Hey yall!
Truth be told--- i totally forgot about this blog.lol But my journey has never stopped. I have had short relaxed hair, Ive had loose natural hair ( short /and long), and now i'm on a loc journey! I've always adored locs, but was afraid I would get bored/ or feel that i missed out on experiencing certain hairstyles. But now that i've " been there, done that" lol I am super excited for this journey!

I am so Happy with my decision. I have been sticking to my regimen and keeping my hair well moisturized and protected and it is working out well.

Regimen Overview:

Shampoo every two weeks
deep condition ever wash (hello hydration or organic root stimulator mayonnaise-rotate every other wash)
moisturize at least twice daily(olive oil and water or raw Shea butter mix)
seal with oil at least twice daily (Castor oil)
wear protective styles 2 months at a time and let hair rest 2-3 week in between, (kinky twist, rope twists, wigs, etc.)

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS WHEN I WAS RELAXED!

1. What do you put on your hair/ or do to your hair to make it grow?

a. In my opinion no product can MAKE your hair grow. Your hair naturally grows from your scalp. I believe. You must properly care for your hair to retain the length and health of your hair that grows from your scalp regularly.

2. What products did you use when you first started your hair journey?

a. Many of my products remain the same. I stuck with Crème of Nature detangling shampoo (blue bottle) until it was discontinued and the Crème of Nature conditioner (purple bottle) which has also been discontinued. I swore by s curl as my moisturizer, and I used kemi oil as my oil.

3. How fast does your hair grow?

a. My hair grow approx. ½ inches a month

4. Did you clip your own ends?

a. I had my ends clipped professionally.

5. How often did you go to the salon?

a. I would go to the salon for relaxers/ trims or when I wanted my hair professionally styled only.

6. Did you relax your own hair?

a. With an exception of the last months I was relaxed I did not relax my own hair. I would have it done professionally for sanity reasons. My relaxer before my set back (see my I have an announcement to make video) I tex laxed and like the results but It was time consuming.

7. What relaxer did you use when you were relaxed?

a. I used Motions with Oil moisturizer

8. Were you bone straight relaxed or tex laxed?

a. I was bone straight relaxed most of my relaxed hair journey. My last few relaxers were tex laxed.’

9. How often did you relax?

a. At the beginning of my journey I relaxed faithfully every 6 week s( I know sad..). Once I realized that I could stretch my relaxers I begin to relax every 8-10 weeks, my hair thanked me for it!:-)

10. How often did you wrap your hair, do you recommend it?

a. I did not wrap my hair unless I had a fresh relaxer for 2 weeks a time. If you choose to wrap your hair practice routing the direction nightly.

11. Is it too late for me to join the Grow with me challenge?

a. Its never too late? Create a regimen and get started!

12. Would you say that sew ins help with your hair growth?

a. Sews in were my go to protective style. They were cute and they allowed me to retain length. I did however experience a set back when removing it once due to not properly detangling. So that is definitely something to keep in mind when choosing sew in as your protective style.

13. How often did you flat iron?

a. I did not flat iron often. In fact I did not use much heat at all. I got my hair flat ironed right after my relaxers only. There after I would air dry after each wash and wear protective styles (buns, twist out, sews etc)

14. How often did you deep condition?

a. Once a week or after each wash

15. How often did you wash your hair?

a. I washed at least once a week, because that is when I felt my I wash my hair needed it. Wash as often or less often as your feel is necessary to each its own

16. When you first started your hair journey and your hair was shorter, how did you style your hair/

a. I would wear phony pony tails, or sews ins

17. What steps would you recommend to recover from a set back?

a. Give your hair some TLC. Be faithful and consistent with your regimen. Be sure to faithfully moisturize and oil your hair to prevent drying and more breakage.

18. Did you take any supplements to help your hair grow?

a. No . I take everyday multivitamins. Which I think is always a plus and I drink plenty of water.

19. Do you think you have good hair?

a. If by good hair, you mean hair that grows out of my scalp then yes. Otherwise I don’t think there is a such thing as good hair or bad hair

20. What is your regimen?

a. For my most recent relaxed hair regimen see my “relaxed hair :regimen 2010” video.

