Easton Nightclub Owner Charged With Obstructing Police Investigation

Police in Easton have charged the owner of a troubled city nightclub with obstructing justice following a stabbing that resulted in an attempted murder charge. Police said Kirtikuma Patel, 46, was arrested late Saturday at his nightclub, Club Beyond. They said he obstructed their investigation into the stabbing of a man in a nightclub bathroom on October 31st. Police also arrested a nightclub bouncer on charges stemming from a separate incident on October 18th. (file photo)

Veterans Day was officially observed Wednesday, but people in Bethlehem celebrated America's military veterans with a ceremony Saturday morning at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider of the Revolution. Congressman Charlie Dent was among the dignitaries on hand at First and Market Streets. A wreath was laid at the tomb, preceded by a 21-gun salute by Revolutionary War re-enactors.

Sussman says he believes the current health care proposal in front of the Senate will likely change significantly before there's a final bill to discuss. He said he prefers a gradual approach to addressing the current problems in health care instead of one massive change.

Fire officials say a fire at a law office in Allentown has been ruled arson. Officials say the fire went to three alarms yesterday morning before being brought under control. The fire marshal says it broke out around 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday in the basement of the Eidelman Crossley law office in the 1200-block of Hamilton Street.

Felix Alvarez Found Guilty in Deadly Shooting

A jury in Lehigh County has found a man guilty of killing a woman outside an after hours club in Allentown. Felix Alvarez was charged in the shooting death of Ingrid Garcia back in 2006. She was shot when a fight broke out outside the now-defunct South Side Lounge on East Susquehanna Street. Police don't believe she was the intended target. The victim's husband was also charged in the case. Santiago Correa pleaded guilty to 3rd degree murder earlier this month. Felix Alvarez is scheduled to be sentenced December 15th.

Drivers in the Lehigh Valley got an unexpected surprise Saturday as they headed down Hamilton Boulevard near Dorney Park. Traffic was backed up all around that area, and onto Interstate 78. It was all due to an overwhelming response to a drive-thru seasonal flu shot clinic being held at Dorney Park. And even though the traffic was a pain, nearly 10,000 people were vaccinated, in just one day. Last year, about 12,000 people were vaccinated in two days.

Disturbance Leads To Man Being Stabbed, Woman Shot

Suspect Arrested, Charged With Stabbing

Police have charged a man with attempted homicide after a stabbing at a nightclub in Easton over the weekend. Police say Daniel Clark of Bethlehem stabbed a man in the neck in the bathroom at Club Beyond on Lehns Court early Saturday morning. Clark is also facing charges of aggravated assault. Investigators are continuing to look into whether employees at the club were lying to police when they made their reports.

Worker Killed Cutting Trees In Allentown

A worker on a tree-cutting crew is the victim of a fatal accident in Allentown. Police say a 26-year-old worker died when part of a tree fell on him Wednesday afternoon. Police have not released the man's name. They say the crew was working for Penns Woods Company in the 600 block of East Westminster Street.

Garage Damaged By Fire In Northampton Co.; Person Burned

Firefighters battled a garage fire in Williams Township, Northampton County. It broke out after noon in the 200 block of Browns Drive. Initial reports were that flames extended to the woods and that one person suffered burns. Officials say the victim was taken to the hospital, but they don't know the extent of injuries.

Phillies, Yankees Meet For Game 6 Battle In The Bronx

It was another do or die game for the Phillies Wednesday night. Down three games to two, the defending world champions were defeated by the Yankees in Game 7. Thousands of Phillies fans gathered in New York to cheer on their team, and there was at least one place some of them could go and make friends. It's a little taste of home for Phillies fans in the middle of the West Village in Lower Manhattan, complete with the cheesesteaks and Yuengling.

Allentown Mayor, Lehigh Co. Executive Win Second Terms

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski and Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham both won their respective elections to a second term in office. Pawlowski, a 42-year-old Democrat, defeated his Republican opponent, Tony Phillips, by about a three-to-one margin.

