SWL will host ‘Takoyaki Boys’ book launch in GenSan

The Sarangani Writers League (SWL) will host the ‘Takoyaki Boys and other Stories' book launch on August 6, 2022, 4 PM, at Coffee By George café, in General Santos City. It is the first book of Carlou Barroca Espedillon, a SWL member, published by an independent publishing house Rebo Press.

The book launch will have a meet-and-greet that includes a book signing and interview session with the author; spoken word performances and socialization with other local writers.

Espedillon is a young writer from Alabel, Sarangani Province. He started writing when he was a fifth grade student as an editorial writer for the campus press – something that he did for the next ten years.

He took up Bachelor of Science in Education major in English at the Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges. He is also known as "Lolo Penguin."

Espedillon began writing creative fiction and non-fiction in 2017, a radical shift from his core writing foundation as a campus journalist. Although some of his short stories were published on zines and literary anthologies, his latest book ‘Takoyaki Boys and other Stories' proves that he can now call himself a “published author.”

“’Takoyaki Boys and Other Stories’ started as a compilation in Wattpad, in the hopes that one day if a publisher wants to pick me, I can easily compile these works. Last 2020, Rebo Press organized the Esperma Grant, which gives writers a chance to be published. I submitted ‘Takoyaki Boys and Other Stories’ because of that opportunity,” Espedillon said.

“I don’t know if they assumed that I live in Luzon simply because I have a slightly significant social media presence. But I think I can use my small influence to showcase that Sarangani Province has a lot of literary talents worth showcasing,” Espedillon added.

As part of supporting local writers in Sarangani, SWL organized such an event to help raise awareness of literary talents in the province.

“SWL exists because of our shared passion in promoting local literature. This book launch is just one of the many ways to help advance the literary scene in Sarangani. In SWL, we take pride in our members' accomplishments — whether it involves writing or not. The organization took the initiative to organize this book launch considering that Espedillon's debut book is a milestone not just for the writing community but even for the whole province,” SWL Chairperson Xaña Angel Eve Apolinar said.

“I am hoping, as the chairperson, that this event will open more doors, rekindle lost passion, and inspire more writers to contribute, preserve, and promote our Sarangani literature,” she said.

AFP initiates 1st Youth Summit in Tboli town

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) through its 11th Special Forces Company (Riverine) conducted the 1st Tboli Inter-Cultural Youth Leadership Summit (YLS), with a theme – “Competitive and Responsive Youth Leaders,” at Motorpool, Barangay Poblacion, Tboli, South Cotabato. The six-day event, that ran from June 6 to 11, 2022, recognizes the role of the youth in nation building.

Some 87 youth representatives from 25 barangays of the municipality participated in the said youth event. The youth summit aimed to provide an avenue for the youth to enhance their leadership skills, good citizenship and patriotism, cooperation and participation through various peace-building activities and youth focused initiatives.

“This event showcases the role of youth in nation-building and its support on peace development. For my fellow youth, let us support and unite in the aspirations of our government for a good and peaceful country,” Youth for Peace South Cotabato President John Mark L. Rufino said.

“This is part of the mechanism of NTF-ELCAC’s unification cluster. Our society is mostly composed of the youth. We need to build up and empower the youth to redirect them into significant things,” 11th Special Forces Company (Riverine) Commanding Officer Cpt. Krisjuper Andreo Punsalan said.

In his interview with Philippine Information Agency, Cpt. Punsalan noted that the youth, especially those from "conflict-affected areas" and "geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs)" are more susceptible to the recruitment of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its armed wing, the NPA.

The recent engagement with the youth discussed the effects of insurgency on a peaceful society and the menace of illegal drugs. Cpt. Punsalan said the army continues to engage the younger generation on pressing issues and encourage their participation in fruitful talks about nationalism, patriotism, and culture transformation.

The army official said that this is not only a military activity. It is a whole-of-nation approach to stop the recruitment of our youth, especially the Indigenous People, of NPA terrorists and other terrorist groups; and to keep them away from illegal drugs and other vices.

Guest speakers from different government agencies and non-government organizations shared topics such as ‘Role of the Youth in Nation Building’, ‘Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law’, ‘Responsible Sharing of Information’, ‘Social Media for Advocacy’, ‘Solid Waste Management’ and ‘First Aid Response’.

Cpt. Punsalan also said that LGU Tboli is planning to replicate the activity and make YLS an annual municipal activity to empower the youth to become part of community-building, inculcate positive values and attitude and enhance their leadership potentials.

The Inter-Cultural YLS was organized by the AFP (11th Special Forces Company/Riverine) in partnership with Youth for Peace South Cotabato, with the support of LYDO Tupi, Youth for Peace Movement (TALBOS), LGU Tboli, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of Tboli, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), and Tribal Leaders Development Foundation Inc. John Riz Sevilla, a member of three youth organizations, SULONG SAN PABLO, SAN PABLO YOUTH LEADERS, and most recently THE UPSOCIOLOGY
SOCIETY was invited to discuss his story in multiple youth organizations that he
belongs to the Bilib kami sayo guest on August 21, 2021.

The San Pablo Youth Leaders Organization aims to engage, encourage, and empower every youth to participate in their community, with the highlights of this organization being to maximize the cultural and historical value of their city. Next is Sulong San Pablo, which encourages youth to participate in youth activities and is currently launching a Voter Registration program called "Tanglaw 2022," which will guide first-time voters in the upcoming 2022 election.
Lastly, The PUP sociology Society, a group organization that raised awareness and stand regarding issues in society.

Mr. Sevilla has recently been a part of the development of a Youth Program or Youth Organization called "SINAG" (Strong Institution Nurturing and Attainment Goals), which they developed after presenting at the Priest Pacific Leader Academy in Antipolo. And their goal is to reduce the number of people who are bullied.

Mr. Sevilla's greatest lesson he learned is that love encompasses not only romantic love but also love for youth and love for the country.

