If you’re a WordPress users who has grown accustomed to viewing seminars and workshops consistently posted on WordPress.tv, then there is more content coming your way following this weekend – when two WordCamps will be held in separate Western Hemisphere countries: Canada and Nicaragua. With more than 200 WordCamps now under organizers’ belt, the camps have grown into a tradition of sorts as developers, theme authors and website owners informally meet in various locals across the globe to discuss topics that are designed to enhance the platform’s usage while aiming to innovate through brainstorming sessions that normally take place over a one or two day period.

WordCamp Nicaragua 2013

This Saturday, May 25th, the WordCamp Nicaragua will take place in the city of Managua with most in attendance booking a night at the Hotel Mansion Teodolinda. BlueHost will act as the Champion Sponsor for the event, which will feature a number of speakers and take place mostly in the Spanish language. On the official WordCamp website, organizers state that “WordCamps are informal, community-organized events that are put together by WordPress users like you. Everyone from casual users to core developers participate, share ideas, and get to know each other. On May 25, 2013, the Nicaraguan WordPress community will gather at the Universidad Centroamericana in Managua to celebrate the very first WordCamp in Central America. WordCamp Nicaragua 2013 will feature distinguished speakers and a variety of interesting topics on blogging, design and programming on the WordPress platform.”

Other sponsors of the one day event include MoviStar, Code Poet, ISIC, Monchito.net, and Modern Tribe. With the first ever WordCamp making its way to Central America, the WordPress platform continues to increase its influence and now enters new territory when it comes to community driven workshops.

WordCamp Calgary 2013

The other camp being held this weekend will take place in Calgary, Canada at the Amsterdam Rhino Design District Urban Tavern and will also be sponsored by BlueHost, DreamHost, TeamTreehouse, Code Poet, SPRY, and Good Company. The official WordCamp Calgary website explains that the event “is a conference that focuses on everything WordPress. Join us May 25th & 26th for engaging and inspiring sessions that will leave you exhausted (in a good way!) and ready to take on new challenges with your WordPress site. This community-led event would not happen without the help of volunteers, sponsors and speakers so sign up and spread the word.”

If you would like tickets to the Calgary event, they are still available at a price of $40 each (ticket prices are kept low due to heavy involvement from sponsors). There is a group lodging deal with Hotel Arts for those who will be flying in for the two day event or simply driving from the suburbs to attend.

WordCamp Success

The success of the informal community meetings is well documented as volunteers and committee organizers have streamlined the training process in order to get more qualified individuals involved in the local process as well as coordinate the shipment of hardware to be used at various locations.

WordCamp Central website coordinator Andrea Middleton recently introduced the multi-camp sponsorship program which has allowed interested parties to invest in a “season” of events in order to gain exposure and assist with the overall progress of events over a longer time period than before.

There are many trending topics that have been in the news lately regarding WordPress – namely the growth of crowd funding websites and how the concept has helped several entrepreneurs launch their software development dreams and make them a reality. One of those projects includes the ambitious Pressgram photo sharing tool designed by John Saddington of Atlanta, Georgia which is currently underway.

With May being the month to celebrate mothers, premium theme company Magazine3 has focused its attention on the new Mommy&Me download.

The official product page markets the newest launch from Magazine3 by saying, “Mommy&Me is a Mommy Blogging WordPress theme for Moms & Parent blogs. Every element of this theme is well crafted and makes your site look professional website and you get maximum exposure to your content. It has Rating & Review feature, Gallery and many more things which makes this theme perfect for Mommy blogs.”

Theme Features

The Mommy&Me WordPress theme comes with a number of features that are ideal for those looking to run a website on minimal programming costs due to the easy to understand Options Panel that boasts simple controls that require no code manipulation in order to perform major tasks. Via the innovative Thumbnail Type, your site’s webmaster can control the appearance of the front page and customize its overall layout.

When purchasing the premium theme from Magazine3, you’ll have access to the firm’s full support team that includes the privilege of email support and tech advice on how to best make the theme work for your blog site. There are also plenty of advertising options that will allow you to place banners within your site to give impressions to sponsors, plus Mommy&Me has a fully responsive design. This means that mobile device and tablet computer users will receive a customized view whenever visiting your website instead of having to constantly thumb scroll and pinch their way horizontally through any given page. There are built in SEO Options as well for the Mommy&Me theme to assist with search engine queries.

