. Non siamo, neanche questa volta, qui a raccontare di paradisi in terra e neanche di posti in cui tutto è facile e bellissimo. Ma è innegabile che ciò che emerge ogni volta, sia la testimonianza di una diversità culturale profonda che in Italia rende tutto più pesante e difficile. Nelle storie che ci raccontano i nostri connazionali è sempre presente la consapevolezza che negli altri paesi, alle difficoltà economiche almeno non si aggiunga un atteggiamento vessatorio dello stato e una melmosa burocrazia nella vita quotidiana. E ciò che emerge anche da questa storia: quella di Sandro Cannatella, giovane italiano da qualche anno a Barcellona.

Ciao carissimo, parlaci un po' di te. Cosa facevi prima, in Italia?

Mi sono laureato in scienze e tecnologie alimentari a Catania, ma dal 2006 ho iniziato a lavorare nel campo di internet, gestendo la sezione videogames del sito web di Sky Italia e successivamente, fino al 2008, come giornalista nel campo del cinema.

Come e quando è arrivata Barcellona nella tua vita?

Un mio amico che ci viveva da sei mesi mi raccontò, a fine 2007, di come ci si trovava benissimo sia dal punto di vista professionale sia per la qualità della vita; e visto che a Milano la situazione per me non era delle migliori, decisi di fare il grande passo.

Quali sono gli aspetti della vita in questa città che ti affascinano di più?

Barcellona è una città ricchissima d'opportunità sociali e culturali. Si tratta di un aspetto che mi ha arricchito moltissimo e che mi ha fatto conoscere tante sfumature della vita e delle persone. Inoltre qui ci sono tantissime possibilità, ma bisogna andarsele a prendere.

Anche la Spagna è stata duramente colpita dalla crisi, è inutile negarlo. In cosa si avverte maggiormente? Com'è il clima sociale oggi?

Il cambio più radicale che ho avvertito è stato la riduzione, anche abbastanza netta, delle opportunità di lavoro dal 2008 al 2009; e le cose non sono migliorate negli anni successivi. Le persone sono sempre più coscienti di quello che è il presente e la paura di non avere un futuro li sta stimolando a fare qualcosa di concreto.

Che differenze hai trovato tra il mondo del lavoro in Italia e quello spagnolo?

Qui non ho mai avuto bisogno di raccomandazioni e conoscenze per ottenere un lavoro. Inoltre arrivare ad avere un colloquio è molto piú semplice e per fortuna ci sono molte meno agenzie interinali che in Italia. Ho trovato insomma un sistema molto più meritocratico e competitivo.

La percezione che si ha dall'Italia, è che in molti paesi, pur con le difficoltà del momento, ci sia un clima umano, una certa voglia di reagire che a noi sembrano mancare. È così?

Quando vivevo in Italia avvertivo troppe cose che non andavano, a tutti i livelli, tra cui una disonestà ben vista come garanzia di successo. Personalmente credo che un po' tutti abbiano capito che questo sistema non può funzionare e il sapere che è colpa anche di chi ha accettato tutto questo, sperando di riceverne un beneficio, abbia smorzato la forza di reagire. In Italia mi sembra poi che la televisione sia fin troppo presente nella vita delle persone e a mio avviso questo non permette loro di reagire come dovrebbero, visto come questo mezzo d'informazione può distrarti.

Parlaci del tuo lavoro: cosa fai esattamente?

In questo momento lavoro come Content Manager e giornalista turistico per www.skyscanner.it, il motore di ricerca di voli low cost numero uno in Europa. Inoltre sono Country Manager per una rete di community di single per l'Italia, suddivise per cittá, come ad esempio www.singlemilano.it. Per quest'ultimo lavoro mi occupo di gestire e sviluppare le community d'ogni cittá e gli eventi che organizziamo.

Com'è la qualità della vita oggi a Barcellona?

Il clima, il mare, la sicurezza e i mezzi di trasporto fortunatamente sono rimasti tali nonostante la crisi e questo permette di godere di un'ottima qualità della vita. Personalmente sto benissimo, ma conosco diverse persone che non hanno la mia stessa fortuna. Ci si può poi divertire anche senza spendere soldi e questo non è affatto poco.

Hai avuto qualche particolare difficoltà all'inizio?

Avevo un amico qua che mi ha dato qualche dritta, ma poi ho conosciuto diversa gente abbastanza in fretta e ho trovato il primo lavoro dopo un mese a Barcellona. Con la lingua ho avuto qualche difficoltà, ma dopo qualche corso intensivo (consigliatissimo al contrario degli scambi linguistici) le cose sono migliorate tantissimo.

Che cosa trovi particolarmente stimolante nella vita lì?

Trovo stimolante la possibilità di poter incontrare tanta gente e di come questo mi porti a confrontarmi e a conoscere e condividere tradizioni ed esperienze. Barcellona dal punto di vista umano può arricchire tantissimo.

Cosa fai quando hai un po' di tempo libero?

Quando posso vado in palestra, oppure in giro per la città. Mi piace tantissimo "perdermi" nei quartieri vecchi e a Gracia. La sera, quando posso, esco con amici italiani e catalani.

Una cosa che mi ha colpito di Barcellona è la quantità di piazzette e piccoli angoli che diventano un luogo di ritrovo e condivisione. È una città in cui le persone amano "ritrovarsi". Quanto influisce questo aspetto nella qualità della vita quotidiana? È un clima umano che trovi anche nell'ambiente di lavoro?

Per quel che mi riguarda tantissimo ed è un vero piacere vedere gente di tutte le età o con problemi fisici, uscire comunque di casa e stare assieme ad altre persone. Al lavoro non ho visto la stessa cosa a dire il vero; la maggior parte delle gente mi sembra presissima dal suo proprio e dalla vita personale.

Ciao G, hai mai pensato di trasferirti a Barcellona? Vero che in Spagna c'è crisi, ma a Barcellona ce n'è di meno e visto che con le lingue te la cavi bene e hai un buon curriculum, secondo me te la potresti cavare e arrivare anche a farti cercare tu dalle aziende. La qualità della vita è ottima sia di giorno sia di notte e il clima è invidiabile tutto l'anno. I mezzi di trasporto funzionano benissimo anche di notte e la macchina non ti servirà praticamente mai. Ti ho convinta?