AntiDrug Abuse, for the Bilib kami sayo Guest Segment of Voice of the Youth Radio Season 2 Episode 4 where we can focus on what we can provide to the Youth, especially in the midst of the pandemic where activities are prohibited by the government
under the Quarantine system due to the Covid-19 Virus Spread.
Apart from his advocacy, he is also an SK official who assists their Barangay in providing assistance to their community. During the Lockdown, he mentioned that one of the issues they had was handling the community's budget.

However, his family and friends' love and support motivate him to pursue his passion and continue to grow his skills and self-awareness so that he can better serve his community and people.

Mr. Dave's message on how he can encourage Youths in today's generation to participate in various community activities ended the interview by saying “Challenge yourself to do something positive in every opportunity to have a deeper understanding of oneself.”

Pau Castillo is a Digital Marketing Strategist, a writer at the same time a Voice artist. An empowered woman who take the risk to challenge herself through a workshop in CVAP and now become a part of VGA radio and host of Success voices that aims to shows-case various people that share their own success story.

Ms. Castillo also shares that finding the power in your voice is the relevance of being a Voice artist, realizing that we have the potential in using the power of a resource that is readily available for us, which is voice.

Believing in yourself is something that we must start before anything else. Changing how you think and set your own goals will make you into your success story.

Since it’s Women’s Month, Ms. Pau Castillo asks how she can empower women through her voice, she simply said that through hosting in Success Voices she had the platform to inspire people and ignite certain sense in people to encourage in pursuing their best version of their self.

This episode shows us that Opportunity is always in front of us, we just need to grab it, it doesn’t matter if you don’t have that 100 percent readiness, and you just need to have the courage to take that opportunity in front of you.

The Chairperson and Founder of Lipad Kabataan, which aims to improve people's lives by empowering the next generation to action.
Enrico Marquez Jr., share his story and how he lead and unite the youth to take action and find opportunities to help despite the global health crisis.

In the Segment, Mr. Marquez states that he is a teacher, Public Information officer, a Volunteer, and a chairperson and founder of a national youth organization that advocates Youth involvement and Youth empowerment, that aims to give Youths a platform that can make powerful programs and builds meaningful connections and partnerships with a various organization with the same goal that centers in Environmental protection, Poverty and Hunger alleviation and education for all.

The organization started when Mr. Marques was an OFW in Vietnam, and when the pandemic started to emerge. He decided to go back to the Philippines After he learned the situation of the people under the community Lockdown formally gathered and encourage youths to have the power to serve the people that would help out in addressing societal issues.

Lipad Kabataan also shares the programs and projects they already implemented; first, the Tulong kay Tsuper Initiative that supports Jeepney drivers that affect by the lockdown, this project has 4 Phase. Second, Care Kits program, where they purchased Multivitamins, medicines, Thermometer, and Blood pressure monitoring device. Third, One of the biggest projects of Lipad Kabataan, The Masagana-Ani project, which empowers farmer communities, and Lastly, the Community Pantry that gives logistic Support. However, in this face of success, the organization also encounters Challenges. We cannot invalidate that success has come from failures. We just need to continue to do what we love and look for the people who always believe in what we can do.

Leading this Generation of Youth was never an easy Job especially now that our Nation is facing A Crisis due to this Pandemic. That is why we consider those Young Leaders who stand brave enough to lead this Generation as a New Hero of this Generation because they continue to serve despite this Pandemic.

Last October 10, 2020, Voice of the Youth Network introduced to us a Leader who is Brave enough to conquer and champion the struggles and difficulties that a Youth Leader is Facing nowadays during this time of Pandemic. They Introduce to us the SK Chairperson of Longos, Malolos Bulacan none other than Ms. Miel Artha Agustin in their segment “Bilib Kami Sayo”

She was a Secretary of Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of Malolos and also an Outstanding Servant Leader of Bulacan State University in Year 2018, She was also a nominee for Gintong Kabataan Category and now works as An SK Chairperson of Longos.

With all her achievements we can truly say that she was such a Great and Amazing Leader and She did his Job well enough. She shared with us on the show about the projects that they've accomplished during the Pandemic.

On the First Wave of the Pandemic, they Provide Alcohol and Handwashing soap for the Frontliners and Families of Longos, On the Second Wave, they thought about the Solo Parents on their Barangay who has a baby to feed that is why they provide Fortified Milk for Every Single Parent who has a Baby to be fed and as the Pandemic continue they also continue serving their people in as best as they can because now they consider the very need of their people and that is Food so they come up with the idea of providing breakfast for their ka-Barangay.

They called this Project “Agahan Caravan”. It runs for a month wherein they (The SK Council) personally prepare the food and distribute it to the people. What an Amazing Project! And for the students of Longos, they provided 300 pieces of a tool kit for online and modular classes.

Despite all these SK Chairperson Miel Artha has faced many difficulties in her leadership because true enough that being a Leader or a Youth Leader was never an easy job and one of the major problems that she faced in her leadership is her Gender being a part of the LGBT community because some Youth in Longos has different views when it comes to Gender Equality, some of them doubt and question their Right and their Ability to lead.

And as SK Miel Artha share on the show, some doesn't support their projects because of the same issue but even though it is hard for them they continue to do their best to serve the Youth of their Barangay as she says “We cannot please everybody” and that is indeed true and that was an act of Bravery.

But given the fact that she needs to face all this, it gives her more strength and motivation to fight for her advocacy. As an LGBT Rights Advocate, she does her best to take on her part in fighting for equal rights because she believes that all of us whatever gender we have we are able and capable to do things that would benefit us, others, and especially our Nation.

SK Miel Artha only proves to us that in Leadership, it is not about Gender but it is the ability, wisdom, passion, and the Heart to lead that makes Leadership a Successful One.