WordPress 3.5 Ready

Because of its 2013 launch, Mommy&Me is compatible with WordPress 3.5 “Elvin” and has cross browser compatibility to work correctly on Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and others. There are plenty of custom widgets for enhancing your sidebar and footer regions as well; resulting in a convenient method for giving one click access to important areas of your website such as recent posts, social media feeds, author bio pages and much more. Below I’ve placed a screenshot of this theme’s footer and how it will look once the widgets have been inserted.

The new premium download comes AdSense Ready and has threaded comments that easily mark whether the person replying is making a general comment or responding directly to a previous remark. You can easily add your site’s logo using the back-end controls, plus the theme comes with localized translations for those whose first language is not English.

Custom Page Templates

Whenever purchasing a premium WordPress theme, it is important to visualize how your content will vary. By using custom page templates, you can publish a separate blog feed that lets your site’s authors create unique articles that can be related to the topic of interest. In this case, you might want to use the blog section to create family stories about experiences that have been shared or even go as far as relaying news that pertains to motherhood, dealing with children, family issues, etc.

In the screenshot shown above, you can see that there is a separate ratings module included with the Mommy&Me theme that can be used for a number of purposes. Everything from recipes to reviews can be placed within the main content and then judged by visitors; giving your site an interactive feel.

All in all, the Mommy&Me theme is a great idea and fills an important family oriented niche in the WordPress market. Even beginning webmasters will find this theme easy to work with due to its reliable Control Panel that doesn’t require any code work in order to get up and running.

To find out more about the latest theme from Magazine3, visit the Mommy&Me Live Demo.

Each company in the WordPress theme space differentiates itself in some way, shape, or form. Some produce themes en masse, while others choose to focus on a particular niche. Some specialize in service, while others compete on price. For Templatic, business themes take center stage and are the focus of the company’s development. WPHub sat down with Templatic Community Manager Vedran Fak for Part 2 of our four-part interview to talk about the company’s founding and its current focus.

WPHub: Can you tell us how and when your founder, Bhavesh Radadiya, started Templatic?

Vedran Fak: It all happened in March 2008. The original company name was Premium Themes, and that was changed to Templatic in 2010. When it started, it was a two person web design agency. Today, Templatic has over 20 employees, so we have grown a lot. The biggest boom happened when we started creating app themes and focusing on niche markets. Up until that point, the themes were just standard blog and portfolio themes.

WPHub: Templatic is business theme-centric. Talk about the decision to focus on that.

Vedran Fak: Yes, that’s right. I’m not sure what the reasoning was, as it was before I came to the company, but it was mostly done to spread out the risk. If you put all of your eggs in one basket, and that basket breaks, you have nothing.

WPHub: How does Templatic differentiate itself? Tell us whether you think the ways you have been differentiating yourself have been successful.

Vedran Fak: Most of the time, the themes help build a reputation for us. A number of our themes are fairly unique on the market, or they were when they came out. That’s one of the ways we differentiate ourselves, and the other is our sales approach. Like you said, we’re business-oriented. Instead of providing WordPress themes, we provide business solutions.

WPHub: Do you think you have been successful in providing business solutions, then?

Vedran Fak: Considering that we just celebrated our fifth birthday, I would say a definite “Yes.” Niche themes mean we can never compete with the likes of Elegant Themes when it comes to the sheer number of members and customers, but that’s what’s great about this business – there are many ways to succeed.

WPHub: What themes are your most popular, and why do you think that is?

Vedran Fak: Not surprisingly, it’s the app themes that are the most popular. These include e-commerce themes like DailyDeal, Real Estate, and GeoPlaces. Why is that? I think it is because they offer a lot for a relatively small fee. You get a fully functionality geo-directory (GPv4) for $99. Developing something like that from scratch would cost hundreds, if not thousands, of Dollars.

WPHub: Can you talk a little bit more about what you mean by an app theme?

Vedran Fak: By “app,” I mean a theme with functionality for a specific application like managing bookings, managing places and events, or serving as a job site.

