Assistant for Youth Healthy Cooking Classes

11/2/2015 - 3/31/2016 - Through the "Healthy Cooking in the Classrooms" program we provide healthy cooking lessons to 4th and 5th grade students in the West Fargo School District. This program consists of 4 healthy cooking lessons. The lessons go over MyPlate, appropriate food portions, and hands on food preparation skills. During each of these sessions we will be teaching between 20-28 kids and each volunteer will lead a group of 6-8 kids. At the start of the lessons our lead healthy cooking instructor talks to the whole group about the MyPlate food groups that are involved in the recipe that they will making that day. Then, our lead instructor introduces the recipe for the day and demonstrates each skill that the kids will be learning when creating their recipe. Once she is done instructing, the volunteers will lead their table in making their healthy recipe.

This program is in the West Fargo School District health curriculum for 4th and 5th graders and we will be having a volunteer training prior to the start of any lessons in order to keep the lessons standardized. Since there is a training component we ask that our volunteers commit to 8 dates. As for the volunteer training, we don't have a date set yet but we can meet individually with you if for some reason that date and time doesn't work in your schedule.

Most volunteer shift are in the mornings Monday - Thursday. Shifts range from 1 hour to 4 hours. Please contact us for specific dates and times.

We need volunteers to help with the silent auction portion of the event. Helping with silent auction tables at the event, possibly registration and other tasks throughout the night.

In furtherance of our mission, we are committed to maintaining: exceptional and diverse performances, high quality educational programs, outreach to inspire and enrich the community and a sound financial condition that enables growth and provides a stable viable future.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Attendance at board meetings;
Review outcomes and measure NPD’s performance and effectiveness;
Approve NPD’s annual budget, financial reports, and material business decisions;
Partner with the Director and other board members to ensure that board objectives are carried out;
Serve on committees or task forces and take on special assignments as needed;
Assist during NPD’s three annual public performances;
Participate in board driven fundraising activities;
Open doors for organization staff to make presentations with prospective donors about NPD’s mission and giving opportunities;
Assist staff in thanking donors;
Identify and recruit other Board Members;
Contribute to an annual performance evaluation of the Director;
Act as an ambassador for NPD.

Board terms/participation
NPD Board Members will serve a three-year term to be eligible for re-appointment. Board meetings will be held 6 times per year.

SuperHero 5K & SideKick Youth Run

We are looking for energtic people to help with many areas of our annual SuperHero 5K & SideKick Youth Run.

Volunteer jobs:
Picnic - replenishing drinks, fruit, hot dogs.
Registration - helping with people registering for the race, getting t-shirts, collecting money raised, etc.
Parking - helping direct traffic to prevent congestion.
5K Attendent - helping the Race Management team with the starting line and finish line.
Youth Run - helping hand out medals to the finishers of the youth run.

Times for each vary but most are between the hours of 5-8:30p.m.

Youth Court Volunteer (ages 11-17)

- Lutheran Social Services Youth Court is seeking youth volunteers to serve as courtroom personnel for Youth Court hearings. Volunteer responsibilities include:

* Listening to all facts of each case to determine how to help
* Question defendants to better understand their situation
* Decided outcomes for each case that target who the youth has harmed, how the harm can be repaired, and how to help them learn from their mistakes.
* Attend trainings twice a year

Youth Court is held every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 - 6:00 PM year round.

Please check in at the Fargo Public Library's Main Building, downtown Fargo, in the Dawson Conference room by 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 9. Volunteers will be briefed and given a symptom to act out. Volunteers will then be led across the street to the facility where the exercise will take place. 6/8/2015 - We are looking for one idividual to cover every day or 5 individuals to cover one day each. The mail run will take place Monday through Friday in the afternoon. Each shift will be approximately 3 hours. There will be minimal sorting of interdepartmental mail that stays at the facility. All other mail is sorted at a different location. There is no heavy lifting involved but the volunteer(s) need to be steady on their feet for the three hour duration. The ability to push a large cart is also a requirement.
