Apple Explains the Removal of Google Voice from App Store

Not long after Apple removed the official Google Voice application and any other applications that use Google Voice functionality from its iPhone App Store, the Federal Communications Commission has asked both Apple and AT&T to clarify the reasons of the removal.

The companies just answered FCC and published their statements.

A bit surprisingly, Apple stated that the company has not rejected the Google Voice application, and continues to study it.

T-Mobile Deutschland Reverses VoIP Ban, Levies Surcharge

T-Mobile has confirmed that it is to end its ban on mobile VoIP applications within its German network - but will charge customers upwards of EURO € 9.95 per month for the service.

Skype is now available for the iPhone - and will be coming to BlackBerry in May.
The VoIP app on the iPhone will only work over Wi-Fi and not 3G. It will allow iPhone subscribers to use phone numbers in their existing iPhone address book - without the need for duplicate lists.
As always, it allows free calls between Skype users and charges for calls to landlines or mobiles.
UPDATE: Since being released on Tuesday it has emerged that Skype on iPhone does works over 3G, despite being intended only for use with WiFi.

Mobile Operator Extends Skype Calls To Landlines and Abroad

From today, customers of mobile operator 3 in the UK and Ireland will be able to use their mobile phones to call landlines and mobiles abroad at low rates using Skype.
The move applies to anyone using a Skype-enabled 3 mobile phone - including the 3 Skypephone range, Nokia N95 and Sony Ericsson C902.

Security Boost to TiVi Phone Mobile VoIP Software

Newer versions of the TiVi Phone are to have a Phil Zimmermann's ZRTP software library built following a commercial licence agreement between Tilts Visiem and Zfone.
TiVi said this meant users will enjoy better privacy when using the mobile version of the software.

Wireless VoIP May Improve with New Wireless Standard

The IEEE standards body has officially published the Wi-Fi protocol 802.11r.
It has been in the works since 2004 and was finally approved by the body earlier this year.
The new protocol is designed to allow for quick roaming between access points while maintaining security.

Vyke Launches Consumer Expat Marketing Campaign

Vyke Communications, the mobile Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service provider, has announced the launch of its consumer marketing programme targeting the Asian expat communities.
According to a recent national survey conducted by Vyke, expats spend more money on their mobile phones than they do on their food bills.