WPHub: What can you tell us about the sales figures for those themes or other themes you have?

Vedran Fak: I do not have the exact sales figures, but theme sales often match the theme’s popularity. The Templatic themes you read the most about (Real Estate and GeoPlaces, for example) are also the ones with the strongest sales.

WPHub: Next time out, we’ll talk about what it means to make a theme “future-proof” and discuss the process of creating a WordPress theme at the Templatic offices. We’ll also dive into the future of WordPress and learn how it might evolve from here. Check out Templatic.com to learn how to get your hands on a Templatic theme of your own.

Link: Part 1 of our interview with Vander Fak

Envato subsidiary ThemeForest.net has released its latest bounty offering in the form of a $4,500 prize pool for the first 15 approved Crowd Funding themes. The contest, which was posted earlier this week by Envato Growth Officer Shane Freer, highlights the importance and upward trend of the crowd funding concept; which has caught on in a major way thanks to websites such as KickStarter and IndieGogo.

In a recent forum thread Freer wrote, “We’re putting a $4,500 bounty on the heads of Envato’s most wanted file type – Crowd Funding themes on ThemeForest. The first 15 Crowd Funding themes uploaded (and subsequently approved) each get $300 (with a maximum of 2 files or $600 per author). There are also 2 bonus prizes up for grabs thanks to IgnitionDeck. If you use the free, special contest developer version of the IgnitionDeck plugin in your Crowd Funding theme there is an extra $100 up for grabs for first 10 themes submitted and approved [along with] $50 for the next 5.” Prizes will be paid out via PayPal with a maximum of two winning entries per author.

Crowd Funding Catches On

The Crowd Funding concept has become an extremely popular method of seeking and obtaining financial backing in recent years thanks to several websites along with the open-source nature of projects that can be monitored online by backers. Over the past couple of months, we’ve covered one particular project from inception to eventual funding in the form of John Saddington’s pet software task of creating Pressgram – an application that aims to give online users the ability to upload and share photos via social media and their own websites without relinquishing ownership and without giving away their page views to sites such as Facebook and Instagram.

The Crowd Funding trend has also found its way to WordPress website owners, who are aiming to capitalize on a growing market of backers and project managers who are seeking out ways to communicate and network.

Recommendations & Requirements

There are three existing Crowd Funding themes that Envato recommends as examples to go by for authors who are interested in submitting their entries for consideration. The first is the Fundify premium WordPress theme which makes use of the PayPal Adaptive Payments extension as well as featuring seamless integration with the Easy Digital Downloads e-Commerce plugin. Other files that are accurate examples of what ThemeForest is using as a guide are the Mission theme and the GoodWork download.

If a theme author wishes to publish multiple submissions when entering the contest, he/she must ensure that all entries are unique from one another. Also, the full Terms & Conditions state that winning entries that receive prize money MUST fill out an agreement form stating that the product will remain on the Marketplace for a minimum of two years

Community Feedback

The forum thread has already become popular among ThemeForest members with more than 10 replies in the first few days. Exclusive author Nevide commented earlier in the week that “this is nice idea. I am very excited to design crowd funding template but unfortunately… I know html css and i have some ideas how to code to wordpress but i dont’t know php and i am scared that i can’t submit good wordpress theme without pro php knowledge… Can anyone change my mind?” Silver Paw recipient Astoundify has already submitted an entry and received approval with the Campaignify Multi-Purpose Crowd Funding Theme.

The bounty contest runs through July 9th with payments sent out some time in late July. Those who are deemed winners must hold an active PayPal or Moneybookers/Skrill account in order to receive payment.

With the aim of giving webmasters the power to share and manage their work online, WordPress.com announced Thursday, May 16th, that it has added the Snap WordPress theme from The Theme Foundry for use by its subscribers. Snap, which comes with a premium price of $68, is custom made to serve as a lightweight theme that allows website owners to focus on their own creativity while also boasting a fully responsive design.