We Salute you SK Chairperson Miel Artha for standing up for this Generation and fighting for their rights especially for our Fellow Youth who is a part of the LGBT Community,

CEO: Knowing Your Self is the Key

“Konichiwa.” A joyous greeting from Mr. Juveriel Casanova Depay Tenio, the guest of Voice of the Youth (VOTY) Live’s episode 3 of season 2 Bilib Kami Sa ‘yo segment. He is a youth leader serving as the secretary and co-founder of Creative Entrepreneurs Organization.

Mr. ViBryant Voice asks Mr. Tenio to introduce his self furthermore. The guest shared that he was used to be called “Yan-Yan” but he prefers to be called “Juvs” from his first name Juveriel. He also boasted that he was once an exchange student who was given the chance to travel to Japan through Asian Cultural Exchange Program from 2019 to 2020 before the pandemic arises. Currently, he is an advocate of Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations specifically Active Citizenship and Social Entrepreneurship. A senior high school student taking Accountancy and Business Management.

To give the audience a background about the CEO, Mr. Liam requested Mr/ Tenio to lay a little preview of what and how is Creative Entrepreneurs Organization functioning in the community. The guest presented CEO as a Youth Serving Organization and a Research Institute-based Organization that encourages the youth to be active in the society through doing social entrepreneurship in the way starting on social problems and many other more.

Mr. Tenio presented his slides about Cultural & Sustainability in route to Social Entrepreneurship. He gave the audience an easy passport to Japan through a short video about the country. After showing the video presentation, he then asks what’s comes to people’s minds when they hear about Japan. Mr. Liam answered that Japan emphasizes their uniqueness through their culture and way of life through their clothing, food, and many other things which Mr. Tenio agreed upon.

The guest presented things he saw in Japan that he what to apply to our country. First is the Vendo Machines that are easily be accessed and can be found anywhere. Other is the Drinking Fountains and the better Waste Disposal of Japan. They politely clean their garbage before disposing or recycling it. Lastly is the transportation that is so timely, punctual and organized that is clearly distinguishable from the Philippines’ transportation system.

Mr. Tenio explains what and how to solve Social Problems that cause Social dilemmas because businesses fell short on social value and social impact. He listed the kinds of social problems sourced from the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, namely, corruption, terrorism, prostitution, poverty, child labor, overpopulation, unemployment, lack of health care. Mr. Tenio then proudly spoke about the CEO and its method for the resolution of this social problem which is the Gold Mining Approach and Method. Prospecting/Surveying. The method starts with reaching out to the subject, then breaking the barrier separating the subject from the society and bringing them back to it. They are then dressed for the occasion, this means that they are nurtured and be made into a creature whose worth is more than gold.

For the end part of the segment, Mr. Tenio was asked by Mr. Liam the question “what is your greatest why, reason, inspiration, that keeps you motivated in doing the thing you are passionate about?” The guest answered, define the social problems to identify the reason why you are contributing to the resolution of those social problems.

The Sarangani SK: YOUTH OF TODAY, FUTURE OF TOMORROW

Taking up responsibilities over a rather large community as a youth is both impressive yet pressuring-bringing. The youth today is slowly getting involved in a lot of socio-political stances and activities, making the traditional 'Sagguiniang Kabataan' innovate into a more able organ in the society and help in a lot of duties, especially in empowering the youth. While many are still hesitant and doubtful of what the youth can do, a significant number of courageous youth make the government function.

In another episode of Voice of the Youth radio, two SK chairpersons from Mindanao, specifically Sarangani, were invited to share some of their activities, events, programs and experiences. Hon. Remon R. Vilbestre is the SL chairperson of Brgy. Labangal in Sarangani, who has been handling the council during this pandemic. He revealed that just like other SK councils, they were advocating for mental health and teenage pregnancy. They aimed to connect with their youth constituents by highlighting the most pressing issues that are relevant to them. However, he also explained that since combating this pandemic is the priority, funds for the SK projects were tight, which is why their council is maximizing and making do with what they have.

Additionally, among their conducted projects were Kultura at Kabataan, Music and Arts Gala 2021, Sumerlympics 2021, GenSan Young Leaders Summit, and Young Entrpreneurship Boot Camp. To close off, Remon said that the youth should use their skills and talents in being a leader and helping the community.

ASEAN Network Youth: Established by a Young Leader

Establishing an organization that concerns a lot of issues and more importantly is affiliated to a bigger body itself is a big shot to a bigger advocacy. However, a lot of our youth today has been stepping up the game in leadership and initiative in establishing such, despite the crisis the world is facing today. A lot of reasons caused the youth to do such things and it is very impressive to see that they do it out of their own will and sensibility. This is also one proof that the youth is improving their leadership more and more through the years and this sheds light to more hope for the future.

The Voice of the Youth Radio guested another youth leader on their episode with Papa Lem and DeliKate Voice. A biology student in Mindanao State University was invited to talk about the ASEAN Network Youth in which she is a secretary. Kristiana Marie Guisadio is one of the establishing officers of the said organization whose main objective is to work as one with the ASEAN itself and to branch out the purposes of it. She broke down the slow process of the bringing up of ANY, along with other youth leaders that initiated the act to the success of its establishment and therefore having great connections with different ambassadors from ASEAN countries.

Kristiana is still a very young leader but one could see the passion and willingness in her when she talks about her organization. It is proud to see young teens like her achieve so much in works for the greater good and aiming for a lot of improvement in the youth community of today. She mentioned that the ASEAN Network Youth wants to bring out the best in the youth of ASEAN countries and empower them to the best of their abilities. Lastly, she added that despite the pandemic, we can still utilize our time in a much meaningful way.

Fatin Anne Life Changing Advocacies

VG8 radio recognizes people who have made a significant contribution to the industry so that people can get to know it better and spread their purpose not only to the youth but also to the elderly. And one of them was the guest they invited, none other than Ms. Fatin Anne Roma.

