The most popular WVU Office of Information Technology resources can now be easily accessed from mobile devices such as the iPhone, Blackberry, and Android at m.oit.wvu.edu.

WVU OIT Mobile allows users to view a list of Wi-Fi Locations, the OIT calendar, and receive updates from OIT News and OIT Blog in addition to connecting with MyID and OIT Help Desk. OIT News and the OIT Blog are updated regularly, providing users with the latest technological news from the University.

MyID, a single username and password, allows users to activate their MyID account, retrieve a forgotten password, and to change their password directly from their mobile device on OIT Mobile. MyID is a single set of login credentials that can be used with numerous WVU systems such as eCampus, MIX, and MyAccess.

The mobile Help Desk feature allows users to quickly call or email the Help Desk for computer-related questions or assistance.

In addition to accessing OIT’s most popular services, mobile users can view the full OIT website.

WVU OIT Mobile is also available by clicking on the “OIT” icon on WVUMobileWeb (m.wvu.edu) on your mobile device.

Clickers are a technology that allows students to respond to questions posed during class using a handheld device. Students’ responses are captured and can be accessed by faculty for assessment of learning, analysis, and reporting.

WVU is adopting a new clicker model. The University has selected i>clicker2 (pronounced “eye clicker two”) as its new clicker standard for undergraduate classes. Faculty can now indicate in their syllabus if a clicker will be used and students can purchase their own. A student needs only one clicker that he/she will carry to all classes that require this educational technology.

The decision to adopt a new clicker model is based on research and pilot testing conducted by WVU’s Clicker Committee. Input from faculty outside of the committee was also taken into consideration.

After Spring Semester 2012 ends, WVU will no longer install clickers in classrooms and students will be required to purchase clickers. The current PRS model will remain in place until classes end in May 2012 but faculty have the option of using the i>clicker2 as early as January 2012.

Training options (workshop, online modules) are being developed and further information will be released soon. Faculty who want to use the i>clicker2 for Spring 2012 should contact Amy Kuhn at amy.kuhn@mail.wvu.edu or 293-4456.

Mark Six has been named interim executive director of the Office of Information Technology at WVU.

“Since arriving at WVU in 1998, Mark has consistently led improvements and efficiencies within several areas of OIT, and his broad-based knowledge and understanding of the department will allow us to remain on a course of building the kind of infrastructure necessary to support the University’s goals in advancing research,” Provost Michele Wheatly said in announcing the appointment, which is effective Dec. 12. Six will serve until a new chief information officer and associate provost for information technology is appointed.

Six joined WVU in November of 1998 as a senior systems programmer; he currently serves as director of enterprise infrastructure and technical services. He holds a bachelor’s of science degree in electronic engineering technology from Fairmont State College, has completed several IT-industry certifications and is pursuing a Masters of Business Administration in information technology management from American Public University.

You will experience no change to the process you follow to access any of your accounts.

MyID can be activated any time before or up to the time your MasterID or MIX passwords expire.

What you will need to complete the process:

a) Your Username for any of the included systems (all should be the same)
b) Your employee ID number, WVU ID number or the last four digits in your Social Security number to confirm your identity
c) Select three Challenge Questions for later use when resetting a forgotten password

A list of included systems can be found at: oit.wvu.edu/idm/where-can-i-use-myid/

Documentation for activating accounts, changing your password, and how to reset your password is on the https://myid.wvu.edu website under “Documentation.” There is also a video that walks through the steps to activate your account located just below the “Activate Account” button.
