A Delaware County sheriff's deputy was not criminally charged after his 10-year-old daughter with special needs died of vehicular hyperthermia after being left in his truck on a summer day.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Special prosecutors have declined to file criminal charges against a Delaware County sheriff’s deputy whose 10-year-old daughter with special needs died after he left her inside his truck on a summer day.

I-Team is not naming the deputy because he was not criminally charged and he was off duty at the time of the incident, which happened on Aug. 14, 2025.

The girl died of vehicular hyperthermia, or heatstroke.

On Aug. 14, the outside temperature was 85 degrees, and the temperature inside the vehicle would have reached 132 degrees after several hours, records show.

According to a report to the court, the deputy called 911 at 6:44 p.m. to report he had accidentally left his daughter in his truck.

“She has rigor already. I messed up,” the deputy told the 911 operator.

The girl had been diagnosed with a syndrome that limited her ability to speak, walk, and move.

The deputy picked the 10-year-old girl up from school at 2:30 p.m., and once inside the house, his two-year-old daughter was “throwing a fit.”

The deputy then became preoccupied with quieting the toddler, according to the report to the court.

He said he then lay down with the toddler to nap and then woke up around 6 p.m.

The deputy went out to his truck to get a bow so that he could practice-shoot, and that’s when he found his 10-year-old daughter unresponsive inside the truck, records show.

When Delaware County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on the scene, the deputy said “I messed up” and put his hands behind his back, according to the report to the court.

The special prosecutors, Chris Gaal and James Luttrull, declined to prosecute the deputy and outlined the following determinations:

The deputy was not on duty at the time of the incident.

There is no evidence he left his daughter in the vehicle on purpose.

The deputy did not make any excuse for his lapse of memory.

Numerous events may have contributed to the deputy’s mental state, including a recent death in the family.

“The credible and admissible evidence is not sufficient to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that a criminal offense has occurred,” read the report.

The deputy was placed on paid administrative leave on or about Aug. 14, 2025, and returned to work on or about Jan. 15.

I-Team contacted the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office to see if the deputy had any comment or statement on the special prosecutor’s findings, but a spokesperson said he did not have a public statement.

On average, 38 children die in hot cars every year in the United States.

Seventeen children have died in hot cars in Indiana since 1990, records show.

Marah Crapo, 20 months, died in Hendricks County in August 2019 after her parents took a nap after church. The Crapos were never criminally charged.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Scattered storms remain possible over the coming days. Some could be strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. Less humid air returns for a few days starting Friday.

TUESDAY EVENING/NIGHT:

The warm and humid air mass in place will support a continuing chance of showers & storms. Not everyone will get one… but if a storm forms it does have the potential to produce torrential rainfall, gusty winds, and perhaps some hail. Muggy lows in the lower 70s can be expected again.

WEDNESDAY:

Some morning showers, storms, and clouds are possible but the afternoon is looking like it’ll be downright sultry with highs around 90 and heat indices near 100. Southwesterly breezes 10-20 will ease the burden a bit, but be sure to take extra steps to stay cool and hydrated. The 30 year average date of the first 90 in Indianapolis is June 19th.

Model data suggest a storm complex or two may graze northern Indiana in the later part of the afternoon and evening. It’s too early to tell if this will affect Central Indiana or not.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT:

Warm and very humid conditions stick around. Look for another night with lows in the 70s. Once again, some data suggest that a batch of gusty storms could roll across Northern Indiana. That will be something to watch.

THURSDAY:

Warm, breezy, and very humid conditions hang around one more day. Highs near 90 with heat indices around 100 appear likely. While a shower or storm could pop anytime in the muggy air, most of the daylight hours should remain dry.

A cold front will push in from the west during the evening and overnight hours. This front will likely spark a line of strong to severe storms in Illinois. These storms will move towards Central Indiana, but they may be in a weakening phase prior to arrival here. We’ll just have to watching things evolve. The main severe threat in this setup would be damaging wind gusts it appears.

FRIDAY:

After an early day rain & storm chance, the majority of the day should be pretty nice with partly cloudy skies, warm highs in the 80s, but lower humidity levels. Any outdoor plans for Friday evening look great!

