Happy Winter Holidays.

New WAZDash: Today an updated version of WAZDash is available (submitted 12/17/2011). This version includes all RSS feeds on the Dashboard which is now at 62. Currently, the open Windows Azure Forum issue against the Service Bus, Access Control & Caching Portal [Worldwide] feed is not allowing WAZDash to report issues from that particular rss feed. I assume this feed will be repaired by Microsoft soon and then any issues it has will appear in WAZDash.

Interesting end-of-year statistics: Downloads for WAZUp (Azure Deployment Mgmt) far outpace WAZDash (Azure Dashboard Service) even though WAZUp costs more and requires more upfront configuration.

XBox Version: I’m thinking of building XBox versions of these apps. If you would interested in using them, please let me know.

Enjoy Azure,

Both apps have been submitted for certification in Mango versions.

WAZDASH (two blueberries) version 1.2.2.0 with minor UI and bug fixes.

WAZUp (one strawberry) version 1.11.3.1 with inclusion of Reboot Instance and Reimage Instance. My experience is that while the Windows Azure API returns immediate status, the portal takes at least a full minute if not two or three to show the change. Each action (stop/start/delete/swap/reboot/reimage) now returns immediate status (success, failure, in progress) in a popup dialog. This status on the phone is meant to alleviate any concern you have about the difference between what the phone app shows and the portal displays. The portal is usually much slower to show status changes than the phone.

What’s Next I have a lot of work to do on the web service side in order to add live tiles and background processes. I’ll dig further into Azure as preparation for changes in the apps.

Phone Camp – I’m headed to Phone Camp at the end of the November on the Microsoft campus. The event is conveniently located next to the building my husband works in.

WAZDash is now certified for Mango. In my experience, it will take a day to get through the Internet maze to eventually be available to the consumer. Price is still $0.99. [Updated] Version number on about page is 1.1.3.0. If you are seeing version 1.0.27.0, that is NOT the Mango version.

For this version, I also added a feature: click-through on service or location groups gives details. So on the home pivot of services or locations:

Tap the service name (“Windows Azure Storage”) to see the 5 issues found:

I also made a few significant UX changes so the overall performance both in response time and memory used should be smaller. Hopefully you just notice a nicer experience.

WAZUp sidenote

The purpose of wrestling Azure service issues was to present the relevant issues to WAZUp users based on their deployment locations. So look forward to that feature coming soon.
