August 6th is the date for the 4th Annual Vince Kelly Memorial Golf Tournament which raises money for the Philadelphia Police Survivors Fund! As usual it will be held at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley! It's a shotgun start, best-ball event, and a post round dinner and show also part of your tax deductible donation! My regular foursome is already lined up, but you should get your group together and join us for this incredible event, which raises money to support families of those PPD members who gave all in the line of duty! "The Vince" was conceived by the Rossi Brothers and Ken Justice to honor their stepdad, who was a very civic-minded guy. My old school, William Tennent in Warminster, is raising money for the school's Chorale & Madrigal singers' dream trip to perform at this Summer's London Olympics (and in Dublin, Ireland)!!! Show your support by taking part in their Tennent Trek scavenger hunt and flea market on Saturday, May 12th at the high scool on Centennial Road. On their trip to London they will perform in and around the Olympic celebration including historic venues such as wWestminster Abbey & St. Patrick's Cathedral, as well as in Olympic Park!!! I was one of those kids, back in the day, and now my childhood friend Joyce's daughter Lauren is in the group and part of this exciting trek for this group of seniors. Join me, and the MGK crew at the 2012 Fight for Air Climb is this Saturday morning at Three Logan Square, 1717 Arch Street in Philadelphia. Participants raise money for the American Lung Association by climbing 50 floors-1088 steps. People climb each year in support of the fight against lung disease and to raise awareness about lung health. The money raised at this Climb allows the American Lung Association to fund lung research, programs for lung disease (such as Asthma) for adults and children, tobacco prevention and cessation programs, and advocate for clean and healthy air (indoors and outdoors), and provides our communities with lung health awareness and resources. This Saturday night, March 17th (Yes, St. Pat's!!!), we will attempt to break the Guinness World Record™ for Largest Air Guitar Ensemble. We are going to try and break the record for most people playing Air Guitar in one place at one time. The current record is 2,377. Come to the Wings lacrosse game on Saturday night at the Wells Fargo Center vs. Edmonton at 7PM. Between the first and second quarter, stay at your seats while we make the compulsory 3 moves that can set a new world record. Even after their first reunion tour with David Lee Roth, it still didn't register that Van Halen was back. Even after they announced that there would be the new album most of their fans had waited since 1984 to hear, it didn't really hit me. Maybe the time between visits to Philadelphia played into it. Now, as the afterglow of last night's audio onslaught washes over me, having listened to and being most impressed by the new record, A Different Kind Of Truth (see review on this blog), it's hitting me... WE MISSED THEM...THEY'RE BACK! No, not those spandex wearing, long locks flying, fly through the air Van Halen daze of 30 years ago.