21. Why did you go natural?

a. I have had relaxed hair since I can remember. I’ve reached a point in my life where I feel its time for a change And that’s where my natural hair comes in

WEAVE QUESTIONS:

1. How often did you wash your while in weave/sew ins?

a. Every two weeks

2. What products do you use on your weave?

a. I used cheap conditioner/shampoos on my weave

3. What hair did you use most for your sew ins

a. I like to use Sensationnel New Yaki 10/12 inches

4. How long did you keep your sew ins in for

a. 6-8 weeks at a time

5. How long do you wait between sewin before you re apply a another sew in?

a. I would wait at least 3 weeks -4 weeks to re apply a sew in to give my hair time to rest.

6. How do you care for the hair left out when you have sew in?

a. The same way I would care for my hair when it is not in sew in. (moisturize daily, oil daily, wash conditioner etc.)

7. How do you dry your braids under your sew in after you wash.

a. I would blow dry on cool setting until its about 80% dry and then let it air dry

8. How often do you moisturize/oil your hair in a sew in?

a. As needed. Usually once a day.

BEST TIP: Be patient, be consistent and take lots of pics to document your progress!

I'M TRANSITIONING FROM RELAXED TO NATURAL!!

yes yes yes!!! It's official. Ya girl has decided to transition from Relaxed to Natural.

My last Relaxer was on June 23, 2010. The plan is to transition for as long as I can-lol. and then cutoff the relaxed ends..

My regimen right now still remains the same. I will have to adjust it as I progress in my journey and I will be sure to keep you guys posted.

As of right now I am a little over 3 months post relaxer and I am rocking a straight sew in. I've had it in for about a month. I will remove it soon and let my hair rest for about 2 weeks and reapply another protective style ( sew in or kinky twist).

Here's a pic of the Sew in I currently have in:

Hair is Sensationnel New yaki Premium too (blue package-i believe) .

12 inches in the front with 1b

14 inches in back 1b/33

Styled with middle part , no sides left out , no back left out, only front left out to cover tracks

Sew in routine over view:

Moisturize hair under sew in once a week or as needed, follow up with oil, to see how I do this watch(on dry hair only) this my How I wash, Moisturize and Oil my hair in A sew in Video
Wash weave hair every two weeks with Dove moisture therapy shampoo and follow up with conditioner
Wash my regular hair (braids under sew in) with my reg shampoo and conditioner(I dilute shampoo and conditioner so the it can be easily rinsed out)
I oil my scalp with Castor oil one every two weeks or as needed
To dry weave hair I apply a no frizz serum (ganier sleek and shine or Sally Beauty's version of Biosilk leave in serum) and then blow dry 100% and style
To dry my braided hair underneath the sew in I apply a heat protectant spray to braids and blow dry on medium setting until hair is about 80% dry and then I let it air dry
I only wear satin scarfs
I may moisturize my left out hair in front and my edges and nape areas daily sicne they are exposde to air more easily while my hair is sewn in

5. I am about 7 weeks post relaxer and I am going for about 10-12 weeks. I will still texlax but I will smooth this time, I did not smooth last time and how my hair turns out will determine if I will continue to tex lax. ..Dealing with the 3 diff textures has really been a challenge but I love the thickness:-)!

HOW I REMOVE MY SEW IN VIDEO

Hey yall!!

You guys know the Grow with me challenge is under way and its up until August.. I hope many of you have joined me and embarked on your personal hair journeys!

I have successfully removed my sew in after about 5 weeks. I am currently 6 weeks post and I plan to relax at at least 8 weeks. Or if I am bold enough I will try to strecth 10 weeks. I sel relaxed at 8 weeks post relaxer. And the outcome was good! If all goes wellover the next couple weeks I think I may continue to self relax. I am aiming to be more self reliant this year Wish me Luck!!

MY CURRENT HAIR REGIMEN

Here is a quick over view:

MY REGIMEN

Wash once a week
Wash with Crème n Nature shampoo(Blue bottle)
Condition with Crème n Nature conditioner(purple bottle) mixed with At One Botanicle Reconstructor conditioner (let sit for 5 mins then rinse out)
Towel Dry 15 mins.
I deep condition once a week after one of my washes with Motions(DPT-Deep Penetrating Treatment) ,and sit under a hooded dryer with shower cap over my head for 15 mins or just -walk around for 45 if you want to avoid heat

Rinse out deep conditioner thoroughly
Towel Dry for 15 mins
I add leave conditioner (it’s an At one Botanical brand) and detangle my hair in four sections, with a wide tooth comb.
I add my moisturizer -Softsheen Carson finishing mist-green bottle or scurl-blue/white bottle(on wet hair), i rotate between the two. And Softsheen Carson Moisturizing Lotion(on dryhair)
Add Oil (Kemi Oyl)
Add Serum for sleekness and shine(Ganier Sleek and shine)
Air dry in a pony tail with roller on the end
Cover with satin scarf and let air dry over night
Wear pinned up or bunned until next wash
Moisturize and oil twice a day( once in morning and once before bed at night)

*FYI*

I AM A RELAXED HEAD! not sure what texture.

