This week the very much anticipated Outback Wife 150cm wide barkcloth from Cathi Bessell-Browne (Gertrude Made) arrived. This 100% cotton fabric has been printed in Japan on a base cloth that has been back engineered to replicate vintage barkcloth as closely as possible. The stunning hand-painted floral designs have been a labour of love and have taken more than a year to complete.

Inspired by the beautiful floral barkcloth fabrics of the 1940s and 1950s, each detail of this collection has been meticulously and sincerely considered to create a range with an authentic vintage voice.

If you love making bags then our latest mail order club is just for you.

This is a brand new online club where, over the year, you will receive 6 bag kits to create stunning bags to suit your own personal style. Once you join the club 1 Bag Making Kit (Pattern, interfacing and hardware) will be sent out to you every 2 months. Featuring bag patterns from You Sew Girl, Sew Sweetness, Two Pretty Poppets and Emmaline Bags plus high quality stabilisers and hardware, these kits will enable you to try out new techniques and expand your bag making skills.

Each pattern has been chosen to introduce you to different techniques, stabiliser combinations and hardware. The patterns all have clear instructions and illustrations/photos.

The first four kits are set but you have a choice of the following for the last two.

You can also choose if you prefer Silver or Antique Brass Hardware* and Black or White Zippers.

Lots has been happening this week, all of the bag hardware and zippers that I have had on order arrived on Wednesday. I have been busy packaging up and listing new stock on the website. I also have a couple of new mail order clubs ready to go.

Bag Club 2017 - receive a bag kit every 2 months for a year (6 bags total).

Feature Fabric Club - receive two pieces of feature fabric every month.

I've often had requests for gunmetal black bag hardware but it is really hard to source. The good news is that Emmaline Bags now has a small range of gunmetal hardware. I have the 25mm (1") slide adjusters and d-rings in stock now. I'll be getting the hooks, rivets and metal bag labels in my next order. There are also a few new items available in gold as well.

I have had a clean out of the sewing patterns in the shop and have decided to discontinue selling a number of them, mainly kids clothing and embroidery patterns. Welcome to 2017 bunnies :)

I've had a busy week catching up with website listings and organising classes for the year. Most of my suppliers are still shut but they should be opening again next week so I am expecting new fabric to start arriving again over the next few weeks. This week I received a shipment from the US full of new patterns and haby. I also have new zipper from byAnnie due but they seem to be spending some time with the Australian Customs people first :/

The main new pattern that has arrived this week is the Modern Clutch Purse by Pink Sand beach Designs. This is perhaps the fastest purse pattern I have ever sewn and the result looks very professional. You can dress this pattern up or down depending on the occasion and the frames are available in Silver, Antique Gold and Gunmetal Black.

Rivets are now available in a new size, these ones have a 6mm cap and a 6mm long stem. They are suitable for the Necessary Clutch Wallet if you prefer a smaller head on your rivets.

There is now a new section on the website for pre-cut fabrics, this is where I will be adding any charm packs, layer cakes or jelly rolls. A few have been added to the website and there are a few random ones available in store that won't be added to the site.

I am in Melbourne this weekend for the annual Australian Quilt Market so I have just popped in quickly to give you the weekly new in store round up:)

I'm super excited to get the new Echino metallic cotton/linens from Kokka, Japan I've been waiting a while for these ones to come in :)

I now have plastic grommets in 11 different colours available. These plastic grommets simply snap together, no tool required. You can use them on bags and clothing to provide extra stability on openings. They are required for the Monica Poole Designs Wrap Skirt and the You Sew Girl Fan Bag.

This week I would like to introduce a new bag designer to my store, Lisa from Two Pretty Poppets. Lisa is an Australian designer and she has 11 patterns in print format. I have all of them available on the website and in store, I can't wait to get in and make some samples of these super cute looking patterns.

We also had bagmaking supplies from Emmaline Bags and You Sew Girl arrive this week and next week I will have a large shipment of hardware from Hong Kong arriving as well. So 'almost' everything will be back in stock again. I have already sold out of Style B frames from Emmaline but I will be getting more in again hopefully in two weeks.

I have had some requests for gold coloured bag hardware, specifically the strap anchors but if there is anything that you really would like me to stock in gold please let me know and I will see what I can do.

The Craft and Quilt Fair was a great success last weekend, a big thank you for everyone who popped in to see us :) The cork fabric was super popular at the show but I still have a few colours in stock. I have also added 4 bright new colours to the website.

New this week, we have fabric for both the dog and cat lovers out there with three new designs of each from Cosmo Textiles, Japan. All of them are printed on canvas weight cotton except for the two blue cats designs which are on light weight cotton. This week I have added a very funky new retro repro range from Penny Rose Fabrics called Mid Mod. I love the red and teal colouring of this collection.
I wasn't going to get these in Ophelia from the Cotton+Steel Boo! Collection but they are just too awesome to resist and they are designed by one of my favourite fabric designers Sarah Watts.
Last but not least I have finally found a supplier of rivets and rivet setter tools. The 8mm x 6mm size is perfect for the sides of the Necessary Clutch Wallet.

In addition to all the regular shop work I have been super busy making new bag samples for the 2016 Brisbane Craft and Quilt FairThis week I made the Rockstar Bag designed by Sew Sweetness. I have

used True Love Tattoo Black By Andover Fabric as the exterior fabric, Ed Hardy Love Is True Roses Light Grey By Quilting Treasures for the lining and the red accent fabric is my go to Premium Solid Tomato (24) By Northcott. I have added the rockstar edge with rivets (coming to the website next week !!) and metal spikes (new in store this week).

This bag is interfaced with Medium Weight Woven Fusible Interfacing on the lining and In-R-Form foam stabilser on the exterior. At times you will be sewing through 1/2" of foam stabiliser on this bag so you will need a sewing machine that can handle these kind of thicknesses. I found that my little Brother Innovis-950 couldn't handle the bulk (broke 5 needles learning this :/) but my Janome Memory Craft 4900 handled it fine. When sewing bags with a lot of stabilisers in them I find that a some form of double sided adhesive tape is brilliant for holding straps and zippers in place before sewing. It is also invaluable when inserting the piping and the bias tape on the lining seam, in fact I think that I used most a roll on this bag ;)

Overall this bag can be a little challenging purely due to the bulk of the foam stabiliser but the level of difficulty will come down to your sewing machine.

I think you will all agree that the finished product is pretty awesome and worth a little effort :)

One of my favourite fabric artists, Janet Wecker Frisch has released a collection of beautifully illustrated storybook panels for Quilting Treasures Fabric. The panels can be sewn up into a soft book (see video below) or used a panels in a quilt or runner.

From the Timeless Treasures Wicked collection there are some pretty spooky Halloween designs featuring crows, stormy clouds, skulls and trees.

Also from Quilting Treasures Fabric is the new Santoro Mirabelle range, I have the panel and the two main co-ordinating fabrics in stock. For all of the Zombie fans there are two new The Walking Dead fabric which go wonderfully with the Robert Kaufman blood splatter prints which is available in both black and white again.

The Day of the Dead Kitty fabric was incredibly popular, I now have the puppy version available. I am curious to see which is more popular, cats or dogs.