WEEKEND:

The pick day will be Saturday with plentiful sunshine, warmer temperatures, light winds, and reasonably dry air for a change. Humidity increases again for Sunday and that will lead to another chance of scattered rain & storms.

Aaron Dale Gorham, 31, of Martinsville, Indiana, was sentenced to 86 years in prison for systemic and repeated child molesting in Brown County, and is facing further criminal charges in Morgan County.

NASHVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A Brown County judge sentenced a 31-year-old man from Martinsville to 86 years in prison for what was described as “systemic and repeated child molesting,” and he is set to face more criminal charges in Morgan County, the Brown County prosecutor said in a Tuesday news release.

The Brown County sentencing for Aaron Dale Gorham, 31, happened June 2 in Brown Circuit Court.

Gorham pleaded guilty to six counts of child molesting, two counts of child exploitation, one count of activity related to obscene performance, and one count of possession of child sex abuse material.

Detective Patrick Williams of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department brought the case to the attention of Brown County prosecutors in late September 2025 after Morgan County discovered and charged Gorham with possession of child sex abuse material, often known as child pornography.

In the release, Brown County Prosecutor Ted Adams said, “Detective Williams had viewed the material and believed that some of the material depicted a child in acute danger, meaning that there appeared to be child sex abuse material that was homemade and newly-created; he took immediate action. Through his investigation and search warrants, he was able to link some of the videos with Gorham’s home in Brown County along with identifying Victim 1.”

Gorham was on probation in Bartholomew County for a prior felony theft conviction when he committed his Brown County crimes, the release said. He faces a probation violation for the Brown County conviction, and a possible additional two years added to his sentence.

Additionally, the release said, Gorham has pending charges in Morgan County. Following Brown County’s filing, Morgan County reopened and re-investigated another child molesting allegation involving Gorham and a different alleged victim from 2017 to 2021. On March 13, the Morgan County Prosecutor’s Office filed six additional felonies, including four counts of child molesting, against Gorham related to that victim.

Online court records show a pretrial hearing set for July 6 in Gorham’s Morgan County case.

Gorham was in custody in Morgan County when he was sentenced in Brown County.

NEW YORK (AP) — More sudden reversals for high-flying artificial-intelligence stocks sent Wall Street reeling. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% Tuesday after careening between an early gain of 1% and a midday loss of 2.3%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average edged up 0.2%, and the Nasdaq composite sank 1%. Indexes swung lower after companies selling computer chips, memory and other building blocks of the AI boom broke from early gains to losses. The drops for AI stocks drowned out the benefit of lower oil prices, and most stocks in the S&P 500 rose. Treasury yields edged lower in the bond market.

THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below.

NEW YORK (AP) — More sudden reversals for high-flying artificial-intelligence stocks sent Wall Street reeling on Tuesday.

The S&P 500 fell 0.3% after careening between an early gain of 1% and a midday loss of 2.3%, pulling further from its all-time high set a week ago. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 106 points, or 0.2%, with a little less than an hour remaining in trading, and the Nasdaq composite was 1% lower.

Indexes swung lower after companies selling computer chips, memory and other building blocks of the AI boom broke from early gains to losses. Micron Technology went from a jump of 4.2% to a drop of 4.3%, for example. That’s a day after it soared 9.9% and two days after it plunged 13.3%.

The computer memory company’s stock has already tripled so far this year, raising criticism that it’s gone too far, too fast. Following last week’s industrywide sell-off, the question is whether AI stocks broadly are heading for a long downturn or just needed a shake-out to get rid of excessive optimism.

Marvell Technology dropped 4.4%, and Advanced Micro Devices sank 9% after both AI winners also erased early-morning gains.

All the while, several big-name AI companies are racing to list their stocks on a U.S. exchange and sell them at high prices. OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, said Monday it was the latest to file confidential paperwork with U.S. regulators for an initial public offering. SpaceX’s IPO could happen later this week.

The weakness for AI stocks drowned out the benefit Wall Street got from easing oil prices. More stocks in the S&P 500 rose than fell, despite the sharp swings for the overall index, as the price for a barrel of Brent crude oil sank 3% to $91.45.

