Before I get any hate letters, let me state that I'm an IT guy myself and I've been working on client and server based machines for many years now. I know the challenges that are posed by having to make things user friendly, but still keeping things running efficiently, safely and legitimately. I also understand though, that many "techy" type people don't always stay on top of their game. This is unacceptable. As IT people we must realize that our daily job is one that requires constant adapt [...]

As I'm sure many of you know, running your own business isn't exactly a walk in the park. I didn't grow up thinking I'd ever run a business, nor did I really plan things out to the T, I simply slowly merged into this after working for too many people I thought had nothing more going for them, than I did.

Being a small business, getting by on fluctuating resources is often unpredictable and items such as graphics and other resources are extremely costly, so for me I've often made the d [...]

I personally I'm always on the lookout for great online business tools that I can incorporate into my daily routine. Too often I find myself in a position where I feel that the processes I'm using could be refined, or that a more efficient tool could help bridge the information gap with a client who's office I'm not working [...]

If you're like me, then you think very carefully what type of network you want to build on Twitter. I actually have two accounts, because I have two entirely separate areas of interest. One is concentrated on web development, blogging and other technical things more related to my company, the other profile pertains only to my activities as a dj and producer and the network I'm building there reflects this.

Up to now, I've been using twhirl, which is a nice little piece of software, run [...]

Mozilla Labs: Bespin

Mozilla is working on a new project called "Bespin". According to their website it is

a Mozilla Labs experiment on how to build an extensible Web code editor using HTML 5 technology.

I just signed up to check it out and it seems pretty cool. If the code for this were released to the public, developers could have this technology and build their own coding servers that would be accessible remotely. I'll post more information on this when I've tried it out a bit more.

[vi [...]

For some this may seem as one of the simpler tasks, however we constantly get asked by friends or others what to do with all their large digital pictures they took and we decided it was time to put an end to many people's struggles.

We took the time to carefully document every step of the way while trying to accomplish one thing: converting large digital pictures to a size more suitable for websites, or web galleries.

Please note that we are of course aware of the need of high r [...]

We find it astonishing that so many of our clients and associates are still playing the game of remembering all their passwords in their head. On the one hand, with today's technology there's most likely very little chance anyone's going to hack your brain (we think), on the other hand our brains usually have a hard time remembering 12 digits character combinations made up of letters, numbers and odd characters. The result of this is that most people pick a rather easy to remember password fo [...]

In our ongoing journey of testing and deploying Joomla components of various types, we found the need to install a private message center on of our sites. If you're a web developer, then you know that certain extensions can turn into a real pain in the butt n terms of making everything work.

Recently I attempted to install an ajax chat module and it's still not working since I can't even determine whether a firewall is blocking connections or what's happening and the support from the c [...]

Keep Your Wordpress Up To Date

If you run your own Wordpress blog, you should pay attention to keep it updated. You can download the latest version of it here but the dashboard inside the administration panel always shows whether you're running the latest version or not.

With newer versions of Wordpress, a link will flash in the footer of the administration pane, urging you to upgrade. If you are up to date nothing special will appear in the footer. Upgrading a Wordpress blog is a rather straight forward proc [...]

If you haven't heard about Drop Box, it's time you head on over to www.getdropbox.com and sign up for a free account. Free accounts come with 2GB of storage space and all the features premium accounts have, the only difference to premium accounts is the fact that you get more storage.

At first it took me a minute to think about what use I would have for it, but once I found out that programs such as 1Password integrate with it, I immediately took a closer look. With the way [...]

The Phoca Gallery Evaluation

The other day I started to install a new Joomla Extension called "Phoca Gallery" as I'm faced with the problem of having a large library of photos which is residing in "Gallery 2". Where Gallery 2 on its own is a great piece of software, the integration with any Joomla site isn't completely seemless. Depending on the template you're using, bridges that are used to connect Joomla with Gallery 2 face the problems of conflicting scripts from templates, css integration etc.

As I wrote in m [...]

I'm not shy to say that I'm an extension junkie. I realize that every extra functionality always comes with the risk of vulnerabilities, however I'm constantly trying to best fill the needs of my web visitors, so it make sense to keep looking for the extension I believe will best serve everyone.

I run a community site for a local alternative community here in South Florida called the Positive Vibe Movement and due to the fact that many events are held, the amount of pictures we have i [...]

Comp USA finally gets it

I couldn't believe my eyes the other day when I randomly visited our local Comp USA store right around the corner. As long as I can remember, the only real value this store had to me was the fact that they were local. If your power supply had blown, or if you need an odd input device quickly, Comp USA was the store I would go to, among others.
What I had also mocked, and not just with this particular st [...]

Podcast Yourself

Many Musicians under estimate the power of podcasts. I'm guilty of under estimating the power of this automated process for a long time, until I realized: "Wait a minute, once subscribed all users have to do is open iTunes and if I added a new mix, then they will automatically get an update about it - neat."

When RSS Feeds and Podcasts first came out it was rather tedious to setup the XML files and various other things you had to have in place before you could start "podcasting".

Everyone has a different opinion on things, and I'm basing my judgment mainly on how well the extensions integrate into the site I'm building, and how well these extensions are managed from the front and back end.

Multimeda:

Podcast Suite

1Pixel Out Audio Player

Morfeo Show

YooGallery

YooEffects

I usually don't get too excited when software or web applications get updated but that's different in this case. Azrul Studios who are the makers of "MyBlog" and JomComment have just released the latest updates to these two great extensions.

When we installed MyBlog on our first Joomla System running 1.5.x we realized that certain functionality that was inplace with the Joomla 1.0.x version, wasn't available. This is understandable because the Joomla community is in the process of slowl [...]

A business partner of mine, Jim Spencer made me aware of this relatively new and unique communications and marketing tool.