According to the official product page launched Thursday, “Snap’s Homepage template highlights your work, and gives your readers a brief overview of you or your business. You can show a featured slider or a static image along with a grid of your recent posts or projects.” With Snap, you can create multiple portfolio pages to show off your recent projects. The default design for the Portfolio custom page template is to lay out entries in a single column with a large thumbnail image, title, text excerpt, category, publication date, and call to action link that encourages readers to click through to see more information on a particular project.

Thanks to the convenient drag and drop interface within the Snap theme Control Panel, even beginning webmasters can organize the firm’s projects and arrange them by priority in order to let potential clients get a glimpse at the most eye-catching assignments; complete with descriptions, screenshots and details.

Responsive Layout

As with a growing number of premium WordPress themes that have been released over the past two years, Snap comes with a 100% responsive design that will automatically adjust the size and format of your site’s content to fit each and every screen size – ranging from mobile device to HD desktop monitor.

Regardless of whether your website is being viewed from an iPod Touch, iPad, iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Samsung Galaxy or other similar device, the Snap theme will take care of the adjusting work for you in order to ensure that front-end users are not forced to thumb scroll and pinch their way horizontally through pages. This is an important convenience in today’s WordPress environment and has been voted by our readers here at WPHub.com as the most important innovation in premium themes since 2010.

Homepage Slider

If you choose to display your main projects on the homepage, you can elect to place them within the featured content slider which features a very large view port. Entries can be configured to rotate automatically.

Below the slider, website owners can insert their own introductory heading and text that gives readers a general description of the business’ aims and/or freelance projects. The secondary feed is laid out in dual columns with a square shaped screenshot for each post along with a title, publication date, text excerpt and Read More link.

The Snap theme allows webmasters to publish an independent blog feed that is ideal for highlighting industry news or showcasing articles derived from your company’s best writers. The default format is two columns and differs slightly from the other template layouts in that the text excerpt can be lengthened in cases where a featured image is not used.

Snap Theme Details

The Snap premium WordPress theme is also fully widgetized via its sidebar that is perfect for inserting information about your company along with ad banners for sponsors, meta info, search functions, social media feed links, archives, categories and much more.

By choosing from the different default styles available, there are very few limitations placed on your potential design options even for those who are not prepared to work with code. If you would like to get an up-close look at the latest offering from WordPress.com, visit the Snap Theme Live Demo.

In December of last year, VaultPress parent company Automattic released a statement announcing that it had acquired Code Garage and would be taking over the website backup and security service. On Wednesday, May 15th, the Automattic staff at long last published their plan for migrating Code Garage over to VaultPress while at the same time ensuring current Code Garage customers receive the same high quality of service they’ve grown accustomed to.

“Today we’re happy to announce a migration plan that provides Code Garage users with the protection they’re used to — while letting us improve security and backup services for everyone by focusing our resources on VaultPress,” wrote VaultPress contributor Peter Butler. “Through July 1, all Code Garage customers are invited to migrate to VaultPress. To sweeten the deal, your first two months are on us — you won’t see a charge from Code Garage or VaultPress for two months after the migration. After those 2 months, your Code Garage bill will remain unchanged – you’ll keep paying what you’ve been paying as a Code Garage customer.”

Although it is clear the VaultPress staff is anticipating a large percentage of Code Garage users to make the move over the next month and a half, some will not. For those Code Garage customers who do not ultimately migrate to VaultPress, service will be maintained until July 1st with the final month uncharged.

VaultPress Lite For Code Garage Migration

Customers of Code Garage who decide to migrate to VaultPress will also receive another benefit in the meantime. Butler informed on Wednesday that “Code Garage customers who decide to give VaultPress a try will get a VaultPress Lite plan with the addition of daily security scans. As a VaultPress customer, you’ll also have access to standard VaultPress services like automated restores, restore to alternate site, and the fantastic VaultPress support staff. To make sure nothing falls through the cracks, you’ll have access your original Code Garage backup snapshots for 30 days after migrating.”

The Migration Process

Migrating to VaultPress can be done in just a few simple steps. There has been an automated migration tool set up for Code Garage users that begins at the Code Garage Dashboard. From there, you will need to go to the VaultPress Migration Page, and click on the corresponding red box. This will create an identical VaultPress account for your website(s), at which point the user will be allowed to login and begin the actual process (this only takes a few seconds in real time). Once completed, there are no further migration actions necessary on the customer’s behalf.

