VKPlayer - what's that?

2012-10-30T22:49:00.000+00:00

Update: The problem with wrong artist names after search has been fixed. Please update to the new version 1.36 below!

VKPlayer is a free music player client for the popular networking site http://www.vk.com (more information can be found on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vkontakte).

NEW VERSION V1.36 Beta available!

now with PLAYLIST HISTORY and
По-русски, English, Deutsch

Simply install the player, login, download and listen to your favourite music online as you would do on http://www.vk.com
-
but with a lot more comfort.

VKontakte, the 2nd largest social network, offers users from all over the world the opportunity to chat with your friends, add photos and videos, and listen to your favourite music online. The network is wide-spread in russian-affine countries, but it's open for all and available in English, Deutsch, Español, Français, 한국어, ภาษาไทย and many more. If you feel unsure about it, take a look at its Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vkontakte

Since I felt somewhat unhappy about their built-in online music player, mainly because it only supports one playlist and does not allow to search while playing, I decided to write this small and free client which tries to combine the favours of a desktop music player with the availability of online music.

For a quick usage tutorial, take a look at the following page here:

Prerequisites/Installation:

Firstly you need an account on vk.com, which is an absolutely free of charge account similar to facebook. The site should turn up in your local language, but if it's not, go to the bottom of their page to change it.
If signed up, you can go on with the installation of the player:

Install Adobe AIR
Install the VK Player and start to dance!

Please feel free to comment and to report bugs in the discussion forums.

Dear User!

If you have any comments or suggestions regarding the VK player, such as a new feature, a change in the design, a missing or badly implemented feature, please describe your wish as comment to this entry. I will read and follow the most mentioned suggestions.

If you encounter errors or bugs and want to report, please use the BUGREPORTS section of this blog for that purpose. (To change to the bugreports section now, click here)
I will really appreciate any of Your help.

Thanks!

Examples

If you report your wish, to change or create a new function for the player, please formulate your request as precise as possible, maintaining understandability.
Some examples for requests could be:

I would like to change the background color to pink
I dont like that I need to click the delete key to delete a song. I would prefer dragging it out of the player (like throwing away) or into a bin, so I can recover it, if deleted erroneously
If I am searching for a song, it takes sooo long (around 15 seconds, search example: "wall"), couldn't you speed it up? (<5 seconds)

Please feel free to mention anything possible, as long as it fits to the application.
I'm looking forward to reading your request,

Thanks

Dear VK player user!

This page is outdated.
Please use the new discussion forums at:

http://groups.google.com/group/vk-player-forums

If you encounter any error or failure, any inexpected behaviour during the use of the VK player, so called "bugs", please submit your bug-report in the comments section of this post to help to increase the player's quality.

If you feel uncomfortable using the player because of some missing features or bad design of the application, please use the comment-section to describe your hint or complain (to change to the comment section, click here).

I will try to improve the player's reliabilty and decrease fatal errors as much as possible. Please keep in mind that this is a totally free project, so it might happen that certain bugs will only slowly be worked on.
Nonetheless I appreciate any bug report and will try my best to fix it.

Thanks!

Examples

If you submit a bug, try to mention in first place, the error(s) encountered (messages popping up, crash popups, ...). In second place please mention as many information as possible, which are, in your eyes, connected with the bugs occurence, the bugs environment, which is, in a first place, your player's version number. And additionally, if you don't mind, the language of your vkontakte account, since lots of bugs have been language specific up to now.

Examples could be:

"I searched for mean man and the player said "Generic HTML error". I searched again and it worked". My version is V1.01 Beta
"Everytime I open the player since yesterday, it comes up with a popup "exception xyz..." My version is V1.02 Beta
When I try to load a playlist, song xyz doesn't load My version is V0.99
Since I changed from German to Russian language, everything is messed up. I always get error "HTTPService could not access". I am not sure about my version, but it's no beta (should be > V1.3).

Of course, keep in mind, to add as much detail as possible, so I can track down its source.

Thanks for Your help!