Ms. Fatin Anne works and provides services in the business also developed by her parents who she started working for in November 2019. Lifeline Rehabilitation Center has been able to provide services to people who are suffering from drug addiction, alcoholism, and so on.

DOH has accredited Lifeline Rehabilitation on February 14, 2015, a treatment facility or rehabilitation center was established with the goal of assisting people who need to improve their lives and are suffering from anxiety and addiction as a result of a variety of external and internal causes caused by the environment and others. Residential Drug and Alcohol Treatment located at 0315 Aguinaldo Highway, Lalaan 2nd, Silang Cavite.

In Cavite, Lifeline is a well-known treatment and rehabilitation center. The center has a dedicated and trained professional staff as well as committed recovering addicts who help people with behavioral issues, drug addiction, alcoholism, and depression.

Ms.Fatin Anne also built a community pantry to help people that are in need in their community, she also calls for donations to provide in getting whatever needs for their program and post it to her social media accounts. YOU'RE NOT ALONE: A Mental Health Advocacy

The pandemic that started last year did not only affect people economically, socially, and physically. One major result of the sudden change in lifestyle due to the lockdowns and social distancing is the constant need for contact which unfortunately is now limited, hence, a huge jab on everyone's mental health. This caused the rise of many youth advocates for mental stability as the youth today is most sensitive to being unstable and unhealthy on those terms. The continuing phenomenon of having to stay apart makes it worse for many and this is the goal of many advocates— to help motivate mentally unstable people and to promote the importance of mental health.

Rain Lapuz is one of these mental health advocates from this generation's youth, an able part of the community that promotes the importance and visibility of mental health, as well as those people who are struggling to maintain its stability. On her guesting in the Voice of the Youth Radio last May 1, 2021, the third year medical technology student shared that being an advocate on mental health during this trying time is more challenging than handling events and people face to face. Since mental health instability manifests in physical image and habits, it is very easy for people who are struggling to hide them behind the camera and shy away from the attention or help reaching out to them. Rain mentioned that this is one of the major challenges in being part of this movement.

She also shared that she chose to advocate more on this subject because it is not only now that it is relevant to her and her surroundings but always, and it is very important to make it take up space in discussing pressing and concerning issues. Additionally, she pointed out that advocating mental health is also to break the stigma that mentally unstable people are only seeking attention or following a trend. Rain wanted society to understand that physical appearance could not easily predict one's mental stability.

"Your mental health matters as much as your physical and emotional well-being." Rain left this statement to her fellow youth as a reminder to preserve your mental health the best way that you can, in order to prevent further struggles to take place. While many people are mentally agile and strong, we all have a breaking point and we are vulnerable to pain and anxieties. Saving yourself from this does not only help you to be okay in every aspect of life but also lets you maintain a safe and healthy relationship with the people around you.

Beauty Pageants serve as a platform to showcase your talent, creativity, and elegance. but for the Miss Earth Delegate 2021 Claire Codillo, beauty pageants can be a way to make use of your voice in order to make an impact and change the world; As a first-time candidate in this kind of national competition, Claire was very excited to promote her advocacy, which is the importance of solid waste management and how sustaining the world can be the key to achieving a healthier and wealthier community.

During the interview on the “Bilib Kami Sa'yo” segment of Voice Of The Youth Network (VOTY) last June 6, 2021, Claire shared the importance of finding your voice and finding ways to make it happen. This is because aside from being a candidate and advocate of protecting Mother Earth, the 26 year old Ms. Lapu-Lapu City candidate is also an event host and radio talent. In addition to that, she is also the Founder of Project Kalipay (Project Happiness) which envisions to value the art of sharing, especially to the less fortunate such as street children. Upon 3 years of establishing this project, they have been able to successfully extend their hands with the help of donations from different Samaritans around the country.

"You have the influence, So I have to be a good influence." Ms. Codillo said.

Even though Covid-19 affected many aspects of the world including the Hosting Industry, Ms. Claire is still looking for room to improve her horizons, In fact, she is a CVAP Batch 5 graduate under CreatiVoices Production. She initially joined the program for the reason that she wants to improve and develop her voice and hosting skills. She is also part of the Balik Turismo Program in Lapu-Lapu City which aims to promote the beauty of Cebu with restrictions and health protocols. Through her dedication and capabilities, she managed to get back to hosting gigs and AVP commercials. Our voice is big enough to use as a superpower to counter all of the mainstream problems in the world", she added.

Claire Codillo certainly proves her point as she really solely made use of her voice to capture the heart of the audience and the youth. Her main goal is to empower the world and make it a safe place by spreading good wisdom and standing as a role model, especially to the future generation.

The Public Service of the Philippines has always been full of bad assumptions and negative accusations, but for the Brgy. Katangawan SK Alfredo Santander III, “if you give your whole heart to this kind of work, you will be able to make a change. You can divert the perspective of the citizens through your good intention and willingness to help and serve the people”.

During an interview on the “Bilib Kami Sa'yo” segment of Voice of the Youth Network (VOTY) last April 24, 2021, SK Thirdy inspired the youth and opened up about his mission to utilize his position as the SK chairperson. Despite being one of the smallest barangays in General Santos City, SK Thirdy was awarded as the Outstanding SK on health in 2019 from the National Youth Communications (NYC). It became possible because of his dedication and engagement to community work, especially when it comes to promoting the importance of health in society.

Aside from standing as a youth leader, Thirdy is a registered nurse and a graduate student from the University of the Philippines (UP) Manila School of Health Allied and Sciences. He is also a community health worker and a midwife. It is truly visible indeed that he values serving other people because other than his many titles and responsibilities, he still manages to be a Telemedicine nurse at the 'FPOP your hotline Philippines' where they offer free online check-ups for patients around the country.