“We’ve given this a lot of thought over the past few months, and I’m confident that this move will give current Code Garage customers — who I’ve grown quite attached to over the past 2 years — with the best possible service and technology moving forward,” said Butler.

VaultPress Service

For website owners who have never heard of the VaultPress company, it basically provides a backup and security service with three total price plans. Ensuring your site is backed up at all times can be of utmost importance in case of data loss, and this is VaultPress’ specialty as it is capable of restoring data while at the same time performing security scans and even providing one-click solutions to premium customers.

Thanks to the recent release of VaultPress Lite, low budgets can be accommodated through a monthly pricing structure of $5, with the Basic and Premium services available for $15 and $40 monthly respectively. To find out more about the VaultPress service or to subscribe, click on the following link to visit VaultPress directly and begin taking advantage of its services immediately.

Over the weekend, WordPress 3.6 Lead Developer Mark Jaquith announced the official release of the third Beta version of WordPress 3.6. With the commercial launch of the updated platform slated for the end of this month, it is good to see the team approach the point where a release candidate is near.

In the May 11th blog post on WordPress.org, Jaquith stated, “This is software still in development and we really don’t recommend that you run it on a production site — set up a test site just to play with the new version. To test WordPress 3.6, try the WordPress Beta Tester plugin (you’ll want ‘bleeding edge nightlies’).”

More Than 100 Changes

Jaquith remarked that the third Beta version includes more than 100 changes. One of the main features that WordPress users have been looking forward to once the project has been completed is the ability to browse through and navigate post versions that have been saved from the back end. The new autosave feature will assist many webmasters and authors who have lost content due to hardware failure, lost internet connection or other reason. With the ability to locally store edits that have been made to a post, WordPress 3.6 will let administrators scroll through each past version and go to an earlier version in cases where content has been temporarily lost.

Jaquith added over the weekend that “Beta 3 contains about a hundred changes, including improvements to the image Post Format flow (yay, drag-and-drop image upload!), a more polished revision comparison screen, and a more quote-like quote format for Twenty Thirteen. As a bonus, we now have oEmbed support for the popular music-streaming services Rdio and Spotify (the latter of which kindly created an oEmbed endpoint a mere 24 hours after we lamented their lack of one).”

The official launch date has been moved back by the development team in order to ensure that new features are up to par and not rushed out. The result has been a longer than expected wait, yet it is indeed of utmost importance that the finished product be tested as much as possible with potential issues addressed before the download goes live and is recommended for production websites.

Working Toward A Release Candidate

Developers are encouraged to test the latest Beta version against their themes extensively and work with WordPress 3.6 Beta 3 as much as possible in order to work out any compatibility issues beforehand and even report them when necessary. The WordPress 3.6 Lead Developer ended his weekend blog entry by saying, “Plugin developers, theme developers, and WordPress hosts should be testing beta 3 extensively. The more you test the beta, the more stable our release candidates and our final release will be. As always, if you think you’ve found a bug, you can post to the Alpha/Beta area in the support forums. Or, if you’re comfortable writing a reproducible bug report, file one on the WordPress Trac. There, you can also find a list of known bugs and everything we’ve fixed so far. We’re looking forward to your feedback. If you find a bug, please report it, and if you’re a developer, try to help us fix it. We’ve already had more than 150 contributors to version 3.6 — it’s not too late to join in!”

WordPress 3.6 will boast custom post formats, and autosave function, the new Twenty Thirteen blog theme that has a colorful default layout that is specifically designed for WordPress sites, and much more. We are expecting the final downloadable product to be released toward the end of this month, with release candidates coming sooner than that.

Templatic, a longstanding company with a name that rolls off the tongue, bills itself as offering “premium WordPress themes for your business.” Other theme sites we’ve interviewed here on WPHub have been both very general and very specific in nature, but Templatic seems to fill a niche right in the middle. It has been so successful that the theme company, which is largely based in India, just celebrated its five-year anniversary.

Templatic’s Community Manager is Vedran Fak, who seemingly does it all for the site, whose themes for WordPress include titles like “TechNews,” “iPhone App,” and “e-Commerce.” Fak was kind enough to give WPHub an inside look at how Templatic runs as well as a look at the future of the WordPress industry. This is Part 1 of our four-part interview.

