Pastor, I just wanted you to know that I really liked your sermon last Sunday, "Help for the brokenhearted." I'm sure you noticed me crying through the whole thing and even now thinking about the message God had that day makes me bawl. It's just that it was exactly what I needed to hear.

That's exactly what happened to Kristi Hirsch. She and her husband, Pastor Phil Hirsch, were blessed with three children during their first years of marriage. God then gave them a set of identical twin girls, followed by a set of fraternal twin boys less than two years later.

About ten years ago, Marvin Saunders fainted at work. Not sure why, he went to the doctor. The doctor diagnosed him with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Marvin and his wife, Joan, had a hard time remembering the name of the disease, but not the result. Marvin's heart was dying. The doctor told Marvin that at 55 years old he had only three months to live.

I have felt the whole summer tick quickly by, minute by minute. Our son leaves for college in two weeks, and I fear my heart will stop.

Today I read again the schedule for welcome week, tried feebly to commit to my memory the parent parts of the week . . . and suddenly, once again, the tears come. They surprise me. I canâ€™t stop them.

Postpartum depression (PPD) wasnâ€™t supposed to happen to me, but it did.

Prior to having PPD, I sincerely believed that most psychological problems, especially those related to depression, were due to a lack of faith in God. I also felt it was a sinful state for which healing came only through repentance. I thought I was above any type of depression.

We had been dating long enough to know that this was serious. As a sign of our deepening affection, Lisa invited me to her apartment for a romantic evening. Knowing I loved the movie Lady and the Tramp, Lisa prepared a candlelit spaghetti dinner.

There was only one problem. Like the movie, the dinner table had just one plate of spaghetti and two forks.
