The people in Egypt are under governmental siege. Mubarak regime is banning Facebook, Twitter, and all other popular internet sites Now, the internet are completely blocked in Egypt. Tomorrow the government will block the 3 mobile phone network will be completely blocked.

And there is news that even the phone landlines will be cut tomorrow, to prevent any news agency from following what will happen.

Suez city is already under siege now. The government cut the water supply and electricity, people, including, children and elderly are suffering there now. The patients in hospitals cannot get urgent medical care. The injured protesters are lying in the streets and the riot police are preventing people from helping them. The families of the killed protesters cannot get the bodies of their sons to bury them. This picture is the same in north Saini (El-Sheikh zoyad city) and in western Egypt (Al-salom). The riot police is cracking down on protesters in Ismailia, Alexandria, Fayoum, Shbin Elkoum, and Cairo, the capital, in many neighborhoods across the city.

The government is preparing to crackdown on the protesters in all Egyptian cities. They are using tear gas bombs, rubber and plastic pullets, chemicals like dilutes mustard gas against protesters. Several protesters today have been killed when the armored vehicles of the riot police hit them. Officials in plain clothes carrying blades and knives used to intimidate protesters. Thugs deployed by the Egyptian Ministry of Interior are roaming the streets of Cairo, setting fire on car-wheels as means of black propaganda to demonize protesters and justify police beatings and state torture

All this has been taken place over the past three days during the peaceful demonstrations in Cairo and other cities. Now, with the suspicious silence of the local media and the lack of coverage from the international media, Mubarak and his gang are blocking all the channels that can tell the world about what is happening.

People who call for their freedom need your support and help. Will you give them a hand?

The activists are flooding the net (youtube and other sites) with thousands of pictures and videos showing the riot police firing on armless people. The police started to use ammunition against protesters. 15-year old girl has been injured and another 25 year old man has been shot in the mouth. While nothing of these has appeared in the media, there is more to happen tomorrow. Will you keep silent? Will you keep your mouth shut while seeing all these cruelty and inhumane actions?

ElBaraidi Urges US to cut support to Mubarak

Egyptian opposition leader, El Baradei has urged the US to cut the support to Mubarak. He stated that the "life support to the dictator" must end.

"It is better for President Obama not to appear that he is the last one to say to President Mubarak, 'It's time for you to go,'" he told CNN.

ElBaradei, a Nobel Peace laureate for his work with the UN nuclear agency denounced the US's support to Mubarak for reform throughout Egypt in Mubarak and the United States response to the protests.

ElBaradei urged Obama to stand up for people and freedom instead of supporting a dictator-supported regime.

Elbaradei is a possible candidate for the Presidential Election in Egypt this year.

From Al Jazeera:

"The American government cannot ask the Egyptian people to believe that a dictator who has been in power for 30 years would be the one to implement democracy. This is a farce," he told the CBS program "Face the Nation."

"This first thing which will calm the situation is for Mubarak to leave, and leave with some dignity. Otherwise I fear that things will get bloody. And you (the United States) have to stop the life support to the dictator and root for the people."

ElBaradei returned to Egypt on Thursday night in the midst of large-scale protests that have left Mubarak clinging to power with the army in the streets. ElBaradei addressed the protesters in Cairo on Sunday.

The US has made no comment or even a simple suggestion with regard to the return of El Baradei to Egypt.

Al Jazeera reports:

In his US interviews, ElBaradei rejected concerns about extremism within the Muslim Brotherhood, which is popular among the underprivileged, partly because it offers social and economic services in deprived neighbourhoods.

"They are no way extremists. They are no way using violence," he told ABC's "This Week" programme.

"This is what the regime ... sold to the West and to the US: 'It's either us, repression or al Qaeda-type Islamists.'"

Following Jeddah's floods, the young generation of Saudis used social media websites to help in relief operations by providing aid, shelter, food or transportation to those who got affected by the rain.

Facebook in Need!

On Facebook, more than five pages were created to spread the word and to recruit those who are interested in helping, below are some of these pages.

The page Jeddah's Rain News and The Governmental Silence [Ar] published maps of the city, highlighting the danger zones.

The National Campaign to Help Save The City of Jeddah is keeping everybody updated by posting videos and photos from the city.

Besides, a database was created to gather information of all those missing and in need of help. The database is visible to anyone who can provide help. The website also has a Facebook fan page, to gather as many volunteers as possible.