Sangguniang Kabataan is meant to only represent the youth in a specific community, but SK Thirdy had a vision and gave his best shot in extending his projects around Region XII. That is why Thirdy and his team now have partnerships with other barangay officials that each focus on the most important needs of the community such as the following projects:

●Oplan HIV 101- Health project envision to eradicate the spread of HIV and AIDS

●Project KaBaIsk (Kapit Bahay Iskwelahan)- provide E- learning services for out of school youth.

●Adopt a Community- aims to develop the community status in the aspect of farming and gardening.

●Project Bahaghari- Extend their appreciation to the LGBTQI+community and to stop the discrimination to receive equal rights.

The past year has been challenging because of the COVID-19 outbreak, but SK Thirdy had unstoppable motivation and extended his helping hands to help the community in any way that he could such as contact tracing and doing volunteer work to support Brgy. Katangawan. And according to him, "Ipagpatuloy natin ang nais nating gawin, As long as gusto natin 'yan makukuha at matatapos natin 'yan. Makilahok at Patuloy na Makibahagi.”

As humans, no excellence in life can be acquired without constant practice just like how Lady Catherine De Bourgh in the classic novel Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen would say it. With every seed of potential we have and the heart that desires excellence in a particular field, it can grow powerful given the right time, vision, and practice.

This is true for vlogger and one of TikTok's fastest rising influencers gaining 300k followers and 1 million likes in just two months - Benjohn Tribiana, also known as 'Almighty Bro.

He is the guest at Voice of the Youth Network's (VOTY) Episode 46 of "Bilib: Kami Sa'yo" live online segment last May 29 where he shared how his heart's desire for content creation became possible through relentless practice and passion to pursue the things that he loves.

Sharing about himself, Tribiana revealed that he is a Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting graduate at Adventist University of the Philippines. However, despite having the degree, he doesn't want to become an employee and do office work.

What Benjohn wants to pursue is to become a content creator creating inspirational and creative videos to inspire and bring value to other people on different social media platforms.

He started publishing videos on Youtube last 2017, uploading original short cinematic films, travel vlogs, and various content that gained thousands of views and subscribers over time.

Recently this year, he created a TikTok account - another top online video social media platform, where he started his segment 'Advice by Bro', together with his friends Kirby Reselosa and Cezar Del Fuente, posting life-advising and lesson-bearing one-minute videos

"Yung flavor namin is parang nag-uusap lang kami. Casual lang. Kung ano masasabi namin sa topic na ganito and then we talk about it then pinopost lang namin sa TikTok".

Their videos revolve around love, career, relationships, friendship, women empowerment, values, and societal issues where they will share their sentiments, views, encouragement, and advice while sitting and talking to each other in a casual setting. This catchy and relatable content was well received and gained them thousands of followers.

"We want to bring back yung parang turo talaga... yung parang values ng ating parents..."

However, despite the growing success in this field, it is not new to us that just like other content creators, Benjohn also receives bash and criticisms from some online viewers.

"Hindi kami masyadong nag paapekto...relax lang kasi yun nga, dagdag engagement rin yun sayo... kung gusto mo talagang i-promote yung craft mo, yung value..."

While interesting content is a big factor to become a successful influencer, neat and appealing video editing is never out of the list. Benjohn revealed that he is not good at editing videos at first and was also challenged in promoting his craft.

"Noong nag video ako sa sarili ko, hindi siya maganda, like, ang pangit sobra!"

But no one becomes proficient without attempting to learn a particular skill. He invested his time in practicing editing features to make his videos more smooth-transitioned and visually appealing to the viewers. He strived to reach his goal of becoming the Influencer he wants to be.

As of this writing, Almighty Bro's TikTok account is already followed by almost 450k followers and has garnered almost 3 Million likes. He uploads videos daily and interacts with his viewers on the online platforms he's in.

More than sharing his story about his pursuit of passion, he wants to encourage everyone, especially the youth, to do the things that they love, what makes them happy, and to have a heart that perseveres.

"As long as you are doing your craft, na yung parang masaya ka diyan sa ginagawa mo, just keep pushing kasi eventually, mare-reach mo rin yung top."

The Influencer also encourages his fellow men at General Santos City to get into the art of content creation as it is a door for opportunities, art, business, and expressing one self's talent and creativity.

"We should be able to measure the knowledge, attitude, and practices of each Filipino youth." The emerging number of youth advocates in the Philippines did not only start today. The initiative could be traced from years back and Samantha Javier, proved to be a fruit of this journey. Samantha guested last January 23 on the 28th episode of Voice of the Youth Line SSEAYP Conference 2021 in their segment, 'Bilib Kami Sa'yo', where she shared her experiences as a youth advocate and her advocacies as well. From being a Development Communication student in UP Diliman, Sam shared that taking a part in being a youth advocate did not only let her explore the advocacies in the Philippines but a larger network of youth in South East Asia.

Taking up the responsibility to spread youth advocacy from the Philippines to the world is not quite a hard task. But to hear Sam Javier talk about how it is a very challenging yet fulfilling task makes it more encouraging to take part in the movement. Additionally, Sam is currently a teacher by profession and an entrepreneur. Both careers are hard to juggle but Sam assured that it is indeed what satisfies her, and enables her to continue spreading her advocacy through teaching.

Samantha emphasized her advocacy— only two types of literacy. First is media and information literacy, and disaster literacy. She explained that while the two of them have different meanings and application, they both work hand in hand and could be understood under the same context. With the prevailing use and demand of the internet and social media today, she advocates the youth to be careful and to practice critical thinking when dealing with encounters online such as with news, updates, etc. The dangers around us also posed by different causes such as natural occurrences or man-made requires us to be more ready and equipped with the right information and knowledge to survive these events. Disaster literacy could actually save our lives in times of need.

Needless to say, both being literate and knowledgeable in filtering information off social media with regards to danger or disaster is what Samantha aims for the youth to understand. This is very relevant today not only to the youth but to the majority of us Filipinos. Lastly, it is very important to have people like her to constantly remind us and are very much involved in these issues to raise awareness and campaign their advocacies for the greater good.

