The championship starts with a bang. On July 24th 2010 Germany competes against archrival Austria in the Commerzbank-Arena. A great supporting program is also planned for the big opening game. Before the standings will be decided on the final day on July 31st,the remaining group matches will occur on Sunday July 25th, Tuesday July 27th and on Thursday July 29th. Germany will attend their second group match against Finland on July 29th. Then the final takes place once more in the Commerzbank-Arena on July 31st 2010.

Former Wimbledon finalist David Nalbandian of Argentina has announced he will not be appearing at Wimbledon due to a leg injury.

Other players who have also withdrawn from this year's event include Croatia's Ivo Karlovic (foot injury) and Mario Ancic (back injury), Richard Gasquet of France (rib injury) and Radek Stepanek of the Czech Republic (knee injury).

Earlier in the week Elena Dementieva, a semi-finalist at Wimbledon for the past two years, announced she would not be appearing at this year's event due to injury. The world No.5 was forced to retire from her semi-final against Francesca Schiavone at Roland Garros with a calf injury and hasn't recovered in time for The Championships.

Also out of this year's Wimbledon due to injury are Russia's Dinara Safina (a semi-finalist at last year's Championships) and Maria Martinez Sanchez.

This week’s Polsat Warsaw Open is providing the final opportunity for a number of the WTA Tour’s finest to find a vein of much-needed form in time for next week’s French Open. With the biggest clay-court event of the year approaching, it’s possible that a few players will be trying out new strategies and approaches here, so we may see a few wild results.

Some first rate players are in attendance here, including Caroline Wozniacki, who slipped to the world number three spot last week. Wozniacki’s results on red clay this season haven’t been particularly great, so she will be searching to regain the lost form that might give her a fighting chance next week. Her performances will be worth monitoring, and may give us an inkling of what to expect next week.

The other seeded players in this week’s event are Elena Dementieva, Li Na, Marion Bartoli, Zheng Jie, Alona Bondarenko, Kateryna Bondarenko and Melanie Oudin. Dementieva stands out as another big favourite, though like Wozniacki, she’ll be hoping to put an unremarkable recent run of form behind her. Alona Bondarenko may also be a threat in this event; she was the runner-up in this event last year.

This event may be a little unpredictable, with the higher ranked players focusing on next week. It’s hard to guess how this event will play out, and for that amongst other things, we’re in for an exciting week.