Oil prices have swung as hopes rise and fade that the United States and Iran can reach a deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. A reopening would allow oil tankers to resume delivering crude from the Persian Gulf to customers worldwide.

Oil prices pared their losses, though, after President Donald Trump said Iran was responsible for downing an American military helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz and that the United States “must” respond to the attack.

High oil prices caused by the war with Iran have already created a painful acceleration of inflation for U.S. shoppers. They have also pushed bond yields higher worldwide, raising the pressure on stock prices.

Treasury yields eased a bit Tuesday with the fade in oil prices. The yield on the 10-year Treasury fell to 4.53% from 4.56% late Monday, though it’s still well above its 3.97% level from just before the war with Iran.

The latest monthly updates on U.S. inflation will arrive later in the week, with one on consumer prices coming Wednesday and one on wholesale prices coming Thursday.

Inflation is high enough, and the U.S. job market looks strong enough, that traders on Wall Street largely expect the Federal Reserve will have to raise its main interest rate at least once by the end of this year. Higher interest rates would keep a lid on inflation, but they would also threaten to slow the economy and undercut prices for stocks and all kinds of other investments.

The average long-term U.S. mortgage rate has already recently climbed to its highest level in nine months, and high costs to borrow money could discourage the building of AI data centers that are fueling the U.S. economy’s growth.

On Wall Street, airline stocks flew higher after the drop in oil prices indicated less pressure on their fuel bills. American Airlines rose 4.9%, and Delta Air Lines gained 4%.

J.M. Smucker jumped 9.5% after reporting a stronger profit for the latest quarter than analysts expected. The company behind the Folgers, Hostess and other brands benefited from higher prices charged for coffee and sweet baked goods. It joined the long list of U.S. companies delivering stronger profit growth than analysts expected, which has helped drive the S&P 500 to record after record this year.

Nuvalent soared 39.1% after GSK agreed to buy the biotech company for $10.6 billion. The shares of U.K.-based GSK that trade in New York added 0.9%.

In stock markets abroad, indexes dipped in Europe following bigger moves in Asia.

South Korea’s Kospi jumped 8.2% and nearly recovered Monday’s plunge of 8.3%. It’s been beholden to the performance of big tech stocks like SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The U.S. has about 10,000 births per day, and about 32% of those births are via cesarean section, or C-section. If that number feels high for you, you’re not alone. The World Health Organization says the acceptable rate is only 10-15%.

Preparing for before, during, and after birth is a plan a mother needs to make with her care team. However, there’s one decision that may not get as much time.

“There are certain instances where the only safe way to deliver the baby is a C-section,” Rita Ellen Eye, OB-GYN, physician & owner of Premier OB-Gyn.

A C-section is when the baby is delivered through the lower part of the abdomen, with an incision through the skin & uterus to remove the baby safely.

“One fairly common reason that a C-section might need to happen would be if the baby is not in a good position to deliver vaginally,” Dr. Eye said.

The biggest reason for C-sections right now is fetal distress, which is picked up by fetal monitoring.

“Rather than risk the baby not being able to be delivered safely, then very often we’ll suggest, ‘You know what, let’s do a C-section to get the baby out safely,’” Dr. Eye explained.

According to the New York Times, fetal monitoring increases the chance of C-sections by 63%, and that means at least some unnecessary surgeries. However, last year, a family was awarded more than $48 million from a case in which their doctor allegedly avoided a C-section.

However, with natural deliveries, Dr. Eye said:

“There are often many things we can do during labor, like give IV fluids, give some oxygen, change the position for the mom, where you can take the pressure, take that distress away from the baby, and be able to proceed with labor rather than have to say, ‘Oh, this isn’t safe, we have to stop and do a C-section now.'”

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still says the country’s C-section rate of 32% needs to be lowered to 24% or less.

“So, there really has been a push, especially, I would say, in the last five years, to try to avoid unnecessary C-sections,” Dr. Eye said.

At the end of the day, it should be a decision about which way will keep the mother and baby safest and not about which way is most convenient for the doctor or the mother.