“Project GenZine was just an idea before but because of the Positive Youth Development Network, it turned into a reality.” This was shared by Charles Niel Tupas, the executive head of the Project Genzine as he trudges his way on his own pedestal. According to them, Positive Youth Development Network Incorporation is the Philippines’ pioneering youth development and accrediting network dedicated to building strong, socially-aware and sustainable youth organizations responsive to the evolving needs and opportunities of the country. Project GenZine is derived from; "Generals" and "Zine". The former came from “The Generals’” which refers to the people in GenSan and the latter is from “magaZine” where they will publish their own magazine in September that centers about the awareness in HIV/AIDS which then be distributed to schools, libraries, and even digital platforms.

Project GenZine is a national finalist of Young Heroes Initiative-High Five (YHI-HF) by the Positive Youth Development Network (PYDN). Charles recalled that from 50 aspiring teams, they conquered the search and are now part of the Final 6. According to him, the YHI-HF started in September 2020 and they were announced as part of the Final 6 last December thus they finally started in January. Project GenZine’s founding members are as follows; Charles Neil Tupas (Executive Head), Frances Royce Ofracio (Finance Committee Head), Dohniero Lozano (Creative Media Committee Head), Anna Mariel Wakat (Communication Committee Head), and Clyde Almaden (Mentor). Their team at first was composed of 5 members but as they grow and widen, they already have 55 members.

Charles said that their team is the pioneer of the YHI-HF. And for their batch, they focus on HIV/AIDS Awareness with a goal to raise awareness for the said health issue. “Our team’s twist that makes us unique is through campus journalism wherein our members, who are writers, are from different secondary schools in General Santos.” Through campus journalism, the scope of their target audience has become wider and larger to proliferate important plethora of information. Charles believes that sex education should be adhered the call of teaching to younger generation as they are the ones who are in the prone of such societal issues and sex education is a one way to address the alarming cases about overpopulation, teenage pregnancy, and HIV/AIDS.

Charles also added that our situation right now, where everyone is at the comfort of their own homes and where the rights to proper education is limited and insufficient, younger generations tend to act beyond and without their initial knowledge about these uncertainties thus societal dilemmas continue to elevate. Charles foresees if the pandemic didn’t happen, their team would move and serve better for the welfare of the younger generation. He said that they would have more people to serve and will become more productive. On the contrary, the pandemic didn’t halt Charles to engage and participate more in achieving greatness and their goals.

He himself had gone through various outreach programs wherein they visited far-flung areas in GenSan to give food packs and he’s also part of an organizing team that caters youth events. He’s been part of different councils and organizations that continue to hone and develop his leadership skills and continue to build youth empowerment and engagement. He left such astonishing remarks, “To all the Filipino youth, your cooperation is a must. Let's all work together in aiming a better Philippines. We have a lot of ideas, and we are very creative and passionate in doing what we love. Let's be a responsible citizen, we should follow the law, and help our government as much as we could.”

Last January, Gonzales was a guest on "Voice of the Youth Live!" episode 26, wherein he highlighted one of his organizations, OSYAF, in a segment called "Bilib Kami Sayo!" According to Gonzales, OSYAF is an online community organization for youth leaders founded in March 2020 by Mr. Mark Jacinto, with the goal of strengthening commitment and simplifying discussions about the Sustainable Development Goals.

"When there is opportunity, there is a chance." he stated. As someone who has a lot of organizations aside from OSYAF such as Rotary Act, ANCLA, Ako Bakwit Incorporated, etc... he believes that opportunities are countless and one should make a move to do the unexpected.

The determination and passion of Mr. Renan Gonzales to take the action makes us all believe that the best way to predict the future is to create it.

A Youth Advocate for Climate Change: Diane Devera Exconde

Advocating for any cause or movement requires a reason and purpose— this was what Diane Devera Exconde emphasized when she guested on the May 1st, 2021 episode of Voice of the Youth Radio. Despite her young age, Diane is already involved in a lot of outside campus organizations that are beneficial to many movements in the society. Impressively, she is only a freshman at the Laguna State Polytechnic University who is majoring in BS Office Administration. Diane saw the opportunity of entering college to be a gateway to widen her network in advocating her beliefs, especially regarding the environment.

During the episode where Diane guested, she shared her advocacies about environmental concerns, especially climate change. She pointed out that while there are larger companies, groups, infrastructures and such that contribute to climate change, we should also admit as individuals that we do activities that affect the environment just the same. Diane made it a point that hearing out and letting advocacies for the good to affect us because people like her are trying their hardest to help the society in the most possible way that they can.

"We live because Earth lives." The young advocate left this message to her fellow youth, a statement that she hopes to be received in a positive manner and be a good influence to many. While she highlighted her environmental advocacies, Diane also did not forget to mention her personal beliefs that actually became one of her biggest motivations to stand as an advocate. Her religion, which is Christianity, helped her a lot in reflecting and realizing things that pushed her to become an instrument of the youth towards change and improvement of our society.

Diane is also a mental health advocate and is affiliated to Mental Health Philippines.

Andrew San Fernando, commonly known as 'Kuya Bonjing' is a Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Communication (ABBRC). He used to be a supplemental trainer at BPO, but now he works as a radio DJ at 93.9 iFM. Back in the year 2013, Andrew became a member of Voice of the Youth Network (VOTY) where he learned and experienced treasurable moments he kept for life.

Looking back to his VOTY moments, Andrew met different people with the same principle as him to "INFORM, INSPIRE, INVOLVE, and EMPOWER". He also mentioned the application of VOTY in TAYO AWARD of the National Youth Commission, The Ten Accomplished Youth Organizations (TAYO) Awards is a giving-award program that supports the outstanding contribution of Youth organizations that made an action through Social media regarding Societal Issues in the country.