I Relax every 6-8 weeks

Protein treatment] ::I have decided to lay off of protein for awhile. If I feel my hair needs it I will Use the Aphogee two minute reconstructor.

-I always use heat protectant ( I use nexuss brand) if blow drying hair

My New Black Berry 8900

OMG! I have had this phone less than 24 hours and I love it!! It's full of cool features and applications. I have tried numerous phones and I must say this is my first blackberry and I am never roaming too far away from it:-)

Air Drying Technique ( No heat Applied)

Quick OverView:

Wash hair and condition as usual
Towel Dry for 10-15 minutes
Apply leave in (AT ONE BOTANICLE BRAND)
Detangle with Wide tooth Comb
apply Liquid moisturizer (I used the Softsheen carson finishing mist in this vid but I will say its alot lighter but compares nothing to scurl !)
Comb thru with wide tooth comb
Apply Oil (Kemi Oyl) and Comb thru as well
Apply Serum for Sleekness and Shine (I applied Ganier Sleek and Shine)
Go over with Small tooth comb gently to smooth hair from root to tip
Put hair in loose ponytail and put roller on end
Cover hair with Satin Scarf and allow to air dry
Apply moisturizer and oil to hair twice daily to keep moisturized!

Note: I usually air dry over night. I air dry in a pony tail because I do not typically wear my hair down and at my current length to retain length I wear it pinned or bunned 90% of the time. I am almost 3 weeks post I believe in this video.

Here is my most recent update.

I just got a relaxer and I must say I love my progress. It's been almost 6 months since I cut my hair into a bob.. boy how time flies! Although this challenge ends in August (hopefully Ill be full shoulder length my next relaxer), I will be on a lifelong healthy hair journey so I ain't going no where!!:-)

My regimen still remains the same minus the Aphogee 2 minute re constructor.. I am laying off of it for awhile.

Well,

so far so good. I have taken out my sew in my hair is still thriving! I think I see some growth:-) My camera is so busted right now.. so stay tuned for a update vid! I washed out my sew in and followed the method I provided in one of my earlier posts. I had no breakage, damage etc. Im just waiting 4 that fresh relax so I can share my progress with you guys. How to Wash your hair in a sew in

HEY YALL!! I am so hyped right now! I posted the "how to moisturize and oil your hair in a sew in"Check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5WnJJBrZ_o . This technique has always worked for me. Here is a quick overview:

Wash human hair with a two in one shampoo/conditioner if possible.
Seperate into two half to wash weave and avoid tangling the hair, gently work shampoo/conditoner from shaft to end of hair.
Rinse Thoroughly.
To wash regular hair(braids) Dilute a dime size amount of shampoo/conditioner in a cup and pour over braids (repeat for every section).
Rinse hair thoroughly, rub braids to assure hair is rinsed properly.

Once done washing follow the "How to Maintain your hair in a sew in" post below.

FYI: You can rub castor oil on your scalp to promote hair thickness from the root. This is also explained in the video linked above.

Sew-In Maintenance

Hey yall!
I am still adapting to this blogging thing..
But I am so loving this sew in.. it is saving me so much time .
As promised I will have a vid up soon on youtube on how to moisturize your hair underneath a sew in and how to properly care for your hair once you take it out ..etc. In the mean time if ya are rockin a sew n like my self.

Make sure to :
1. Spray/rub scurl or any other moisturizer on your braids!!
2. Then go over briads again with oil ( I use a lil squirt bottle to make it easier)
3. Wash every 2-3 weeks to get rid of build up ( I dilute the shampoo with water in a cup etc)

If you you are taking out a sew in ALWAYS.ALWAYS.. DETANGLE AND COMB OUT ALL SHEADED HAIR BEFORE YOU APPLY WATER OR WASH YOUR HAIR. or else ya hair will be a matted mess! I can't stress that enough.. I know I experience it!

To avoid this:
1. Part into sections and apply a conditioner and detangle
2.Let conditioner sit on hair for about 2 hrs or so
3. Wash hair in shower to avoid hassel / Straight try not to rub or tanlge the hair too much
4. Be sure to deep condition!! Your hair needs lots of TLC after being hidden for so long!