WPHub: Thanks for joining us. Tell us about your role with Templatic and how you got started working for the site.

Vedran Fak: My official role is Community Manager. I was hired to write blog posts and manage the company’s Twitter and Facebook profiles originally. Even though I still do that, it’s just a fraction of the big picture for me now. Most of my time goes to support, helping customers get started and stuff like that. Although responding on Twitter and Facebook has its upside, it’s not really my thing.

WPHub: Did you have experience in customer relations before Templatic? How did you know the Templatic guys?

Vedran Fak: A friend of mine from college gave me the e-mail of the company’s founder, Bhavesh, and that’s how we got in touch. When my college buddy heard Bhavesh was looking for a Community Manager, he recommended me for the job. It was more luck than anything, to be honest. Other than creating a few WordPress sites, I had no experience whatsoever. To this day, I wonder why Bhavesh hired me, but I’m glad he did.

WPHub: Talk about what kinds of e-mails you get from customers and the process of responding to them.

Vedran Fak: The e-mails we get range from pre-sales and theme support to billing issues. Serious theme support issues are handled with the help of developers, and other stuff I can handle on my own. My PHP/CSS/HTML knowledge has definitely increased over the last two years, not enough to develop themes, but definitely adequate enough to explain how it works to members and provide support to anyone who needs it.

WPHub: What kinds of PHP/CSS/HTML questions do people ask? What coordination is required with your developers?

Vedran Fak: CSS questions mostly involve changing fonts and colors and hiding elements. PHP questions are unique every time. They mostly revolve around outputting a different value than before or simply changing the value. We can help people with simpler customizations (a few lines of code), but adding new features isn’t possible. We ask them to contact a freelancer in those cases.

In terms of coordination with developers, it’s hard, and the distance does not make things easier. But, it’s hard to complain about working conditions when you’re working from home.

WPHub: Where are the developers, where are your main offices, and how many employees do you have? Tell us about the general structure of Templatic.

Vedran Fak: Most of the company is located in Surat, India. All of the developers and designers are there and that’s basically our corporate headquarters. Outside of India, we have three employees: Russell (who is from the United States), Motaz (who is from Serbia), and me (I am from Croatia). The three of us mostly focus on support and documentation. The guys in India handle all of the development.

WPHub: Next week in Part 2 of our interview with Templatic’s Vedran Fak, we’ll discuss how and when Templatic was founded and talk about its niche in the industry. Visit Templatic.com for all of the themes!

Over the weekend, premium WordPress theme company ColorLabsProject launched the latest addition to its growing catalog: the MetroStore e-Commerce theme. The new download comes with a full width layout that can also double as a magazine/newspaper website; complete with LightBox effects that alter images to show more information whenever a thumbnail is being moused over. Boasting WordPress 3.5 compatibility, MetroStore will work on popular web browsers such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

MetroStore Homepage

When you first take a look at this theme’s homepage, you’ll notice that it doesn’t portray a typical e-Commerce platform. This is due to its full width layout that also gives significant emphasis to news style entries that can be placed at the very top of your content bar immediately below the navigation region. The unique look gives MetroStore a feel of being a highly versatile theme that can serve multiple business purposes while also giving online shoppers exactly what they’re looking for: easy to find, categorized products.

Thanks to this download’s WooCommerce integration, your visitors will have no issues browsing different items and selecting products to purchase by placing them in their personalized part (payment gateway plugins are available separately).

LightBox effects are appropriately used in order to give your website an interactive layout that allows front-end users to simply mouse over entries to view additional information.

Fully Widgetized Theme

Although the sidebar isn’t prominently featured in most areas of the theme by default, you can easily insert widgets into the footer region to grant customers one click access to Flickr photos, social media feeds, recent comments, popular merchandise, meta info and much more.

There are also a number of custom page templates that are capable of formatting individual sections of your website automatically to include portfolios, blog feeds, etc. This is a great tool to use if you’re a website owner who is interested in publishing articles from in-house authors or relaying industry news to your customers.