He also mentioned the conferences and conventions that helped him grow and reach where he is right now. He believes that what he achieves today,VOTY, still gave a greater impact on his life. He became a host for five different shows that helped him to pursue his career and passion. He believes that his exposure to VOTY while studying helps him develop his character, attitude, working habits, etiquette, and in dealing with other people. He learned the power of sharing your knowledge because he believes that it is not something that could lessen you as a person if you help and recognize others' growth. He also became a speaker at various conventions and seminars.

His Message to VOTY members is to continue the fire, the activeness in serving Voice of the Youth Network. He commended the Founder of the Philippine Center for Voice Acting.

Mr. Pocholo De Leon Gonzales, for believing in their talents and for giving them an opportunity that changes their lives. He is also overwhelmed to meet and have the VoiceMaster as his mentor. Furthermore, he also encourages the Youths to join the VOTY, and congratulates the members that choose the organization that can surely change their lives, because in VOTY no one is left behind.

As the world unravels new discoveries with the help of Science and Technology, the “Bilib Kami Sa'yo” guest, Mia Gratil, also navigates her dreams to pursue medicine by challenging herself to understand Science, and how it affects the world. During her webinar interview on Voice Of The Youth (VOTY) Network last November 28, 2020, Mia expound how she became the External Affairs Officer of 'Atom Pinoy', and how it really affected her perception in understanding Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. As a senior high "Health Allied" student at University of Santo Tomas (UST), Mia showcased her knowledge and love for Science by joining different organizations like UST SHS Future Scientist Club, where she is the President. One big reason as to why she joins different groups is to inspire and share with the Filipino youth that Science plays a vital role in improving lif e because of possible new ideas that might help sustain the production of knowledge and quality of living within the community.

Ever since she was a child, Mia enjoyed participating in Science-related competitions; and receiving awards related to Science opens her mind and further motivates her to be a part of the medical field in the future. When 'Atom Pinoy' was established, she was hesitant and full of doubts to join due to the pressure of studies and other life problems but later on, she realized that this platform can be a stepping stone to expand her horizon to inspire the youth That is why she ended up accepting the invitation despite difficult circumstances.

"I know that there's still in me that loves Science." Mia said.

As the interview reaches its endpoint, it can clearly be seen through her eyes that she is truly in love with Science. It is also a good thing that she is part of 'Atom Pinoy' as she holds the same vision with the organization that promotes science communication, and uplifts the awareness of the Filipino people by introducing Science to the world.

“Even your small steps can also be your big steps.” This was the most striking line imparted by Bryan Dave Perez, a youth advocate, a leader, and someone who pushes for good health and wellbeing. He was the guest on the 20th episode of “Bilib Kami Sa’yo” segment in Voice of the Youth Live where he shared his experiences and stories online that captured everyone’s heart and inspired young individuals. Bryan was the Regional Scout Representative of Central Luzon last 2017-2018 and amazingly so, he also became the 3rd Deputy Speaker at Mariveles Youth Congress in the same year.

During the pre-pandemic times, Bryan engaged himself in various youth activities which fostered his leadership skills and honed his ideas on youth development and empowerment. With the accolades he received, he has accomplished creating - vast resolutions, and immersed himself in making programs that address societal problems such as drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. He also integrated children with knowledge that focuses on having a myriad of information about personal hygiene as the COVID-19 proliferates.

Now that the world is in the midst of a global threat, Bryan still continues on empowering the youth and inspiring them to continue on what they have started. He showcased his confidence on his idea by saying “This pandemic opened the awareness of the youth where they now have the means to participate and give voices to certain causes in their surroundings.”

Bryan also believes that despite the dreadfulness of the COVID-19 pandemic, people have become more keen and developed their awareness of the happenings within the country. He then added, “The pandemic will never be a hindrance to reach your dreams in life.” Indeed, the youth has always been deeply affected by the society we are in and there are many doubts as to how one can achieve what they want in their life given the situation we are in right now.

His remarks are astonishing as he shared, “Go out of your comfort zones and take risks—before being accepted and being lucky.” In these trying times, this is the challenge that we are facing right now; and according to Bryan, not even a pandemic should prevent us from reaching our goals in life. Taking risks will bring us to numerous places and help develop ourselves more. It also allows us to be braver and tougher as we pave our way towards our dreams.

As a youth advocate, Bryan strongly believes that it is always service above self. All that we are experiencing right now, it should never hinder us from inspiring and empowering people. Just like what he said, “It is okay not to be okay but it is not okay if you lose hope and give up.”

To live is to serve: Walk through the journey of a Boy Scout and Church Volunteer

For some men, scouting may give them a different sense of pride. But for Vince Dylan Visey, he prefers to be seen as a “kuya” or an older brother to his fellow scouts who will be viewing him as a role model. This was what he shared during an interview on “Bilib kami sa’yo!” segment of Voice of the Youth Network Live, last February 6, 2021 with Papalem, Delikate Voice, Vibryant Voice and The Golden Voice.

Vince’s initiative and dedication are highly exhibited through his academic and extracurricular activities, as well as community service. He was a former Division Federated SSG President at his previous school, San Pablo City Integrated Science High School, and an active member of their church organization.

In 2019, Vince was awarded as one of the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts of the Philippines. It is currently the largest and most prestigious scouting event organized by the BSP and is attended by thousands of participants every year. The awardees are selected based on their educational and community service achievements, as well as their capacity for leadership.

It’s no secret that plastic pollution is destroying the oceans; harming the many creatures who call it home and the beauty that lies beneath it. That is how Vince’s advocacy of "Say No to Plastic", and "Conquer the Ten Outstanding Boy Scouts (TOBS)" came to be.

According to him, he was hesitant to join at first because at that time, he was only a Grade 12 student who was busy preparing for college entrance examinations. Nevertheless, he decided to take on the risk as he feared that he could lose the chance.

On the presentation of his advocacy, Vince actually did not prepare anything in advance as he wasn’t expecting it. In spite of the unexpected situation, being the brave man that he is, [name] moved forward and finished a powerpoint presentation within the nick of time.

