<p>Yup, Voluminous 1.0.5 is out. We were going to release this on Monday — but we thought people might be <a href='http://developer.apple.com/wwdc/' >a bit distracted</a> at the time, and since the beta testers haven't reported any problems, we're going to let you all get your hands on it today.</p>
<p>We think it's a particularly good update:</p>
<ul><li>You can now add Sticky Notes to the books in your library. The first sentence of the note is used as its title, and you can jump straight to it from the book's Sticky Note popup-menu — so you can use them as extra bookmarks as well as for annotating your books. </li><li>Also new is <a href='1-0-5-chapter-and-verse.html' >Chapter Skip</a>, mentioned previously. If you haven't read that news post already, please do, as it has some information about what's going on behind the scenes, and why you might sometimes see things other than chapter headings in the list. </li><li>You can resize the sidebar, which is most useful when dealing with old-fashioned books in a series: "Book With A Very Long Title Well We Call It A Title It's More Of An Introductory Paragraph Really But These Things Just Used To Be The Way It Was Done — Part One." </li><li>Improved the readability of headings in the Autumn/AutumnBare styles. </li><li>And of course more book fixes, including <em>Φθινόπωρο</em> by Konstantinos Chatzopoulos, and <em>Paródia ao primeiro canto dos Lusíadas de Camões por quatro estudantes de Évora em 1589</em>.</li></ul>

<p>Just a quick note for those of you who've rushed ahead to Mac OS X 10.6 ("Snow Leopard"): Version 1.0.6 of Voluminous is not compatible, but we've brought out a new version, 1.0.7, which does work under Snow Leopard.</p>
<p>If you've not yet upgraded to Snow Leopard, but intend to, we recommend updating Voluminous first. If you're already using Snow Leopard and find that Voluminous doesn't start, you won't be able to use the built-in auto-updater. Simply download the new "free trial" version from our website — you should find that when you install and run it, it's automatically registered with the same details as before.</p>

<p>Here's the update mentioned last week. Since <a href='fixamatron-0001.html' >the Fixamatron</a> has been quiet of late, it's mostly focused on adding features and polishing the user-interface a little. Two notable improvements are designed to make on-screen reading easier for tired eyes:</p>
<ul><li>You can now zoom the text size up or down</li><li>In full-screen mode, you can now change a book's margins, just by dragging them to a new width</li></ul>

<p>The next release of Voluminous isn't ready yet, but here's a look at a feature I've been working on, on-and-off, for a while now — Chapter Skip.</p>
<p>In theory, this should be pretty straightforward: Grab a list of chapter titles while converting the book from plain-text format, stick them in a list, along with whereabouts in the book they were found, and jump to the matching place when the user picks one.</p>

<p>We've released another small update to Voluminous this afternoon. It's mostly just to address some issues with specific books that were reported to us via <a href='fixamatron-0001.html' >the Fixamatron</a>, including <em>Pride and Prejudice</em> by Jane Austen, and <em>Frankenstein</em> by Mary Shelley.</p>
<p>A quick note on something we <em>couldn't</em> fix: A couple of books — <em>Le Grand Meaulnes</em> and <em>Ainsi Parlait Zarathoustra</em> — were reported to us for having faulty accents.</p>

<p>Hey all! We've been kinda quiet the past few days, I know. Well, we haven't received any <a href='fixamatron-0001.html' >Fixamatron</a> reports in a while, so that's given us time to work on larger projects — new features and longer-term goals.</p>
<p>We're planning to release another minor update in a couple of weeks, which would bring a small collection of enhancements, and then a bigger announcement in perhaps mid-June or early July. We don't really like to talk about new features before they're ready — because we hate to disappoint people if it turns out not to be possible for some reason — but I think it's safe to say that adding more control over the size of text is at the top of our list.</p>

<ul><li>A small bug when showing/hiding the Topic Browser has been fixed.</li><li>The Topic Browser is also now resizable, so you can choose to fit more topics into your window, or more books, as you wish.</li><li>We've also implemented our first batch of Fixamatron updates.</li></ul>

<p>A quick tip about searching for books in Voluminous: the search box contains a small magnifying-glass icon, and if you click it, a menu pops up listing the types of search you can do. With this, you can choose to search only the titles of books, or their authors' names.</p>
<p>Let's say you're looking for the works of Edgar Allen Poe. If you just type "poe" into the search box, you'll find about 500 books of poems and poetry, as well as those by Poe. But if you change the search to "Authors", you'll find just what you wanted.</p>

<p>We released a new version of Voluminous today, version 1.0.6. It's just a small update, mostly <a href='fixamatron-0001.html' >Fixamatron</a> stuff, but we also fixed a couple of small bugs and added a new feature: My Bookshelf.</p>
<p>When you click My Bookshelf, it filters the book catalogue down to just the books you have in your collection — the same list normally shown in the sidebar, but whereas the sidebar is arranged to bring the books you're currently reading to the top, My Bookshelf works the same way the catalogue normally does, so you can look up specific titles or just browse your personal collection by author, subject, etc.</p>
