As the story goes, Abraham and his wife Sarah could not have children, so they entered into an agreement with their servant, Hagar, to bear children for

Abraham. The children would then belong to Abraham and Sarah. When Hagar gave birth to Ishmael, the couple claimed ownership of the child. Over the course of time, women in other civilizations turned to surrogacy in an effort to salvage their marriages, which would ultimately end up in divorce due to childlessness.

But it wasn’t until the 1970’s that legal agreements were entered into regarding surrogacy. The hallmark case was the Baby M case, where an agreement was entered into between a couple and a surrogate mother. The surrogate was to be compensated for giving birth to the child, and the would- be father was to donate sperms for the baby. However, when the child was born, the surrogate was not willing to give her up, and this led to a messy legal battle that lasted for years. Eventually, the court ruled that the agreement between the couple and the surrogate mother was illegal and hence the surrogate retained parental rights over the child.

In more recent times, gestational surrogacy has become widely practiced. This is a bit different than traditional surrogacy in that conception here occurs outside the womb of the surrogate mother. Moreover, it is not uncommon for another’s egg to be used in place of that of the surrogate mother. Once fertilization has occurred, the embryo is implanted in the surrogate’s uterus where they grow until they are born.

Statistics show that surrogacy is gaining more and more popularity. The stigma and negativity that was once associated with the practice has diminished considerably. In fact, between 2004 and 2008, over 5000 children were born in the United States. With improvements in technology, surrogacy rates are expected to soar.

There is no denying that surrogacy will continue to be a highly controversial and emotive topic. Nevertheless, it is still a practice that offers thousands of people across the world a chance at parenthood. Without doubt, this is a practice that will continue to be embraced more and more with time.

Surrogacy is considered for a variety of reasons. Maybe a woman has found it easy to get pregnant but has suffered repeated miscarriages or has experienced a series of IVF failures or a gay couple longing to have their own baby. It is the most common surrogate arrangement in which the egg is fertilized by the mother or egg donor with the seed of the intended father or sperm donor. Step 1: Choose an agency

Also, provide comprehensive information or advice on surrogacy issues related to legal, insurance or financial matters. Remember that the services offered are not cheap. You can search surrogates yourself. You can save money by doing so, but some things you need to consider, including background checks, create contracts and all the other things that are necessary for the process.

Step 2: Choose your advisor

If there are disagreements and problems between you and your surrogate mother, you need a legal counselor to help you avoid complications on your way. At least one psychological counselor can help you maintain your emotional health and limitations during the process.

Step 3: Choose your medical care

During the process, a replacement must undergo various medical and psychological screening process to ensure that all things are going well. As an intentional parent, it is your responsibility to seek a competent medical professional. Choose the doctor who has many years of experience in this area and, if necessary, should take over the health insurance.

On December 19th, 2015 I was excited to participate in the 2015 Light Battle Tour.  This was a record setting event across San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and Seattle where 9,951 geeks got together with their light sabers to fight for the fate of the galaxy… or all least hang out with fellow geeks for a few hours while having and witnessing some pretty wicked light saber duels and battles.

The spectrum of attendees crossed ages, genders, races, and even interest levels.  There was a basketball game going on the same night at the Seattle Center, so there were quiet a few confused and impressed on-lookers.  There were amazing cosplays.  Super fancy custom built light sabers.  Some guy in pajamas.  It was everything you’d expect and more.  Just recalling the memories from the events filled with that same crackling electricity I felt when I was there.

Fiber Arts and Crocheting have been passions of mine for decades.  While attending Girl’s Inc, we had a foster Grandmother who would come in and spend time with us.  Many times while she talked, her hands would be busy working on her latest crochet project.  We asked her so many questions she started giving us lessons.

Our first project was an oven mitt and I think I made a billion of them.  I remember having oven mitts stuffed in to my boxes of legs and hair accessories.  That was after I gave every adult a knew an oven mitt.  My love in crochet has not stopped.  I enjoy making fun little things for family and friends and I find the process very cathartic.  Yarn is horded in a way I’m mildly ashamed of.  There’s a WeLoveFine TF2 con bag in my closet filled with finished and half-finished projects.  I’ve even crossed over in to knitting and needlepoint.

Clearly crochet is something that I geek out about, so I’m going to share those geek outs with you.  At least once a month I’ll post patterns for some fun projects I’ve written up.  The patterns will be available for free as a PDF download.  You’ll also be able to find the patterns through my Ravelry page.

January 2016’s pattern is the Bearded Hat.  A co-worker link a child size pattern to my Facebook page and ask if I could make one for her husband.  I gave it a whirl and this is what I came up with.  I went with Berroco Vintage which is a machine washable yarn that’s geared towards everyday wear by adults and children.  The gauge was a little finer than I would have liked.  I could have doubled stranded the yarn and gone up to an I needle, but I only had one skein of each color so that would have been a bit of a pain.

Elise Randolph [CSM 7, PL FC] and Solider Smurf [BL.] join me this week for one of the biggest episodes we’ve had in a while.  A lot has been going on in the Eve Online community when it comes to game development, mechanics and events.  Updates have been made to some of the items covered and links to forum discussions will be provided below.

The conversation is an expansive as the Eve Online universe.  The show starts off with a little in-game politics and catching up with in-game activity and then we drive right in to the thick of it.  First up on the block is the newly announced $10,000 Tournament.  Then we switch gears to game mechanics include missile adjustments, the new destroyer line and frigate and cruiser balance.  Topping things off we discuses Retribution, the newly announced expansion coming this Winter and all the great surprises it has in store.  We event discuss events of the in and out of game variety.

I’m late and I’m sorry.  This whole bi-weekly thing is not going well for me.  Never fear, there is no pod fading or anything like that.  It’s just summer and this damnable social life of mine along with the Steam Summer Sale have eaten up a good portion of my free time.  Yikes!