“Kasi yung mga kalaban ko n'un meron talaga silang powerpoint. Nadiscourge ako dun kasi ako lang talaga yung wala. And 'yung aking [inaudible] siya lang talaga 'yung nagsabi sakin na sige kaya mo yan gawin natin. And yun nagbigay siya ng points and then mga slides and ayun nagawa naman namin siya.”, Vince said.

Moreover, despite the ongoing pandemic, Vince is still an active member of their church organization wherein they continue to share the word of God, in a rather resourceful way.

“Napakahirap kase online lahat ng kailangang gawin. Nagkaroon pa rin kami ng opportunity. God is making a way for us na makapag reach out sa kabataan at ibang tao by using Zoom or online youth fellowship. Meron kaming online youth fellowship na ginagawa every Sunday, 1 pm… We prepare games, lessons and of course yung word of God.”, he added.

Indeed, when you volunteer, you feel blessed in assisting others. Knowing that you are making a difference in their life can improve your self-worth and self-esteem, as it can make you feel that you have purpose in life. Being able to make them feel better can also make you feel proud and fulfilled according to God’s will.

Vince reminds, “Always look on the brighter side… Always see yourself as beautiful kasi kung hindi mo titignan ang sarili mo as maganda ka or gwapo ka or hindi mabu-build yung confidence mo talaga para sa ibang tao…Huwag mong gawin para saibang tao, and of course gawin mo kung kanino dine-dedicate ito at of course for me, I believe that is for God.”

To be a Great Leader in the midst of a Pandemic is such a huge challenge for every leader in our country because it takes flexibility, wisdom, power and strength to be able to lead despite the situations that we have right now.

Last June 26, 2021 Voice of the Youth Network introduced to us a leader who took up the challenge to be at his best in leading the youth of their Barangay in the midst of pandemic.

On their segment “Bilib Kami Sayo” they introduce to us the SK Chairperson of Barangay

SK Chairperson Jhuncel Deriquito is not just a typical type of SK Chairman because he also does a lot of things aside from being an SK Chairperson.

He was also a Teacher by Profession he was an Instructor in Dalubhasaan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo and also an Event Coordinator/Host, A former Radio DJ in his College time on a local Radio Station and now taking up his Masteral Degree in Laguna State Polytechnic University with the Master of Arts and Education Major in Guidance and Counselling.

Doing all those works at the same time was not an easy job especially that he needed to focus also on the welfare of the Youth of their Barangay, but despite his busy schedules he still managed to lead the Youth at his best by looking after their needs especially in this season of pandemic.

When he was asked by Papa Lem (One of the VOTY Hosts) on how he managed his time well in spite of the many things that he is doing he says that “It is Important to know your most Priority” and also it includes the right discipline and to really know your goal.

Part of the things that he accomplished during this pandemic is to provide USB, Laptop tables and headsets for high school students and free school supplies for elementary students since the new mode of learning is through online.

They also lend help to their co-Barangays by giving away hygiene kits for every house

(735 Houses were given).

SK Chairperson Jhuncel Deriquito’s main advocacy is to promote Mental Health Awareness to the whole country since he was a psych graduate he believes that mental health is as important as our physical health and it should not be taken for granted.

We had a lot of youth nowadays who suffers depressions and anxiety and the suicidal rate are getting higher each day especially that we are all staying at home, they need help and Sk Jhuncel believes that they need serious attention and he wants to do something about it by raising awareness that Mental Health is a serious issue that needs to be acknowledged.

This young leader here was really doing a great job in leading the youth by setting an example to his fellow leaders that they can be at their best in leading and serving the youth even in the midst of pandemic.

SK Chairman Jhuncel Derequito is really true to his words when he says that “Minsan hindi na kailangang may magtulak sa atin to be a leader, minsan nasa puso nadin talaga ang pagiging isang Leader” being a leader and a servant at its best needs heart for this is where everything flows through. Our youth needs a leader who will not just have a knowledge to lead but also a Heart to lead.

Celebrating VOTY’S 25th AnniVOICEsary!

Last 12th of August, the "Voice of the Youth Network celebrated their 25th AnniVOICEsary" of inspiring the Filipino youth and providing them with stepping stones to further reach their dreams, especially in the voice acting industry.

The event featured a number of guests that are particularly close- to the heart of The VoiceMaster, Mr. Pocholo De Leon Gonzales. The guests each shared about how voice acting contributed to their journey in the industry, and talked about some of their experiences such as how they conquered the struggles that they faced back when they were still studying and learning the skills they needed for voice acting.

Before the awarding of the top 10 Outstanding Volunteers of the Year of 2021, the judges for the final round each gave a simple message. It started with Mr. Reynard “Kuya Rey” Francisco ,who also happens to be celebrating his 31st birthday on the same day. He was then followed by one of the Youth Leaders and Student Leaders of the Philippines, Mr. Mark Jacinto and Sydney Joseph Torrenueva. Next to say his message is one of the TAYO Awardees of 2017 and the Founder of Food Rescue Philippines, Mr. Mac Florendo.

The Chairman of the National Youth Commission Mr. Ryan R. Enriquez, was last to give his speech and message to all youth.

The Voice of the Youth Network recognizes the top finalist from 103 applicants, which went down to 52 candidates and lastly, the final top 10. Each of the awardees will be receiving an award and a certificate of appreciation for their simple advocacies in life. The finalists also shared some information about their programs which mostly consisted of helping people in the community.

The program ended with Mr. Bryan Dave Perez thanking the people behind the program; from the host, attendees, judges, and especially the awardees. He also gave a closing message saying, “Do not be afraid to show the world who you are as a person, as long as you do not hurt them on your way to fulfilling your dreams. Dream big, discover your talent and you will succeed in life; and at the end of the day, your passion will lead you to your proper destination."
