Well, after years of all sorts, including a 59 and 63 Beetle, Bay window panel camper and of course the 63 Transit van........

Bucket lists, being what they are sometimes stay just that.

But, in spite of a few setbacks recently, including redundancy, unemployment etc, I have been able to keep busy.

Every now and then I try to get some history on my bug. The dvla sent me a photocopy of the original logbook a long time ago but it was illegible and I could only make out the odd word. I knew the first registered keeper was in Gaerwen and third from Dwyran. I recently came across this old advert and wondered was it the garage my bug came from. I checked the photocopy I have this evening and it would appear that this garage was the first registered keeper of my bug!!!!

Hi all! I'm looking to repaint my Beetle in a very basic garage environment with minimal space and no extraction. It's currently got an old, micro-blistered 2K basecoat + clearcoat metallic paint job, but it can be standard, non-metallic next time. I've got a compressor and am fairly handy with aerosols but zero experience of paint-gin spraying, although I'm key to learn.

I'd like to avoid using normal 2K paint due to the risk of isocyanates. I've done a fair bit of research on this...

1973 vw beetle, ragtop project.
Running and driving, pand and channels look ok, small repair to battery tray. The body needs some welding. I jabe taken over 40 photos and have a couple videos to show this best poss.(I can send these over) Viewing recommended on request.
The paint is cracked and in a bad way, the fuel pump was faulty so I have replaced that to get it running.
The front valance has been caved in as it rolled off the drive and into a wall, as a result the car is a category N...

My Father-in-law had this bus from around 83 until around 95. It was Blue, maybe Dove or around that shade or as he calls it "the right blue". Last seen around London way in Black. It was used to take his large family everywhere including France, Scotland & the Isle of Wight from their home in Birmingham.

Picked this up back in July after being out of the scene for about 15 odd years, it was totally stripped and sandblasted then left for around 6 years in a shed so was covered in light surface rust, luckily the seller threw in the sandblaster with the sale so that will help get her back. Spent a few months removing rust and treating the panels with kurust to make sure it's dead before treating with zinc primer, the best thing about buying it this way was being able to see where the problems...

Gah, I can't get this car to behave for longer than about a month.

Had it fully cleaned and tuned and it was running beautifully. The other day it took ages to start, then when it did I drove about 4 miles and it started limping until it died. Had to pull over. Checked the points gap (fine). Waited. Fired her up again and got about a mile before it started dying. Called RAC. When they came we fired it up again and I drove it 3 miles home. Felt a little off.

Hi Everyone. I have a 1974 1.2 Beetle and I have removed my transmission as it was leaking slightly from the inner Axles and the clutch was just beginning to slip a little. I have decided to give it a complete overhaul and check / replace most gaskets and seals etc, as I am also going to do with the engine.

My question on the transmission is, I have noticed that you can now get 'Steel' inner Axel shims, but that you still need to buy the traditional paper shims/gaskets to go either side...

I have recently moved and lost the V5 to my beetle project, as the car has been sorn for 12 years and has no plates attached I can't remember the registration number!!

The DVLA are been very unhelpful even though I told them it's a white 1970 1300L beetle( J plate), gave them the chassis number and has been registered to me at 2 previous addresses.

Any ideas??

From my searches on Google this part used in pre 67 beetles isn't available as an aftermarket replacement, has anyone substituted it with anything else? or does it need to be pre-formed metal tubing? the previous owners of my car seemed to have cobbled together later parts and a plastic sleeved cable and I was hoping to either put it back to original or do something a bit 'custom' that will be better than just a plastic cable.