On the official MetroStore Product Page, the ColorLabs staff states, “Inspired by its simplicity and flat design, we released the MetroStore WordPress theme to please the eyes of Windows 8 fans. Among many others, flat colors and design are some of its great features. MetroStore is a great choice for you who runs an online magazine that also functions as an e-commerce site. The color scheme of MetroStore may be modified as you like. You may also add an image and assign a color for every category post as you want. It is highly flexible, fully responsive and packed with awesome features. Whoever you are, whatever business you’re running, there’s no doubt that MetroStore will be the perfect magazine + e-commerce WordPress combo theme for you.”

Responsive Layout

What would an e-Commerce theme for WordPress websites be without a fully responsive design? The answer is that most non-responsive websites have a massive issue when it comes to convincing mobile device users to stick around due to the unnecessary amount of thumb scrolling and pinching involved in horizontally moving over each page.

With a completely responsive design, MetroStore caters to those who use an iPhone, Blackberry, Samsung Galaxy, Android, iPad and other smart phones or tablet computers to do their online shopping from places other than their home or office desktop.

Simply speaking, MetroStore is one of many new themes offered by ColorLabs that focuses on giving WordPress website owners the tools that they need in order to succeed without having to spend too much time on actual programming or code manipulation.

To find out more about the latest release from ColorLabs, click on the following link to visit the MetroStore Live Demo Page.

As is customary for WordPress.com, the site has released several new themes this week that are immediately available to the site’s subscribers. All three newly added themes are unique and each offer their own style along with strengths for personal blogging, publishing photographic content and more.

The first theme is called Handmade and was created by premium theme company Obox Design. Handmade is marketed as “a beautiful retro-styled blogging theme for foodies and crafters, designed with love by the folks at Obox Themes. Focusing on an amazing attention to detail and gorgeous typography, everything in Handmade has had hours of attention poured into it. Tender, loving care would be an understatement. Handmade can be trusted to display your gallery and blog posts in the best way possible on a small screen. It works well across all screens whether that be tablet, PC or even mobile.”

The responsive consideration that Obox has put into the Handmade download means that visitors who are viewing your site from an iPhone, iPad, Android, Samsung Galaxy, Blackberry or other small screen device will not be forced to horizontally thumb-scroll and pinch their way through pages. A customized view is provided to fit all screen sizes, and this is done automatically; without having to manipulate any code.

You can visit the theme showcase to read more about the Handmade theme or simply go to the Appearance tab within your WordPress Dashboard and activate the theme to make it the default platform for your website.

Untitled Theme

The next theme to be showcased and put into the hands of WordPress.com users this week is called Untitled and was created by Nate Schaumburg of Blank Themes. Appropriately named, the company specializes is creating downloads that are fully functional yet easily adjusted by the webmaster in order to obtain just the right fit for a large variety of websites.

If you’re seeking out a simple theme that is capable of publishing high quality photographic content, videos, and which also contains a full-width front page content slider, then Untitled may be a unique fit for your site’s goals. The theme supports post formats and boasts a mini carousel that appears on single pages.

On A Whim WordPress Theme

The third theme made available for WordPress.com subscribers on Thursday was On A Whim, which is aimed at those who use their website as a personal blogging platform. Designed by Meagan Fisher Owltastic, the theme is both colorful and capable of publishing your content and organizing it in a way that is easy to view from the front-end.

You’ll notice that the sidebar for this theme is placed by default on the right-hand side and is fully widgetized for those who wish to insert recent comments, meta info and even recent Tweets within this region. Having a way to publish a social media feed directly on the homepage allows readers to keep up with your new posts more easily and is also great for encouraging communication between fans and authors of a particular website.

As with the vast majority of commonly used premium WordPress themes out there on the market today, these three offerings that are now available for WordPress.com subscribers do not require any code manipulation in order to work on your website. All you have to do is simply go to the Appearance > Themes tab (located on the left-hand menu of your WordPress Dashboard) if you are a WordPress.com member and activate the theme of your choice. Once this is done, you’ll be able to seamlessly perform major changes on your website from a traditional Control Panel layout that will allow you to focus the vast majority of your time on actual content generation rather than programming. To find out more about these latest theme additions, visit WordPress.com.