Twitter For Help

Moreover, Jeddah tweeps used their tweets to rescue those in need, or to spread the word under the hashtags #Jeddahrain and #Jeddahhelp.

We've now seen the cable and then President Barack Obama's statement verifying the Wikileaks cable with regard to "transitioning Egypt from their current regime to a parliamentary democracy."

It is quite apparent that the summit was organized with the cooperation of the US Government Authority. The following is a list of who helped to organize this effort:

Facebook, Google, YouTube, MTV, Columbia Law School, Access 360 Media, Howcast, and the US State Department.

Some of the speakers were Woopie Goldberg, Dustin Moskovitz (co-founder of Facebook), Oscar Moralis, The Obama Campaigns News Media Team, Mathew Waxman (associate prof. of law at Columbia), and James K. Glassman (under secretary for public diplomacy and public affairs US State Department). More information on this can be found here.

President Obama Verifies Wikileaks Cable

President Obama has called on other World Leaders with regard to the unrest happening in Egypt. He plans to support the Transition (from the cable found here from the current regime to "an orderly transition to a government that is responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people,"

On Saturday, January 29th, the President spoke to Prime Minister (Recep Tayyip) Erdogan of Turkey, Prime Minister (Benjamin) Netanyahu of Israel, and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia. Today, he spoke to Prime Minister (David) Cameron of the United Kingdom.

During his calls, the President reiterated his focus on opposing violence and calling for restraint; supporting universal rights, including the right to peaceful assembly, association, and speech; and supporting an orderly transition to a government that is responsive to the aspirations of the Egyptian people.

The President asked each of the leaders that he spoke to for their assessment of the situation, and agreed to stay in close contact going forward.

Below is the cable showing where the US has assisted various groups that have planned for three years to over throw Egyptian President Mubarak. Please note the following:

April 6, 2008: Egyptian activist met with the Cairo embassy official and expressed his satisfaction with his participation in the alliance of youth movement summit in December in the US.

This activist stated that the Government of Egypt will never undertake significant reform and therefore Egypt needs to replace the current regime with a parliamentary democracy.

Activist alleged that several opposition parties and movements have accepted an unwritten plan for democratic transition by 2011

Goal: Replacing the current regime with parliamentary democracy prior to the 2011 Presidential Elections.

Summit: Held in New York

Activist: Met with US government officials on Capital Hill and with think tank representatives. He told embassy officials and those present that the other activists at the summit were very supportive and that some even offered to hold public demonstrations in support of Egyptian Democracy in their countries.

Groups: WAFD, NASSERITE, KARAMA and TAGAMMU Parties, Muslim Brotherhood, KIFAYA, Revolutionary Socialist Movements have all agreed to support an unwritten plan for a transition to parliamentary democracy scheduled before the 2011 Presidential elections.

NOTE: The 2011 Presidential Elections Will Be Held in September of 2011

The opposition is interested in receiving support from the Egyptian Army and the Police.

Belgium, India, Philippines also issue travel warnings, offer practical help to tourists to flee country plagued by anti-gov't protests.

The US Embassy in Cairo has told Americans in Egypt to consider leaving the country as soon as possible. The Sunday morning travel warning said the Embassy will update Americans about departure assistance as soon as possible.

It said US citizens should avoid travel to Egypt because of unrest, violence, and ongoing demonstrations against Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's government.

The US State Department said it had authorized the voluntary departure of dependents of diplomats and non-essential workers in Egypt, Reuters reported.

A number of countries, including Turkey, Belgium, Iraq, India, China and the Philippines, followed the US and also issued warnings and offered to help citizens and tourists leave Egypt.

Turkey was evacuating about 750 citizens and the Chinese government warned against travel to Egypt. Private tour groups and corporations began trying to evacuate their clients and expatriate employees. But dozens of flights were canceled and delayed and crowds filled Cairo International Airport, desperate and unable to leave.

The Iraqi government said it will evacuate its citizens living in Egypt. Sunday's offer was a role reversal since many of the Iraqis living in Egypt fled their homeland because of rampant violence, with near-daily attacks still continuing.

Transportation Ministry spokesman Aqeel Hadi Kawthar told The Associated Press that "we will send whatever planes needed to those who want to leave Egypt." He said the number of flights will depend on demand.

Belgium's Jetair tour operator said it will evacuate its remaining tourists from Egypt starting Monday. The company said in an announcement on its website that two flights bound for Sharm e-Sheikh and Hurghada had departed empty on Sunday in order to bring back those wishing to leave.

