In the bleepingcomputer case, I was reading uninstallation info for FakeAV "Antivirus XP 2008", and in the eches.net case, I was reading a harmless article about Kingsoft PC Doctor - which I use, and has a built in registry cleaning function. Because the advert was hosted by Google AdChoices, it could follow me in unwanted places such as THIS WEBSITE.

First of all, the tip of the iceberg. It gives misleading info, modifies your HOSTS file (if you download RCPro itself) and is rather annoying, having to cope with this ad everywhere.

Next, WHOIS behind the controversy. It may sound like an American company, but the WHOIS says it's from India:

People are perfectly qualified to tell which websites they trust. You should read the FAQ.

I would assume cause WoT as a concept doesn't really make much sense, other than an amusement. Most people who rate the sites aren't computer professionals trained in making crucial decisions, and aren't familiar with how the web actually works. They will rate gateway domains very poorly even though the gateway itself is very reputable. They will also use their own values on porn, spam, etc rather than facts. They will also downgrade companies that "rubbed" them the wrong way. This is not the way to run a trust system that will have negative consequences on many reputable companies. Many affiliate programs are rated low, while unknown domains for virus deployment are left unrated, smaller porn sites are allowed, objectionable content is overlooked etc.

Google wouldn't dare setup a filter based on WoT and shut down most of the internet based on a few people's questionable judgments. It's just not how you run a business.

I've come across some "automated" profiles that seem to rate every site the same and leave the same comment and say that every site they rate is "Malicious" or that it has a virus. This user's ratings and comments are always the same! And he's not the only user that is rating and commenting like that on the sites he's rating!

What's up with that? Is WOT actually some sort of group that goes out and tries to purposely give low ratings and negative comments on sites?

Also, why do the negative comments show up first by default, that's biased and misinforming people. They should all be chronological by default or else people get a poor image of a site based off these jerks that make their automated comments.

I've seen that Facebook claims WOT is a "trusted" partner, but if this is how WOT is operated and if they support the behavior of these members then I certainly don't trust it!

I went to see a website tonight, that popped up with a bright red circle, indicating that it is BOGUS and/or DANGEROUS. WRONG! It was HARDLY THAT! When I went through the list of the WOT reviews given for that website, I could only see FOUR, out of well over 100 reviews that were in ANY WAY NEGATIVE about the website!

This is NOT the FIRST TIME I have encountered this type of incongruence! I'm not sure whose political agenda it is, to MARK a website as being DANGEROUS or BOGUS, when it is a VERY LEGITIMATE website! I'm finding the entire WOT system, itself, to be what is BOGUS and/or DANGEROUS, especially if there might be a particular political agenda going on!

I, for one, RESENT being manipulated by a WOT system that DOES NOT accurately reflect much of ANYTHING! It's UNRELIABLE, on multiple levels, which is DISGUSTING, from my perspective! I can't help but wonder if it's a rigged type of system, like the BBB or not! It's EXTREMELY SECRETIVE, INDIRECT, and vague, which always DOES make me suspicious about ANYONE or ANYTHING!

I am out of computers =
For the last two days I have been w/o a PC , I even used my tablet and I could log in at WOT , but not much after that , well yesterday I found me the old XP Home edition from 2001 , I installed 2GB of memory and I used the CDs that came with it to reconfigure , though I am having problems getting the service packs from windows [ I have the pack 1 ] I talked to the people of Microsoft , but we couldn't install windows 7
Without it I can not install many of the add on I had , and I also have the windows as if they were 3 times the regular size
I will be buying a new computer and I also need some feedback , I was browsing some of the computer stores and the prices are quite good , but I know I do not need a water coolant for the system or one I TB of memory , dual core [ this one was for $400 ] I don't game or burn
I like to browse , listen to some music or perhaps watch a movie , bust mostly read newspapers or research
Any feedback will be appreciated as to how use the XP and upgrade windows pacs , and what computer should I buy , and i am not ready for the apple yet