Dr. Eye said the pros of a C-section include avoidance of using forceps or a vacuum to aid with delivery, the ability to deliver the baby quickly and safely, and the avoidance of shoulder dystocia, where one or both of the baby’s shoulders get stuck.

The cons are a greater loss of blood, and often, future pregnancies may also need a C-section. One rare complication from C-sections is placenta accreta, where the mother later has another baby and the placenta abnormally fuses because of the scar tissue from the first C-section, which can lead to excessive bleeding and hemorrhaging during the next C-section.

BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) — Brownsburg senior wide receiver Branden Sharpe is one of the most dynamic players in the state, and he’s keeping his talents right here with a commitment to the Indiana Hoosiers.

“Being a hometown kid, like Indiana, that’s all you hear growing up. It meant the world to me. When they first offered me, I was like, ‘Oh man.’ I was stoked. I called my dad and was like let’s go! I was excited,” Sharpe said. “16-0 natty champs, you can’t get better than that, so that really helped me make my decision.”

Sharpe got to hold that national championship trophy during his official visit to Bloomington last week.

“Just being able to put that jersey on to see what it would be like in a year, it felt really cool,” Sharpe said. “Obviously, the pictures turned out nice, and just wearing the Hoosier logo on my jersey and my number on it, it was awesome.”

To see him in that uniform, it just all came full circle,” Sharpe’s dad Dale said. “It’s like, ‘Alright, this is it. We’re ready to go now.'”

Before Sharpe officially joins the Hoosiers next spring, his No. 1 goal is to hang another state championship banner up here at Brownsburg. It would be a three-peat for the Bulldogs. Either way, Sharpe is taking all the lessons he’s learned from head coach John Hart down to Bloomington.

“Always work hard. Don’t ever stay complacent because if you don’t and if you’re not physical, there’s going to be somebody out there’s going to be trying to bust your butt,” Sharpe said. “So, (Coach Hart) just always taught me to work hard and be physical and great things will happen.”

Sharpe’s excited to learn from another championship coach — Curt Cignetti. Sharpe had the chance to meet Cignetti during his visit to Bloomington.

“I thought he was pretty funny. I mean, funnier than I would’ve guessed. He actually does have a personality, contrary to popular belief,” Sharpe said. “He’s a great guy. I think he’ll be able to build me off the field just as much as on the field.”

“He doesn’t shy away from hard coaching and discipline. His work ethic is what sets him a part. I always tell him that,” dad Dale said of his son. “I see how the work that the (Indiana) coaches put in… they expect if not perfection, as close to perfection as possible, and so, I see him fitting very well with that coaching staff.”

“I think under the staff I can become the best player that I possibly can and just being able to see where that can take me,” Sharpe said.

Maybe even a national championship of his own.

President Donald Trump has accused Iran of shooting down a U.S. Army helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran has blamed foreign military forces for the incident and warned them to stay away from its territory.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — President Donald Trump blamed Iran on Tuesday for shooting down a U.S. Army helicopter close to the Strait of Hormuz and said the United States must respond. Iran’s top diplomat said foreign military forces near the country’s territory “are at constant risk.”

In the first known operation of its kind by the American military, a drone boat rescued the two aviators who were aboard the Apache attack helicopter when it went down near the critical shipping lane that Iran has effectively closed during its war with the U.S. and Israel.

Trump said in a social media post that military officials told him “the Iranians shot down one of our highly sophisticated Apache Helicopters.” He added that both service members “are safe and uninjured.”

“Nevertheless, the United States must, of necessity, respond to this attack,” Trump wrote.

Soon after Trump made his accusation, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said in a social media post that the Strait of Hormuz is “thousands of miles away from U.S. shores.”

“Foreign forces in proximity to our territory are at constant risk on account of their own human errors, plain accidents, or potentially being caught in crossfire,” Araghchi wrote. “To reduce risk, best solution is for them to leave.”

The downing of the helicopter further strained a two-month ceasefire a day after Iran and Israel exchanged fire for the first time since the fragile truce took effect. Iranian state television said Tuesday that the Israeli attacks killed at least two members of the country’s air-defense units.

Since the U.S. and Israel began striking Iran on Feb. 28, the war has shaken the global economy, driven up energy prices around the world and made many basics, including food, more expensive.