Officials in the Philippines said that they had set aside an emergency evacuation fund and identified possible escape routes for thousands of Filipinos in Egypt and advised its citizens to defer nonessential travel.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said that a number of senior envoys will fly to Egypt to help ensure the safety of more than 6,500 Filipinos there, mostly maids and students.

The Indian Government arranged a special Air India flight, at the request of the Indian community in Egypt which will carry 300 Indians, mainly women and children, from Cairo to India on Sunday.

The Indian Embassy in Cairo was supervising the arrangements.

ALJazeera Kicked Out of Egypt

The Egyptian information ministry has told AlJazeera that they must shut down their operations earlier today. After telling them to shut down their operations, their signal was then cut in some parts of the middle east. AlJazeera reports that it can reach 220 million households across 100 countries. Nilesat, Egypt's satellite had cut off AlJazeera's broadcasting signal. This created a successful loss of transmission from AlJazeera in some portions of the Arab World, but other areas were still available for the broadcast.

According to Radio Netherlands Worldwide,

“Dear viewers, Al Jazeera’s signal has been cut off on Nilesat,” it broadcast via a signal visible in Kuwait, and gave satellite frequencies on which the channel was still available.

Correspondents from AlJazeera were still reporting the news via telephone.

“The Information Minister ordered … suspension of operations of Al Jazeera, cancelling of its licences and withdrawing accreditation to all its staff as of today,” a statement on Egypt’s official Mena news agency said.

Some Lessons from Egypt

Lesson 1: That people do not need guns to overthrow a government. They just need courage, and a breaking point.

Lesson 2: The people drastically outnumber any government.

Lesson 3: We do not need nor want an “internet kill switch” as is being pushed by Lieberman and others. Supposedly, there will be safeguards in place that will prevent such a tool to be used for political reasons. That was also said about the Patriot Act though, and recent documents obtained via the FOIA have proven that in fact, the Patriot Act has been used for political reasons.

The Patriot Act possibly violates half a dozen Constitutional amendments, and removes judicial oversight. Lieberman also wants to remove kill switch usage from judicial oversight. Our government was founded with the intent that the three branches of government check each other, and remain separate. Removing the possibility of judicial oversight seems a drastic mistake and a mockery of the Constitution.

Lesson 4: In the absence of legislated laws or an instrument to enforce those laws, the ordinary citizens can and will protect their property, their family and their communities from unsavory elements. In other words, we don’t need our politicians nearly as much as they need us, or as they would want us to need them.

Intent and Perception in Egypt

We have been covering the happenings in Egypt since January 24, 2011. As time has gone by, I've enjoyed the chance to talk to many people inside Egypt before the internet was shut down as well as after the Internet was shut down. The reports that I am getting from these brave individuals are the same.

It appears that the Western Media is interpreting things that they hear from individuals in Egypt in a way that they understand - but not how Egypt understands. This is common throughout the Western hemisphere; this idea that the rest of the world thinks exactly as they do not allowing for other perspectives and cultural identifiers. It simply isn't that way in Egypt and there is a completely different mindset over there. These are the things that we must understand in order to report the news to the Western world in the perspective of Egyptians and not Americans or Europeans.

The first thing that needs to be understood is that Egypt does not want democracy, at least not the Western definition of it. Egypt wants freedom without the influence of foreign countries. Tonight in Mubarak's speech, he talked about bringing Egypt to modern day including

The American cable news coverage of the Egyptian protests, so far, has been – to diplomatically put it – subpar. Conservatives on FoxNews (and on other networks) have taken a 2-prong approach:

1.) Bash Muslims and Arab, like they typically do, by claiming that the impoverished – and mostly secular – young men and women of Egypt were under that spell of the dreaded Muslim Brotherhood (the Egyptian version of the TeaParty – those who seek the religious supremacy over an oppressed minority through the powers of the government under the guise of “economic reform”). Conservatives have even gone as far to say that pro-democracy, secular opposition leader Mohamed ElBaradei would “allow Al Qeada to take over” if he ascended to the Presidency. (The main reason Conservative pundits loath Mr. El Baradei – as the former U.N. Nuclear Chief, he embarrassed the Bush Administration by revealing that Iraq had no WMDs during the lead up to the second Gulf War.) Basically, they used rhetoric to show support for Mubarak.
