No More Waco Tech Lunch

Due to lack of interest from the community, other community events that happen on a regular basis, and no one showing up, the Waco Tech Lunch is no longer running. Be sure to check out the Waco Social Media Breakfast, though. You’ll find plenty of interesting people to talk to and learn more about what is going on in Waco, there.

Meeting Twice A Month

There was a lot of interest in the waco tech lunch meetings, originally, and we had close to 20 people cycle through the various meetings for the first few months. However, in the last month or so, the numbers have dwindled down to 2 or 3 people. I know I haven’t been blogging here and haven’t done such a great job of getting the word out, like I originally did… but I want to fix that and I need your help.

How Can We Make This Better?

Is t here anything we can do to make the tech lunch more interesting and appealing? Is there anything we can do the get the word out and let people know? We need ideas and we need your help. Meeting Twice A Month

After some discussion on twiter, etc., I think there was enough interest in making the Waco Tech Lunch meet twice a month instead of just once a month. This will give people more opportunity to network and socialize, and also make it more likely that people can attend in a given month, without having to wait for another month if they miss one meetup.

The New Schedule: 4th Wednesday Of The Month

We’re adding the 4th Wednesay of the month to the schedule. This will make the new schedule for the 2nd and 4th wednesdays, meaning we will meat on March 10th and March 24th. You can get the updated google calendar from the calendar link above, or from here:

I’m Out Of Town March 10th! Need Help.

Part of the reason that I wanted to make this twice a month is because I’m going to be out of town a few times in the next couple of months, and I did not want to completely miss out on our meetings. I’ll be out of town on March 10th, for example – our next meeting. I’d like to keep things rolling a long, though, and would like to see if anyone is willing to print out and bring the Waco Tech Lunch signs to Rudy’s on the 10th. If you are willing to help out, you can just print the logo straight from the website. Or, if you want a higher res version, you can grab it from here: http://github.com/derickbailey/wacotechlunch/blob/gh-pages/_source/logo/waco-logo.svg. I used InkScape to creat this (freeware), but you should be able to open it in most vector editors.

Second Tech Lunch Down. Should We Meet More Often?

Hey! I’m doing a little better on timing with this blog post. I’m only 5 days behind, instead of a few weeks. :)

The Second Lunch

The second lunch happened on Feb 10th, and it was a smaller group than the first time. We had myself, Caryn Brown, Dale Glaser, Mark Bourland and Hank Ivy this time around. I was glad to see some returning people and some new people, too. The overall discussion was fun as we ended up telling a lot of old war stories about breaking things to learn how they work, etc. Hopefully everyone else had as much fun as I did.

There was one other great idea that came out of this, too. Dale had the idea of getting a .NET User Group started up in the Waco area. He’s in contact with Eric Hexter now, and they are discussing the details of this. If you’re interested in a Waco area .NET user group, let us know! Post a comment here, over send a tweet to Dale or Eric!

We were also noticed by the Rudy’s management team this time. I received a response from Rudy’s BBQ via twitter shortly after heading back to the office, thanking us for having the meetings at Rudy’s! Yay for support from Rudy’s! They’re proving that they don’t just have good food – they also have great customer service and a friendly, open atmosphere!

Should We Meet More Often?

I’m wondering if one a month is too long between the lunches. For me, personally, this is one of the few chances that I have to socialize with other techies in the Waco area. I’m also thinking that once a month makes it a little difficult to get more people there – it’s easy to forget about and it’s easy to have scheduling conflicts. If you miss a meeting because you’re out of town, then you have to go another month before the next one.

With that in mind, I want to ask if we should meet twice a month instead of one a month. What do you think? Would you be more likely to make it if you had 2 chances in a given month? Drop a comment here, reply via twitter or email me.

The First Meeting Was Great! The Second Meeting Is Feb 10th!

Ok, so I’m a week and a half behind on getting this blog post up. I’ll try to do better in the futre… but anyways…

The First Meeting

The first Waco Tech Lunch meeting, last week, was great! We have 8 people (including myself) show up. Here’s a pic of the group:

Moving up the left side, we have: John Mathis, Cory Webb, and Alexis Marks. Moving up the right side, we have: Mark Bourland, Eddie Flores, Caryn Brown, and Carla Pendergraft. And then there’s me, hiding behind the camera. :) We had a great time, and spent almost 2 hours talking about everything from .NET to Joomla, to phones, marketing and running your own business.

The Next Meeting: February 10th, 2010, 12 Noon

Who Should Go?

If you’re a technology professional or enthusiast in the Waco, TX area, you should definitely come! That includes software developers, web developers, designers, IT support persons, and any other technical trade related to computers, software and hardware.

Why Should I Go?

There’s a small but growing number of techies in the Waco area. I (Derick Bailey) am one of them, and I don’t know very many of you. I’d like to change that by having a monthly get together over lunch, so that we can talk about technology and Waco. If you’re looking to talk tech, make some new friends, and generally have fun with your fellow techies, then you should come.

Welcome to the first blog post for the Waco Tech Lunch social lunch gathering! The idea behind the Waco Tech Lunch is to create a social gathering of like minded people, over lunch, to talk all things tech and generally have fun!

The First Meeting: January 13th, 2010, 12 Noon