Hospital Offers Free Flu Shots To School Staff

Teachers and school staff in Easton rolled up their sleeves today. Easton Hospital hosted a seasonal flu shot clinic for staff of the Easton Area School District this morning. About 350 people were vaccinated.

Former Police Officer Found Guilty Of DUI

A former police officer in Freemansburg, Northampton County who was accused of driving drunk has been found guilty. The district attorney says Kevin Kovalovsky was in court for his trial today. Investigators say Kovalovsky was found driving drunk in Bushkill Township in December, 2007. Officials say he was off duty at the time.

Officials with the Lehigh Valley Research Consortium and Muhlenberg College teamed up to do the study for the Latino Education Coalition. The study reports 22% of Lehigh Valley students are Latino, compared to 7% statewide.

Man Accused Of Shooting Church Leader Found Guilty

A Lehigh County man accused of killing the leader of a church in Maryland has been found guilty, but mentally ill, on all charges. Monir George faced first degree murder charges for shooting Malak Mikhail at a church fundraiser in Christiana, Delaware in May, 2008. Mikhail was the deacon of the St. Mary's Coptic Church in Maryland.

Ring Busted For Running Drugs From N.Y. To University Campus

Man Charged With Attempted Murder After Monroe Co. Shooting

Four people were sent to the hospital early Sunday morning with gunshot wounds - and a man was charged with attempted murder - after a party in Monroe County turned violent. According to police: Dheklan John, 22, from Tobyhanna, faces attempted murder and other related charges after the party at a home in the 2000 block of Cedar Drive in Long Pond. Joshua Rodriguez, 20, also from Tobyhanna, was taken to Pocono Medical Center and later flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital after suffering a gunshot wound.

Saturday was Halloween of course, a time for candy, ghost stories and parades. Kids and grownups donned costumes of all kinds Saturday. This was the scene in Nazareth Saturday afternoon. The parade got underway just after lunchtime, at 1:00 and kids filled their stomachs with a little roadside candy. Nazareth's trick or treat was also Saturday evening. It was scheduled to start at 6:00 and runs until 8:00.

Man Killed In Northampton County Crash

A New Jersey man is dead after a two-car crash Saturday morning in Northampton County. It happened a little after 9:00 on Route 512 in Upper Mount Bethel Township. State Police say Daniel Kulig, 18, of Bangor was headed north on 512 when police say he took his eyes off the road, crossed lanes and hit a car that was waiting to turn. Police say George Townsend, 64, of Butler, New Jersey was in that car and was killed in the accident. Kulig was also hurt in the crash.

Man Stabbed Inside Easton Nightclub

Police in Easton say two men are facing attempted murder charges after a man was stabbed in the neck at a nightclub. Investigators say the stabbing happened at about 1:00 Saturday morning in a bathroom at Club Beyond, on Lehns Court. Police say the victim, whose name had not been released, is expected to survive. Now several nightclub employees and a patron are also being investigated for allegedly lying to police and obstruction of justice. Standoff Ends In Allentown

A standoff at an apartment building in Allentown is over. Police were called to the apartment building located at 1351 Roth Avenue shortly after 1:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Police say a man claimed to have a handgun and that he was going to hurt himself. Negotiators were able to talk the man out of the apartment just after 3:00 p.m. The man was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Allentown for psychological evaluation. No one was hurt in the standoff.

War of the Worlds Rebroadcasts Locally

Saucon Valley Students Head Back to Class

Memorial Service Scheduled For K-9

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 5 for Allentown Police Department K-9 Axel who succumbed to cancer on October 22. Axel was eight years old. Axel served the department with his handler, K-9 Sergeant John Hill, for over six years.

Fundraiser At Sonic For Teen Killed In Crash

A teenager killed in a crash last month.. was remembered Thursdayafternoon by her former co- workers. The Sonic Restaurant in Lower Nazareth Township held a fundraiser for the Angelica Fox Memorial Fund. Servers are donating all their tip money to the fund. Fox had worked at the Sonic since 2008.