Officials have been unable to turn the April ceasefire into a deal to permanently end the conflict, particularly as Israel intensifies and expands its military campaign in Lebanon against the Iranian-backed militia Hezbollah.

Army crew members picked up by drone boat

The Army aviators were rescued at 3:30 a.m. local time Tuesday, about two hours after their helicopter went down during a patrol off the coast of Oman, U.S. Central Command said.

The U.S. service members were spotted and picked up by a drone boat that took them to another location on the water, where they were picked up by a helicopter, said Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command. Hawkins initially said the drone took the two to shore, and he did not elaborate on the updated timeline.

It was the first known drone rescue at sea by the U.S. military, Hawkins said.

AH-64 Apache helicopters have been a key asset for the American military as it enforces a blockade on Iranian crude oil shipments and tankers, seeking to pressure Tehran into a deal. The helicopters have also been used by the United Arab Emirates to shoot down Iranian drones.

The drone used to perform the rescue was a 24-foot (7.3-meter) vessel called a Corsair, Hawkins said. It’s manufactured by Saronic Technologies.

The drone was assigned to the Navy’s Task Force 59, established in 2021 as the Navy’s first uncrewed and artificial intelligence unit that focuses on maritime security in the Middle East, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Suez Canal.

Trump insists an Iran deal is coming

Before he accused Iran of downing the U.S. helicopter, Trump had expressed renewed optimism over negotiations with Iran.

“We have a good chance” of signing a deal in “two or three days,” Trump said late Monday. But he didn’t provide any details on why there was reason for new optimism. In the two months since the U.S. and Iran agreed to an initial ceasefire, Trump has repeatedly predicted that a deal is near.

“We’re very close to having a very, very good, strong, powerful deal,” the president said.

Mediators, led predominantly by Pakistan, have been trying for weeks to get a deal across the line. However, both Iran and the U.S. have taken hard-line positions.

The U.S. wants to see Iran give up its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, which is believed to be entombed in the aftermath of American airstrikes that happened during the 12-day war in 2025. But Iran is refusing that and demanding relief from sanctions. It also wants the release of frozen assets even before a final agreement is in place, something rejected by Trump.

Before Trump’s comments on negotiations, Qalibaf said Monday that Trump’s remarks so far on a possible deal “contradicted the agreed-upon sections,” showing that the U.S. is “neither seeking a ceasefire nor dialogue.”

The continued fighting between Israel and Hezbollah is still a top Iranian priority as well. Lebanon’s army chief, Gen. Rodolphe Haykal, traveled to Pakistan on Tuesday. There, he met Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who has been a key figure in the Iran-U.S. talks.

Haykal’s visit comes as Lebanon’s government takes an increasingly hard line on Hezbollah but remains unable to disarm the powerful militia. Hezbollah thanked Iran on Tuesday for attacking Israel “in defense of our Lebanese people,” suggesting that Lebanon’s government should take this opportunity to improve relations with Tehran.

Israel issues a warning for Tyre, Lebanon

Meanwhile, the Israeli military issued an evacuation warning for Lebanon’s southern port city of Tyre, including the Christian quarter, which has so far been spared from airstrikes on the city.

Last week, Israel warned the Christian neighborhoods in Tyre that it believed Hezbollah members were among them. Many Lebanese Shiite Muslims fled to those areas as Israeli strikes hammered the Mediterranean coastal area over the past two weeks.

After last week’s warning, the Lebanese army deployed to the Christian district of Tyre in an effort to prevent Israeli attacks there and to show that Hezbollah has no armed presence in the area. But Avichay Adraee, the Israeli military’s Arabic-language spokesperson, posted on X on Monday that the Israeli military “will have to act against their terrorist activities in the neighborhood soon.”

This version corrects that the rescue of the two aviators, not the helicopter crash, occurred at 3:30 a.m. Superville and Toropin reported from Washington. Associated Press writers Michelle L. Price in New York, Will Weissert in Washington, Bassem Mroue in Beirut, Munir Ahmed in Islamabad and Russ Bynum in Savannah, Georgia, contributed to this report.

ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — Zionsville is the first stop on WISH-TV’s “WISH You Were Here” tour this year, where we pay visits to our neighbors across central Indiana all summer!

Angie McCloskey, co-owner of Zionsville Olive Oil, and Amy Carroll, local artist, joined Daybreak to share details about their coinciding event, “Sip, Stroll, and Shop.”

The event will have a variety of participating businesses, including retail shops, coffee shops, restaurants, and art studios.

McCloskey described the event as a time to take advantage of businesses staying open late.

“Everybody can take advantage of this beautiful summer weather, walk down Main Street, enjoy what we have to offer,” she said. “We just want to let people know that it’s a great place just to stroll our main streets.”

McCloskey also noted the economic benefit for local businesses.

Carroll says she is hosting an event in her studio with Sassy Green Interiors, featuring local musician Max Bigelow. She also noted that the “Sip, Stroll, and Shop” is the “perfect Indiana small town event.”

“People will just come together, have fun creating things and enjoying Main Street and everybody,” Carroll said.

Attendees can participate in a bingo game by picking up a card at Fivethirty Home, located at the corner of Pine and Main streets. McCloskey explained that businesses will place stickers on the cards as participants complete them. Prizes for the bingo game have been donated by local businesses along Main Street.

The “Sip, Stroll, and Shop” will also take advantage of Zionsville’s DORA policy, meaning adults can enjoy alcoholic beverages as they go.

McCloskey clarified that adults will have to purchase a special DORA cup to sip and stroll through the designated areas.

The Main Street Zionsville organization manages the “Sip, Stroll, and Shop” event.

McCloskey praised the organization’s efforts. “We have a great organization led by Erica Carpenter from Fivethirty Home, and it’s Main Street, Zionsville. And that’s one of the best tools that they’ve recently utilized to kind of bring everything together and make these events happen,” McCloskey said.

The Identity Theft Resource Center's Trends in Identity Report reveals that identity crimes have become more complex and multi-layered, with unauthorized device access surpassing scams as the primary threat for adults aged 35-64, and fraudulent employment becoming the most common crime against minors.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A new report reveals a shift in how cybercriminals are stealing your personal information.

The Identity Theft Resource, a national nonprofit, released its Trends in Identity Report Tuesday, which reveals a fundamental change in the identity crime landscape.

The report shows identity crimes have evolved from isolated incidents into “multi-layered” crises, with 26 percent of victims now managing two or more concurrent incidents, up from 24 percent the previous year.

“Identity crimes are no longer isolated, single events,” said Mona Terry, Chief Operating & Programs Officer for the Identity Theft Resource Center. “They are becoming increasingly complex. It is not just about the number of crimes, but also the pattern they follow. A single compromise can trigger a chain reaction that spreads across multiple accounts and institutions, making it much harder for people to recover.”

The ITRC analyzed the experiences of more than 6,000 people.

For the first time, unauthorized device access has surpassed scams as the primary threat for adults aged 35–64.

Other key findings include:

Unauthorized access to computers and mobile devices increased by 78 percent year-over-year from 15 percent of all identity compromises to 27 percent of all compromises. Over the same period, scams involving the sharing of personal information declined from 43.1 percent to 36.1 percent of compromises.

Fraudulent employment is now the most common crime against minors, accounting for 40 percent of misuse cases for children and dependents.

Scams require active participation, but unauthorized access means you did not give permission—for example, you were hacked and someone downloaded malware onto your device.

“We’re seeing those come back because AI makes them so easy,” said James Lee, president at the Identity Theft Resource Center. “They can find vulnerabilities in software, they can find a way to exploit that vulnerability and creating different kinds of malware, and it’s very, very easy for them to do.”

The bad guys don’t need any skills, said Lee.

“If you can write a prompt, you could write malware so this is all a reflection of these trends we’ve been seeing building since the launch of Chat GPT three years ago,” said Lee. “We’re now beginning to see some of our worst fears come true.”

The report found account-problems scams are the highest-volume scam type; 74 percent of victims shared high-value personally identifiable information (PII), the highest rate of any scam category.

“Account scams are so effective because we have bank accounts, we have accounts with the government, our local government, our state government, our federal government,” said Lee.

