Broadcom Offers Open Source HD Voice

Broadcom announced that it is offering its BroadVoice family of voice codecs royalty-free and without any licensing fees.

“As a direct response to customer demand for advanced, high-quality voice solutions and development tools”, Broadcom is releasing its wideband and narrowband BroadVoice codecs in both floating-point and fixed-point C code as open source software under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL), version 2.1, as published by the Free Software Foundation.

The company claims Sipera SLiC is the industry’s first security solution enabling enterprises to “tame” the smartphone, permitting employees to use VoIP, UC, cloud telephony, and other low-cost and feature-rich communications applications on mobile devices with complete security and privacy.

The free version has the same features and functionality as the commercial edition, just limited to ten concurrent calls.

Running on Asterisk, MOR easily handles even 300-500 simultaneous calls on a single server, the company claims.

After “evaluating customers’ expectations and use of the iPhone compared to dozens of others AT&T offers,” the operator has finally taken the steps necessary so that Apple can enable VoIP applications on iPhone to run on AT&T’s wireless network.

Previously, VoIP applications on iPhone were enabled only for Wi-Fi connectivity. At the same time, AT&T has offered a variety of other wireless devices that enable VoIP applications on 3G, 2G and Wi-Fi networks.

Vocalocity has launched a user dashboard that works through a Web browser rather than through separate PC software.
The development gives users of its hosted IP PBX service click-to-call functionality and on-screen call summaries - functions previously only available to web-based VoIP solutions.

Fluke Networks has released a new version of its NetAlly VoIP Assessment and Troubleshooting Software designed to help eliminate risk associated with deploying or expanding VoIP services.
Version 7.0 of the package works by assessing the current state of the network and previewing the service before it is deployed on that network.

Verizon's Hub To Get App Store - And Multi-touch Controls

Verizon is creating an application store for its Hub home phone service as part of plans to broaden its market.
The move follows the trend among mobile makers such as Apple, RIM and Palm to open up to third-party apps. A further development to widen the appeal of the Hub will see Verizon removing the condition that Hub buyers have to be Verizon Wireless customers.