Only nine percent of those with any financial impact were able to resolve their cases, according to the ITRC report.

“The more money you lose and the more sophisticated the attack, the less likely you’re going to find a resolution to whatever has happened to you,” said Lee.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The second annual Bloomington Bluegrass Fest will take place June 13 at Upland Brewing Co. in Bloomington, featuring nine acts and a mix of traditional and progressive bluegrass music.

The festival will run from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and is organized by Bloomington-based event coordinator Jeff Shew. Tickets are $20, with discounted pricing available for multiple-ticket purchases.

For tickets, visit www.eventbrite.com.

He said the festival is designed to showcase both traditional bluegrass and newer interpretations of the genre.

“I think there are a lot of bluegrass festivals going on every weekend,” He said. “What I like to do with ours is keep it traditional while also embracing a more progressive style. There aren’t so many boundaries with it.”

The lineup begins with The Fun Dunns from 3 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by Bobbie Lancaster and The Wild Mercy from 3:35 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Blue Flame Music will perform from 4:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., followed by Low Landers from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. and Nectar Valley from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.

Banister Bluegrass is scheduled from 7:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., followed by Boozehounds Bluegrass from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Headliner New Old Cavalry will close the festival from 9:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. The Hammer and the Hatchet will serve as featured artists, performing alongside various acts throughout the event.

Shew said keeping the festival affordable is a priority. Tickets are priced at $20 each, with prices dropping to $15 per ticket when purchased in multiples.

Boozehounds Bluegrass, a Midwest string band founded in 2017, is among the featured performers. The group blends original songs with traditional bluegrass and old-time music and has become a regular presence on the regional music scene.

Band member Taylor said the group has expanded since 2022 and now performs approximately 60 shows annually throughout the Midwest.

“We’ve really been loving being a part of the bluegrass community in Indiana,” Taylor said.

Known for its energetic live performances, Boozehounds Bluegrass combines tight instrumentation, strong vocal harmonies, and traditional string-band influences. The band is scheduled to perform “Potter’s Bridge Bandits” and “When the Flowers Bloom” during its festival set.

The Bloomington Bluegrass Fest is the first of four music festivals Shew plans to host at Upland Brewing Co. this year.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Community members are invited to celebrate the healing power of music during a free Make Music Day pre-celebration at Eskenazi Health on June 18.

The event will feature a community drumming session led by Eskenazi Health Music Therapy as part of the lead-up to Make Music Day, a worldwide celebration of free public music performances held annually on June 21.

“We’re really focused on making music in the community,” said Allegra Hein, arts in health strategist at Eskenazi Health. “Anyone can benefit from music. It doesn’t matter how young or how old you are, where you come from or who you are.”

The celebration highlights Eskenazi Health’s commitment to integrating the arts into health care. Through the Marianne Tobias Music Program, the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital hosts weekly live performances featuring local professional musicians almost every Wednesday at noon in the Eli Lilly and Company Foundation Concourse. The performances are open to the public.

Eskenazi Health also maintains an extensive public art collection featuring more than 400 historical and contemporary works throughout the campus.

For patients requiring more individualized support, Eskenazi Health offers music therapy services designed to address emotional and physical challenges associated with hospitalization.

“Being in the hospital is not ideal for anyone,” said Tori Davenport, a music therapist at Eskenazi Health. “It can come with a lot of uncertainty and grief and sadness. Music therapy can help patients manage pain, anxiety, stress and mood while they’re in the hospital.”

Music therapists work directly with patients through activities such as singing, instrument playing and guided meditation sessions. Davenport said the therapy can provide comfort and give patients something positive to anticipate during their hospital stay.

The June 18 event is designed to bring together patients, families, staff members and community members through a shared musical experience.

“We’ll have doctors, nurses, patients, family members, staff — anybody can join together in a circle and make music together,” Davenport said.

She added that the focus is not on musical ability but on participation and connection.

“It’s not about how we sound. It’s about how we feel,” Davenport said. “Anyone can make music, and to do that together can be so healing.”

Make Music Day originated in France and is now celebrated in communities around the world. Indianapolis is participating for the fourth year, with Eskenazi Health serving as a lead organizer.
